Superconductivity in a two dimensional extended Hubbard model

The Roth's two-pole approximation has been used by the present authors to investigate the role of $d-p$ hybridization in the superconducting properties of an extended $d-p$ Hubbard model. Superconductivity with singlet $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave pairing is treated by following Beenen and Edwards formalism. In this work, the Coulomb interaction, the temperature and the superconductivity have been considered in the calculation of some relevant correlation functions present in the Roth's band shift. The behavior of the order parameter associated with temperature, hybridization, Coulomb interaction and the Roth's band shift effects on superconductivity are studied.

Quantum critical point in the spin glass-antiferromagnetism competition for fermionic Ising Models

The competition between spin glass ($SG$) and antiferromagnetic order ($AF$) is analyzed in two sublattice fermionic Ising models in the presence of a transverse $Γ$ and a parallel $H$ magnetic fields. The exchange interaction follows a Gaussian probability distribution with mean $-4J_0/N$ and standard deviation $J\sqrt{32/N}$, but only spins in different sublattices can interact. The problem is formulated in a path integral formalism, where the spin operators have been expressed as bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields. The results of two fermionic models are compared. In the first one, the diagonal $S^z$ operator has four states, where two eigenvalues vanish (4S model), which are suppressed by a restriction in the two states 2S model. The replica symmetry ansatz and the static approximation have been used to obtain the free energy. The results are showing in phase diagrams $T/J$ ($T$ is the temperature) {\it versus} $J_{0}/J$, $Γ/J$, and $H/J$. When $Γ$ is increased, $T_{f}$ (transition temperature to a nonergodic phase) reduces and the Neel temperature decreases towards a quantum critical point. The field $H$ always destroys $AF$; however, within a certain range, it favors the frustration. Therefore, the presence of both fields, $Γ$ and $H$, produces effects that are in competition. The critical temperatures are lower for the 4S model and it is less sensitive to the magnetic couplings than the 2S model.

Fermionic Ising glasses with BCS pairing interaction in the presence of a transverse field

In the present work we have analyzed a fermionic infinite-ranged Ising spin glass with a local BCS coupling in the presence of transverse field. This model has been obtained by tracing out the conduction electrons degrees of freedom in a superconducting alloy. The transverse field Γis applied in the resulting effective model. The problem is formulated in the path integral formalism where the spins operators are represented by bilinear combination of Grassmann fields. The problem can be solved by combining previous approaches used to study a fermionic Heisenberg spin glass and a Ising spin glass in a transverse field. The results are show in a phase diagram T/J {\it versus} Γ/J (J is the standard deviation of the random coupling J_{ij}) for several values of g (the strength of the pairing interaction). For small g, the line transition T_c(Γ) between the normal paramagnetic phase and the spin glass phase decreases when increases Γ, until it reaches a quantum critical point. For increasing g, a PAIR phase (where there is formation of local pairs) has been found which disappears when is close to Γ_c showing that the transverse field tends to inhibited the PAIR phase.

Spin Glass and antiferromagnetism in Kondo lattice disordered systems

The competition between spin glass (SG), antiferromagnetism (AF) and Kondo effect is studied here in a model which consists of two Kondo sublattices with a gaussian random interaction between spins in differents sublattices with an antiferromagnetic mean Jo and standard deviation J. In the present approach there is no hopping of the conduction electrons between the sublattices and only spins in different sublattices can interact. The problem is formulated in the path integral formalism where the spin operators are expressed as bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields which can be solved at mean field level within the static approximation and the replica symmetry ansatz. The obtained phase diagram shows the sequence of phases SG, AF and Kondo state for increasing Kondo coupling. This sequence agrees qualitatively with experimental data of the Ce_{2} Au_{1-x} Co_{x} Si_{3} compound.

Spin Glass and Ferromagnetism in Kondo lattices compounds

The Kondo lattice model has been analyzed in the presence of a random inter-site interaction among localized spins with non zero mean Jo and standard deviation J. Following the same framework previously introduced by us, the problem is formulated in the path integral formalism where the spin operators are expressed as bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields. The static approximation and the replica symmetry ansatz have allowed us to solve the problem at a mean field level. The resulting phase diagram displays several phase transitions among a ferromagnetically ordered region,a spin glass one, a mixed phase and a Kondo state depending on Jo, J and its relation with the Kondo interaction coupling Jk. These results could be used to address part of the experimental data for the CeNi_{1-x}Cu_x compound, when x =< 0.8.

Spin glass freezing in Kondo lattice compounds

It is presented a theory that describes a spin glass phase at finite temperatures in Kondo lattice systems with an additional RKKY interaction represented by long range, random couplings among localized spins like in the Sherrington- Kirkpatrick (SK) spin glass model. The problem is studied within the functional integral formalism where the spin operators are represented by bilinear combinations of fermionic (anticommuting) Grassmann variables. The Kondo and spin glass transitions are both described with the mean field like static ansatz that reproduces good results in the two well known limits. At high temperatures and low values of the Kondo coupling there is a paramagnetic (disordered) phase with vanishing Kondo and spin glass order parameters. By lowering the temperature a second order transition line is found at Tsg to a spin glass phase. For larger values of the Kondo coupling there is a second order transition line at roughly Tk to a Kondo ordered state. For T<Tsg the transition between the Kondo and spin glass phases becomes first order.

Fermionic Heisenberg Glasses with BCS Pairing Interaction

We have analyzed a fermionic infinite-ranged quantum Heisenberg spin glass with BCS coupling in real space in the presence of a magnetic field. It has been possible to locate the transition line between the normal paramagnetic phase (NP) and the phase where there is a long range order corresponding to pair formation in sites (PAIR). The nature of the transition line is also investigated. This transition ends at Tf, the transition temperature between NP and spin glass phase (SG) where the static approximation and replica symmetry ansatz are reliable.

Fermionic Heisenberg Model for Spin Glasses with BCS Pairing Interaction

In the present paper we have analysed a fermionic infinite-ranged quantum Heisenberg spin glass (s=1/2) with a BCS coupling in real space in the presence of an applied magnetic field. This model has been obtained by tracing out the conducting fermions in a superconducting alloy. The magnetic field is applied in the resulting effective model. The problem is formulated in the path integral formalism where the spin variables are defined as bilinear combinations of the Grassmann fields. The static approximation is used to treat both the pairing and the spin terms together with the replica symmetry ansatz. Henceforth, the problem can be reduced to a one site problem. The field in the z direction, Hz, separates the order parameters in two groups: parallel and transverse to it. We have obtained a phase diagram in T-g space with zero transverse spin-glass ordering, g being the strength of the pairing interaction. It has been possible to locate the transition temperature between the normal paramagnetic phase (NP) and the phase where there is a long range order corresponding to formation of pairs (PAIR). The transition ends at the temperature Tf, the transition temperature between the NP phase and the spin glass (SG) phase. Tf decreases for stronger fields allowing us to calculate the NP-PAIR line transition even at low temperatures. The NP-PAIR transition line has a complex dependence with g and Hz, having a tricritical point depending on Hz from where second order transitions occur for higher values of g and first order transitions occur for lower values of g.

Some sum rules for the non-Fermi liquids: new applications taking into account the mass renormalization factor

Re-studying the non-fermi liquid one-particle Green function (NFLGF) we have extended the work of A. Balatsky (Phil. Mag. Lett. 68, 251 (1993)) and L. Yin and S. Chakravarty (Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 10, 805 (1996)), among others. We used the moment approach of W. Nolting (Z. Phys. 255, 25 (1972)) to compute the unknown parameters of the NFLGF's in the framework of the Hubbard model. The zeroth order momentum requires that our one-particle Green function describe fermionic degrees of freedom. In order to satisfy the first order sum rule a renormalization, $γ\neq 1$, of the free electron mass is called for. The second order sum rule or moment imposes a relation between the non-Fermi liquid parameter, $α$, the Coulomb interaction, U, and the frequency cutoff, $ω_c$. We have calculated the effect of the mass renormalization factor, $γ$, on some physical quantities. As a new class of non-Fermi liquid systems, in Appendix A, we have studied two inequivalent coupled Hubbard layers for which we calculated the one-particle spectral functions on the layers and perpendicular to them. We discuss the new features which appear due to the shift in the two effective chemical potentials and proposed some experiments to detect the features founded from our expressions.

Fermionic Ising Glasses with BCS Pairing Interaction. Tricritical Behaviour

We have examined the role of the BCS pairing mechanism in the formation of the magnetic moment and henceforth a spin glass (SG) phase by studying a fermionic Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model with a local BCS coupling between the fermions. This model is obtained by using perturbation theory to trace out the conduction electrons degrees of freedom in conventional superconducting alloys. The model is formulated in the path integral formalism where the spin operators are represented by bilinear combinations of Grassmann fields and it reduces to a single site problem that can be solved within the static approximation with a replica symmetric Ansatz. We argue that this is a valid procedure for values of temperature above the de Almeida-Thouless instability line. The phase diagram in the T-g plane, where g is the strength of the pairing interaction, for fixed variance J^2/N of the random couplings J_{ij}, exhibits three regions: a normal paramagnetic (NP) phase, a spin glass (SG) phase and a pairing (PAIR) phase where there is formation of local pairs. The NP and PAIR phases are separated by a second order transition line g=g_{c}(T) that ends at a tricritical point T_{3}=0.9807J, g_{3}=5,8843J, from where it becomes a first order transition line that meets the line of second order transitions at T_{c}=0.9570J that separates the NP and the SG phases. For T<T_{c} the SG phase is separated from the PAIR phase by a line of first order transitions. These results agree qualitatively with experimental data in Gd_{x}Th_{1-x}RU_{2}.
