Controllable simulation of topological phases and edge states with quantum walk

We simulate various topological phenomena in condense matter, such as formation of different topological phases, boundary and edge states, through two types of quantum walk with step-dependent coins. Particularly, we show that one-dimensional quantum walk with step-dependent coin simulates all types of topological phases in BDI family, as well as all types of boundary and edge states. In addition, we show that step-dependent coins provide the number of steps as a controlling factor over the simulations. In fact, with tuning number of steps, we can determine the occurrences of boundary, edge states and topological phases, their types and where they should be located. These two features make quantum walks versatile and highly controllable simulators of topological phases, boundary, edge states, and topological phase transitions. We also report on emergences of cell-like structures for simulated topological phenomena. Each cell contains all types of boundary (edge) states and topological phases of BDI family.

Fidelity susceptibility near topological phase transitions in quantum walks

The notion of fidelity susceptibility, introduced within the context of quantum metric tensor, has been an important quantity to characterize the criticality near quantum phase transitions. We demonstrate that for topological phase transitions in Dirac models, provided the momentum space is treated as the manifold of the quantum metric, the fidelity susceptibility coincides with the curvature function whose integration gives the topological invariant. Thus the quantum criticality of the curvature function near a topological phase transition also describes the criticality of the fidelity susceptibility, and the correlation length extracted from the curvature function also gives a momentum scale over which the fidelity susceptibility decays. To map out the profile and criticality of the fidelity susceptibility, we turn to quantum walks that simulate one-dimensional class BDI and two-dimensional class D Dirac models, and demonstrate their accuracy in capturing the critical exponents and scaling laws near topological phase transitions.

One-dimensional quantum walks driven by two-entangled-qubit coins

We study one-dimensional quantum walk with four internal degrees of freedom resulted from two entangled qubits. We will demonstrate that the entanglement between the qubits and its corresponding coin operator enable one to steer the walker's state from a classical to standard quantum-walk behavior, and a novel one. Additionally, we report on self-trapped behavior and perfect transfer with highest velocity for the walker. We also show that symmetry of probability density distribution, the most probable place to find the walker and evolution of the entropy are subject to initial entanglement between the qubits. In fact, we confirm that if the two qubits are separable (zero entanglement), entropy becomes minimum whereas its maximization happens if the two qubits are initially maximally entangled. We will make contrast between cases where the entangled qubits are affected by coin operator identically or else, and show considerably different deviation in walker's behavior and its properties.

Toward simulation of topological phenomenas with one-, two- and three-dimensional quantum walks

We study the simulation of the topological phases in three subsequent dimensions with quantum walks. We are mainly focused on the completion of a table for the protocols of the quantum walk that could simulate different family of the topological phases in one, two dimensions and take the first initiatives to build necessary protocols for three-dimensional cases. We also highlight the possible boundary states that can be observed for each protocol in different dimensions and extract the conditions for their emergences or absences. To further enrich the simulation of the topological phenomenas, we include step-dependent coins in the evolution operators of the quantum walks. Consequently, this leads to step-dependency of the simulated topological phenomenas and their properties which in turn introduce dynamicality as a feature to simulated topological phases and boundary states. This dynamicality provides the step-number of the quantum walk as a mean to control and engineer the number of topological phases and boundary states, their populations, types and even occurrences.

Simulation of geodesic trajectory of charged BTZ black holes in massive gravity

In order to classify and understand the spacetime structure, investigation of the geodesic motion of massive and massless particles is a key tool. So the geodesic equation is a central equation of gravitating systems and the subject of geodesics in the black hole dictionary attracted much attention. In this paper, we give a full description of geodesic motions in three-dimensional spacetime. We investigate the geodesics near charged BTZ black holes and then generalize our prescriptions to the case of massive gravity. We show that electric charge is a critical parameter for categorizing the geodesic motions of both lightlike and timelike particles. In addition, we classify the type of geodesics based on the particle properties and geometry of spacetime.

Simulation of the multiphase configuration and phase transitions with quantum walks utilizing a step-dependent coin

Quantum walks are versatile simulators of topological phases and phase transitions as observed in condensed matter physics. Here, we utilize a step dependent coin in quantum walks and investigate what topological phases we can simulate with it, their topological invariants, bound states and possibility of phase transitions. These quantum walks simulate non-trivial phases characterized by topological invariants (winding number) $\pm 1$ which are similar to the ones observed in topological insulators and polyacetylene. We confirm that the number of phases and their corresponding bound states increase step dependently. In contrast, the size of topological phase and distance between two bound states are decreasing functions of steps resulting into formation of multiple phases as quantum walks proceed (multiphase configuration). We show that, in the bound states, the winding number and group velocity are ill-defined, and the second moment of the probability density distribution in position space undergoes an abrupt change. Therefore, there are phase transitions taking place over the bound states and between two topological phases with different winding numbers.

Nonlinearly charged dyonic black holes

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamics of dyonic black holes in the presence of Born-Infeld electromagnetic field. We show that electric-magnetic duality reported for dyonic solutions with Maxwell field is omitted in case of Born-Infeld generalization. We also confirm that generalization to nonlinear field provides the possibility of canceling the effects of cosmological constant. This is done for nonlinearity parameter with $10^{-33}\mbox{ eV}^{2}$ order of magnitude which is high nonlinearity regime. In addition, we show that for small electric/magnetic charge and high nonlinearity regime, black holes would develop critical behavior and several phases. In contrast, for highly charged case and Maxwell limits (small nonlinearity), black holes have one thermal stable phase. We also find that the pressure of the cold black holes is bounded by some constraints on its volume while hot black holes' pressure has physical behavior for any volume. In addition, we report on possibility of existences of triple point and reentrant of phase transition in thermodynamics of these black holes. Finally, We show that if electric and magnetic charges are identical, the behavior of our solutions would be Maxwell like (independent of nonlinear parameter and field). In other words, nonlinearity of electromagnetic field becomes evident only when these black holes are charged magnetically and electrically different.

Increasing the efficiency of quantum walk with entangled qubits

We investigate how arbitrary number of entangled qubits affects properties of quantum walk. We consider variance, positions with non-zero probability density and entropy as criteria to determine the optimal number of entangled qubits in quantum walk. We show that for a single walker in one-dimensional position space, walk with three entangled qubits show better efficiency in considered criteria comparing to the walks with other number of entangled qubits. We also confirm that increment in number of the entangled qubits results into significant drop in variance of probability density distribution of the walker, change from ballistic to diffusive (suppression of quantum propagation), localization over specific step-dependent regions (characteristic of a dynamical Anderson localization) and reduction in entropy on level of reaching the classical walk's entropy or even smaller (attain deterministic behavior). In fact, we see that for large number of the entangled qubits, quantum walk loses most of its properties that are celebrated for but still show characterizations which are genuinely diffident comparing to classical walk.

Entropy spectrum of charged BTZ black holes in massive gravity's rainbow

Regarding the significant interests in massive gravity and combining it with gravity's rainbow and also BTZ black holes, we apply the formalism introduced by Jiang and Han in order to investigate the quantization of the entropy of black holes. We show that the entropy of BTZ black holes in massive gravity's rainbow is quantized with equally spaced spectra and it depends on the black holes' properties including massive parameters, electrical charge, the cosmological constant and also rainbow functions. In addition, we show that quantization of the entropy results into the appearance of novel properties for this quantity such as; the existence of divergencies, non-zero entropy in vanishing horizon radius and possibility of tracing out the effects of black holes' properties. Such properties are absent in the non-quantized version of these black holes' entropy. Furthermore, we investigate the effects of quantization on the thermodynamical behavior of the solutions. We confirm that due to quantization, novel phase transitions points are introduced and stable solutions are limited to only dS black holes (AdS and asymptotically flat solutions are unstable).

$AdS_{4}$ dyonic black holes in gravity's rainbow

In this paper, we investigate thermodynamical structure of dyonic black holes in the presence of gravity's rainbow. We confirm that for super magnetized and highly pressurized scenarios, the number of black holes' phases is reduced to a single phase. In addition, due to specific coupling of rainbow functions, it is possible to track the effects of temporal and spatial parts of our setup on thermodynamical quantities/behaviors including equilibrium point, existence of multiple phases, possible phase transitions and conditions for having a uniform stable structure.

Controlling quantum random walk with a step-dependent coin

We report on the possibility of controlling quantum random walks with a step-dependent coin. The coin is characterized by a (single) rotation angle. Considering different rotation angles, one can find diverse probability distributions for this walk including: complete localization, Gaussian and asymmetric likes. In addition, we explore the entropy of walk in two contexts; for probability density distributions over position space and walker's internal degrees of freedom space (coin space). We show that entropy of position space can decrease for a step-dependent coin with the step-number, quite in contrast to a walk with step-independent coin. For entropy of coin space, a damped oscillation is found for walk with step-independent coin while for a step-dependent coin case, the behavior of entropy depends on rotation angle. In general, we demonstrate that quantum walks with simple initiatives may exhibit a quite complex and varying behavior if step-dependent coins are applied. This provides the possibility of controlling quantum random walk with a step-dependent coin.

Black hole solutions in Gauss-Bonnet-massive gravity in the presence of power-Maxwell field

Motivated by recent progresses in the field of massive gravity, the paper at hand investigates the thermodynamical structure of black holes with three specific generalizations: i) Gauss-Bonnet gravity which is motivated from string theory ii) PMI nonlinear electromagnetic field which is motivated from perspective of the QED correction iii) massive gravity which is motivated by obtaining the modification of standard general relativity. The exact solutions of this setup are extracted which are interpreted as black holes. In addition, thermodynamical quantities of the solutions are calculated and their critical behavior are studied. It will be shown that although massive and Gauss-Bonnet gravities are both generalizations in gravitational sector, they show opposing effects regarding the critical behavior of the black holes. Furthermore, a periodic effect on number of the phase transition is reported for variation of the nonlinearity parameter and it will be shown that for super charged black holes, system is restricted in a manner that prevents it to reach the critical point and acquires phase transition. In addition, the effects of geometrical structure on thermodynamical phase transition will be highlighted.

Gauss-Bonnet Dyonic Black Holes: geometry, thermodynamics and test particles' trajectories

In this paper, we investigate a class of $5$-dimensional black holes in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet gravity with dyonic charges. At first step, thermodynamical quantities of the black holes and their behaviors are explored for different limits. Thermal stability and the possibility of the van der Waals like phase transition are addressed and the effects of different parameters on them are investigated. The second part is devoted to simulation of the trajectory of particles around these black holes and investigation of the angular frequency of particles' motion. The main goal is understanding the effects of higher curvature gravity (Gauss-Bonnet gravity) and magnetic charge on the structure of black holes and the geodesic paths of particles moving around these black holes.

Holographical aspects of dyonic black holes: Massive gravity generalization

The content of this paper includes studying holographical and thermodynamical aspects of dyonic black holes in the presence of massive gravity. For the first part of paper, thermodynamical properties of the bulk which includes black holes are studied and the main focus is on critical behavior. It will be shown that the existence of massive gravitons introduces remnant for temperature after evaporation of black holes, van der Waals phase transition for non-spherical black holes and etc. The consistency of different thermodynamical approaches toward critical behavior of the black holes is presented and the physical properties near the region of thermal instability are given. Next part of the paper studies holographical aspects of the boundary theory. Magnetization and susceptibility of the boundary are extracted and the conditions for having diamagnetic and paramagnetic behaviors are investigated. It will be shown that generalization to massive gravity results into the existence of diamagnetic/paramagnetic phases in phase structure of the hyperbolic and horizon flat of boundary conformal field theory.

Three dimensional magnetic solutions in massive gravity with (non)linear field

The Noble Prize in physics 2016 motivates one to study different aspects of topological properties and topological defects as their related objects. Considering the significant role of the topological defects (especially magnetic strings) in cosmology, here, we will investigate three dimensional horizonless magnetic solutions in the presence of two generalizations: massive gravity and nonlinear electromagnetic field. The effects of these two generalizations on properties of the solutions and their geometrical structure are investigated. The differences between de Sitter and anti de Sitter solutions are highlighted and conditions regarding the existence of phase transition in geometrical structure of the solutions are studied.

Higher dimensional dyonic black holes

The paper at hand presents a novel class of dyonic black holes in higher dimensions through a new proposal for the electromagnetic field tensor. The black hole solutions are extracted analytically and their geometrical/physical properties are studied. In addition, the details regarding thermodynamical structure and phase transition behavior of the solutions for $4$ different cases are investigated: i) general case, ii) constant electric field, iii) constant magnetic field, and iv) constant electric and magnetic fields. It will be shown that depending on the picture under consideration, the thermodynamical properties are modified. To have better picture regarding the phase transitions, the concept of the extended phase space is employed. It will be shown that in the absence of the electric field, magnetic black holes present van der Waals like phase transition. Furthermore, it will be highlighted that for super magnetized black holes, no phase transition exists.

Dilatonic black holes in gravity's rainbow with a nonlinear source: the effects of thermal fluctuations

This paper is devoted to investigate nonlinearly charged dilatonic black holes in the context of gravity's rainbow with two cases: I) by considering the usual entropy, II) in the presence of first order logarithmic correction of entropy. First, exact solutions of dilatonic Born-Infeld gravity with an energy dependent Liouville-type potential with black hole interpretation are obtained. Then, thermodynamic properties of the mentioned cases are studied, separately. It will be shown that although mass, entropy and heat capacity are modified due to the presence of first order correction, the temperature remains independent of it. Furthermore, it will be shown that divergencies of the heat capacity, hence phase transition points are also independent of first order correction whereas the stability conditions are highly sensitive to variation of the correction parameter. Except for the effects of first order correction, we will also draw a limit on values of the dilatonic parameter and show that it is possible to recognize AdS and dS thermodynamical behaviors for two specific branches of the dilatonic parameter. In addition, the effects of nonlinear electromagnetic field and energy functions on thermodynamical behavior of the solutions will be highlighted and dependency of critical behavior, on these generalizations will be investigated.

Neutron stars structure in the context of massive gravity

Motivated by the recent interests in spin$-2$ massive gravitons, we study the structure of neutron star in the context of massive gravity. The modifications of TOV equation in the presence of massive gravity are explored in $4$ and higher dimensions. Next, by considering the modern equation of state for the neutron star matter (which is extracted by the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) method with the AV$18$ potential), different physical properties of the neutron star (such as Le Chatelier's principle, stability and energy conditions) are investigated. It is shown that consideration of the massive gravity has specific contributions into the structure of neutron star and introduces new prescriptions for the massive astrophysical objects. The mass-radius relation is examined and the effects of massive gravity on the Schwarzschild radius, average density, compactness, gravitational redshift and dynamical stability are studied. Finally, a relation between mass and radius of neutron star versus the Planck mass is extracted.
