Kaestner Brackets

We introduce \textit{Kaestner brackets}, a generalization of biquandle brackets to the case of parity biquandles. This infinite set of quantum enhancements of the biquandle counting invariant for oriented virtual knots and links includes the classical quantum invariants, the quandle and biquandle $2$-cocycle invariants and the classical biquandle brackets as special cases, coinciding with them for oriented classical knots and links but defining generally stronger invariants for oriented virtual knots and links. We provide examples to illustrate the computation of the new invariant and to show that it is stronger than the classical biquandle bracket invariant for virtual knots.

Biquandle Brackets and Knotoids

Biquandle brackets are a type of quantum enhancement of the biquandle counting invariant for oriented knots and links, defined by a set of skein relations with coefficients which are functions of biquandle colors at a crossing. In this paper we use biquandle brackets to enhance the biquandle counting matrix invariant defined by the first two authors in arXiv:1803.11308. We provide examples to illustrate the method of calcuation and to show that the new invariants are stronger than the previous ones.

Biquandle Virtual Brackets

We introduce an infinite family of quantum enhancements of the biquandle counting invariant we call biquandle virtual brackets. Defined in terms of skein invariants of biquandle colored oriented knot and link diagrams with values in a commutative ring $R$ using virtual crossings as smoothings, these invariants take the form of multisets of elements of $R$ and can be written in a "polynomial" form for convenience. The family of invariants defined herein includes as special cases all quandle and biquandle 2-cocycle invariants, all classical skein invariants (Alexander-Conway, Jones, HOMFLYPT and Kauffman polynomials) and all biquandle bracket invariants defined in previous work as well as new invariants defined using virtual crossings in a fundamental way, without an obvious purely classical definition.

Biquandle Module Invariants of Oriented Surface-Links

We define invariants of oriented surface-links by enhancing the biquandle counting invariant using \textit{biquandle modules}, algebraic structures defined in terms of biquandle actions on commutative rings analogous to Alexander biquandles. We show that bead colorings of marked graph diagrams are preserved by Yoshikawa moves and hence define enhancements of the biquandle counting invariant for surface links. We provide examples illustrating the computation of the invariant and demonstrate that these invariants are not determined by the first and second Alexander elementary ideals and characteristic polynomials.

Tribracket Modules

Niebrzydowski tribrackets are ternary operations on sets satisfying conditions obtained from the oriented Reidemeister moves such that the set of tribracket colorings of an oriented knot or link diagram is an invariant of oriented knots and links. We introduce tribracket modules analogous to quandle/biquandle/rack modules and use these structures to enhance the tribracket counting invariant. We provide examples to illustrate the computation of the invariant and show that the enhancement is proper.

Multi-tribrackets

We introduce multi-tribrackets, algebraic structures for region coloring of diagrams of knots and links with different operations at different kinds of crossings. In particular we consider the case of component multi-tribrackets which have different tribracket operations at single-component crossings and multi-component crossings. We provide examples to show that the resulting counting invariants can distinguish links which are not distinguished by the counting invariants associated to the standard tribracket coloring. We reinterpret the results of [11] in terms of multi-tribrackets and consider futuredirections for multi-tribracket theory.

Quandle Cocycle Quivers

We incorporate quandle cocycle information into the quandle coloring quivers we defined in arXiv:1807.10465 to define weighted directed graph-valued invariants of oriented links we call \textit{quandle cocycle quivers}. This construction turns the quandle cocycle invariant into a small category, yielding a categorification of the quandle cocycleinvariant. From these graphs we define several new link invariants including a 2-variable polynomial which specializes to the usual quandle cocycle invariant. Examples and computations are provided.

Biquandle Coloring Invariants of Knotoids

In this paper, we consider biquandle colorings for knotoids in $\mathbb{R}^2$ or $S^2$ and we construct several coloring invariants for knotoids derived as enhancements of the biquandle counting invariant. We first enhance the biquandle counting invariant by using a matrix constructed by utilizing the orientation a knotoid diagram is endowed with. We generalize Niebrzydowski's biquandle longitude invariant for virtual long knots to obtain new invariants for knotoids. We show that biquandle invariants can detect mirror images of knotoids and show that our enhancements are proper in the sense that knotoids which are not distinguished by the counting invariant are distinguished by our enhancements.

Local biquandles and Niebrzydowski's tribracket theory

We introduce a new algebraic structure called \textit{local biquandles} and show how colorings of oriented classical link diagrams and of broken surface diagrams are related to tribracket colorings. We define a (co)homology theory for local biquandles and show that it is isomorphic to Niebrzydowski's tribracket (co)homology. This implies that Niebrzydowski's (co)homology theory can be interpreted similary as biqandle (co)homology theory. Moreover through the isomorphism between two cohomology groups, we show that Niebrzydowski's cocycle invariants and local biquandle cocycle invariants are the same.

Virtual Tribrackets

We introduce virtual tribrackets, an algebraic structure for coloring regions in the planar complement of an oriented virtual knot or link diagram. We use these structures to define counting invariants of virtual knots and links and provide examples of the computation of the invariant; in particular we show that the invariant can distinguish certain virtual knots.

Quandle Coloring Quivers

We consider a quiver structure on the set of quandle colorings of an oriented knot or link diagram. This structure contains a wealth of knot and link invariants and provides a categorification of the quandle counting invariant in the most literal sense, i.e., giving the set of quandle colorings the structure of a small category which is unchanged by Reidemeister moves. We derive some new enhancements of the counting invariant from this quiver structure and show that the enhancements are proper with explicit examples.

Boltzmann Enhancements of Biquasile Counting Invariants

In this paper, we build on the biquasiles and dual graph diagrams introduced in arXiv:1610.06969. We introduce \textit{biquasile Boltzmann weights} that enhance the previous knot coloring invariant defined in terms of finite biquasiles and provide examples differentiating links with the same counting invariant, demonstrating that the enhancement is proper. We identify conditions for a linear function $ϕ:\mathbb{Z}_n[X^3]\to\mathbb{Z}_n$ to be a Boltzmann weight for an Alexander biquasile $X$.

Singular Knots and Involutive Quandles

The aim of this paper is to define certain algebraic structures coming from generalized Reidemeister moves of singular knot theory. We give examples, show that the set of colorings by these algebraic structures is an invariant of singular links. As an application we distinguish several singular knots and links.

Quasi-trivial Quandles and Biquandles, Cocycle Enhancements and Link-Homotopy of Pretzel links

We investigate some algebraic structures called quasi-trivial quandles and we use them to study link-homotopy of pretzel links. Precisely, a necessary and sufficient condition for a pretzel link with at least two components being trivial under link-homotopy is given. We also generalize the quasi-trivial quandle idea to the case of biquandles and consider enhancement of the quasi-trivial biquandle cocycle counting invariant by quasi-trivial biquandle cocycles, obtaining invariants of link-homotopy type of links analogous to the quasi-trivial quandle cocycle invariants in Ayumu Inoue's article arXiv:1205.5891.

Niebrzydowski Algebras and Trivalent Spatial Graphs

We introduce \textit{Niebrzydowski algebras}, algebraic structures with a ternary operation and a partially defined multiplication, with axioms motivated by the Reidemeister moves for $Y$-oriented trivalent spatial graphs and handlebody-links. As part of this definition, we identify generating sets of $Y$-oriented Reidemeister moves. We give some examples to demonstrate that the counting invariant can distinguish some $Y$-oriented trivalent spatial graphs and handlebody-links.

Biquasile Colorings of Oriented Surface-Links

We introduce colorings of oriented surface-links by biquasiles using marked graph diagrams. We use these colorings to define counting invariants and Boltzmann enhancements of the biquasile counting invariants for oriented surface-links. We provide examples to show that the invariants can distinguish both closed surface-links and cobordisms and are sensitive to orientation.

Twisted Virtual Bikeigebras and Twisted Virtual Handlebody-Knots

We generalize unoriented handlebody-links to the twisted virtual case, obtaining Reidemeister moves for handlebody-links in ambient spaces of the form $Σ\times [0,1]$ for $Σ$ a compact closed 2-manifold up to stable equivalence. We introduce a related algebraic structure known as twisted virtual bikeigebras whose axioms are motivated by the twisted virtual handlebody-link Reidemeister moves. We use twisted virtual bikeigebras to define $X$-colorability for twisted virtual handlebody-links and define an integer-valued invariant $Φ_{X}^{\mathbb{Z}}$ of twisted virtual handlebody-links. We provide example computations of the new invariants and use them to distinguish some twisted virtual handlebody-links.

Trace Diagrams and Biquandle Brackets

We introduce a method of computing biquandle brackets of oriented knots and links using a type of decorated trivalent spatial graphs we call trace diagrams. We identify algebraic conditions on the biquandle bracket coefficients for moving strands over and under traces and identify a new stop condition for the recursive expansion. In the case of monochromatic crossings we show that biquandle brackets satisfy a Homflypt-style skein relation and we identify algebraic conditions on the biquandle bracket coefficients to allow pass-through trace moves.
