A Detailed Investigation of First and Second Order Supersymmetries for Off-Shell N = 2 and N = 4 Supermultiplets

This paper investigates the d = 4, N = 4 Abelian, global Super-Yang Mills system (SUSY-YM). It is shown how the N = 2 Fayet Hypermultiplet (FH) and N = 2 vector multiplet (VM) are embedded within. The central charges provide a plethora of information as to further symmetries of the Lagrangian. Several of these symmetries are calculated to second order. It is hoped that investigations such as these may yield avenues to help solve the auxiliary field closure problem for d = 4, N = 4, SUSY-YM and the d = 4, N = 2 Fayet-Hypermultiplet, without using an infinite number of auxiliary fields.

Automorphism Properties of Adinkras

Adinkras are a graphical tool for studying off-shell representations of supersymmetry. In this paper we efficiently classify the automorphism groups of Adinkras relative to a set of local parameters. Using this, we classify Adinkras according to their equivalence and isomorphism classes. We extend previous results dealing with characterization of Adinkra degeneracy via matrix products, and present algorithms for calculating the automorphism groups of Adinkras and partitioning Adinkras into their isomorphism classes.

Ectoplasm & Superspace Integration Measure for 2D Supergravity with Four Spinorial Supercurrents

Building on a previous derivation of the local chiral projector for a two dimensional superspace with eight real supercharges, we provide the complete density projection formula required for locally supersymmetrical theories in this context. The derivation of this result is shown to be very efficient using techniques based on the Ectoplasmic construction of local measures in superspace.

Seeking the Loop Quantum Gravity Barbero-Immirzi Parameter and Field in 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 Supergravity

We embed the Loop Quantum Gravity Barbero-Immirzi parameter and field within an action describing 4D, $\cal N$ = 1 supergravity and thus within a Low Energy Effective Action of Superstring/M-Theory. We use the fully gauge-covariant description of supergravity in (curved) superspace. The gravitational constant is replaced with the vacuum expectation value of a scalar field, which in local supersymmetry is promoted to a complex, covariantly chiral scalar superfield. The imaginary part of this superfield couples to a supersymmetric Holst term. The Holst term also serves as a starting point in the Loop Quantum Gravity action. This suggest the possibility of a relation between Loop Quantum Gravity and supersymmetric string theory, where the Barbero-Immirzi parameter and field of the former play the role of the supersymmetric axion in the latter. Adding matter fermions in Loop Quantum Gravity may require the extension of the Holst action through the Nieh-Yan topological invariant, while in pure, matter-free supergravity their supersymmetric extensions are the same. We show that, when the Barbero-Immirzi parameter is promoted to a field in the context of 4D supergravity, it is equivalent to adding a dynamical complex chiral (dilaton-axion) superfield with a non-trivial kinetic term (or Kähler potential), coupled to supergravity.

Superstring-inspired supergravity as the universal source of inflation and quintessence

We prove (in superspace) the equivalence between the higher-derivative N=1 supergravity, defined by a holomorphic function F of the chiral scalar curvature superfield, and the standard theory of a chiral scalar superfield with a chiral superpotential W, coupled to the (minimal) Poincare supergravity in four spacetime dimensions. The relation between the holomorphic functions F and W is found. It can be used as the technical framework for the possible scenario unifying the early Universe inflation and the present Universe acceleration. We speculate on the possible origin of our model as the effective supergravity generated by quantum superstrings, with a dilaton-axion field as the leading field component of the chiral superfield.

Supergravity loop contributions to brane world supersymmetry breaking

We compute the supergravity loop contributions to the visible sector scalar masses in the simplest 5D `brane-world' model. Supersymmetry is assumed to be broken away from the visible brane and the contributions are UV finite due to 5D locality. We perform the calculation with N = 1 supergraphs, using a formulation of 5D supergravity in terms of N = 1 superfields. We compute contributions to the 4D effective action that determine the visible scalar masses, and we find that the mass-squared terms are negative.

The Fundamental Supersymmetry Challenge Remains

In the following, we will review the fundamental problem that prevents a complete understanding of a theory of supersymmetrical field representations and describe its possible relation to a similar problem facing superstring/M-theory.

Towards a Unified Theory of Massless Superfields of All Superspins

We describe the ``universal'' action for massless superfields of all superspins in N = 1, D = 4 anti-de Sitter superspace as a gauge theory of unconstrained superfields taking their values in the commutative algebra of analytic functions over a one-sheeted hyperboloid in $R^{3,1}$. The action is invariant under N = 2 supersymmetry transformations which form a closed algebra off the mass-shell.

N = 2 Supersymmetry of Higher Superspin Massless Theories

We present N=2 supersymmetry transformations, both in N=1, D=4 Minkowski and anti-de Sitter superspaces, for higher superspin massless theories. It is noted that the existence of dual versions of massless supermultiplets with arbitrary superspin s may provide a basis for understanding duality in N=1, D=4 superstring theory. We further conjecture that the N=1, D=4 supergravity pre-potential together with all higher superspin s pre-potentials are components of an N=1, D=4 superstring pre-potential.

A Canticle on (4,0) Supergravity-Scalar Multiplet Systems for a ``Cognoscente''

Extending prior investigations, we study three of the the four distinct minimal (4,0) scalar multiplets coupled to (4,0) supergravity. It is found that the scalar multiplets manifest their differences at the component level by possessing totally different couplings to the supergravity fields. Only the SM-I multiplet possesses a conformal coupling. For the remaining multiplets, terms linear in the world sheet curvature and/or SU(2) gauge field strengths are required to appear in the action by local supersymmetry.

2D (4,4) Hypermultiplets

The structure of on-shell and off-shell 2D, (4,4) supersymmetric scalar multiplets is investigated, in components and in superspace. We reach the surprising result that there exist eight {\underline {distinct}} on-shell versions and an even greater variety of off-shell ones. The off-shell generalised tensor and relaxed N = 4 multiplets are introduced in superspace, and their universal invariant self-interaction is constructed.

No N=4 Strings on Wolf Spaces

We generalize the standard $N=2$ supersymmetric Kazama-Suzuki coset construction to the $N=4$ case by requiring the {\it non-linear} (Goddard-Schwimmer) $N=4~$ quasi-superconformal algebra to be realized on cosets. The constraints that we find allow very simple geometrical interpretation and have the Wolf spaces as their natural solutions. Our results obtained by using components-level superconformal field theory methods are fully consistent with standard results about $N=4$ supersymmetric two-dimensional non-linear sigma-models and $N=4$ WZNW models on Wolf spaces. We construct the actions for the latter and express the quaternionic structure, appearing in the $N=4$ coset solution, in terms of the symplectic structure associated with the underlying Freudenthal triple system. Next, we gauge the $N=4~$ QSCA and build a quantum BRST charge for the $N=4$ string propagating on a Wolf space. Surprisingly, the BRST charge nilpotency conditions rule out the non-trivial Wolf spaces as consistent string backgrounds.

Ultra-Multiplets: A New Representation of Rigid 2D, N = 8 Supersymmetry

By utilizing a new procedure (the RADIO method) for deriving on-shell 2D, 2N-extended multiplets from off-shell 2D, N-extended multiplets, we derive a new on-shell 2D, N = 8 representation; the ultra-multiplet. By twisting with respect to parity, we show that many variant versions of this supermultiplet also exist.
