Black holes in massive gravity as heat engines

The paper at hand studies the heat engine provided by black holes in the presence of massive gravity. The main motivation is to investigate the effects of massive gravity on different properties of the heat engine. It will be shown that massive gravity parameters and graviton's mass modify the efficiency of engine on a significant level. Furthermore, it will be shown that it is possible to have the heat engine for non-spherical black holes in massive gravity and we study the effects of topological factor on properties of the heat engine. Surprisingly, it will be shown that the highest efficiency for the heat engine belongs to black holes with hyperbolic horizon, while the lowest one belongs to spherical black holes.

Geometrical thermodynamics and P-V criticality of the black holes with power-law Maxwell field

We study thermodynamical structure of Einstein black holes in the presence of power Maxwell invariant nonlinear electrodynamics for two different cases. The behavior of the temperature and conditions regarding the stability of these black holes are investigated. Since the language of geometry is an effective method in general relativity, we concentrate on the geometrical thermodynamics to build a phase space for studying phase transition. In addition, taking into account the denominator of the heat capacity, we use the proportionality between cosmological constant and thermodynamical pressure to extract the critical values for these black holes. Besides, the effects of the variation of different parameters on thermodynamical structure of these black holes are investigated. In addition, some thermodynamical properties such as volume expansion coefficient, speed of sound and isothermal compressibility coefficient are calculated and some remarks regarding these quantities are given.

Charged BTZ black holes in the context of massive gravity's rainbow

BTZ black holes are excellent laboratories for studying black hole thermodynamics which is a bridge between classical general relativity and quantum nature of gravitation. In addition, three-dimensional gravity could have equipped us for exploring some of the ideas behind the two dimensional conformal field theory based on the $AdS_{3}/CFT_{2}$. Considering the significant interests in these regards, we examine charged BTZ black holes. We consider the system contains massive gravity with energy dependent spacetime to enrich the results. In order to make high curvature (energy) BTZ black holes more realistic, we modify the theory by energy dependent constants. We investigate thermodynamic properties of the solutions by calculating heat capacity and free energy. We also analyze thermal stability and study the possibility of Hawking-Page phase transition. At last, we study geometrical thermodynamics of these black holes and compare the results of various approaches.

Topological charged black holes in massive gravity's rainbow and their thermodynamical analysis through various approaches

Violation of Lorentz invariancy in the high energy quantum gravity motivates one to consider an energy dependent spacetime with massive deformation of standard general relativity. In this paper, we take into account an energy dependent metric in the context of a massive gravity model to obtain exact solutions. We investigate the geometry of black hole solutions and also calculate the conserved and thermodynamic quantities, which are fully reproduced by the analysis performed with the standard techniques. After examining the validity of the first law of thermodynamics, we conduct a study regarding the effects of different parameters on thermal stability of the solutions. In addition, we employ the relation between cosmological constant and thermodynamical pressure to study the possibility of phase transition. Interestingly, we will show that for the specific configuration considered in this paper, van der Waals like behavior is observed for different topology. In other words, for flat and hyperbolic horizons, similar to spherical horizon, a second order phase transition and van der Waals like behavior are observed. Furthermore, we use geometrical method to construct phase space and study phase transition and bound points for these black holes. Finally, we obtain critical values in extended phase space through the use of a new method.

Dilatonic BTZ black holes with power-law field

Motivated by low energy effective action of string theory and large applications of BTZ black holes, we will consider minimal coupling between dilaton and nonlinear electromagnetic fields in three dimensions. The main goal is studying thermodynamical structure of black holes in this set up. Temperature and heat capacity of these black holes are investigated and a picture regarding their phase transitions is given. In addition, the role and importance of studying the mass of black holes is highlighted. We will see how different parameters modify thermodynamical quantities, hence thermodynamical structure of these black holes. In addition, geometrical thermodynamics is used to investigate thermodynamical properties of these black holes. In this regard, the successful method is presented and the nature of interaction around bound and phase transition points is studied.

van der Waals like behaviour of topological AdS black holes in massive gravity

Motivated by recent developments in black hole thermodynamics, we investigate van der Waals phase transitions of charged black holes in massive gravity. We find that massive gravity theories can exhibit strikingly different thermodynamic behaviour compared to that of Einstein gravity, and that the mass of the graviton can generate a range of new phase transitions for topological black holes that are otherwise forbidden.

Phase transition of charged black holes in massive gravity through new methods

Motivated by providing preliminary steps to understand the conception of quantum gravity, in this paper, we study the phase structure of a semiclassical gravitational system. We investigate the stability conditions and phase transition of charged black holes in massive gravity via canonical and geometrical thermodynamic approaches. We point out the effects of massive parameter on stability conditions of these black holes and show how massive coefficients affect the phase transition points of these black holes. We also study the effects of boundary topology on thermodynamical behavior of the system. In addition, we give some arguments regarding the role of higher dimensions and highlight the effect of the electric charge in thermodynamical behavior. Then, we extend our study to geometrical thermodynamic approach and show that it can be a successful method for studying the black hole phase transition. At last, by employing the relation between thermodynamical pressure and cosmological constant, critical behavior of the system and the effects of different parameters on critical values are investigated.

Thermodynamical Structure of AdS Black Holes in Massive Gravity with Stringy Gauge-Gravity Corrections

Motivated by gauge/gravity group in the low energy effective theory of the heterotic string theory and novel aspects of massive gravity in the context of lattice physics, the minimal coupling of Gauss-Bonnet-massive gravity with Born-Infeld electrodynamics is considered. At first, the metric function is calculated and then the geometrical properties of the solutions are investigated. It is found that there is an essential singularity at the origin and the intrinsic curvature is regular elsewhere. In addition, the effects of massive parameters are studied and black hole solutions with multi horizons are found in this gravity. Also the conserved and thermodynamic quantities are calculated, and it is shown that the solutions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Furthermore, using heat capacity of these black holes, thermal stability and phase transitions are investigated. The variation of different parameters and related modifications on the (number of) phase transition are examined. Next, the critical behavior of the Gauss-Bonnet-Born-Infeld-massive black holes in the context of extended phase space is studied. It is shown that how the variation of the different parameters affects the existence and absence of phase transition. Also, it is found that for specific values of different parameters, these black holes may enjoy the existence of new type of phase transition which to our knowledge was not observed in black hole physics before.

Modified TOV in gravity's rainbow: properties of neutron stars and dynamical stability conditions

In this paper, we consider a spherical symmetric metric to extract the hydrostatic equilibrium equation of stars in $(3+1)-$dimensional gravity's rainbow in the presence of cosmological constant. Then, we generalize the hydrostatic equilibrium equation to $d$-dimensions and obtain the hydrostatic equilibrium equation for this gravity. Also, we obtain the maximum mass of neutron star using the modern equations of state of neutron star matter derived from the microscopic calculations. It is notable that, in this paper, we consider the effects of rainbow functions on the diagrams related to the mass-central mass density ($M$-$ρ_{c}$) relation and also the mass-radius ($M$-$R$) relation of neutron star. We also study the effects of rainbow functions on the other properties of neutron star such as the Schwarzschild radius, average density, strength of gravity and gravitational redshift. Then, we apply the cosmological constant to this theory to obtain the diagrams of $M$-$ρ_{c}$ (or $M$-$R$) and other properties of these stars. Next, we investigate the dynamical stability condition for these stars in gravity's rainbow and show that these stars have dynamical stability. We also obtain a relation between mass of neutron stars and Planck mass. In addition, we compare obtained results of this theory with the observational data.

F(R) gravity's rainbow and its Einstein counterpart

Motivated by UV completion of general relativity with a modification of a geometry at high energy scale, it is expected to have an energy dependent geometry. In this paper, we introduce charged black hole solutions with power Maxwell invariant source in the context of gravity's rainbow. In addition, we investigate two classes of $F(R)$ gravity's rainbow solutions. At first, we study energy dependent $F(R)$ gravity without energy momentum tensor, and then we obtain $F(R)$ gravity's rainbow in the presence of conformally invariant Maxwell source. We study geometrical properties of the mentioned solutions and compare their results. We also give some related comments regarding to thermodynamical behavior of the obtained solutions and discuss thermal stability of the solutions.

Phase transition of charged Black Holes in Brans-Dicke theory through geometrical thermodynamics

In this paper, we take into account black hole solutions of Brans-Dicke-Maxwell theory and investigate their stability and phase transition points. We apply the concept of geometry in thermodynamics to obtain phase transition points and compare its results with those, calculated in canonical ensemble through heat capacity. We show that these black holes enjoy second order phase transitions. We also show that there is a lower bound for the horizon radius of physical charged black holes in Brans-Dicke theory which is originated from restrictions of positivity of temperature. In addition, we find that employing specific thermodynamical metric in the context of geometrical thermodynamics, yields divergencies for thermodynamical Ricci scalar in places of the phase transitions. It will be pointed out that due to characteristics behavior of thermodynamical Ricci scalar around its divergence points, one is able to distinguish the physical limitation point from the phase transitions. In addition, the free energy of these black holes will be obtained and its behavior will be investigated. It will be shown that the behavior of the free energy in the place where the heat capacity diverges, demonstrates second order phase transition characteristics.

Charged Dilatonic Black Holes in Gravity's Rainbow

In this paper, we present charged dilatonic black holes in gravity's rainbow. We study geometric and thermodynamic properties of black hole solutions. We also investigate the effects of rainbow functions on different thermodynamic quantities for these charged black holes in dilatonic gravity's rainbow. Then, we demonstrate that first law of thermodynamics is valid for these solutions. After that, we investigate thermal stability of the solutions using canonical ensemble and analyze the effects of different rainbow functions on thermal stability. In addition, we present some arguments regarding the bound and phase transition points in context of geometrical thermodynamics. We also study the phase transition in extended phase space in which cosmological constant is treated as the thermodynamic pressure. Finally, we use another approach to calculate and demonstrate that obtained critical points in extended phase space are representing a second order phase transition for these black holes.

Massive charged BTZ black holes in asymptotically (a)dS spacetimes

Motivated by recent developments of BTZ black holes and interesting results of massive gravity, we investigate massive BTZ black holes in the presence of Maxwell and Born-Infeld (BI) electrodynamics. We study geometrical properties such as type of singularity and asymptotical behavior as well as thermodynamic structure of the solutions through canonical ensemble. We show that despite the existence of massive term, obtained solutions are asymptotically (a)dS and have a curvature singularity at the origin. Then, we regard varying cosmological constant and examine the Van der Waals like behavior of the solutions in extended phase space. In addition, we employ geometrical thermodynamic approaches and show that using Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics leads to existence of ensemble dependency while HPEM metric yields consistent picture. For neutral solutions, it will be shown that generalization to massive gravity leads to the presence of non-zero temperature and heat capacity for vanishing horizon radius. Such behavior is not observed for linearly charged solutions while generalization to nonlinearly one recovers this property.

Extended phase space of AdS Black Holes in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a quadratic nonlinear electrodynamics

In this paper, we consider quadratic Maxwell invariant as a correction to the Maxwell theory and study thermodynamic behavior of the black holes in Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravities. We consider cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure to extend phase space. Next, we obtain critical values in case of variation of nonlinearity and Gauss-Bonnet parameters. Although the general thermodynamical behavior of the black hole solutions is the same as usual Van der Waals system, we show that in special case of the nonlinear electromagnetic field, there will be a turning point for the phase diagrams and usual Van der Waals is not observed. This theory of nonlinear electromagnetic field provides two critical horizon radii. We show that this unusual behavior of phase diagrams is due to existence of second critical horizon radius. It will be pointed out that the power of the gravity and nonlinearity of the matter field modify the critical values. We generalize the study by considering the effects of dimensionality on critical values and make comparisons between our models with their special sub classes. In addition, we examine the possibility of the existence of the reentrant phase transitions through two different methods.

Thermodynamic instability of nonlinearly charged black holes in gravity's rainbow

Motivated by the violation of Lorentz invariancy in quantum gravity, we study black hole solutions in gravity's rainbow in context of Einstein gravity coupled with various models of nonlinear electrodynamics. We regard an energy dependent spacetime and obtain related metric functions and electric fields. We show that there is an essential singularity at the origin which is covered with an event horizon. We also compute the conserved and thermodynamical quantities and examine the validity of the first law of thermodynamics in the presence of rainbow functions. Finally, we investigate thermal stability conditions for these black hole solutions in context of canonical ensemble. We show that thermodynamical structure of the solutions depends on the choices of nonlinearity parameters, charge and energy functions.

Charged Black Hole Solutions in Gauss-Bonnet-Massive Gravity

Motivated by high interest in the close relation between string theory and black hole solutions, in this paper, we take into account the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Lagrangian in the context of massive gravity. We examine the possibility of black hole in this regard, and discuss the types of horizons. Next, we calculate conserved and thermodynamic quantities and check the validity of the first law of thermodynamics. In addition, we investigate the stability of these black holes in context of canonical ensemble. We show that number, type and place of phase transition points may be significantly affected by different parameters. Next, by considering cosmological constant as thermodynamical pressure, we will extend phase space and calculate critical values. Then, we construct thermodynamical spacetime by considering mass as thermodynamical potential. We study geometrical thermodynamics of these black holes in context of heat capacity and extended phase space. We show that studying heat capacity, geometrical thermodynamics and critical behavior in extended phase space lead to consistent results. Finally, we will employ a new method for obtaining critical values and show that the results of this method are consistent with those of other methods.

Extended phase space of Black Holes in Lovelock gravity with nonlinear electrodynamics

In this paper, we consider Lovelock gravity in presence of two Born-Infeld types of nonlinear electrodynamics and study their thermodynamical behavior. We extend the phase space by considering cosmological constant as a thermodynamical pressure. We obtain critical values of pressure, volume and temperature and investigate the effects of both the Lovelock gravity and the nonlinear electrodynamics on these values. We plot $P-v$, $T-v$ and $G-T$ diagrams to study the phase transition of these thermodynamical systems. We show that power of the nonlinearity and gravity have opposite effects. We also show how considering cosmological constant, nonlinearity and Lovelock parameters as thermodynamical variables will modify Smarr formula and first law of thermodynamics. In addition, we study the behavior of universal ratio of $\frac{P_{c}v_{c}}{T_{c}}$ for different values of nonlinearity power of electrodynamics as well as the Lovelock coefficients.

A new approach toward geometrical concept of black hole thermodynamics

Motivated by the energy representation of Riemannian metric, in this paper we study different approaches toward the geometrical concept of black hole thermodynamics. We investigate thermodynamical Ricci scalar of Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics and show that their number and location of divergences do not coincide with phase transition points arisen from heat capacity. Next, we introduce a new metric to solve these problems. We show that the denominator of the Ricci scalar of the new metric contains terms which coincide with different types of phase transitions. We elaborate the effectiveness of the new metric and shortcomings of the previous metrics with some examples. Furthermore, we find a characteristic behavior of the new thermodynamical Ricci scalar which enables one to distinguish two types of phase transitions. In addition, we generalize the new metric for the cases of more than two extensive parameters and show that in these cases the divergencies of thermodynamical Ricci scalar coincide with phase transition points of the heat capacity.
