Search for new light vector boson using $J/Ψ$ at BESIII and Belle II

We investigate various search strategies for light vector boson $X$ in $\mathcal{O}(10)~{\rm MeV}$ mass range using $J/Ψ$ associated channels at BESIII and Belle II: (i) $J/Ψ\to η_c X$ with $10^{10} J/Ψ$s at BESIII, (ii) $J/Ψ(η_c +X) +\ell \bar{\ell}$ production at Belle~II, and (iii) $J/Ψ+X$ with the displaced vertex in $X\to e^+e^-$ decay are analyzed and the future sensitivities at Belle II with 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ luminosity are comprehensively studied. By requiring the displaced vertex to be within the beam pipe, the third method results in nearly background-free analysis, and the vector boson-electron coupling and the vector boson mass can be probed in the unprecedented range, $10^{-4}\leq |\varepsilon_e| \leq 10^{-3}$ and $9~{\rm MeV}\leq m_X\leq 100 {\rm MeV}$ with 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ at Belle II. This covers the favored signal region of $^8{\rm Be}^*$ anomaly recently reported by Atomki experiment with $m_X \simeq 17~{\rm MeV}$.

Spontaneous Leptogenesis in Higgs Inflation

We propose a scenario of spontaneous leptogenesis in Higgs inflation with help from two additional operators: the Weinberg operator (Dim 5) and the derivative coupling of the Higgs field and the current of lepton number (Dim 6). The former is responsible for lepton number violation and the latter induces chemical potential for lepton number. The period of rapidly changing Higgs field, naturally realized in Higgs inflation during the reheating, allows large enhancement in the produced asymmetry in lepton number, which is eventually converted into baryon asymmetry of the universe. This scenario is compatible with high reheating temperature of Higgs inflation model.

Cosmic-Neutrino-Boosted Dark Matter ($ν$BDM)

A novel mechanism of boosting dark matter by cosmic neutrinos is proposed. The new mechanism is so significant that the arriving flux of dark matter in the mass window $1~{\rm keV} \lesssim m_{\rm DM} \lesssim 1~{\rm MeV}$ on Earth can be enhanced by two to four orders of magnitude compared to one only by cosmic electrons. Thereby we firstly derive conservative but still stringent bounds and future sensitivity limits for such cosmic-neutrino-boosted dark matter ($ν$BDM) from advanced underground experiments such as Borexino, PandaX, XENON1T, and JUNO.

Primordial Black Holes in Higgs-$R^2$ Inflation as a Whole Dark Matter

Primordial black holes are produced in a minimal UV extension to the Higgs inflation with an included $R^2$ term. We show that for parameters consistent with Standard Model measurements and Planck observation results lead to $M_{\rm PBH} \in (10^{-16}, 10^{-15}) M_\odot$ primordial black holes with significant abundance, which may consist the majority of dark matter.

Leptonic New Force and Cosmic-ray Boosted Dark Matter for the XENON1T Excess

The recently reported excess in XENON1T is explained by new leptonic forces, which are free from gauge anomalies. We focus on two scenarios with and without dark matter. In Scenario #1, the gauge boson of gauged lepton number U(1)$_{L_e-L_j}$, $j=μ$ or $τ$ provides non-standard interaction between solar neutrino and electron that enhances the number of electron recoil events in the XENON1T detector. In Scenario #2, the new gauge boson exclusively couples to electron and dark matter, then cosmic-ray electrons can transfer their momenta to dark matter in halo. The boosted dark matter generates the electron recoil signals of ${\cal O}(1)$ keV. The dark matter, aided by the new gauge interaction, efficiently heats up a neutron star in our Galaxy more than $\sim1500$ K as a neutron star captures the halo dark matter. Therefore, we propose to utilize the future infrared telescope to test our scenario.

Search for sterile neutrino with light gauge interactions: recasting collider, beam-dump, and neutrino telescope searches

We investigate features of the sterile neutrinos in the presence of a light gauge boson $X^μ$ that couples to the neutrino sector. The novel bounds on the active-sterile neutrino mixings $| U_{\ell 4} |^2$, especially for tau flavor ($l = τ$), from various collider and fixed target experiments are explored. Also, taking into account the additional decay channel of the sterile neutrino into a light gauge boson ($ν_4 \to ν_\ell e^+ e^-$), we explore and constrain a parameter space for low energy excess in neutrino oscillation experiments.

Beyond the Starobinsky model for inflation

We single out the Starobinsky model and its extensions among generic $f(R)$ gravity as attractors at large field values for chaotic inflation. Treating a $R^3$ curvature term as a perturbation of the Starobinsky model, we impose the phenomenological bounds on the additional term satisfying the successful inflationary predictions. We find that the scalar spectral index can vary in both the red or blue tilted direction, depending on the sign of the coefficient of the $R^3$ term, whereas the tensor-to-scalar ratio is less affected in the Planck-compatible region. We also discuss the role of higher order curvature term for stability and the reheating dynamics for the unambiguous prediction for the number of efoldings up to the $R^3$ term.

Higgs inflation in metric and Palatini formalisms: Required suppression of higher dimensional operators

We investigate the sensitivity of Higgs(-like) inflation to higher dimensional operators in the nonminimal couplings and in the potential, both in the metric and Palatini formalisms. We find that, while inflationary predictions are relatively stable against the higher dimensional operators around the attractor point in the metric formalism, they are extremely sensitive in the Palatini one: for the latter, inflationary predictions are spoiled by $|ξ_4| \gtrsim 10^{-6}$ in the nonminimal couplings $(ξ_2 ϕ^2 + ξ_4 ϕ^4 + \cdots)R$, or by $|λ_6| \gtrsim 10^{-16}$ in the Jordan-frame potential $λ_4 ϕ^4 + λ_6 ϕ^6 + \cdots$ (both in Planck units). This extreme sensitivity results from the absence of attractor in the Palatini formalism. Our study underscores the challenge of realizing inflationary models with the nonminimal coupling in the Palatini formalism.

Light gauge boson interpretation for $(g-2)_μ$ and the $K_L \rightarrow π^0 + \text{(invisible)}$ anomaly at the J-PARC KOTO experiment

We discuss a list of possible light gauge boson interpretations for the long-standing experimental anomaly in $(g-2)_μ$ and also recent anomalous excess in $K_L \rightarrow π^0 + \text{(invisible)}$ events at the J-PARC KOTO experiment. We consider two models: $i$) $L_μ- L_τ$ gauge boson with heavy vector-like quarks and $ii$) $(L_μ- L_τ) + ε(B_3 - L_τ)$ gauge boson in the presence of right-handed neutrinos. When the light gauge boson has mass close to the neutral pion in order to satisfy the Grossman-Nir bound, the models successfully explain the anomalies simultaneously while satisfying all known experimental constraints. We extensively provide the future prospect of suggested models.

On the violent preheating in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ inflationary model

It has been argued that the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model acts as the UV extension of the Higgs inflation, pushing up its cut-off scale in the vacuum close up to the Planck scale. In this letter, we study the inflaton oscillation stage after inflation, focusing on the effective mass of the phase direction of the Higgs field, which can cause a violent preheating process. We find that the "spikes" in the effective mass of the phase direction observed in the Higgs inflation still appear in the mixed Higgs-$R^2$ model. While the spikes appear above the cut-off scale in the Higgs-only case, they appear below the cut-off scale when the model is extended with $R^2$ term though reheating cannot be completed in the violent particle production regime since the spikes get milder.

Search for muon-philic new light gauge boson at Belle II

Motivated by the long-lasting $3.5σ$ discrepancy in the anomalous magnetic moment of muon, we consider a new muon-specific force mediated by a light gauge boson, $X$, with mass $m_X < 2m_μ$ and the coupling constant $g_X \sim (10^{-4}, 10^{-3})$. We show that the Belle~II experiment has a robust chance to probe such a light boson in $e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- + X$ channel and cover the most interesting parameter space explaining the discrepancy with the planned target luminosity, $\int dt \ {\cal L}=50~{\rm ab^{-1}}$. The clean signal of muon-pair plus missing energy at Belle II can be a smoking gun for the new gauge boson. We expect that the (invisibly decaying) muon-philic light ($m_X \leq 2 m_μ$) gauge boson can be probed down to $g_X \geq 1.5 \times 10^{-4} \ (4.6 \times 10^{-4}, \ 2.3 \times 10^{-4})$ for 50 (1, 10) ab${}^{-1}$ search.

Timing information at HL-LHC: Complete determination of masses of Dark Matter and Long lived particle

A long standing problem in kinematics at the hadron colliders is to determine the mass of invisible particles. This issue is particularly important for the signals of dark matter, which becomes one of the prominent targets of future collider experiments. In this paper, we show that the additional information from the precise timing measurement, which will be available at the planned high-liminosity run of the LHC (HL-LHC), will shade new light on the kinematics study. As a concrete example, we focus on the signal of the pair produced long-lived particles ($LLP_{1,2}$), respectively leaving displaced vertex with visible ($V_{1,2}$) and invisible ($I_{1,2}$) final state, $pp \to LLP_1+LLP_2 \to (V_1+I_1)+(V_2+I_2)$. We explicitly show that this system is completely solvable with timing information.

Clockwork inflation with non-minimal coupling

We suggest a clockwork mechanism for a Higgs-like inflation with the non-minimal coupling term $ξϕ^2 R$. The seemingly unnatural ratio of parameters, $λ/ξ^2 \sim 10^{-10}$ of the self quartic coupling of the inflaton, $λ$, and the non-minimal coupling, $ξ$, is understood by exponential suppression of $λ$ by the clockwork mechanism, instead of a large non-minimal coupling. The portal interaction between the inflaton and the Standard Model (SM) Higgs doublet is introduced as a source of reheating and the inflaton mass. Successful realization of inflation requires that the inflaton gets a mass around (sub) GeV scale, which would lead to observable consequences depending on reheating process and its lifetime.

Hillclimbing inflation in metric and Palatini formulations

A new setup of cosmic inflation with a periodic inflaton potential and conformal factor is discussed in the metric and Palatini formulations of gravity. As a concrete example, we focus on a natural-inflation-like inflaton potential, and show that the inflationary predictions fall into the allowed region of cosmic microwave background observations in both formulations.

Exact Greybody Factors for the Brane Scalar Field of Five-dimensional Rotating Black Holes

We study scalar perturbations of the five-dimensional rotating black holes and find an exact solution giving exact description of the Hawking radiation. Mathematically, the full solution for this s-wave mode is expressed in terms of the prolate spheroidal wave function with complex parameters. By using the spheroidal joining factor, we write the corresponding boundary condition and greybody factors. We also check that the exact result reproduces the low frequency limit of the greybody factor and shows good agreement with the known numerical results.

Higgs Inflation and the Refined dS Conjecture

The refined de Sitter derivative conjecture provides constraints to potentials that are low energy effective theories of quantum gravity. It can give direct bounds on inflationary scenarios and determine whether the theory is in the Landscape or the Swampland. We consider the `Higgs inflation' scenario taking the refined de Sitter derivative conjecture into account. Obtaining the critical lines for the potential, we find a conjecture parameter space in which the `Higgs inflation' is to be in the Landscape. Comparing with the model independent observational bounds from recent data we find that the observational bounds represent the Higgs inflation can be in the Landscape.

Angular distribution as an effective probe of new physics in semi-hadronic three-body meson decays

We analyze, in a fully model-independent manner, the effects of new physics on a few semi-hadronic three-body meson decays of the type $P_i \to P_f f_1 f_2$, where $P_i$, $P_f$ are well chosen pseudo-scalar mesons and $f_{1,2}$ denote fermions out of which at least one gets detected in experiments. We find that the angular distribution of events of these decays can probe many interesting new physics, such as the nature of the intermediate particle that can cause lepton-flavor violation, or presence of heavy sterile neutrino, or new intermediate particles, or new interactions. We also provide angular asymmetries which can quantify the effects of new physics in these decays. We illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology with a few well chosen decay modes showing effects of certain new physics possibilities without any hadronic uncertainties.
