Central Exclusive Production of BSM Higgs bosons at the LHC

The prospects for central exclusive diffractive (CED) production of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC are reviewed. These processes can provide important information on the $\cp$-even Higgs bosons, allowing to probe interesting regions of the $\MA$--$\tb$ parameter plane. The sensitivity of the searches in the forward proton mode for the Higgs bosons in the so-called CDM-benchmark scenarios and the effects of fourth-generation models on the CED Higgs production are briefly discussed.

Proceedings of SuperB Workshop VI: New Physics at the Super Flavor Factory

The sixth SuperB Workshop was convened in response to questions posed by the INFN Review Committee, evaluating the SuperB project at the request of INFN. The working groups addressed the capability of a high-luminosity flavor factory that can gather a data sample of 50 to 75 /ab in five years to elucidate New Physics phenomena unearthed at the LHC. This report summarizes the results of the Workshop.

Finiteness and the Higgs mass prediction

Finite Unified Theories (FUTs) are N=1 supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) which can be made finite to all-loop orders, leading to a drastic reduction in the number of free parameters. By confronting the predictions of SU(5) FUTs with the top and bottom quark masses we are able to discriminate among different models. Including further low-energy phenomenology constraints, such as B physics observables, the bound on the SM Higgs mass and the cold dark matter density, we derive predictions for the lightest Higgs boson mass and the sparticle spectrum.

Discovery Reach of Charged MSSM Higgs Bosons at CMS

We review the 5 sigma discovery contours for the charged MSSM Higgs boson at the CMS experiment with 30/fb for the two cases M_H+ < m_t and M_H+ > m_t. In order to analyze the search reach we combine the latest results for the CMS experimental sensitivities based on full simulation studies with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions of MSSM Higgs-boson production and decay properties. Special emphasis is put on the SUSY parameter dependence of the 5 sigma contours. The variation of $μ$ can shift the prospective discovery reach in tan_beta by up to Delta tan_beta = 40.

Selecting Finite Unified Theories with Current Data

Finite Unified Theories (FUTs) are N=1 supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories that can be made all-loop finite, leading to a severe reduction of the free parameters. We review the investigation of FUTs based on SU(5) in the context of low-energy phenomenology observables. Using the restrictions from the top and bottom quark masses, it is possible to discriminate between different models. Including further low-energy constraints such as B-physics observables, the bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass and the cold dark matter density, we derive the predictions for the supersymmetric particle spectrum and the prospects for discoveries at the LHC.

How To Determine SUSY Mass Scales Now

Currently available experimental data from electroweak precision observables (EWPO), B-physics observables (BPO) and cosmological data can be combined to extract the preferred value of SUSY mass scales. We review recent results on the predictions of the masses of supersymmetric particles and the indirect determination of the lightest Higgs boson mass. Special emphasis is put on models going beyond the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM), such as the Non-Universal Higgs Model type I (NUHM1), or gauge and anomaloy mediated SUSY breaking.

Predictions for Supersymmetric Particle Masses in the CMSSM using Indirect Experimental and Cosmological Constraints

In view of the imminent start of the LHC experimental programme, we use the available indirect experimental and cosmological information to estimate the likely range of parameters of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (CMSSM), using a Markov-chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique to sample the parameter space. The 95% confidence-level area in the (m_0, m_1/2) plane of the CMSSM lies largely within the region that could be explored with 1/fb of integrated luminosity at 14 TeV, and much of the 68% confidence-level area lies within the region that could be explored with 50/pb of integrated luminosity at 10 TeV. A same-sign dilepton signal could well be visible in most of the 68% confidence-level area with 1/fb of integrated luminosity at 14 TeV. We discuss the sensitivities of the preferred ranges to variations in the most relevant indirect experimental and cosmological constraints and also to deviations from the universality of the supersymmetry-breaking contributions to the masses of the Higgs bosons.

B-Physics Observables and Electroweak Precision Data in the CMSSM, mGMSB and mAMSB

We explore electroweak precision observables (EWPO) and $B$-physics observables (BPO) in the CMSSM, the mGMSB and the mAMSB. We perform a chi^2 analysis based on the combination of current EWPO and BPO data. For the first time this allows the comparison of the mGMSB and mAMSB in terms of EWPO and BPO with the CMSSM. We find that relatively low mass scales in all three scenarios are favored. However, the current data from EWPO and BPO can hardly exclude any parameters at the level of Delta chi^2 = 9. Remarkably the mAMSB scenario, despite having one free GUT scale parameter less than the other two scenarios, has a somewhat lower total minimum chi^2. We present predictions for the lightest Higgs boson mass, based on the chi^2 analysis of current data, where relatively good compatibility with the bounds from Higgs searches at LEP is found. We also present the predictions for other Higgs sector parameters and SUSY mass scales, allowing to compare the reach of the LHC and the ILC in the three scenarios. We furthermore explore the future sensitivities of the EWPO and BPO for the current best-fit results and for a hypothetical point with somewhat higher mass scales that results in a similar Higgs and SUSY spectrum in the three scenarios. We find that the future improvement of the accuracy of the EWPO and BPO will lead to a significant gain in the indirect parameter determination. The improvement is similar in the CMSSM, mGMSB and mAMSB and will yield constraints to the parameter space even for heavy Higgs and SUSY mass scales.

Confronting Finite Unified Theories with Low-Energy Phenomenology

Finite Unified Theories (FUTs) are N=1 supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories that can be made all-loop finite. The requirement of all-loop finiteness leads to a severe reduction of the free parameters of the theory and, in turn, to a large number of predictions. FUTs are investigated in the context of low-energy phenomenology observables. We present a detailed scanning of the all-loop finite SU(5) FUTs, where we include the theoretical uncertainties at the unification scale and we apply several phenomenological constraints. Taking into account the restrictions from the top and bottom quark masses, we can discriminate between different models. Including further low-energy constraints such as B physics observables, the bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass and the cold dark matter density, we determine the predictions of the allowed parameter space for the Higgs boson sector and the supersymmetric particle spectrum of the selected model.

Higgs Physics at the LHC: Some Theory Aspects

In these lecture notes we review some prospect for the upcoming LHC experiments in view of the exploration of the Standard Model (SM) or its minimal Supersymmetric extension (MSSM). We focus on some theoretical aspects concerning the Higgs sector of the two models. We give results for the precision observables M_W and m_t and their impact on the indirect determination of the Higgs sector. We furthermore review some prospects for the direct measurements in the SM and MSSM Higgs sector.

Z Pole Observables in the MSSM

We present the currently most accurate prediction of Z pole observables such as sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, R_b, R_l, and sigma^0_had in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We take into account the complete one-loop results including the full complex phase dependence, all available MSSM two-loop corrections as well as the full SM results. We furthermore include higher-order corrections in the MSSM Higgs boson sector, entering via virtual Higgs boson contributions. For Gamma(Z -> neutralino{1} neutralino{1}) we present a full one-loop calculation. We analyse the impact of the different sectors of the MSSM with particular emphasis on the effects of the complex phases. The predictions for the Z boson observables and M_W are compared with the current experimental values. Furthermore we provide an estimate of the remaining higher-order uncertainties in the prediction of sin^2 theta_eff.

Charged Higgs Bosons in the MSSM at CMS: Discovery Reach and Parameter Dependence

The search for MSSM Higgs bosons will be an important goal at the LHC. In order to analyze the search reach of the CMS experiment for the charged MSSM Higgs bosons, we combine the latest results for the CMS experimental sensitivities based on full simulation studies with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions of MSSM Higgs-boson production and decay properties. The experimental analyses are done assuming an integrated luminosity of 30 fb^-1 for the two cases M_H+- < m_t and M_H+- > m_t. The results are interpreted as 5 sigma discovery contours in M_H+- - tan_beta planes of the MSSM for various benchmark scenarios. We study the dependence of the 5 sigma contours on the variation of the relevant SUSY parameters. Particular emphasis is put on analyzing the variation of the discovery contours with the Higgs mixing parameter mu. The variation of mu can shift the prospective discovery reach in tan_beta by up to Delta tan_beta = 40.

Central Exclusive Diffractive MSSM Higgs-Boson Production at the LHC

The prospects for central exclusive diffractive (CED) production of MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC are reviewed. It is shown that the CED channels, making use of forward proton detectors at the LHC installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS, can provide important information on the Higgs sector of the MSSM. In particular, CED production of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons h and H and their decays into bottom quarks has the potential to probe interesting regions of the M_A--tan_beta parameter plane of the MSSM and may give access to the bottom Yukawa couplings of the Higgs bosons up to masses of M_H \approx 250 GeV.

Collider aspects of flavour physics at high Q

This review presents flavour related issues in the production and decays of heavy states at LHC, both from the experimental side and from the theoretical side. We review top quark physics and discuss flavour aspects of several extensions of the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry, little Higgs model or models with extra dimensions. This includes discovery aspects as well as measurement of several properties of these heavy states. We also present public available computational tools related to this topic.

B, D and K decays

With the advent of the LHC, we will be able to probe New Physics (NP) up to energy scales almost one order of magnitude larger than it has been possible with present accelerator facilities. While direct detection of new particles will be the main avenue to establish the presence of NP at the LHC, indirect searches will provide precious complementary information, since most probably it will not be possible to measure the full spectrum of new particles and their couplings through direct production. In particular, precision measurements and computations in the realm of flavour physics are expected to play a key role in constraining the unknown parameters of the Lagrangian of any NP model emerging from direct searches at the LHC. The aim of Working Group 2 was twofold: on one hand, to provide a coherent, up-to-date picture of the status of flavour physics before the start of the LHC; on the other hand, to initiate activities on the path towards integrating information on NP from high-pT and flavour data.

Tevatron-for-LHC Report: Higgs

The search for Higgs bosons in both the standard model and its extensions is well under way at the Tevatron. As the integrated luminosity collected increases into the multiple inverse femptobarn range, these searches are becoming very interesting indeed. Meanwhile, the construction of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its associated experiments at CERN are nearing completion. In this TeV4LHC workshop, it was realized that any experience at the Tevatron with respect to backgrounds, experimental techniques and theoretical calculations that can be verified at the Tevatron which have relevance for future measurements at the LHC were important. Studies and contributions to these efforts were made in three broad categories: theoretical calculations of Higgs production and decay mechanisms; theoretical calculations and discussions pertaining to non-standard model Higgs bosons; and experimental reviews, analyses and developments at both the Tevatron and the upcoming LHC experiments. All of these contributions represent real progress towards the elucidation of the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking.

Prediction for the Lightest Higgs Boson Mass in the CMSSM using Indirect Experimental Constraints

Measurements at low energies provide interesting indirect information about masses of particles that are (so far) too heavy to be produced directly. Motivated by recent progress in consistently and rigorously calculating electroweak precision observables and flavour related observables, we derive the preferred value for m_h in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM), obtained from a fit taking into account electroweak precision data, flavour physics observables and the abundance of Cold Dark Matter. No restriction is imposed on m_h itself: the experimental bound from direct Higgs boson search at LEP is not included in the fit. A multi-parameter chi^2 is minimized with respect to the free parameters of the CMSSM, M_0, M_1/2, A_0, tan(beta). A statistical comparison with the Standard Model fit to the electroweak precision data is made. The preferred value for the lightest Higgs boson mass in the CMSSM is found to be m_h^CMSSM = 110+8-10(exp.)+-3(theo.) GeV/c^2, where the first uncertainty is experimental and the second uncertainty is theoretical. This value is in agreement with the limit from direct Higgs boson search at LEP.
