Extending the weak cosmic censorship conjecture to the charged Buchdahl star by employing the gedanken experiments

In this paper, we wish to investigate the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) for the non black hole object, Buchdahl star and test its validity. It turns out that the extremal limit for the star is over-extremal for black hole, $Q^2/M^2 \leq 9/8 >1$; i.e., it could have $9/8 \geq Q^2/M^2 > 1$. By carrying out both linear and non-linear perturbations, we establish the same result for the Buchdahl star as well. That is, as for black hole it could be overcharged at the linear perturbation while the result is overturned when the non-linear perturbations are included. Thus WCCC is always obeyed by the Buchdahl star.

Epicyclic motions and constraints on the charged stringy black hole spacetime

The purpose of this paper is to examine the epicyclic motion of charged particles in the vicinity of a magnetically charged stringy black hole subject to an electromagnetic field. This investigation is motivated by the established fact that magnetic fields have a significant impact on the motion of charged particles in the vicinity of a black hole. It has been observed that the magnetic coupling parameter has a comparable impact on the motion of magnetic monopole charge, leading to an increase/decrease in the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) that plays a crucial role in setting the accretion disk's the inner edge. Further, we analyze the characteristics of the epicyclic motion and determine the generic form for the epicyclic frequencies. Our results demonstrate that the existence of the magnetic coupling parameter can account for the observed resonance of high frequency QPOs from selected three specific microquasars. We have applied the Monte Carlo simulations with the observed frequencies for three selected microquasars to constrain the parameters of the magnetically charged stringy black holes as well as coupling parameters that describe the interaction between the particle and the black hole. Finally, we study in detail the radiation properties of the accretion disk in the close vicinity of black hole. We show that the magnetic coupling parameter can have significant influence on the radiation flux of the accretion disk.

Overcharging process around a magnetized black hole: Can the backreaction effect of magnetic field restore cosmic censorship conjecture?

It is well known that the electrically charged Reissner-Nordström black hole could be overcharged. Here, we investigate the process of overcharging of a magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole that includes effect of the magnetic field generated by own magnetic charge of source on the background geometry. It is found that magnetic field prevents a transition to occur from black hole to naked singularity, thus overcharging cannot be attained which happens due to the fact that the magnetic field reaches its threshold value. It turns out that beyond threshold value the magnetic field can exert large Lorentz force on particles and dominate over the gravitational force, allowing charged particles not to fall into the black hole. One may conclude, there occurs no evidence for violation of cosmic censorship conjecture for a magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole beyond threshold value of the magnetic field.

Shadows and gravitational weak lensing by the Schwarzschild black hole in the string cloud background with quintessential field

In this work, we observe that in the presence of the string cloud parameter $a$ and the quintessence parameter $γ$, with the equation of state parameter $ω_q={-2}/{3}$ the radius of the shadow of the Schwarzschild black hole increases as compared with the pure Schwarzschild black hole case. The existence of both quintessential dark energy and cloud of strings magnify the shadow size and hence the strength of the gravitational field around the Schwarzschild black hole increases. Using the data collected by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration for the M87* and Sgr A*, we obtain upper bounds on the values of the parameters $a$ and $γ$. Further, we see the effects of the parameters $a$ and $γ$ on the rate of emission energy for the Schwarzschild black hole. We notice that the rate of emission energy is higher in the presence of clouds of string and quintessence. Moreover, we study the weak deflection angle using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We show the influence of the cloud of string parameter $a$ and the quintessential parameter $γ$ on the weak deflection angle. We notice that both the parameters $a$ and $γ$ increase the deflection angle $α$.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the pure Lovelock gravity

It is well known that a rotating black hole in four dimension could be overspun by linear order test particle accretion which however always gets overturned when non-linear perturbations are included. It turns out that in the Einstein gravity, repulsion due to rotation dominates over attraction due to mass in dimensions, $D>5$, and consequently black hole cannot be overspun even for linear order accretion. For the pure Lovelock rotating black hole, this dimensional threshold is $D>4N+1$ where $N$ is degree of single $N$th order term in the Lovelock polynomial in the action. Thus the pure Lovelock rotating black holes always obey the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) in all dimensions greater than $4N+1$. Since overall gravity being repulsive beyond this dimensional threshold, how is rotating black hole then formed there?

Constraints on the magnetized Ernst black hole spacetime through quasiperiodic oscillations

We study the dynamics of test particles around a magnetized Ernst black hole considering its magnetic field in the environment surrounding the black hole. We show how its magnetic field can influence the dynamics of particles and epicyclic motion around the black hole. Based on the analysis, we find that the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for both neutral and charged test particles and epicyclic frequencies are strongly affected by the influence of the magnetic field. We also show that the ISCO radius of charged particles decreases rapidly. It turns out that the gravitational and Lorentz forces of the magnetic field are combined, thus strongly shrinking the values of the ISCO of charged test particles. Finally, we obtain the generic form for the epicyclic frequencies and select three microquasars with known astrophysical quasiperiodic oscillation (QPO) data to constrain the magnetic field. We show that the magnetic field is of the order of magnitude $B\sim 10^{-7}$ Gauss, taking into account the motion of neutral particles in circular orbit about the black hole.

Efficiency of Penrose process in spacetime of axially symmetric magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole

In this paper, we investigate the Penrose process in the purlieus of the axially symmetric magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole for both neutral and charged particles. We start with the study of the geometry of the black hole and find the regions where the $g_{tt}$ component of the metric tensor is positive (i.e., $g_{tt}>0$). It is interestingly found that the condition $g_{tt}>0$ is fulfilled not only close to the event horizon known as the ergosphere but also far away from the event horizon in the silhouette of potential wells. We also show that as the dimensionless magnetic field $B$ increases the silhouette of potential wells for which $g_{tt}>0$ grows correspondingly and eventually merges with the ergoregion when $B\gtrsim 1.6$. Finally, we investigate the efficiency of the Penrose process for the axially symmetric magnetized black hole case and bring out the effect of the magnetic field on it. Further, we also compare our results with the one for Kerr black hole. We show that when the charge $Q$ of the black hole is kept constant, the efficiency of the energy extraction process for the case of {a neutral particle (i.e., $q/m=0$) first increases and then begins to decrease with rise in the value of $B$ field, in contrast to Kerr black hole where it always increases as the rotation parameter grows. However, for the case of a charged particle (i.e., $q\neq 0$) the efficiency always increases with the rise in the $B$ field and can go over $100\%$, when both $B$ and $q/m$ are large enough (say $B\approx1$ and $q/m>2.2$)}. It is worth noting that the existence of regions away from the horizon where $g_{tt}>0$ also favors the energy-extraction process away from the effect of the black hole. However, the energy extraction from these regions is pure consequence of the magnetic field.

Chaos motion and Periastron precession of spinning test particles moving in the vicinage of a Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by a quintessence matter field

In the present work, our main objective is to investigate the orbits of spinning test particles around a Schwarzschild black hole under the influence of a quintessence matter field (SQBH). We begin with the dynamics of the spinning test particles around SQBH which is governed by the Mathisson-Papapetrou-Dixon (MPD) equations under the pole-dipole approximation, where the gravitational field and the higher multipoles of the particle are neglected. Depending on the types of saddle points, the effective potential are classified and the possibility of chaotic orbits is discussed. The inner most stable circular orbits (ISCOs) of the spinning particle around SQBH are addressed, as are the effects of the parameters $S$ (particles' spin) and $ε$ (equation of state parameter). Later, Periastron precession is investigated up to the first-order spin correction for a spinning particle moving in nearly circular orbits around SQBH. It is noted that the addition of particle's spin revamps the results obtained for the non-spinning particles and also articulates the some interesting observational properties of the SQBH. Additionally, we discuss the ramifications of employing first-order spin corrections for analysing ISCOs, as well as compare our results to the Schwarzschild black hole to ensure that they are consistent in the limit when equation of state parameter $ε=-1/3$ and normalization factor $α\to 0$.

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the (2+1)-dimensional charged BTZ black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

It is well known that ($2+1$) dimensional charged BTZ (Banados, Teitelboim, Zanelli) black hole can be overcharged by a charged scalar field and a charged particle in contrast to their analogues in ($3+1$) and higher dimensions. In this regard, it may play an important role to understand more deeply the properties of the ($2+1$)-dimensional charged black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. In this paper, we test the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for the ($2+1$)-dimensional charged black hole in novel EGB theory derived recently by Henniger et. al (2021). We show that the minimum energy that particle can have at the horizon becomes negative for both an extremal and nearly-extremal BTZ black holes in EGB gravity. It is proven that both extremal and nearly-extremal $(2+1)$ dimensional BTZ black hole could be overcharged in EGB theory, leading to the violation of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC), which is in good agreement with the results obtained for the classical BTZ black hole.

Motion of charged and spinning particle influenced by dark matter field surrounding a charged dyonic black hole

We investigate the motion of massive charged and spinning test particles around a charged dyonic black hole spacetime surrounded by perfect fluid scalar dark matter field. We obtain the equations of motion and find the expressions for the four-velocity for the case of a charged particle, and four-momentum components for the case of a spinning particle. The trajectories for various values of electric $Q_{e}$ and magnetic $Q_{m}$ charges are investigated under the influence of dark matter field $λ$. We find the equations of motion of a spinning particle that follows a non-geodesic trajectory via Lagrangian approach in addition to the charged and non-spinning particles that follow geodesic motion in this set-up. We study in detail the properties of innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) in the equatorial plane. The study of ISCOs of a spinning massive particle is done by using the pole-dipole approximation. We show that, in addition to the particle's spin, the dark matter field parameter $λ$ and black hole charges ($Q_{m}\;\text{and}\;Q_{e}$) have a significant influence on the ISCOs of spinning particles. It is observed that if the spin is parallel to the total angular momentum $J$ (i.e. $\mathcal{S}>0$), the ISCO parameters (i.e.$r_{ISCO}, L_{ISCO}\;\text{and}\; E_{ISCO}$) of a spinning particle are smaller than those of a non-spinning particle, whereas if the spin is anti-parallel to total angular momentum $J$ (i.e. $\mathcal{S}<0$), the value of the ISCO parameters is greater than that of the non-spinning particle. We also show that for the corresponding values of spin parameter S, the behaviour of Keplerian angular frequency of ISCO $Ω_{ISCO}$ is opposite to that of $r_{ISCO}, L_{ISCO}\; \text{and}\; E_{ISCO}$.

Circular orbits around higher dimensional Einstein and pure Gauss-Bonnet rotating black holes

In this paper we study circular orbits around higher dimensional rotating Myers-Perry and pure Gauss-Bonnet (GB) black holes. It turns out that for the former there occurs no potential well to harbour bound and thereby stable circular orbits. The only circular orbits that could occur are all unstable and their radius is bounded from the below by that of the photon circular orbit. On the other hand bound and stable circular orbits do exist for pure GB/Lovelock rotating black holes (the metric is though not an exact solution of pure Lovelock vacuum equation but it satisfies the equation in the leading order and has all the desired properties) in dimensions, $2N+2 \leq D \leq 4N$ (for $N=2$ pure GB in $D = 6, 7, 8$) where $N$ is the degree of Lovelock polynomial. Thus bound and stable circular orbits could exist around higher dimensional rotating black holes only for pure GB/Lovelock gravity. This property is a nice discriminator between Myers-Perry and pure GB/Lovelock rotating black holes.

Effect of perfect fluid dark matter on particle motion around a static black hole immersed in an external magnetic field

We investigate particle and photon motion in the vicinity of a static and spherically symmetric black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter in the presence of an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for charged test particles and the radius for unstable circular photon orbits and show that the effect of the presence of dark matter shrinks the values of ISCO and photon sphere radii. Based on the analysis of the ISCO radius we further show that the combined effects of dark matter and magnetic field can mimic the spin of a Kerr black hole up to $ a/M \approx 0.75-0.8$. Finally, we consider the effect of the presence of dark matter on the center of mass energy of colliding particles in the black hole vicinity. We show that the center of mass energy grows as the value of the dark matter parameter increases. This result, in conjunction with the fact that, in the presence of an external magnetic field, the ISCO radius can become arbitrarily close to the horizon leads to arbitrarily high energy that can be extracted by the collision process, similarly to what is observed in the super-spinning Kerr case.

On black hole formation in higher dimensions

The two main processes of black hole formation are: one, collapse of a matter cloud under its own gravity and the other is accretion of matter onto an already existing gravitating centre. The necessary condition for both the processes to operate is that overall force on collapsing fluid element or on test accreting particles is attractive. It turns out that this is not the case in general in higher dimensions greater than the usual four for collapsing or accreting matter having non-zero angular momentum. Thus both these processes cannot operate in higher dimensions to form a rotating black hole. The only theory in which this is not the case in higher dimensions is the pure Lovelock gravity where both these processes could in principle work for formation of black holes.

Motion of Particles and Gravitational Lensing Around (2+1)-dimensional BTZ black holes in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We study motion of test particles and photons in the vicinity of (2+1) dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB) BTZ black hole. We find that the presence of the coupling constant serves as an attractive gravitational charge, shifting the innermost stable circular orbits outward with respect to the one for this theory in 4 dimensions. Further we consider the gravitational lensing, to test the GB gravity in (2+1) dimensions and show that the presence of GB parameter causes the bending angle to grow up first with the increase of the inverse of closest approach distance, $u_0$, then have its maximum value for specific $u_0^*$, and then reduce until zero. We also show that increase in the value of the GB parameter makes the bending angle smaller and the increase in the absolute value of the negative cosmological constant produces opposite effect on this angle.

Charged black hole in $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: Particle motion, plasma effect on weak gravitational lensing and centre-of-mass energy

We study the motion of charged and spinning particles and photons in the $4D$ charged Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) black hole vicinity. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for test particles. We show that the combined effect of the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling parameter and black hole charge decreases the ISCO and the radius of the photon sphere. Further, we study the gravitational deflection angle and show that the impact of GB term and black hole charge on it is quite noticeable. We also consider the effect of plasma and find the analytical form of the deflection angle in the case of a uniform and non-uniform plasma. Interestingly we find that the deflection angle becomes larger when uniform plasma is considered in comparison to the case of non-uniform plasma. We also study the center of mass energy ($E_{C.M.}$) obtained by collision process for non-spinning particles and show that the impact of GB parameter and black hole charge leads to high energy collision. In addition, we also study the $E_{C.M.}$ for the case of spinning particles and show that if the two spinning particles collide near the horizon of $4D$ charged EGB BH, the $E_{C.M.}$ becomes infinitely high which is in disparity with the non-spinning particles counterpart where $E_{C.M.}$ never grows infinitely. To achieve this, an important role is played by the spinning particle known as the \textit{near-critical} particle (i.e. a particle with fine-tuned parameters). In order to achieve the unbounded $E_{C.M}$ from the collision of two spinning particles, the energy per unit mass must be less than unity for a \textit{near-critical} particle, which means such a particle starts from some intermediate position $r>r_{h}$ and not from infinity.

Dynamics of particles and epicyclic motions around Schwarzschild-de-Sitter black hole in perfect fluid dark matter

In this paper we investigate circular orbits for test particles around Schwarzschild-de Sitter (dS) black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. We determine the region of circular orbits bounded by innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. We show that the impact of the perfect fluid dark matter shrinks the region where circular orbits can exist as the values of both innermost and outermost stable circular orbits decrease. We find that for specific lower and upper values of dark matter parameter there exist double matching values for inner and outermost stable circular orbits. It turns out that the gravitational attraction due to the dark matter contribution dominates over cosmological repulsion. This gives rise to a remarkable result in the Schwarzschild-dS black hole surrounded by dark matter field in contrast to the Schwarzschild-dS metric. Finally, we study epicyclic motion and its frequencies with their applications to twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) for various models. We find corresponding values of the black hole parameters which could best fit and explain the observed twin peak QPO object GRS 1915+109 from microquasars.

Charged particle motion around a magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole

We investigate the dynamics of neutral and charged test particles around axially symmetric magnetized black hole spacetime. We consider its electromagnetic field in the black hole vicinity and study its impact on the dynamics of test particles. We determine the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for neutral and charged test particles and show that the combined effect of black hole electric charge and magnetic field strongly affects the ISCO radius, thus shrinking its values. We also show that the ISCO radius of positively (negatively) charged particle initially gets increased (decreased) and then gets radically altered with an increase in the value of both black hole electric charge and test particle charge. It turns out that the repulsive (attractive) Coulomb force dominates over the Lorentz force arising from the black hole magnetic field. Typically, black hole rotation causes axially symmetric spacetime case. Similarly, it turns out that a magnetized black hole solution also causes axially symmetric spacetime as a consequence of the presence of magnetic field. We study a degeneracy for the value of the ISCO between the Kerr and the magnetized Reissner-Nordström black hole geometries and show that the combined effects of black hole charge and magnetic field can be mimicked by Kerr spacetime with the spin parameter up to $a/M\approx 0.8$. Finally, we consider the center of mass energy of colliding particles and show that an increase in the values of black hole magnetic field and electric charge leads to high center of mass energy extracted by collision of two particles.

Testing the weak cosmic censorship conjecture for a Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter

In this paper, we test the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) for the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter (RN-dS) black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. We consider a spherically symmetric perturbation on deriving linear and non-linear order perturbation inequalities by applying new version of gedanken experiments well accepted from the work of Sorce and Wald. Contrary to the well-known result that the Reissner-Nordström (RN) black hole could be overcharged under linear order particle accretion it is hereby shown that the same black hole in perfect fluid dark matter with cosmological parameter cannot be overcharged. Considering a realistic scenario in which black holes can not be considered to be in vacuum we investigate the contribution of dark matter and cosmological constant in the overcharging process of an electrically charged black hole. We demonstrate that the black hole can be overcharged only when two fields induced by dark matter and cosmological parameter are completely balanced. Further we give a remarkable result that black hole cannot be overcharged beyond a certain threshold limit for which the effect arising from the cosmological constant dominates over the effect by the perfect fluid dark matter. Thus even for linear accretion process, the black hole cannot always be overcharged and hence obeys the WCCC in general. This result would continues be fulfilled for non-linear order accretion.
