Estimates on the number of eigenvalues of two-particle discrete Schrödinger operators

Two-particle discrete Schrödinger operators $H(k)=H_{0}(k)-V$ on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3,$ $k$ being the two-particle quasi-momentum, are considered. An estimate for the number of the eigenvalues lying outside of the band of $H_{0}(k)$ via the number of eigenvalues of the potential operator $V$ bigger than the width of the band of $H_{0}(k)$ is obtained. The existence of non negative eigenvalues below the band of $H_{0}(k)$ is proven for nontrivial values of the quasi-momentum $k\in \T^3\equiv (-π,π]^3$, provided that the operator H(0) has either a zero energy resonance or a zero eigenvalue. It is shown that the operator $H(k), k\in \T^3,$ has infinitely many eigenvalues accumulating at the bottom of the band from below if one of the coordinates $k^{(j)},j=1,2,3,$ of $k\in \T^3$ is $π.$

The number of eigenvalues for an Hamiltonian in Fock space

A model operator $H$ corresponding to the energy operator of a system with non-conserved number $n\leq 3$ of particles is considered. The precise location and structure of the essential spectrum of $H$ is described. The existence of infinitely many eigenvalues below the bottom of the essential spectrum of $H$ is proved if the generalized Friedrichs model has a virtual level at the bottom of the essential spectrum and for the number $N(z)$ of eigenvalues below $z<0$ an asymptotics established. The finiteness of eigenvalues of $H$ below the bottom of the essential spectrum is proved if the generalized Friedrichs model has a zero eigenvalue at the bottom of its essential spectrum.

On the essential and discrete spectrum of a model operator related to three-particle discrete Schrödinger operators

A model operator $H$ corresponding to a three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator on a lattice $\Z^3$ is studied. The essential spectrum is described via the spectrum of two Friedrichs models with parameters $h_α(p),$ $α=1,2,$ $p \in \T^3=(-π,π]^3.$ The following results are proven: 1) The operator $H$ has a finite number of eigenvalues lying below the bottom of the essential spectrum in any of the following cases: (i) both operators $h_α(0), α=1,2,$ have a zero eigenvalue; (ii) either $h_1(0)$ or $h_2(0)$ has a zero eigenvalue. 2) The operator $H$ has infinitely many eigenvalues lying below the bottom and accumulating at the bottom of the essential spectrum, if both operators $h_α(0),α=1,2,$ have a zero energy resonance.

The Threshold effects for the two-particle Hamiltonians on lattices

For a wide class of two-body energy operators $h(k)$ on the three-dimensional lattice $\bbZ^3$, $k$ being the two-particle quasi-momentum, we prove that if the following two assumptions (i) and (ii) are satisfied, then for all nontrivial values $k$, $k\ne 0$, the discrete spectrum of $h(k)$ below its threshold is non-empty. The assumptions are: (i) the two-particle Hamiltonian $h(0)$ corresponding to the zero value of the quasi-momentum has either an eigenvalue or a virtual level at the bottom of its essential spectrum and (ii) the one-particle free Hamiltonians in the coordinate representation generate positivity preserving semi-groups.

On the reconstruction of the drift of a diffusion from transition probabilities which are partially observed in space

The problem of reconstructing the drift of a diffusion in $\erre^d$, $d\geq 2$, from the transition probability density observed outside a domain is considered. The solution of this problem also solves a new inverse problem for a class of parabolic partial differential equations. This work considerably extends \cite{jsp} in terms of generality, both concerning assumptions on the drift coefficient, and allowing for non-constant diffusion coefficient. Sufficient conditions for solvability of this type of inverse problem for $d=1$ are also given.

A model for urban growth processes with continuum state cellular automata and related differential equations

A new kind of cellular automaton (CA) for the study of the dynamics of urban systems is proposed. The state of a cell is not described using a finite set, but by means of continuum variables. A population sector is included, taking into account migration processes from and towards the external world. The transport network is considered through an integration index describing the capability of the network to interconnect the different parts of the city. The time evolution is given by Poisson distributed stochastic jumps affecting the dynamical variables, with intensities depending on the configuration of the system in a suitable set of neighbourhoods. The intensities of the Poisson processes are given in term of a set of potentials evaluated applying fuzzy logic to a practical method frequently used in Switzerland to evaluate the attractiveness of a terrain for different land uses and the related rents. The use of a continuum state space enables one to write a system of differential equations for the time evolution of the CA and thus to study the system from a dynamical systems theory perspective. This makes it possible, in particular, to look systematically for bifurcations and phase transitions in CA based models of urban systems.

On Markovian behaviour of $p$-adic random dynamical systems

We study Markovian and non-Markovian behaviour of stochastic processes generated by $p$-adic random dynamical systems. Given a family of $p$-adic monomial random mappings generating a random dynamical system. Under which conditions do the orbits under such a random dynamical system form Markov chains? It is necessary that the mappings are Markov dependent. We show, however, that this is in general not sufficient. In fact, in many cases we have to require that the mappings are independent. Moreover we investigate some geometric and algebraic properties for $p-$adic monomial mappings as well as for the $p-$adic power function which are essential to the formation of attractors. $p$-adic random dynamical systems can be useful in so called $p$-adic quantum phytsics as well as in some cognitive models.

On the structure of the essential spectrum of the three-particle Schrödinger operators on a lattice

A system of three quantum particles on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ with arbitrary "dispersion functions" having non-compact support and interacting via short-range pair potentials is considered. The energy operators of the systems of the two-and three-particles on the lattice $\Z^3$ in the coordinate and momentum representations are described as bounded self-adjoint operators on the corresponding Hilbert spaces. For all sufficiently small nonzero values of the two-particle quasi-momentum $k\in (-π,π]^3$ the finiteness of the number of eigenvalues of the two-particle discrete Schrödinger operator $h_α(k)$ below the continuous spectrum is established. A location of the essential spectrum of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator $H(K),K\in (-π,π]^3$ the three-particle quasi-momentum, by means of the spectrum of $h_α(k)$ is described. It is established that the essential spectrum of $H(K), K\in (-π,π]^3$ consists of a finitely many bounded closed intervals.

Schrödinger operators on lattices. The Efimov effect and discrete spectrum asymptotics

The Hamiltonian of a system of three quantum mechanical particles moving on the three-dimensional lattice $\Z^3$ and interacting via zero-range attractive potentials is considered. For the two-particle energy operator $h(k),$ with $k\in \T^3=(-π,π]^3$ the two-particle quasi-momentum, the existence of a unique positive eigenvalue below the bottom of the continuous spectrum of $h(k)$ for $k\neq0$ is proven, provided that $h(0)$ has a zero energy resonance. The location of the essential and discrete spectra of the three-particle discrete Schrödinger operator $H(K), K\in \T^3$ being the three-particle quasi-momentum, is studied. The existence of infinitely many eigenvalues of H(0) is proven. It is found that for the number $N(0,z)$ of eigenvalues of H(0) lying below $z<0$ the following limit exists $$ \lim_{z\to 0-} \frac {N(0,z)}{\mid \log\mid z\mid\mid}=\cU_0 $$ with $\cU_0>0$. Moreover, for all sufficiently small nonzero values of the three-particle quasi-momentum $K$ the finiteness of the number $ N(K,τ_{ess}(K))$ of eigenvalues of $H(K)$ below the essential spectrum is established and the asymptotics for the number $N(K,0)$ of eigenvalues lying below zero is given.

A model of the term structure of interest rates based on Lévy fields

An extension of the Heath--Jarrow--Morton model for the development of instantaneous forward interest rates with deterministic coefficients and Gaussian as well as Lévy field noise terms is given. In the special case where the Lévy field is absent, one recovers a model discussed by D.P.~Kennedy.

Nonlocal Properties and Local Invariants for Bipartite Systems

The nonlocal properties for a kind of generic N-dimensional bipartite quantum systems are investigated. A complete set of invariants under local unitary transformations is presented. It is shown that two generic density matrices are locally equivalent if and only if all these invariants have equal values in these density matrices.

Integrable Lattice Systems and Markov Processes

Lattice systems with certain Lie algebraic or quantum Lie algebraic symmetries are constructed. These symmetric models give rise to series of integrable systems. As examples the $A_n$-symmetric chain models and the SU(2)-invariant ladder models are investigated. It is shown that corresponding to these $A_n$-symmetric chain models and SU(2)-invariant ladder models there are exactly solvable stationary discrete-time (resp. continuous-time) Markov chains with transition matrices (resp. intensity matrices) having spectra which coincide with the ones of the corresponding integrable models.

Optimal Teleportation Based on Bell Measurement

We study optimal teleportation based on the Bell measurements. An explicit expression for the quantum channel associated with the optimal teleportation with an arbitrary mixed state resource is presented. The optimal transmission fidelity of the corresponding quantum channel is calculated and shown to be related to the fully entangled fraction of the quantum resource, rather than the singlet fraction as in the standard teleportation protocol.

A Remark on the structure of symmetric quantum dynamical semigroups on von Neumann algebras

We study the structure of the generator of a symmetric, conservative quantum dynamical semigroup with norm-bounded generator on a von Neumann algebra equipped with a faithful semifinite trace. For von Neumann algebras with abelian commutant (i.e. type I von Neumann algebras), we give a necessary and sufficient algebraic condition for the generator of such a semigroup to be written as a sum of square of self-adjoint derivations of the von Neumann algebra. This generalizes some of the results obtained by Albeverio, H(phi)egh-Krohn and Olsen [Alb] for the special case of the finite dimensional matrix algebras. We also study similar questions for a class of quantum dynamical semigroups with unbounded generators.

Graph Subspaces and the Spectral Shift Function

We extend the concept of Lifshits--Krein spectral shift function associated with a pair of self-adjoint operators to the case of pairs of admissible operators that are similar to self-adjoint operators. Our main result is the following. Let \cH_0 and \cH_1 be separable Hilbert spaces, A_0 a self-adjoint operator in \cH_0, A_1 a self-adjoint operator in \cH_1, and B_{ij} a bounded operator from \cH_j to \cH_i, i=0,1, j=1-i, and B_10=B_01^*. Assume that the block operator matrix \bH=\bA+\bB=(A_0 & B_01 B_{10}& A_1) has reducing graph subspaces of the form {x_i\oplus Q_ji x_i: x_i\in\cH_i}, i=0,1, j=1-i, and Q_ji are Hilbert-Schmidt operators such that Q_ji=-Q_ij^*. If both (\bH-z\bI)^{-1}-(\bA-z\bI)^{-1} and \bB\bQ(\bA-z\bI)^{-1} are trace class operators in \cH for \Img(z)\neq 0, then the operators A_i+B_ij Q_ji and A_i, i=0,1, j=1-i, acting in the spaces \cH_i are resolvent comparable admissible operators. Moreover, the spectral shift function ξ(x,\bH,\bA) associated with the pair (\bH,\bA) admits the representation ξ(x,\bH,\bA)=ξ(x,A_0+B_01 Q_10,A_0)+ ξ(x,A_1+B_10 Q_01,A_1). We also obtain new representations for the solution to the operator Sylvester equation in the form of Stieltjes operator integrals and formulate sufficient criterion for the strong solvability of the operator Riccati equation that ensures the existence of reducing graph subspaces for block operator matrices.

A nonseparability inequality is also presented, for the case where one of the eigenvectors corresponding to nonzero eigenvalues is a maximally entangled state.

Integrable Stochastic Ladder Models

A general way to construct ladder models with certain Lie algebraic or quantum Lie algebraic symmetries is presented. These symmetric models give rise to series of integrable systems. It is shown that corresponding to these SU(2) symmetric integrable ladder models there are exactly solvable stationary discrete-time (resp. continuous-time) Markov processes with transition matrices (resp. intensity matrices) having spectra which coincide with the ones of the corresponding integrable models.
