Heavy-quark transport coefficients in a hot viscous quark-gluon plasma medium

The heavy-quark (HQ) transport coefficients have been estimated for a viscous quark-gluon plasma medium, utilizing a recently proposed quasi-particle description based on realistic QGP equation of state (EoS). Interactions entering through the equation of state significantly suppress the temperature dependence of the drag coefficient of QGP as compared to that of an ideal system of quarks and gluons. Inclusion of shear and bulk viscosities through the corrections to the thermal phase space factors of the bath particles alters the magnitude of the drag coefficient and the enhancement is significant at lower temperatures. The competition between the effects of realistic EoS and dissipative corrections through phase space factor the former eventually dictate how the drag coefficient would behave as a function of temperature, and how much quantitatively digress from the ideal case. The observations suggest significant impact of both the realistic equation of state, and the viscosities, on the HQs transport at RHIC and the LHC collision energies.

Heavy Flavor Suppression: Boltzmann vs Langevin

The propagation of heavy flavor through the quark gluon plasma has been treated commonly within the framework of Langevin dynamics, i.e. assuming the heavy flavor momentum transfer is much smaller than the light one. On the other hand a similar suppression factor $R_{AA}$ has been observed experimentally for light and heavy flavors. We present a thorough study of the approximations involved by Langevin equation by mean of a direct comparison with the full collisional integral within the framework of Boltzmann transport equation. We have compared the results obtained in both approaches which can differ substantially for charm quark leading to quite different values extracted for the heavy quark diffusion coefficient. In the case of bottom quark the approximation appears to be quite reasonable.

A random walk with heavy flavours

We focus on evaluating transport coefficients like drag and diffusion of heavy quarks (HQ) passing through Quark Gluon Plasma using perturbative QCD (pQCD). Experimental observable like nuclear suppression factor (RAA) of HQ is evaluated for both zero and non-zero baryonic chemical potential (μ_B) scenarios using Fokker- Planck equation. Theoretical estimates of RAA are contrasted with experiments.

Heavy flavor suppression: role of hadronic matter

The role of hadronic matter in the suppression of open heavy flavored mesons has been studied. The heavy-quarks (HQs) suppression factors have been calculated and contrasted with the experimental data obtained from nuclear collisions at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and Large Hadronic Collider (LHC) experiments. It is found that the suppression in the hadronic phase at RHIC energy is around $20%-25%$ whereas at the LHC it is around $10%-12%$ for the D meson. In case of B meson the hadronic suppression is around $10%-12%$ and $5%-6%$ at RHIC and LHC energies respectively. Present study suggests that the suppression of heavy flavor in the hadronic phase is significant at RHIC. However, the effect of hadronic suppression at LHC is marginal, this makes the characterization of QGP at LHC less complicated.

Elliptic flow of thermal dileptons as a probe of QCD matter

We study the variation of elliptic flow of thermal dileptons with transverse momentum and invariant mass of the pairs for Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. The dilepton productions from quark gluon plasma (QGP) and hot hadrons have been considered including the spectral change of light vector mesons in the thermal bath. The space time evolution has been carried out within the frame work of 2+1 dimensional ideal hydrodynamics with lattice+hadron resonance gas equation of state. We find that a judicious selection of invariant mass(M) and transverse momentum (p_T) windows can be used to extract the collective properties of quark matter, hadronic matter and also get a distinct signature of medium effects on vector mesons. Our results indicate a reduction of elliptic flow (v_2) for M beyond phi mass, which if observed experimentally would give the measure of v_2 of the partonic phase.

Soft gluon multiplicity distribution revisited

In this paper the soft gluon radiation from partonic interaction of the type: $2 \to 2$ + gluon has been revisited and a correction term to the widely used Gunion-Bertsch (GB) formula is obtained.
