The Higgs sector of the complex MSSM at two-loop order: QCD contributions

Results are presented for the leading two-loop contributions of O(alpha_t alpha_s) to the masses and mixing effects in the Higgs sector of the MSSM with complex parameters. They are obtained in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach using on-shell renormalization. The full dependence on all complex phases is taken into account. The renormalization of the appropriate contributions of the Higgs-boson sector and the scalar top and bottom sector is discussed. Our numerical analysis for the lightest MSSM Higgs-boson mass is based on the new two-loop corrections, supplemented by the full one-loop result. The corrections induced by the phase variation in the scalar top sector are enhanced by the two-loop contributions. We find that the corresponding shift in M_h1 can amount to 5 GeV.

CP-violating Loop Effects in the Higgs Sector of the MSSM

CP-violating effects in the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters (cMSSM) are induced by potentially large higher-order corrections. As a consequence, all three neutral Higgs bosons can mix with each other. Recent results for loop corrections in the Higgs sector of the cMSSM are reviewed. Results for propagator-type corrections of O(alpha_t alpha_s) and complete one-loop results for Higgs cascade decays of the kind h_a -> h_b h_c are summarised, and the proper treatment of external Higgs bosons in Higgs-boson production and decay processes is discussed.

High-Precision Tests of the MSSM with GigaZ

We review the physics potential of the GigaZ option of the International Linear Collider (ILC) for probing the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) via the sensitivity of the electroweak precision observables measured at the ILC to quantum corrections. A particular focus is put on the effective leptonic weak mixing angle, sin^2_theta_eff. The MSSM predictions take into account the complete one-loop results including the full complex phase dependence, all available MSSM two-loop corrections as well as the full Standard Model (SM) results. We find that the anticipated experimental accuracy at the ILC with GigaZ option may resolve the virtual effects of SUSY particles even in scenarios where the SUSY particles are so heavy that they escape direct detection at the LHC and the first phase of the ILC.

Higgs Masses and More in the Complex MSSM with FeynHiggs

We present the latest version 2.6 of FeynHiggs, a program for computing MSSM Higgs-boson masses and related observables, such as mixing angles, branching ratios, and couplings, including state-of-the-art higher-order contributions. The most important new feature is the inclusion of the fully complex O(α_tα_s) two-loop corrections, which enables FeynHiggs to give the most precise Higgs-mass evaluation in the complex MSSM in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach to date.

WMAP-Compliant Benchmark Surfaces for MSSM Higgs Bosons

We explore `benchmark surfaces' suitable for studying the phenomenology of Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM), which are chosen so that the supersymmetric relic density is generally compatible with the range of cold dark matter density preferred by WMAP and other observations. These benchmark surfaces are specified assuming that gaugino masses m_{1/2}, soft trilinear supersymmetry-breaking parameters A_0 and the soft supersymmetry-breaking contributions m_0 to the squark and slepton masses are universal, but not those associated with the Higgs multiplets (the NUHM framework). The benchmark surfaces may be presented as M_A-tan_beta planes with fixed or systematically varying values of the other NUHM parameters, such as m_0, m_{1/2}, A_0 and the Higgs mixing parameter mu. We discuss the prospects for probing experimentally these benchmark surfaces at the Tevatron collider, the LHC, the ILC, in B physics and in direct dark-matter detection experiments. An Appendix documents developments in the FeynHiggs code that enable the user to explore for her/himself the WMAP-compliant benchmark surfaces.

MSSM precision physics at the Z resonance

LEP and SLC provide accurate data on the process (e^+e^- -> f bar f) at the Z resonance. The GigaZ option at a future linear e^+e^- collider (ILC) will further improve these measurements. As a consequence, theory predictions with sufficiently smaller errors are necessary in order to fully exploit the experimental accuracies and to derive indirect bounds on the scales of new physics. Here we review the currently most accurate predictions of the Z pole observables (e.g. sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, sigma^0_had) in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). These predictions contain the complete one-loop results including the full complex phase dependence, all available MSSM two-loop corrections, as well as all relevant Standard Model contributions.

Higgs-Boson Benchmarks in Agreement with CDM, EWPO and BPO

We explore `benchmark planes' in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) that are in agreement with the measured cold dark matter (CDM) density, electroweak precision observables (EWPO) and B physics observables (BPO). The M_A-tan_beta planes are specified assuming that gaugino masses m_{1/2}, soft trilinear supersymmetry-breaking parameters A_0 and the soft supersymmetry-breaking contributions m_0 to the squark and slepton masses are universal, but not those associated with the Higgs multiplets (the NUHM framework). We discuss the prospects for probing experimentally these benchmark surfaces at the Tevatron collider, the LHC and the ILC.

Electroweak Precision Physics from Low to High Energies

Electroweak precision observables (EWPO) can give valuable information about the last unknown paramter of the Standard Model (SM), the Higgs-boson mass M_H^SM. EWPO can also restrict the parameter space of new physics models (NPM) such as the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We review the respective constraints from the W boson mass, the effective leptonic mixing angle, the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon and electric dipole moments. Within the MSSM also the lightest Higgs-boson mass, M_h, is discussed as a precision observable. The EWPO, supplemented with B physics observables and astrophysical data can be used to determine indirectly the preferred mass scales of Supersymmetry and M_h.

Heavy MSSM Higgs Bosons at CMS: "LHC wedge" and Higgs-Mass Precision

The search for MSSM Higgs bosons will be an important goal at the LHC. In order to analyze the search reach of the CMS experiment for the heavy neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, we combine the latest results for the CMS experimental sensitivities based on full simulation studies with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions of MSSM Higgs-boson properties. The experimental analyses are done assuming an integrated luminosity of 30 or 60 fb^-1. The results are interpreted as 5$ \si$ discovery contours in MSSM M_A-tan_beta benchmark scenarios. Special emphasis is put on the variation of the Higgs mixing parameter mu. While the variation of mu can shift the prospective discovery reach (and correspondingly the ``LHC wedge'' region) by about Delta tan_beta= 10, the discovery reach is rather stable with respect to the impact of other supersymmetric parameters. Within the discovery region we analyze the accuracy with which the masses of the heavy neutral Higgs bosons can be determined. An accuracy of 1-4% should be achievable, depending on M_A and tan_beta.

Finite Unified Theories confronted with low-energy phenomenology

Finite Unified Theories (FUTs) are N=1 supersymmetric Grand Unified Theories that can be made all-loop finite. The requirement of all-loop finiteness leads to a severe reduction of the free parameters of the theory and, in turn, to a large number of predictions. Here SU(5) FUTs are investigated in the context of low-energy phenomenology observables. We present a detailed scanning of these FUTs, including theoretical uncertainties at the unification scale and applying all phenomenological constraints. Taking into account the restrictions from the top and bottom quark masses, we can discriminate between different models. Including further low-energy constraints such as $B$ physics observables, the bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass and the cold dark matter density, we determine the predictions of the allowed parameter space for the Higgs boson sector and the supersymmetric particle spectrum of the model.

Studying the MSSM Higgs sector by forward proton tagging at the LHC

We show that the use of forward proton detectors at the LHC installed at 220 m and 420 m distance around ATLAS and / or CMS can provide important information on the Higgs sector of the MSSM. We analyse central exclusive production of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons h and H and their decays into bottom quarks, tau leptons and W bosons in different MSSM benchmark scenarios. Using plausible estimates for the achievable experimental efficiencies and the relevant background processes, we find that the prospective sensitivity of the diffractive Higgs production will allow to probe interesting regions of the M_A--tan_beta parameter plane of the MSSM. Central exclusive production of the CP-even Higgs bosons of the MSSM may provide a unique opportunity to access the bottom Yukawa couplings of the Higgs bosons up to masses of M_H \lsim 250 GeV. We also discuss the prospects for identifying the CP-odd Higgs boson, A, in diffractive processes at the LHC.

Consistent Treatment of Imaginary Contributions to Higgs-Boson Masses in the MSSM

We show how the imaginary parts of the Higgs-Boson self-energies in the MSSM are consistenly taken into account in the Higgs-Boson mass determination. In a numerical example we find effects of 5 GeV in the mass difference of the two heavy neutral Higgs bosons. The imaginary contributions have been included into the code FeynHiggs.

Interplay of Electroweak Precision Observables and B Physics Observables

Indirect information about the possible scale of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking is provided by B physics observables (BPO) as well as electroweak precision observables (EWPO). We review the combination of the constraints imposed by recent measurements of the BPO BR(b -> s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu+ mu-), BR(B_u -> tau nu_tau) and Delta M_{B_s} with those obtained from the experimental measurements of the EWPO M_W, sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, (g-2)_mu and M_h. We perform a chi^2 fit to the parameters of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (CMSSM), in which the SUSY-breaking parameters are universal at the GUT scale. Assuming that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) provides the cold dark matter density preferred by WMAP and other cosmological data, we confirm the preference found previously for a relatively low SUSY-breaking scale, though there is some slight tension between the EWPO and the BPO.

How light can the lightest neutralino be?

We show that in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, the mass of the lightest neutralino is experimentally unconstrained if the GUT relation between the gaugino mass parameters M_1 and M_2 is dropped. We discuss what the impact of light or massless neutralinos would be on their production at LEP, as well as on electroweak precision data and rare decays.

Light Heavy MSSM Higgs Bosons at Large tan_beta

The region of MSSM Higgs parameter space currently excluded by the CDF Collaboration, based on an analysis of ~1 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity, is less than the expected sensitivity. We analyze the potential implications of the persistence of this discrepancy within the MSSM, assuming that the soft supersymmetry-breaking contributions to scalar masses are universal, apart from those to the Higgs masses (the NUHM model). We find that a light heavy MSSM Higgs signal in the unexcluded part of the sensitive region could indeed be accommodated in this simple model, even after taking into account other constraints from cold dark matter, electroweak precision observables and B physics observables. In this case the NUHM suggests that supersymmetric signatures should also be detectable in the near future in some other measurements such as BR(B_s -> mu+ mu-), BR(b -> s gamma) and (g-2)_mu, and M_h would have to be very close to the LEP exclusion limit. In addition, the dark matter candidate associated with this model should be on the verge of detection in direct detection experiments.

The Supersymmetric Parameter Space in Light of B-physics Observables and Electroweak Precision Data

Indirect information about the possible scale of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking is provided by B-physics observables (BPO) as well as electroweak precision observables (EWPO). We combine the constraints imposed by recent measurements of the BPO BR(b -> s gamma), BR(B_s -> mu^+ mu^-), BR(B_u -> tau nu_tau) and Delta M_{B_s} with those obtained from the experimental measurements of the EWPO M_W, sin^2 theta_eff, Gamma_Z, (g-2)_mu and M_h, incorporating the latest theoretical calculations of these observables within the Standard Model and supersymmetric extensions. We perform a chi^2 fit to the parameters of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (CMSSM), in which the SUSY-breaking parameters are universal at the GUT scale, and the non-universal Higgs model (NUHM), in which this constraint is relaxed for the soft SUSY-breaking contributions to the Higgs masses. Assuming that the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) provides the cold dark matter density preferred by WMAP and other cosmological data, we scan over the remaining parameter space. Within the CMSSM, we confirm the preference found previously for a relatively low SUSY-breaking scale, though there is some slight tension between the EWPO and the BPO. In studies of some specific NUHM scenarios compatible with the cold dark matter constraint we investigate M_A-tan_beta planes and find preferred regions that have values of chi^2 somewhat lower than in the CMSSM.

Search for Heavy Neutral MSSM Higgs Bosons with CMS: Reach and Higgs-Mass Precision

The search for MSSM Higgs bosons will be an important goal at the LHC. We analyze the search reach of the CMS experiment for the heavy neutral MSSM Higgs bosons with an integrated luminosity of 30 or 60 fb^-1. This is done by combining the latest results for the CMS experimental sensitivities based on full simulation studies with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions of MSSM Higgs-boson properties. The results are interpreted in MSSM benchmark scenarios in terms of the parameters tan_beta and the Higgs-boson mass scale, M_A. We study the dependence of the 5 sigma discovery contours in the M_A-tan_beta plane on variations of the other supersymmetric parameters. The largest effects arise from a change in the higgsino mass parameter mu, which enters both via higher-order radiative corrections and via the kinematics of Higgs decays into supersymmetric particles. While the variation of $μ$ can shift the prospective discovery reach (and correspondingly the ``LHC wedge'' region) by about Delta tan_beta = 10, we find that the discovery reach is rather stable with respect to the impact of other supersymmetric parameters. Within the discovery region we analyze the accuracy with which the masses of the heavy neutral Higgs bosons can be determined. We find that an accuracy of 1-4% should be achievable, which could make it possible in favourable regions of the MSSM parameter space to experimentally resolve the signals of the two heavy MSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC.

The Road Towards the ILC: Higgs, Top/QCD, Loops

The International Linear e+e- Collider (ILC) could go into operation in the second half of the upcoming decade. Experimental analyses and theory calculations for the physics at the ILC are currently performed. We review recent progress, as presented at the LCWS06 in Bangalore, India, in the fields of Higgs boson physics and top/QCD. Also the area of loop calculations, necessary to achieve the required theory precision, is included.
