Mitigating Procrastination in Spatial Crowdsourcing Via Efficient Scheduling Algorithm

Several works related to spatial crowdsourcing have been proposed in the direction where the task executers are to perform the tasks within the stipulated deadlines. Though the deadlines are set, it may be a practical scenario that majority of the task executers submit the tasks as late as possible. This situation where the task executers may delay their task submission is termed as procrastination in behavioural economics. In many applications, these late submission of tasks may be problematic for task providers. So here, the participating agents (both task providers and task executers) are articulated with the procrastination issue. In literature, how to prevent this procrastination within the deadline is not addressed in spatial crowdsourcing scenario. However, in a bipartite graph setting one procrastination aware scheduling is proposed but balanced job (task and job will synonymously be used) distribution in different slots (also termed as schedules) is not considered there. In this paper, a procrastination aware scheduling of jobs is proliferated by proposing an (randomized) algorithm in spatial crowdsourcing scenario. Our algorithm ensures that balancing of jobs in different schedules are maintained. Our scheme is compared with the existing algorithm through extensive simulation and in terms of balancing effect, our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing one. Analytically it is shown that our proposed algorithm maintains the balanced distribution.

Hire the Experts: Combinatorial Auction Based Scheme for Experts Selection in E-Healthcare

During the last decade, scheduling the healthcare services (such as staffs and OTs) inside the hospitals have assumed a central role in healthcare. Recently, some works are addressed in the direction of hiring the expert consultants (mainly doctors) for the critical healthcare scenarios from outside of the medical unit, in both strategic and non-strategic settings under monetary and non-monetary perspectives. In this paper, we have tried to investigate the experts hiring problem with multiple patients and multiple experts; where each patient reports a preferred set of experts which is private information alongwith their private cost for consultancy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first step in the direction of modeling the experts hiring problem in the combinatorial domain. In this paper, the combinatorial auction based scheme is proposed for hiring experts from outside of the hospitals to have expertise by the preferred doctors set to the patients.

Indian Kidney Exchange Program: A Game Theoretic Perspective

We propose a way in which Kidney exchange can be feasibly, economically and efficiently implemented in Indian medical space, named as Indian Kidney Exchange Program(IKEP) along with Indian specific influence on compatibility and final outcomes. Kidney exchange is a boon for those suffering from renal kidney failure and do have a donor with an incompatible kidney (compatible kidney also encouraged for better matches). In such situations the patient, donor pair is matched to another patient, donor pair having the same problem and are compatible to each other. Hospitals put up their patient-donor data. Using the biological data, compatibility scores(or weights) are generated and preferences are formed accordingly. Indian influence on weights, modify the compatibility scores generated and hence, the preferences. The pairs are then allocated using game theoretic matching algorithms for markets without money.

A Game Theoretic Framework for Surplus Food Distribution in Smart Cities and Beyond

Food waste is a major challenge for the present world. It is the precursor to several socioeconomic problems that are plaguing the modern society. To counter the same and to, simultaneously, stand by the undernourished, surplus food redistribution has surfaced as a viable solution. Information and Communications Technology (ICT)-mediated food redistribution is a highly scalable approach and it percolates into the masses far better. Even if ICT is not brought into the picture, the presence of food surplus redistribution in developing countries like India is scarce and is limited to only a few of the major cities. The discussion of a surplus food redistribution framework under strategic settings is a less discussed topic around the globe. This paper aims at addressing a surplus food redistribution framework under strategic settings, thereby facilitating a smoother exchange of surplus food in the smart cities of developing countries, and beyond. As ICT is seamlessly available in smart cities, the paper aims to focus the framework in these cities. However, this can be extended beyond the smart cities to places with greater human involvement.

A Budget Feasible Peer Graded Mechanism For IoT-Based Crowdsourcing

We develop and extend a line of recent works on the design of mechanisms for heterogeneous tasks assignment problem in 'crowdsourcing'. The budgeted market we consider consists of multiple task requesters and multiple IoT devices as task executers; where each task requester is endowed with a single distinct task along with the publicly known budget. Also, each IoT device has valuations as the cost for executing the tasks and quality, which are private. Given such scenario, the objective is to select a subset of IoT devices for each task, such that the total payment made is within the allotted quota of the budget while attaining a threshold quality. For the purpose of determining the unknown quality of the IoT devices, we have utilized the concept of peer grading. In this paper, we have carefully crafted a truthful budget feasible mechanism; namely TUBE-TAP for the problem under investigation that also allows us to have the true information about the quality of the IoT devices. The simulations are performed in order to measure the efficacy of our proposed mechanism.

A Budget Feasible Mechanism for Hiring Doctors in E-Healthcare

Throughout the past decade, there has been an extensive research on scheduling the hospital resources such as the operation theatre(s) (OTs) and the experts (such as nurses, doctors etc.) inside the hospitals. With the technological growth, mainly advancement in communication media (such as smart phones, video conferencing, smart watches etc.) one may think of taking the expertise by the doctors (distributed around the globe) from outside the in-house hospitals. Earlier this interesting situation of hiring doctors from outside the hospitals has been studied from monetary (with patient having infinite budget) and non-monetary perspectives in strategic setting. In this paper, the more realistic situation is studied in terms of hiring the doctors from outside the hospital when a patient is constrained by budget. Our proposed mechanisms follow the two pass mechanism design framework each consisting of allocation rule and payment rule. Through simulations, we evaluate the performance and validate our proposed mechanisms.

Hiring Doctors in E-Healthcare With Zero Budget

The doctors (or expert consultants) are the critical resources on which the success of critical medical cases are heavily dependent. With the emerging technologies (such as video conferencing, smartphone, etc.) this is no longer a dream but a fact, that for critical medical cases in a hospital, expert consultants from around the world could be hired, who may be present physically or virtually. Earlier, this interesting situation by taking the expert consultancies from outside the hospital had been studied, but under monetary perspective. In this paper, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we investigate the situation, where the below income group (BIG) people of the society may be served efficiently through the expert consultancy by the renowned doctors from outside of the hospital under zero budget. This will help us saving many lives which will fulfil the present day need of biomedical research. We propose three mechanisms: Random pick-assign mechanism (RanPAM), Truthful optimal allocation mechanism (TOAM), and Truthful optimal allocation mechanism for incomplete preferences (TOAM-IComP) to allocate the doctor to the patient. With theoretical analysis, we demonstrate that the TOAM is strategy-proof, and exhibits a unique core property. The mechanisms are also validated with exhaustive experiments.

Hiring Expert Consultants in E-Healthcare: A Two Sided Matching Approach

Very often in some censorious healthcare scenario, there may be a need to have some expert consultancies (especially by doctors) that are not available in-house to the hospital. With the advancement in technologies (such as video conferencing, smartphone, etc.), it has become reality that, for the critical medical cases in the hospitals, expert consultants (ECs) from around the world could be hired, who will serve the patients by their physical or virtual presence. Earlier, this interesting healthcare scenario of hiring the ECs (mainly doctors) from outside of the hospitals had been studied with the robust concepts of mechanism design with or without money. We have tried to model the ECs (mainly doctors) hiring problem as a two-sided matching problem. In this paper, for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, we explore the more realistic two-sided matching in our set-up, where the members of the two participating communities, namely patients and doctors are revealing the strict preference ordering over all the members of the opposite community for a stipulated amount of time. We assume that patients and doctors are strategic in nature. With the theoretical analysis, we demonstrate that the proposed mechanism that results in a stable allocation of doctors to patients is strategy-proof (or truthful) and optimal. The proposed mechanism is also validated with exhaustive experiments.

Online Participatory Sensing in Double Auction Environment with Location Information

As mobile devices have been ubiquitous, participatory sensing emerges as a powerful tool to solve many contemporary real life problems. Here, we contemplate the participatory sensing in online double auction environment by considering the location information of the participating agents. In this paper, we propose a truthful mechanism in this setting and the mechanism also satisfies the other economic properties such as budget balance and individual rationality.

Quality adaptive online double auction in participatory sensing

Agents (specially humans) with smart devices are stemming with astounding rapidity and that may play a big role in information and communication technology apart from being used only as a mere calling devices. Inculcating the power of smart devices carried by the agents in several different applications is commonly termed as participatory sensing (PS). In this paper, for the first time a truthful quality adaptive participatory sensing is presented in an online double auction environment. The proposed algorithm is simulated with a benchmark mechanism that adapts the existing McAfee's Double Auction (MDA) directly in the online environment.
