Orthogonal Polynomials from Hermitian Matrices

A unified theory of orthogonal polynomials of a discrete variable is presented through the eigenvalue problem of hermitian matrices of finite or infinite dimensions. It can be considered as a matrix version of exactly solvable Schrödinger equations. The hermitian matrices (factorisable Hamiltonians) are real symmetric tri-diagonal (Jacobi) matrices corresponding to second order difference equations. By solving the eigenvalue problem in two different ways, the duality relation of the eigenpolynomials and their dual polynomials is explicitly established. Through the techniques of exact Heisenberg operator solution and shape invariance, various quantities, the two types of eigenvalues (the eigenvalues and the sinusoidal coordinates), the coefficients of the three term recurrence, the normalisation measures and the normalisation constants etc. are determined explicitly.

Exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanics; shape invariance, Heisenberg solutions, annihilation-creation operators and coherent states

Various examples of exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanics are explored explicitly with emphasis on shape invariance, Heisenberg operator solutions, annihilation-creation operators, the dynamical symmetry algebras and coherent states. The eigenfunctions are the (q-)Askey-scheme of hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials satisfying difference equation versions of the Schrödinger equation. Various reductions (restrictions) of the symmetry algebra of the Askey-Wilson system are explored in detail.

New Quasi Exactly Solvable Difference Equation

Exact solvability of two typical examples of the discrete quantum mechanics, i.e. the dynamics of the Meixner-Pollaczek and the continuous Hahn polynomials with full parameters, is newly demonstrated both at the Schroedinger and Heisenberg picture levels. A new quasi exactly solvable difference equation is constructed by crossing these two dynamics, that is, the quadratic potential function of the continuous Hahn polynomial is multiplied by the constant phase factor of the Meixner-Pollaczek type. Its ordinary quantum mechanical counterpart, if exists, does not seem to be known.

Quasi Exactly Solvable Difference Equations

Several explicit examples of quasi exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanical Hamiltonians are derived by deforming the well-known exactly solvable Hamiltonians of one degree of freedom. These are difference analogues of the well-known quasi exactly solvable systems, the harmonic oscillator (with/without the centrifugal potential) deformed by a sextic potential and the 1/sin^2x potential deformed by a cos2x potential. They have a finite number of exactly calculable eigenvalues and eigenfunctions.

Quasi-exactly solvable Fokker-Planck equations

We consider exact and quasi-exact solvability of the one-dimensional Fokker-Planck equation based on the connection between the Fokker-Planck equation and the Schrödinger equation. A unified consideration of these two types of solvability is given from the viewpoint of prepotential together with Bethe ansatz equations. Quasi-exactly solvable Fokker-Planck equations related to the $sl(2)$-based systems in Turbiner's classification are listed. We also present one $sl(2)$-based example which is not listed in Turbiner's scheme.

Multi-Particle Quasi Exactly Solvable Difference Equations

Several explicit examples of multi-particle quasi exactly solvable `discrete' quantum mechanical Hamiltonians are derived by deforming the well-known exactly solvable multi-particle Hamiltonians, the Ruijsenaars-Schneider-van Diejen systems. These are difference analogues of the quasi exactly solvable multi-particle systems, the quantum Inozemtsev systems obtained by deforming the well-known exactly solvable Calogero-Sutherland systems. They have a finite number of exactly calculable eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. This paper is a multi-particle extension of the recent paper by one of the authors on deriving quasi exactly solvable difference equations of single degree of freedom.

Interpolation of SUSY quantum mechanics

Interpolation of two adjacent Hamiltonians in SUSY quantum mechanics $H_s=(1-s)A^{\dagger}A + sAA^{\dagger}$, $0\le s\le 1$ is discussed together with related operators. For a wide variety of shape-invariant degree one quantum mechanics and their `discrete' counterparts, the interpolation Hamiltonian is also shape-invariant, that is it takes the same form as the original Hamiltonian with shifted coupling constant(s).

Exact Heisenberg operator solutions for multi-particle quantum mechanics

Exact Heisenberg operator solutions for independent `sinusoidal coordinates' as many as the degree of freedom are derived for typical exactly solvable multi-particle quantum mechanical systems, the Calogero systems based on any root system. These Heisenberg operator solutions also present the explicit forms of the annihilation-creation operators for various quanta in the interacting multi-particle systems. At the same time they can be interpreted as multi-variable generalisation of the three term recursion relations for multi-variable orthogonal polynomials constituting the eigenfunctions.

Exact classical solutions of nonlinear sigma models on supermanifolds

We study two-dimensional nonlinear sigma models with target spaces being the complex super Grassmannian manifolds, that is, coset supermanifolds $G(m,p|n,q)\cong U(m|n)/[U(p|q)\otimes U(m-p|n-q)]$ for $0\leq p \leq m$, $0\leq q \leq n$ and $1\leq p+q$. The projective superspace ${\bf CP}^{m-1|n}$ is a special case of $p=1$, $q=0$. For the two-dimensional Euclidean base space, a wide class of exact classical solutions (or harmonic maps) are constructed explicitly and elementarily in terms of Gramm-Schmidt orthonormalisation procedure starting from holomorphic bosonic and fermionic supervector input functions. The construction is a generalisation of the non-super case published more than twenty years ago by one of the present authors.

Deformed multi-variable Fokker-Planck equations

In this paper new multi-variable deformed Fokker-Planck (FP) equations are presented. These deformed FP equations are associated with the Ruijsenaars-Schneider-van Diejen (RSvD) type systems in the same way that the usual one variable FP equation is associated with the one particle Schrödinger equation. As the RSvD systems are the "discrete" counterparts of the celebrated exactly solvable many-body Calogero-Sutherland-Moser systems, the deformed FP equations presented here can be considered as "discrete" deformations of the ordinary multi-variable FP equations.

Deformed Fokker-Planck Equations

Based on the well-known relation between Fokker-Planck equations and Schroedinger equations of quantum mechanics (QM), we propose new deformed Fokker-Planck (FP) equations associated with the Schroedinger equations of "discrete" QM. The latter is a natural discretization of QM and its Schroedinger equations are difference instead of differential equations. Exactly solvable FP equations are obtained corresponding to exactly solvable "discrete" QM, whose eigenfunctions include various deformations of the classical orthogonal polynomials.

Exact solution in the Heisenberg picture and annihilation-creation operators

The annihilation-creation operators of the harmonic oscillator, the basic and most important tools in quantum physics, are generalised to most solvable quantum mechanical systems of single degree of freedom including the so-called `discrete' quantum mechanics. They admit exact Heisenberg operator solution. We present unified definition of the annihilation-creation operators (a^{(\pm)}) as the positive/negative frequency parts of the exact Heisenberg operator solution.

Unified Theory of Annihilation-Creation Operators for Solvable (`Discrete') Quantum Mechanics

The annihilation-creation operators $a^{(\pm)}$ are defined as the positive/negative frequency parts of the exact Heisenberg operator solution for the `sinusoidal coordinate'. Thus $a^{(\pm)}$ are hermitian conjugate to each other and the relative weights of various terms in them are solely determined by the energy spectrum. This unified method applies to most of the solvable quantum mechanics of single degree of freedom including those belonging to the `discrete' quantum mechanics.

$A_{n-1}$ Gaudin model with open boundaries

The $A_{n-1}$ Gaudin model with integerable boundaries specified by non-diagonal K-matrices is studied. The commuting families of Gaudin operators are diagonalized by the algebraic Bethe ansatz method. The eigenvalues and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations are obtained.

Algebraic Bethe ansatz for the elliptic quantum group $E_{τ,η}(sl_n)$ and its applications

We study the tensor product of the {\it higher spin representations} (see the definition in Sect. 2.2) of the elliptic quantum group $E_{τ,η}(sl_n)$. The transfer matrices associated with the $E_{τ,η}(sl_n)$-module are exactly diagonalized by the nested Bethe ansatz method. Some special cases of the construction give the exact solution for the $Z_n$ Belavin model and for the elliptic $A_{n-1}$ Ruijsenaars-Schneider model.

Lax pair for SU(n) Hubbard model

For one dimensional SU(n) Hubbard model, a pair of Lax operators are derived, which give a set of fundamental equations for the quantum inverse scattering method under both periodic and open boundary conditions. This provides another proof of the integrability of the model under periodic boundary condition.

Probability Distributions and Coherent States of $B_r$, $C_r$ and $D_r$ Algebras

A new approach to probability theory based on quantum mechanical and Lie algebraic ideas is proposed and developed. The underlying fact is the observation that the coherent states of the Heisenberg-Weyl, $su(2)$, $su(r+1)$, $su(1,1)$ and $su(r,1)$ algebras in certain symmetric (bosonic) representations give the ``probability amplitudes'' (or the ``square roots'') of the well-known Poisson, binomial, multinomial, negative binomial and negative multinomial distributions in probability theory. New probability distributions are derived based on coherent states of the classical algebras $B_r$, $C_r$ and $D_r$ in symmetric representations. These new probability distributions are simple generalisation of the multinomial distributions with some added new features reflecting the quantum and Lie algebraic construction. As byproducts, simple proofs and interpretation of addition theorems of Hermite polynomials are obtained from the `coordinate' representation of the (negative) multinomial states. In other words, these addition theorems are higher rank counterparts of the well-known generating function of Hermite polynomials, which is essentially the `coordinate' representation of the ordinary (Heisenberg-Weyl) coherent state.
