Shadows and Optical Appearances of Black Holes in $R^{2}$ Gravity

In this paper, we consider a charged AdS/dS black hole (BH) in $R^{2}$ gravity and study its optical features, including the shadow's geometrical shape and the energy emission rate. Additionally, we look for criteria to restrict the free parameters of the theory by comparing them to observational data of M87$^{\star}$. Then, we employ the Newman-Janis algorithm to build the rotating counterpart of the static solution in $R^{2}$ gravity and calculate the energy emission rate for the rotating case as well as discuss how the rotation factor and other parameters of this theory affect the emission of particles around the BHs. In the following, we consider the obtained rotating BH as a supermassive black hole and evaluate the parameters of the model with shadow size estimates based on the observations of M87$^{\star}$ from EHT.

Dynamics of test particles and scalar perturbations around Ayón-Beato-García black hole coupled with cloud of strings

In this paper, we investigate the geodesic motion and scalar perturbations of the Ayón-Beato-García (ABG) black hole (BH) coupled with a cloud of strings (CS). By employing the effective potential approach, we analyze the trajectories of massless and massive test particles around this regular BH solution. The interplay between nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED) and CS significantly modifies the spacetime geometry, resulting in distinct dynamical properties for test particles. The behavior of null and timelike geodesics, including their stability and escape conditions, is thoroughly examined. In addition to the geodesic analysis, we study scalar perturbations by deriving the Klein-Gordon equation for massless scalar fields in this spacetime. The resulting Schrödinger-like wave equation reveals an effective potential that depends intricately on the NLED and CS parameters. Furthermore, we compute the greybody factors (GFs) to explore the energy transmission and absorption properties of theBH. Our results demonstrate that the NLED parameter $g$ and the CS parameter $α$ play pivotal roles in modulating the GFs, influencing the energy spectrum of scalar radiation. These results provide significant understanding of the observational characteristics of the ABG NLED-CS BH in astrophysical contexts.

Astrophysical properties of static black holes embedded in a Dehnen type dark matter halo with the presence of quintessential field

From an astrophysical perspective, the composition of black holes (BHs), dark matter (DM), and dark energy can be an intriguing physical system. In this study, we consider Schwarzschild BHs embedded in a Dehnen-type DM halo exhibiting a quintessential field. This study examines the horizons, shadows, deflection angle, and quasinormal modes (QNMs) of the effective BH spacetime and how they are affected by the dark sector. The Schwarzschild BH embodied in a Dehnen-type DM halo exhibiting a quintessential field possesses two horizons: the event horizon and the cosmological horizon. We demonstrate that all dark sector parameters increase the event horizon while decreasing the cosmological horizon. We analyze the BH shadow and emphasize the impact of DM and quintessence parameters on them. We show that the dark sector casts larger shadows than a Schwarzschild BH in a vacuum. Further, we delve into the weak gravitational lensing deflection angle using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT). We then investigate QNMs using the 6th order WKB approach. To visually underscore the dark sector parameters, we present figures that illustrate the impact of varying the parameters of the Dehnen-type DM halo as well as quintessence. Our findings show that the gravitational waves emitted from BHs with a dark sector have a lower frequency and decay rate compared to those emitted from BHs in a vacuum.

Astrophysical insights into magnetic Penrose process around parameterized Konoplya-Rezzolla-Zhidenko black hole

In this study, we investigate the parameterized Konoplya-Rezzolla-Zhidenko (KRZ) black hole (BH) spacetime in the presence of an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We first examine the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) radii for both neutral and charged test particles, demonstrating that the deformation parameters, $δ_1$ and $δ_2$, reduce the ISCO values. Subsequently, we assess the energy efficiency of the magnetic Penrose process (MPP) for an axially symmetric parameterized BH, analyzing the effects of the deformation parameters and the magnetic field on the energy extraction process. Our findings indicate that the rotational deformation parameter $δ_2$ is crucial for the efficiency of energy extraction from the BH. The synergy between the rotational deformation parameter and the magnetic field significantly boosts the energy extraction efficiency, with values exceeding $100\%$. Interestingly, for extremal BHs with negative $δ_2$ values, the energy efficiency increases, in contrast to Kerr BHs where the MPP effect diminishes. Additionally, we explore the astrophysical implications of the MPP by deriving the maximum energy of a proton escaping from the KRZ parameterized BH due to the beta decay of a free neutron near the horizon. Our results show that negative $δ_2$ values require stronger magnetic fields to achieve equivalent energy levels for high-energy protons, providing deeper insights into high-energy astrophysical phenomena around the parameterized BH.

Quasinormal modes and shadow of Schwarzschild black holes embedded in a Dehnen type dark matter halo exhibiting string cloud

In this paper, we consider a static spherically symmetric black hole (BH) embedded in a Dehnen-(1,4,0) type dark matter (DM) halo in the presence of a cloud string. We examine and present data on how the core density of the DM halo parameter and the cloud string parameter affect BH attributes such as quasinormal modes (QNMs) and shadow cast. To do this, we first look into the effective potential of perturbation equations for three types of perturbation fields with different spins: massless scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational field. Then, using the 6th order WKB approximation, we examine quasinormal modes of the BH disturbed by the three fields and derive quasinormal frequencies. The changes of QNM versus the core density parameter and the cloud string parameter for three disturbances are explored. We also investigate how the core density and the cloud string parameters affect the photon sphere and shadow radius. Interestingly, the study shows that the influence of Dehnen type DM and cloud string increases both photon spheres and shadow radius. Finally, we employ observational data from Sgr $A{^\star}$ and $M87{^\star}$ to set limitations on the BH parameters.

Particle dynamics and the accretion disk around a Self-dual Black Hole immersed in a magnetic field in Loop Quantum Gravity

In this paper, we study the motion of magnetic dipoles and electrically charged particles in the vicinity of a self-dual black hole in Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We explore the effects of the quantum correction parameter and electromagnetic interactions on the particle geodesics. We derive the field equations and determine the electromagnetic four-vector potential for the case of a self-dual black hole in LQG. We investigate the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) for both magnetic dipoles and electrically charged particles in detail, demonstrating that the quantum correction parameter significantly influences on the ISCO radius, causing it to shrink. Additionally, we show that the ISCO radius of magnetic dipoles is greater than that of electrically charged particles due to the magnetic field interaction. We investigate the ISCO parameters (i.e., $r_{ISCO}$, $l_{ISCO}$, $\mathcal{E}_{ISCO}$, $v_{ISCO}$, and $Ω_{ISCO}$) for magnetic dipoles and electrically charged particles, providing detailed values. Furthermore, we examine the trajectories of charged particles under various scenarios resulting from the quantum correction parameter $P$. Finally, analyzing the ISCO parameters that define the inner edge of the accretion disk, we explore the accretion disk around a self-dual black hole in LQG. We delve into the electromagnetic radiation flux, temperature, and differential luminosity as radiation properties of the accretion disk in detail. We show that the quantum correction parameter shifts the profile of the electromagnetic flux and accretion disk temperature towards the central object, leading to a slight increase in these quantities.

Energetics of Buchdahl stars and the magnetic Penrose process

Buchdahl star is the most compact object without an event horizon and is an excellent candidate for a black hole mimicker. Unlike black holes, rotating Buchdahl star can be over-extremal with respect to the black hole, sustaining a larger spin. We show that it can also develop an ergosphere above the threshold spin $β> 1/\sqrt{2}$, which allows extraction of its rotational energy. Electromagnetic field around Buchdahl star is also expected to differ from that of black hole in both strength and topology. In this paper, we explore the energetics of Buchdahl star focusing on the magnetic Penrose process in the two magnetic field configurations, i.e., uniform and dipole. Below the threshold spin, Buchdahl star is expected to be quiet, while above the threshold it can be much more efficient than the black hole if a dipolar magnetic field is developed on its surface.

Geodesics structure and deflection angle of electrically charged black holes in gravity with a background Kalb-Ramond field

This article investigates the geodesic structure and deflection angle of charged black holes in the presence of a nonzero vacuum expectation value background of the Kalb-Ramond field. Topics explored include null and timelike geodesics, energy extraction by collisions, and the motion of charged particles. The photon sphere radius is calculated and plotted to examine the effects of both the black hole charge ($Q$) and the Lorentz-violating parameter ($b$) on null geodesics. The effective potential for timelike geodesics is analyzed, and second-order analytical orbits are derived. We further show that the combined effects of Lorentz-violating parameter and electric charge can mimic a Kerr black hole spin parameter up to its maximum values, i.e., $a/M \sim 1$ thus suggesting that the current precision of measurements of highly spinning black hole candidates may not rule out the effect of Lorentz-violating parameter. The center of mass energy of colliding particles is also considered, demonstrating a decrease with increasing Lorentz-violating parameter. Circular orbiting particles of charged particles are discovered, with the minimum radius for a stable circular orbit decreasing as both $b$ and $Q$ increase. Results show that this circular orbit is particularly sensitive to changes in the Lorentz-violating parameter. Additionally, a timelike particle trajectory is demonstrated as a consequence of the combined effects of parameters $b$ and $Q$. Finally, the light deflection angle is analyzed using the weak field limit approach to determine the Lorentz-breaking effect, employing the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for computation. Findings are visualized with appropriate plots and thoroughly discussed.

Electric Penrose process and the accretion disk around a 4D charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole

In this paper, we aim to examine the electric Penrose process (PP) around a charged black hole in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity and bring out the effect of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling parameter $α$ and black hole charge on the efficiency of the energy extraction from the black hole. This research is motivated by the fact that electrostatic interactions significantly influence the behavior of charged particles in the vicinity of a charged static black hole. Under this interaction, decaying charged particles can have negative energies, causing energy to be released from black holes with no ergosphere. We show that the GB coupling parameter has a significant impact on the energy efficiency of the electric PP, but the efficiency can be strongly enhanced by the black hole charge due to the Coulomb force. Finally, we consider the accretion disk around the black hole and investigate in detail its radiation properties, such as the electromagnetic radiation flux, the temperature, and the differential luminosity. We show that the GB coupling parameter can have a significant impact on the radiation parameters, causing them to increase in the accretion disk in the vicinity of the black hole. Interestingly, it is found that the 4D EGB charged black hole is more efficient and favorable for the accretion disk radiation compared to a charged black hole in Einstein gravity.

Shadows and weak gravitational lensing by the black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory

In this paper, we investigate the optical properties of a charged black hole in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar (EMS) theory. We evaluate the shadow cast by the black hole and obtain analytical solutions for both the radius of the photon sphere and the shadow radius. We observe that the black hole parameters $γ$ and $β$ both influence the shadow of black hole. It is shown that the photon sphere and the shadow radius increase as a consequence of the presence of parameter $γ$. Interestingly, we show that shadow radius decreases first and then remains unchanged due to the impact of parameter $β$. Finally, we consider the weak gravitational lensing and the total magnification of lensed images around black hole. We find that the black hole charge and parameter $β$ both give rise to a significant effect, reducing the deflection angle. Similarly, the same behavior for the total magnification is observed due to the effect of black hole charge and parameter $β$.

Kerr-Newman-modified-gravity black hole's impact on the magnetic reconnection

In this paper, we study the magnetic reconnection process of energy extraction from a rapidly rotating Kerr-Newman-modified-gravity (MOG) black hole by investigating the combined effect of black hole charge and the MOG parameter. We explore the energy efficiency of energy extraction and power by applying the new energy extraction mechanism proposed by Comisso and Asenjo. Based on an attractive gravitational charge of the MOG parameter $α$ that physically manifests to strengthen black hole gravity, we show that the combined effect of the MOG parameter and black hole charge can play an increasingly important role and accordingly lead to high energy efficiency and power for the energy extraction via the magnetic reconnection. Further, we study to estimate the rate of energy extraction under the fast magnetic reconnection by comparing the power of the magnetic reconnection and Blandford-Znajek (BZ) mechanisms. We show that the rate of energy extraction increases as a consequence of the combined effect of black hole charge and MOG parameter. It suggests that magnetic reconnection is significantly more efficient than the BZ mechanism. In fact, the magnetic reconnection is fueled by magnetic field energy due to the twisting of magnetic field lines around the black hole for the plasma acceleration, and thus the MOG parameter gives rise to even more fast spin that can strongly change the magnetic field reconfiguration due to the frame dragging effect. This is how energy extraction is strongly enhanced through the magnetic reconnection, thus making the energy extraction surprisingly more efficient for the Kerr-Newman-MOG black hole than the Kerr black hole under the combined effect of black hole charge and MOG parameter.

Efficiency of magnetic Penrose process in higher dimensional Myers-Perry black hole spacetimes

In this paper, we consider a well-established magnetic Penrose process (MPP) and bring out its impact on the efficiency of energy extraction from higher dimensional (i.e., $D>4$) black holes. We derive the field equations of motion and determine the expressions for the energy efficiency of energy extraction for the case of higher dimensional black holes. We also examine the efficiency of energy extraction from black holes with $(n-1)$ and $n$ rotations. We demonstrate that black holes with $(n-1)$ rotations has only one horizon, resulting in infinitely large energy efficiency even without MPP. On the other hand, for black holes with $n$ rotations in $D>4$, the energy efficiency is not infinitely large, but the efficiency can be significantly enhanced by MPP. This enhancement allows for arbitrarily large energy efficiency. We find that the efficiency of energy extraction can exceed over $>100\%$ for $D=5,6$ and $D=7,8$ dimensions. Interestingly, for rotation parameters near the extremal value, the energy efficiency remains above $100 \%$ in $D=7,8$ compared to $D=5,6$. MPP can eventually make higher dimensional black holes more efficient even with $n$ rotations.

GUP corrected black holes with cloud of string

We investigate shadows, deflection angle, quasinormal modes (QNMs), and sparsity of Hawking radiation of the Schwarzschild string cloud black hole's solution after applying quantum corrections required by the Generalised Uncertainty Principle (GUP). First, we explore the shadow's behaviour in the presence of a string cloud using three alternative GUP frameworks: linear quadratic GUP (LQGUP), quadratic GUP (QGUP), and linear GUP. We then used the weak field limit approach to determine the effect of the string cloud and GUP parameters on the light deflection angle, with computation based on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. Next, to compute the quasinormal modes of Schwarzschild string clouds incorporating quantum correction with GUP, we determine the effective potentials generated by perturbing scalar, electromagnetic and fermionic fields, using the sixth-order WKB approach in conjunction with the appropriate numerical analysis. Our investigation indicates that string and linear GUP parameters have distinct and different effects on QNMs. We find that the greybody factor increases due to the presence of string cloud while the linear GUP parameter shows the opposite. We then examine the radiation spectrum and sparsity in the GUP corrected black hole with the cloud of string framework, which provides additional information about the thermal radiation released by black holes. Finally, our inquiries reveal that the influence of the string parameter and the quadratic GUP parameter on various astrophysical observables is comparable, however the impact of the linear GUP parameter is opposite.

A regular MOG black hole's impact on shadows and gravitational weak lensing in the presence of quintessence field

We investigate the impact of the modified gravity (MOG) field and the quintessence scalar field on horizon evolution, black hole (BH) shadow and the weak gravitational lensing around a static spherically symmetric BH. We first begin to write the BH metric associated with the MOG parameter and quintessence scalar field. We then determine the BH shadow and obtain numerical solutions for the photon sphere and shadow radius. We show that the MOG ($α$) and the quintessence ($c$) parameters have a significant impact on BH shadow and photon sphere. Based on the analysis, we further show that the combined effects of the MOG parameter and quintessential field can increase the values of BH shadow and photon sphere radii. We also obtain constraints on the BH parameters by applying the observational data of Sgr A$^{\star}$ and M87$^{\star}$. Finally, we consider the weak deflection angle of BH within the context of the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) and show that the combined effects of the MOG and quintessence parameters do make the value of the deflection angle grow, referring to remarkable property being in well agreement with the physical meaning of both parameters that can maintain the strong gravitational field in the surrounding environment of BH.

We determine all the orbital parameters of particles in the accretion disk, including the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) with angular velocity, angular momentum, and energy. Further, we study the radiative efficiency for different values of black hole parameters. Finally, we analyze the flux, differential luminosity, and temperature of the accretion disk.

Like Black holes, Buchdahl stars cannot be extremalized

It was shown long back in \cite{Dadhich97} that a non-extremal black hole cannot be converted into an extremal one by test particle adiabatic accretion. The Buchdahl star is the most compact object without horizon and is defined by $Φ(R) = 4/9$, while black hole by $Φ(R) = 1/2$. Here $Φ(R)$ is the gravitational potential experienced by a particle, radially falling for static and axially for the rotating object. In this short note we examine the question of extremalization of the Buchdhal star and show that the same result holds good as for the black hole. That is, a non-extremal Buchdahl star cannot be extremalized by test particle accretion. Further since extremal limit for BS is $>1$, it could facilitate formation of extremal black holes by neutral and spinless accretion. That is perhaps the only way they could be formed.

On the parameters of the spherically symmetric parametrized Rezzolla-Zhidenko spacetime through solar system tests, orbit of S2 star about Sgr A$^\star$, and quasiperiodic oscillations

In this paper, we find the higher order expansion parameters $α$ and $λ$ of spherically symmetric parametrized Rezzolla--Zhidenko (PRZ) spacetime by using its functions of the radial coordinate. We subject the parameters of this spacetime to classical tests including weak gravitational field effects in Solar System, observations of the S2 star located in the star cluster close to the Sgr A$^{\star}$ and of the frequencies of selected microquasars. Based on this spherically symmetric spacetime we perform the analytic calculations for Solar System effects like perihelion shift, light deflection, and gravitational time delay so as to determine limits on the parameters by using observational data. We restrict our attention to the limits on the two higher order expansion parameters $α$ and $λ$ that survive at the horizon or near the horizon of spherically symmetric metrics. The properties of these two small parameters expansion in PRZ parametrization are discussed. We further apply the Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) simulations to analyze and obtain the limits on the expansion parameters by using observations of phenomena of the S2 star. Finally, we consider the epicyclic motions and derive analytic expressions of the epicyclic frequencies. Applying these expressions to the quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) of selected microquasars allows us to set further limits on the parameters of the PRZ spacetime. Our results demonstrate that the higher order expansion parameters can be given in the range $α\, ,λ=(-0.09\, , 0.09)$ and of order $\sim 10^{-2}$ as a consequence of three various tests and observations.
