The Baum-Connes Conjecture via Localisation of Categories

We redefine the Baum-Connes assembly map using simplicial approximation in the equivariant Kasparov category. This new interpretation is ideal for studying functorial properties and gives analogues of the assembly maps for all equivariant homology theories, not just for the K-theory of the crossed product. We extend many of the known techniques for proving the Baum-Connes conjecture to this more general setting.

The Existence and Stability of Noncommutative Scalar Solitons

We establish existence and stabilty results for solitons in noncommutative scalar field theories in even space dimension $2d$. In particular, for any finite rank spectral projection $P$ of the number operator ${\mathcal N}$ of the $d$-dimensional harmonic oscillator and sufficiently large noncommutativity parameter $θ$ we prove the existence of a rotationally invariant soliton which depends smoothly on $θ$ and converges to a multiple of $P$ as $θ\to\infty$. In the two-dimensional case we prove that these solitons are stable at large $θ$, if $P=P_N$, where $P_N$ projects onto the space spanned by the $N+1$ lowest eigenstates of ${\mathcal N}$, and otherwise they are unstable. We also discuss the generalisation of the stability results to higher dimensions. In particular, we prove stability of the soliton corresponding to $P=P_0$ for all $θ$ in its domain of existence. Finally, for arbitrary $d$ and small values of $θ$, we prove without assuming rotational invariance that there do not exist any solitons depending smoothly on $θ$.

Riemann-Roch via deformation quantization, II

We prove a Riemann-Roch formula for deformation quantization of complex manifolds and its corollary, an index theorem for elliptic pairs conjectured by Schapira and Schneiders.

Local formula for the index of a Fourier Integral Operator

We show that the index of an elliptic Fourier integral operator associated to a contact diffeomorphism $ϕ$ of cosphere bundles of two Riemannian manifolds X and Y is given by $\int_{B^*X}\hat{A}(T^*X)\expθ - \int_{B^*Y}\hat{A}(T^*Y)\expθ$. Here $B^*$ stands for the unit coball bundle and $θ$ is a certain characteristic class depending on the principal symbol of the Fourier integral operator. In the special case when X=Y we obtain a different proof of the theorem of Epstein and Melrose.

Index of $Γ$-equivariant Toeplitz operators

Let $Γ$ be a discrete icc subgroup of PSL(2,R) of infinite covolume. and let M denote the quotient of the unit disc by $Γ$. We prove that a Toeplitz operator with $Γ$-invariant symbol f in C(M) is Brauer Fredholm if its symbol is invertible on the boundary of M and its Brauer index is equal to the winding number of f at the boundary. We construct the associated extension of the algebra of functions continuous on the boundary of M by the Brauer ideal in the C*-algebra generated by such operators.

Deformations of symplectic Lie algebroids, deformations of holomorphic symplectic structures, and index theorems

Recently Kontsevich solved the classification problem for deformation quantizations of all Poisson structures on a manifold. In this paper we study those Poisson structures for which the explicit methods of Fedosov can be applied, namely the Poisson structures coming from symplectic Lie algebroids, as well as holomorphic symplectic structures. For deformations of these structures we prove the classification theorems and a general a general index theorem.

Fukaya Type Categories for Associative Algebras

We define for an associative algebra an $A_{\infty}$ category whose objects are automorphisms of this algebra. This construction has some resemblance with Fukaya'a categories related to Floer cohomology.
