Trapping Fermionic $^{40}$K and Bosonic $^{87}$Rb on a Chip

We demonstrate the loading of a Bose-Fermi mixture into a microfabricated magnetic trap. In a single-chamber vacuum system, laser-cooled atoms are transported to the surface of a substrate on which gold wires have been microfabricated. The magnetic field minimum formed near these current-carrying wires is used to confine up to $6\times10^4$ neutral $^{40}$K atoms. In addition, we can simultaneously load $2 \times 10^5$ $^{87}$Rb atoms, demonstrating the confinement of two distinct elements with such a trap. In a sequence optimized for $^{87}$Rb alone, we observe up to $1 \times 10^7$ trapped atoms. We describe in detail the experimental apparatus, and discuss prospects for evaporative cooling towards quantum degeneracy in both species.

Effect of Muons on the Phase Transition in Magnetised Proto-Neutron Star Matter

We study the effect of inclusion of muons and the muon neutrinos on the phase transition from nuclear to quark matter in a magnetised proto-neutron star and compare our results with those obtained by us without the muons. We find that the inclusion of muons changes slightly the nuclear density at which transition occurs. However the dependence of this transition density on various chemical potentials, temperature and the magnetic field remains quantitatively the same.

Study of Proto Strange Stars (PSS) in Temperature and Density Dependent Quark Mass Model

We report on the study of the mass-radius (M-R) relation and the radial oscillations of proto strange stars. For the quark matter we have employed the well known density dependent quark mass model and its very recent modification, the temperature and density dependent quark mass model. We find that the maximum mass the star can support increases significantly with the temperature of the star in this model which implies that transition to a black hole at the early stage of formation of the star is inhibited. As for the neutrinos, we find, contrary to the expectation that the M-R and oscillation frequencies are almost independent of the neutrino chemical potentials.

Radial Oscillations of Neutron Stars in Strong Magnetic Fields

The eigen frequencies of radial pulsations of neutron stars are calculated in a strong magnetic field. At low densities we use the magnetic BPS equation of state(EOS) similar to that obtained by Lai and Shapiro while at high densities the EOS obtained from the relativistic nuclear mean field theory is taken and extended to include strong magnetic field. It is found that magnetised neutron stars support higher maximum mass where as the effect of magnetic field on radial stability for observed neutron star masses is minimal.

Radial Oscillations of Rotating Strange Stars in Strong Magnetic Fields

In this paper we study radial oscillations of rotating strange stars in strong magnetic fields in the Density Dependent Quark Mass (DDQM) model. We see that increase of frequency i.e. difference in frequency of rotating and non-rotating stars is more for higher magnetic fields. The change is small for low mass stars but it increases with the mass of the star. This change of frequency is significant for maximum mass whereas it is marginal for a 1.4 solar mass star.

Effect of Magnetic Field on the Phase Transition from Nuclear Matter to Quark Matter during Proto-Neutron Star Evolution

We have studied phase transition from hadron matter to quark matter in the presence of high magnetic fields incorporating the trapped electron neutrinos at finite temperatures. We have used the density dependent quark mass (DDQM) model for the quark phase while the hadron phase is treated in the frame-work of relativistic mean field theory. It is seen that the nuclear energy at phase transition decreases with both magnetic field and temperature. A brief discussion of the effect of magnetic field in supernova explosions and proto-neutron star evolution is given.

Fission and cluster decay of $^{76}$Sr nucleus in the ground-state and formed in heavy-ion reactions

Calculations for fission and cluster decay of $^{76}Sr$ are presented for this nucleus to be in its ground-state or formed as an excited compound system in heavy-ion reactions. The predicted mass distribution, for the dynamical collective mass transfer process assumed for fission of $^{76}Sr$, is clearly asymmetric, favouring $α$-nuclei. Cluster decay is studied within a preformed cluster model, both for ground-state to ground-state decays and from excited compound system to the ground-state(s) or excited states(s) of the fragments.
