Causality of black holes in 4-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory

We study charged black hole solutions in 4-dimensional (4D) Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory to the linearized perturbation level. We first compute the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio. We then demonstrate how bulk causal structure analysis imposes a upper bound on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant in the AdS space. Causality constrains the value of Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $α_{GB}$ to be bounded by $α_{GB}\leq 0$ as $D\rightarrow 4$.

Bridging the Chiral symmetry and Confinement with Singularity

We consider a holographic quark model where the confinement is a consequence of the quark condensate. Surprisingly, the equation of motion of our holographic model can be mapped to the old spin-less bag model. Both models correctly reproduce the linear Regge trajectory of hadrons for zero quark mass. For the case of non-zero quark mass, the model lead us to Heun's equation. The mass term is precisely the origin of the higher singularity, which changes the system behavior drastically. Our result can shed some light on why the chiral transition is so close to the confinement transition. In the massive case, the Schroedinger equation is exactly solvable, but only if a surprising new quantization condition, additional to the energy quantization, is applied.

Chiral symmetry and Heun's equation

We show that the current quark mass should vanish to be consistent with the QCD color confinement: a bag model leads us to Heun's equation, which requests that not only the energy but also the string tension should be quantized. This is due to the presence of higher order singularity which requests higher regularity condition demanding that parameters of the theory should be related to one another. As a result, the Hadron spectrum is consistent with the Regge trajectory only when quark mass vanishes. Therefore, in this model, the chiral symmetry is a consequence of the confinement.

New black holes with hyperscaling violation and transports of quantum critical points with magnetic impurity

We consider the magneto-transports of quantum matters doped with magnetic impurities near the quantum critical points(QCP). For this, we first find new black hole solution with hyper-scaling violation which is dual to such system. By considering the fluctuation near this exact solution, we calculated all transport coefficients using the holographic method. We applied our result to the surface state of the topological insulator with magnetic doping and found two QCP's, one bosonic and the other fermionic. It turns out that doped Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and Bi$_2$Te$_3$ correspond to different QCP's. We also investigated transports of QCP's as functions of physical parameters and found that there are phase transitions as well as crossovers from weak localization to weak anti-localization.

Stability of Topological character of Weyl Semi-metal, and Topological Dipole in Holography

We discuss the stability of the topological invariant of the strongly interacting Weyl semi-metal at finite temperature. We find that if the interactions and temperature of the system are controlled by the holography, the topology is stable even in the case the Fermi surface become fuzzy. We give an argument to show that although the self energy changes the spectral function significantly to make the Fermi surface fuzzy, it cannot change the singularity structure of the Berry phase, which leads to the stability of the topology. We also find that depending on the mass term structure of the fermion Lagrangian, topological dipoles can be created.

Holographic Spectral Functions with Momentum Relaxation

We study (fermionic) spectral functions in two holographic models, the Gubser-Rocha-linear axion model and the linear axion model, where translational symmetry is broken by axion fields linear to the boundary coordinates ($ψ_{I}=βδ_{Ii} x^{i}$). Here, $β$ corresponds to the strength of momentum relaxation. The spectral function is computed by the fermionic Green's function of the bulk Dirac equation, where a fermion mass, $m$, and a dipole coupling, $p$, are introduced as input parameters. By classifying the shape of spectral functions, we construct complete phase diagrams in ($m,p,β$) space for both models. We find that two phase diagrams are similar even though their background geometries are different. We also find that the effect of momentum relaxation on the (spectral function) phases of two models are similar even though the effect of momentum relaxation on the DC conductivities of two models are very different. We suspect that this is because holographic fermion does not back-react to geometry in our framework.

Building Magnetic Hysteresis in Holography

We study the spontaneous magnetization and the magnetic hysteresis using the gauge/gravity duality. We first propose a novel and general formula to compute the magnetization in a large class of holographic models. By using this formula, we compute the spontaneous magnetization in a model like a holographic superconductor. Furthermore, we turn on the external magnetic field and build the hysteresis curve of magnetization and charge density. To our knowledge, this is the first holographic model realizing the hysteresis accompanied with spontaneous symmetry breaking. By considering the Landau-Ginzburg type effective potential in the symmetry broken phase, we obtain the mass of the magnon from the bulk geometry data.

Interaction induced quasi-particle spectrum and the origin of the pinning peak in holography

It is often said that interactions destroy the particle nature of excitations. We report that, in holographic theory adding interaction term can create a new quasi particle spectrum, on the contrary. We show this by calculating the optical conductivity in a model with exact background solution and finding a new quasi-particle spectrum. We argue that such new poles are generic consequence of any non-minimal interaction like Chern-Simon term. The interaction driven metal-insulator transition and the pinning effect in holography are examples of this phenomena. We also point out that the origin of the pinning peak is the vortex formation by the anomalous magnetic moment induced by the interaction term.

Quantum Correction to Chaos in Schwarzian Theory

We discuss the quantum correction to chaos in the Schwarzian theory. We carry out the semi-classical analysis of the Schwarzian theory to study Feynman diagrams of the Schwarzian soft mode. We evaluate the contribution of the soft mode to the out-of-time-order correlator up to order $\mathcal{O}(g^4)$. We show that the quantum correction of order $\mathcal{O}(g^4)$ by the soft mode decreases the maximum Lyapunov exponent $2π/ β$.

Unitarity bound violation in holography and the Instability toward the Charge Density Wave

We study the spectral function of fermions in a holographic set up with bulk Dirac mass in the regime beyond the conformal unitarity bound, and find that spectral function has the dispersion relation with tachyonic behavior, indicating an instability. Based on linearity between the density and the position of the tip of the k-gap, we suggest that this instability is toward the charge density wave(CDW) and the position of the tip can be identified as the wave vector of CDW. For the physical origin, we point out the similarity of unitarity violation in our non-Fermi Liquid theory and nesting phenomena in the Fermi liquid theory as the mechanism of CDW instability.

Acoustic black holes in curved spacetime and emergence of analogue Minkowski metric

Gravity is not only able to be mimicked in flat spacetimes, but also in curved spacetimes. We study analogue gravity models in curved spacetime by considering the relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii theory and Yang-Mills theory in the fixed background spacetime geometry. The results show that acoustic metrics can be emergent from curved spacetimes yielding a Hadamard product of a real metric-tensor and an analogue metric-tensor. Taking \emph{quantum vortices} as \emph{test particles}, we evaluate their released energy ratio during the "gravitational binding". The $2+1$-dimensional flat Minkowski metric is derived from the $3+1$-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space by considering perturbations of the Yang-Mills field, which implies that Minkowski spacetime can be also simulated and the derivations presented here have some deep connections with the holographic principle.

Entanglement String and Spin Liquid with Holographic Duality

We show that the quantum entanglement can be transmuted to a force using the holographic duality. First, we prove that there is an open string in the spectrum of the holographic fermion coupled with scalar. The string ends at two fermions and its tension vanishes in the limit of zero scalar condensation. We associate such string with a dimer and identify the scalar condensation as the degree of the dimerization. Together with divergently large entanglement entropy, the model is expected to describe the Spin Liquid. As a consistency check, we show that there is a Mott transition as the dimerization proceeds. We suggest that the string may be observed in an ARPES experiment of spin liquid or clean Dirac material as a tower of bands.

Mott transition with Holographic Spectral function

We show that the Mott transition can be realized in a holographic model of a fermion with bulk mass, $m$, and a dipole interaction of coupling strength $p$. The phase diagram contains gapless, pseudo-gap and gapped phases and the first one can be further divided into four sub-classes. We compare the spectral densities of our holographic model with the Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) results for Hubbard model as well as the experimental data of Vanadium Oxide materials. Interestingly, single-site and cluster DMFT results of Hubbard model share some similarities with the holographic model of different parameters, although the spectral functions are quite different due to the asymmetry in the holography part. The theory can fit the X-ray absorption spectrum (XAS) data quite well, but once the theory parameters are fixed with the former it can fit the photoelectric emission spectrum (PES) data only if we symmetrize the spectral function.

Complete Einstein equation from the generalized First Law of Entanglement

Recently it was observed that the first law of Entanglement leads to the linearized Einstein equation. In this paper, we point out that the gravity dual of an relative entropy expression is equivalent to the full non-linear Einstein equation. We also construct an entanglement vector field $V_{E}$ whose flux is the entanglement entropy. The flow of the vector field looks like sewing two space regions along the interface.

Schwarzian correction to quantum correlation in SYK model

We study a class of SYK-type models in large N limit from the gravity dual side in terms of Schwarzian action analytically. The quantum correction to two point correlation function due to the Schwarzian action produces transfer of degree of freedom from the quasiparticle peak to Hubbard band in density of states (DOS), a signature strong correlation. In Schwinger-Keldysh (SK) formalism, we calculate higher point thermal out-of-time order correlation (OTOC) functions, which indicate quantum chaos by having Lyapunov exponent. Higher order local spin-spin correlations are also calculated, which can be related to the dynamical local susceptibility of quantum liquids such as spin glasses, disordered metals.

Charged BTZ-like black hole solutions and the diffusivity-butterfly velocity relation

We show that there exists a class of charged BTZ-like black hole solutions in Lifshitz spacetime with a hyperscaling violating factor. The charged BTZ is characterized by a charge-dependent logarithmic term in the metric function. As concrete examples, we give five such charged BTZ-like black hole solutions and the standard charged BTZ metric can be regarded as a special instance of them. In order to check the recent proposed universal relations between diffusivity and the butterfly velocity, we first compute the diffusion constants of the standard charged BTZ black holes and then extend our calculation to arbitrary dimension $d$, exponents $z$ and $θ$. Remarkably, the case $d=θ$ and $z=2$ is a very special in that the charge diffusion $D_c$ is a constant and the energy diffusion $D_e$ might be ill-defined, but $v^2_Bτ$ diverges. We also compute the diffusion constants for the case that the DC conductivity is finite but in the absence of momentum relaxation.

Small Fermi Surfaces and Strong Correlation Effects in Dirac Materials with Holography

Recent discovery of transport anomaly in graphene demonstrated that a system known to be weakly interacting may become strongly correlated if system parameter(s) can be tuned such that fermi surface is sufficiently small. We study the strong correlation effects in the transport coefficients of Dirac materials doped with magnetic impurity under the magnetic field using holographic method. The experimental data of magneto-conductivity are well fit by our theory, however, not much data are available for other transports of Dirac material in such regime. Therefore, our results on heat transport,thermo-electric power and Nernst coefficients are left as predictions of holographic theory for generic Dirac materials in the vicinity of charge neutral point with possible surface gap. We give detailed look over each magneto-transport observable and 3Dplots to guide future experiments.

Strong Correlation Effects on Surfaces of Topological Insulators via Holography

We investigate effects of strong correlation on the surface state of topological insulator (TI). We argue that electrons in the regime of crossover from weak anti-localization to weak localization, are strongly correlated and calculate magneto-transport coefficients of TI using gauge gravity principle. Then, we examine, magneto-conductivity (MC) formula and find excellent agreement with the data of chrome doped Bi$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ in the crossover regime. We also find that cusp-like peak in MC at low doping is absent, which is natural since quasi-particles disappear due to the strong correlation.
