Electric Field Measurement by Edge Transient Current Technique on Silicon Low Gain Avalanche Detector

A novel methodology, named the diffusion profile method, is proposed in this research to measure the electric field of a low gain avalanche detector (LGAD).The proposed methodology utilizes the maximum of the time derivative of the edge transient current technique (edge-TCT) test waveform to quantify the dispersion of the light-induced carriers. This method introduces the estimation of the elongation of the carrier cluster caused by diffusion and the divergence of the electric field force during its drift along the detector. The effectiveness of the diffusion profile method is demonstrated through the analysis of both simulated and measured edge-TCT waveforms. Experimental data was collected from a laser scan performed on an LGAD detector along its thickness direction.A simulation procedure has been developed in RASER (RAdiation SEmiconductoR) to generate signals from LGAD.An assumption of immediate one-step carrier multiplication is introduced to simplify the avalanche process.Simulation results were compared with transient current data at the waveform level and showed a favorable match. Both simulation and experimental results have shown that the diffusion profile method could be applied to certain edge-TCT facilities as an alternative of electric field measurement.

Time Resolution of the 4H-SiC PIN Detector

We address the determination of the time resolution for the $\rm 100~μm$ 4H-SiC PIN detectors fabricated by Nanjing University (NJU). The time response to $\rm β$ particles from a $\rm ^{90}$Sr source is investigated for the detection of the minimum ionizing particles (MIPs). We study the influence of different reverse voltages, which correspond to different carrier velocities and device sizes, and how this correlates with the detector capacitance. We determine a time resolution $\rm (94\pm1)~ps$ for $\rm 100~μm$ 4H-SiC PIN detector. A fast simulation software, termed RASER (RAdiation SEmiconductoR), is developed, and validated by comparing the waveform obtained from simulated and measured data. The simulated time resolution is $\rm (73\pm 1)~ps$ after considering the intrinsic leading contributions of the detector to time resolution.

Physics potential for the H$\rightarrow$ZZ$^{*}$ decay at the CEPC

The precision of the yield measurement of the Higgs boson decaying into a pair of $Z$ bosons process at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) is evaluated. Including the recoil $Z$ boson associated with the Higgs production (Higgsstrahlung) total three $Z$ bosons are involved for this channel, from which final states characterized by the presence of a pair of leptons, quarks, and neutrinos are chosen for the signal. Two analysis approaches are compared and the final precision of $σ_{\mathrm{ZH}}{\cdot}$BR($H \rightarrow ZZ^{*}$) is estimated to be 7.9% using a multivariate analysis technique, based on boosted decision trees. The relative precision of the Higgs boson width, using this $H \rightarrow ZZ^{*}$ decay topology, is estimated by combining the obtained result with the precision of the inclusive \textit{ZH} cross section measurement.

Search for invisible decay of a Higgs boson produced at the CEPC

The existence of dark matter has been established in astrophysics. However, there is no candidate for DM in the Stand Model (SM). In SM, the Higgs boson can only decay invisibly via $H\rightarrow ZZ^\ast \rightarrow ν\barνν\barν$ or DM, so any evidence of invisible Higgs decay that exceeds BR (H$\rightarrow$inv.) will immediately point to a phenomenon that is beyond the standard model (BSM). In this paper, we report on the upper limit of BR (H$\rightarrow$invisible) estimated for three channels, including two leptonic channels and one hadronic channel, under the assumption predicted by SM. With the SM ZH production rate, the upper limit of BR (H$\rightarrow$inv.) could reach 0.24\% at the 95\% confidence level.

Precision Higgs Physics at CEPC

The discovery of the Higgs boson with its mass around 125 GeV by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations marked the beginning of a new era in high energy physics. The Higgs boson will be the subject of extensive studies of the ongoing LHC program. At the same time, lepton collider based Higgs factories have been proposed as a possible next step beyond the LHC, with its main goal to precisely measure the properties of the Higgs boson and probe potential new physics associated with the Higgs boson. The Circular Electron Positron Collider~(CEPC) is one of such proposed Higgs factories. The CEPC is an $e^+e^-$ circular collider proposed by and to be hosted in China. Located in a tunnel of approximately 100~km in circumference, it will operate at a center-of-mass energy of 240~GeV as the Higgs factory. In this paper, we present the first estimates on the precision of the Higgs boson property measurements achievable at the CEPC and discuss implications of these measurements.

Observation of the "$K^-pp$"-like structure in the $d(π^+, K^+)$ reaction at 1.69 GeV/$c$

We have observed a "$K^-pp$"-like structure in the $d(π^+,K^+)$ reaction at 1.69 GeV/$c$. In this reaction $Λ(1405)$ hyperon resonance is expected to be produced as a doorway to form the $K^-pp$ through the $Λ^*p\rightarrow K^-pp$ process. However, most of the produced $Λ(1405)$'s would escape from deuteron without secondary reactions. Therefore, coincidence of high-momentum ($>$ 250~MeV/$c$) proton(s) in large emission angles ($39^\circ<θ_{lab.}<122^\circ$) was requested to enhance the signal-to-background ratio. A broad enhancement in the proton coincidence spectra are observed around the missing-mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^2$, which corresponds to the $K^-pp$ binding energy of 95 $^{+18}_{-17}$ (stat.) $^{+30}_{-21}$ (syst.) MeV and the width of 162 $^{+87}_{-45}$ (stat.) $^{+66}_{-78}$ (syst.) MeV.

Inclusive spectrum of the $d(π^+, K^+)$ reaction at 1.69 GeV/c

We have measured an inclusive missing-mass spectrum of the $d(π^+, K^+)$ reaction at the pion incident momentum of 1.69 GeV/$c$ at the laboratory scattering angles between 2$^\circ$ and 16$^\circ$ with the missing-mass resolution of 2.7 $\pm$ 0.1 MeV/$c^2$ (FWHM) at the missing mass of 2.27 GeV/$c^{2}$. In this Letter, we first try to understand the spectrum as a simple quasi-free picture based on several known elementary cross sections, considering the neutron/proton Fermi motion in deuteron. While gross spectrum structures are well understood in this picture, we have observed two distinct deviations; one peculiar enhancement at 2.13 GeV/$c^2$ is due to the $ΣN$ cusp, and the other notable feature is a shift of a broad bump structure, mainly originating from hyperon resonance productions of $Λ(1405)$ and $Σ(1385)^{+/0}$, by about 22.4 $\pm$ 0.4 (stat.) $^{+2.7}_{-1.7}$ (syst.) MeV/$c^2$ toward the low-mass side, which is calculated in the kinematics of a proton at rest as the target.
