Production of D-mesons in $p$+$p$ and $p$+Pb collisions at LHC energies

We present theoretical model comparison with published ALICE results for D-mesons (D$^0$, D$^+$ and D$^{*+}$) in $p$+$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV and $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. Event generator HIJING, transport calculation of AMPT and calculations from NLO(MNR) and FONLL have been used for this study. We found that HIJING and AMPT model predictions are matching with published D-meson cross-sections in $p$+$p$ collisions, while both under-predict the same in $p$+Pb collisions. Attempts were made to explain the $R_{pPb}$ data using NLO-pQCD(MNR), FONLL and other above mentioned models.

Dynamics of an Anisotropic Universe in $f(R,T)$ Theory

Dynamics of an anisotropic universe is studied in $f(R,T)$ gravity using a rescaled functional $f(R,T)$. Three models have been constructed assuming a power law expansion of the universe. Physical features of the models are discussed. The model parameters are constrained from a dimensional analysis. It is found from the work that, the $BVI_h$ model in the modified gravity can favour quintessence and phantom phase.

Anisotropic dark energy model with a hybrid scale factor

Anisotropic dark energy model with dynamic pressure anisotropies along different spatial directions is constructed at the backdrop of a spatially homogeneous diagonal Bianchi type $V$ $(BV)$ space-time in the framework of General Relativity. A time varying deceleration parameter generating a hybrid scale factor is considered to simulate a cosmic transition from early deceleration to late time acceleration. We found that the pressure anisotropies along the $y-$ and $z-$ axes evolve dynamically and continue along with the cosmic expansion without being subsided even at late times. The anisotropic pressure along the $x-$axis becomes equal to the mean fluid pressure. At a late phase of cosmic evolution, the model enters into a phantom region. From a state finder diagnosis, it is found that the model overlaps with $Λ$CDM at late phase of cosmic time.

Refractive Indices of Semiconductors from Energy gaps

An empirical relation based on energy gap and refractive index data has been proposed in the present study to calculate the refractive index of semiconductors. The proposed model is then applied to binary as well as ternary semiconductors for a wide range of energy gap. Using the relation, dielectric constants of some III-V group semiconductors are calculated. The calculated values for different group of binary semiconductors, alkali halides and ternary semiconductors fairly agree with other calculations and known values over a wide range of energy gap. The temperature variation of refractive index for some binary semiconductors have been calculated.

Energy and momentum of Bianchi Type VI_h Universes

We obtain the energy and momentum of the Bianchi type VI_h universes using different prescriptions for the energy-momentum complexes in the framework of general relativity. The energy and momentum of the Bianchi VI_h universe are found to be zero for the parameter h = -1 of the metric. The vanishing of these results support the conjecture of Tryon that Universe must have a zero net value for all conserved quantities. This also supports the work of Nathan Rosen with the Robertson-Walker metric. Moreover, it raises an interesting question: "Why h=-1 case is so special?"

Anisotropic Cosmological Model with Variable G and Lambda

Anisotropic Bianchi-III cosmological model is investigated with variable gravitational and cosmological constants in the framework of Einstein's general relativity. The shear scalar is considered to be proportional to the expansion scalar. The dynamics of the anisotropic universe with variable G and Lambda are discussed. Without assuming any specific forms for Lambda and the metric potentials, we have tried to extract the time variation of G and Lambda from the anisotropic model. The extracted G and Lambda are in conformity with the present day observation. Basing upon the observational limits, the behaviour and range of the effective equation of state parameter are discussed.

Cosmic Acceleration and Anisotropic models with Magnetic field

Plane symmetric cosmological models are investigated with or without any dark energy components in the field equations. Keeping an eye on the recent observational constraints concerning the accelerating phase of expansion of the universe, the role of magnetic field is assessed. In the absence of dark energy components, magnetic field can favour an accelerating model even if we take a linear relationship between the directional Hubble parameters. In presence of dark energy components in the form of a time varying cosmological constant, the influence of magnetic field is found to be limited.

Kaluza-Klein cosmological model in $f(R,T)$ gravity with $Λ(T)$

A class of Kaluza-Klein cosmological models in $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity have been investigated. In the work, we have considered the functional $f(R,T)$ to be in the form $f(R,T)=f(R)+f(T)$ with $f(R)=λR$ and $f(T)=λT$. Such a choice of the functional $f(R,T)$ leads to an evolving effective cosmological constant $Λ$ which depends on the stress energy tensor. The source of the matter field is taken to be a perfect cosmic fluid. The exact solutions of the field equations are obtained by considering a constant deceleration parameter which leads two different aspects of the volumetric expansion namely a power law and an exponential volumetric expansion. Keeping an eye on the accelerating nature of the universe in the present epoch, the dynamics and physical behaviour of the models have been discussed. From statefinder diagnostic pair we found that the model with exponential volumetric expansion behaves more like a $Λ$CDM model.

Cosmic Strings and Anisotropic Universe

Plane symmetric bulk viscous string cosmological models with strange quark matter are investigated. We have incorporated bulk viscous pressure to study its affect on the properties of the model. Assuming an anisotropic relationship among the metric potentials, we have tried to put some constraints on the anisotropic parameter.

Late time Acceleration and Role of Skewness in Anisotropic models

We study cosmological models with anisotropy in expansion rates in the context of the recent observations predicting an accelerating universe. In the absence of any anisotropy in the cosmic fluid, it is shown that the role of skewness in directional Hubble rates is crucial in deciding the behavior of the model. We find that incorporation of skewness leads to a more evolving effective equation of state parameter.

An effective Nuclear Model: from Nuclear Matter to Finite Nuclei

The momentum and density dependence of mean fields in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter are analysed using the simple density dependent finite range effective interaction containing a single Gaussian term alongwith the zero-range terms. Within the formalism developed, it is possible to reproduce the various diverging predictions on the momentum and density dependence of isovector part of the mean field in asymmetric matter. The finite nucleus calculation is formulated for the simple Gaussian interaction in the framework of quasilocal density functional theory. The prediction of energies and charge radii of the interaction for the spherical nuclei compares well with the results of other effective theories.

Proton radioactivity half lives with Skyrme interactions

The potential barrier impeding the spontaneous emission of protons in the proton radioactive nuclei is calculated as the sum of nuclear, Coulomb and centrifugal contributions. The nuclear part of the proton-nucleus interaction potential is obtained in the energy density formalism using Skyrme effective interaction that results into a simple algebraic expression. The half-lives of the proton emitters are calculated for the different Skyrme sets within the improved WKB framework. The results are found to be in reasonable agreement with the earlier results obtained for more complicated calculations involving finite range interactions.

Neutron-proton effective mass splitting and thermal evolution in neutron rich matter

The thermal evolution of properties of neutron rich asymmetric nuclear matter such as entropy density, internal energy density, free energy density and pressure are studied in the non-relativistic mean field theory using finite range effective interactions. In this framework the thermal evolution of nuclear matter properties is directly connected to the neutron and proton effective mass properties. Depending on the magnitude of neutron-proton effective mass splittings, two distinct behaviours in the thermal evolution of nuclear matter properties are noticed.

Proton radioactivity with a Yukawa effective interaction

The half lives of proton radioactivity of proton emitters are investigated theoretically. Proton-nucleus interaction potentials are obtained by folding the densities of the daughter nuclei with a finite range effective nucleon-nucleon interaction having Yukawa form. The Wood-Saxon density distributions for the nuclei used in calculating the nuclear as well as the Coulomb interaction potentials are predictions of the interaction. The quantum mechanical tunneling probability is calculated within the WKB framework. These calculations provide reasonable estimates for the observed proton radioactivity lifetimes. The effects of neutron-proton effective mass splitting in neutron rich asymmetric matter as well as the nuclear matter incompressibility on the decay probability are investigated.

Magnetocaloric effect in the intermetallic compound DyNi

Magnetic and heat capacity measurements have been carried out on the polycrystalline sample of DyNi which crystallizes in the orthorhombic FeB structure (space group Pnma). This compound is ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature of 59 K. Magnetization-field isotherms at low temperatures shows a step-like behavior characteristic of metamagnetic transitions. The magnetocaloric effect has been measured both in terms of isothermal magnetic entropy change and adiabatic temperature change for various applied magnetic fields. The maximum values of the entropy change and the temperature change are found to be 19 Jkg-1K-1 and 4.5 K, respectively, for a field of 60 kOe. The large magnetocaloric effect is attributed to the field-induced spin-flop metamagnetism occurring in this compound, which has a noncollinear magnetic structure at low fields.
