Tetrahedron genuine entanglement measure of four-qubit systems

Quantifying genuine entanglement is a key task in quantum information theory. We study the quantification of genuine multipartite entanglement for four-qubit systems. Based on the concurrence of nine different classes of four-qubit states, with each class being closed under stochastic local operation and classical communication, we construct a concurrence tetrahedron. Proper genuine four-qubit entanglement measure is presented by using the volume of the concurrence tetrahedron. For non genuine entangled pure states, the four-qubit entanglement measure classifies the bi-separable entanglement. We show that the concurrence tetrahedron based measure of genuine four-qubit entanglement is not equivalent to the genuine four-partite entanglement concurrence. We illustrate the advantages of the concurrence tetrahedron by detailed examples.

Parameterized coherence measure

Quantifying coherence is an essential endeavor for both quantum mechanical foundations and quantum technologies. We present a bona fide measure of quantum coherence by utilizing the Tsallis relative operator $(α, β)$-entropy. We first prove that the proposed coherence measure fulfills all the criteria of a well defined coherence measure, including the strong monotonicity in the resource theories of quantum coherence. We then study the ordering of the Tsallis relative operator $(α, β)$-entropy of coherence, Tsallis relative $α$-entropies of coherence, Rényi $α$-entropy of coherence and $l_{1}$ norm of coherence for both pure and mixed qubit states. This provides a new method for defining new coherence measure and entanglement measure, and also provides a new idea for further study of quantum coherence.

Discrimination of Coherent States via Atom-Field Interaction without Rotation Wave Approximation

The quantum state discrimination is an important part of quantum information processing. We investigate the discrimination of coherent states through Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model interaction between the field and the ancilla without rotation wave approximation (RWA). We show that the minimum failure probability can be reduced as RWA is eliminated from JC model and the non-RWA terms accompanied by the quantum effects of fields (e.g. the virtual photon process in the JC model without RWA) can enhance the state discrimination. The JC model without RWA for unambiguous state discrimination is superior to ambiguous state discrimination, particularly when the number of sequential measurements increases. Unambiguous state discrimination implemented via the non-RWA JC model is beneficial to saving resource cost.

Device-independent randomness based on a tight upper bound of the maximal quantum value of chained inequality

The violation of Bell inequality not only provides the most radical departure of quantum theory from classical concepts, but also paves the way of applications in such as device independent randomness certification. Here, we derive the tight upper bound of the maximum quantum value for chained Bell inequality with arbitrary number of measurements on each party. \lxh{ The constraints where the upper bound saturates are also presented. This method provides us the necessary and sufficient conditions for some quantum states to violate the chained Bell inequality with arbitrary number of measurements}. Based on the tight upper bound we present the lower bounds on the device independent randomness with respect to the Werner states. \lxh{In particular, we present lower bounds on the randomness generation rates of chained Bell inequality for different number of measurements, which are compared with the family of Bell inequalities proposed by Wooltorton et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 150403 (2022)]. Our results show that chained Bell inequality with three measurements has certain advantages at a low level of noise and could be used to improve randomness generation rates in practice.

Quantum compiling with a variational instruction set for accurate and fast quantum computing

The quantum instruction set (QIS) is defined as the quantum gates that are physically realizable by controlling the qubits in quantum hardware. Compiling quantum circuits into the product of the gates in a properly defined QIS is a fundamental step in quantum computing. We here propose the quantum variational instruction set (QuVIS) formed by flexibly designed multi-qubit gates for higher speed and accuracy of quantum computing. The controlling of qubits for realizing the gates in a QuVIS is variationally achieved using the fine-grained time optimization algorithm. Significant reductions in both the error accumulation and time cost are demonstrated in realizing the swaps of multiple qubits and quantum Fourier transformations, compared with the compiling by a standard QIS such as the quantum microinstruction set (QuMIS, formed by several one- and two-qubit gates including one-qubit rotations and controlled-NOT gates). With the same requirement on quantum hardware, the time cost for QuVIS is reduced to less than one half of that for QuMIS. Simultaneously, the error is suppressed algebraically as the depth of the compiled circuit is reduced. As a general compiling approach with high flexibility and efficiency, QuVIS can be defined for different quantum circuits and be adapted to the quantum hardware with different interactions.

Monogamy of entanglement for tripartite systems

We study the monogamy of arbitrary quantum entanglement measures $E$ for tripartite quantum systems. Both sufficient and necessary conditions for $E$ to be monogamous in terms of the $α$th power of $E$ are explicitly derived. It is shown that such monogamy of a entanglement measure $E$ only depends on the boundedness of the solution set of certain equations. Moreover, the monogamy conditions have been also obtained with respect to certain subsets of quantum states for a given quantum correlation. Detailed examples are given to illustrate our results.

Characterizing the superposition of arbitrary random quantum states and a known quantum state

The superposition of states is one of the most fundamental issues in the quantum world. Generally there do not exist physical operations to superpose two unknown random states with nonzero probability. We investigate the superposition problem of unknown qubit states with respect to a known qubit state. It is shown that under trace-nonincreasing completely positive operations the superposable state sets are located in some circles on the Bloch sphere. Meanwhile, we prove that the quantum states in a circle on the Bloch sphere are superposable with respect to a known state. Finally, for the high-dimensional case, we illustrate that any superposition transformation protocols will violate the no-cloning principle for almost all the states. Our results also promote the understanding and applications of the superposition principle in view of quantum no-go theorems.

Bounds on positive operator-valued measure based coherence of superposition

Quantum coherence is a fundamental feature of quantum physics and plays a significant role in quantum information processing. By generalizing the resource theory of coherence from von Neumann measurements to positive operator-valued measures (POVMs), POVM-based coherence measures have been proposed with respect to the relative entropy of coherence, the $l_1$ norm of coherence, the robustness of coherence and the Tsallis relative entropy of coherence. We derive analytically the lower and upper bounds on these POVM-based coherence of an arbitrary given superposed pure state in terms of the POVM-based coherence of the states in superposition. Our results can be used to estimate range of quantum coherence of superposed states. Detailed examples are presented to verify our analytical bounds.

One-Way Deficit and Holevo Quantity of Generalized $n$-qubit Werner State

Originated from the work extraction in quantum systems coupled to a heat bath, quantum deficit is a kind of significant quantum correlations like quantum entanglement. It links quantum thermodynamics with quantum information. We analytically calculate the one-way deficit of the generalized $n$-qubit Werner state. We find that the one-way deficit increases as the mixing probability $p$ increases for any $n$. For fixed $p$, we observe that the one-way deficit increases as $n$ increases. For any $n$, the maximum of one-way deficit is attained at $p=1$. Furthermore, for large $n$ ($2^n \rightarrow \infty$), we prove that the curve of one-way deficit versus $p$ approaches to a straight line with slope $1$. We also calculate the Holevo quantity for the generalized $n$-qubit Werner state, and show that it is zero.

A Family of Bipartite Separability Criteria Based on Bloch Representation of Density Matrices

We study the separability of bipartite quantum systems in arbitrary dimensions based on the Bloch representation of density matrices. We present two separability criteria for quantum states in terms of the matrices $T_{αβ}(ρ)$ and $W_{ab,αβ}(ρ)$ constructed from the correlation tensors in the Bloch representation. These separability criteria can be simplified and detect more entanglement than the previous separability criteria. Detailed examples are given to illustrate the advantages of results.

Assisted quantum simulation of open quantum systems

Universal quantum algorithms (UQA) implemented on fault-tolerant quantum computers are expected to achieve an exponential speedup over classical counterparts. However, the deep quantum circuits makes the UQA implausible in the current era. With only the noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices in hand, we introduce the quantum-assisted quantum algorithm, which reduces the circuit depth of UQA via NISQ technology. Based on this framework, we present two quantum-assisted quantum algorithms for simulating open quantum systems, which utilize two parameterized quantum circuits to achieve a short-time evolution. We propose a variational quantum state preparation method, as a subroutine to prepare the ancillary state, for loading a classical vector into a quantum state with a shallow quantum circuit and logarithmic number of qubits. We demonstrate numerically our approaches for a two-level system with an amplitude damping channel and an open version of the dissipative transverse field Ising model on two sites.

Parameterized Multi-observable Sum Uncertainty Relations

The uncertainty principle is one of the fundamental features of quantum mechanics and plays an essential role in quantum information theory. We study uncertainty relations based on variance for arbitrary finite $N$ quantum observables. We establish a series of parameterized uncertainty relations in terms of the parameterized norm inequalities, which improve the exiting variance-based uncertainty relations. The lower bounds of our uncertainty inequalities are non-zero unless the measured state is a common eigenvector of all the observables. Detailed examples are provided to illustrate the tightness of our uncertainty relations.

Quantum $k$-uniform states from quantum orthogonal arrays

The quantum orthogonal arrays define remarkable classes of multipartite entangled states called $k$-uniform states whose every reductions to $k$ parties are maximally mixed. We present constructions of quantum orthogonal arrays of strength 2 with levels of prime power, as well as some constructions of strength 3. As a consequence, we give infinite classes of 2-uniform states of $N$ systems with dimension of prime power $d\geq 2$ for arbitrary $N\geq 5$; 3-uniform states of $N$-qubit systems for arbitrary $N\geq 6$ and $N\neq 7,8,9,11$; 3-uniform states of $N$ systems with dimension of prime power $d\geq 7$ for arbitrary $N\geq 7$.

A note on uncertainty relations of metric-adjusted skew information

The uncertainty principle is one of the fundamental features of quantum mechanics and plays a vital role in quantum information processing. We study uncertainty relations based on metric-adjusted skew information for finite quantum observables. Motivated by the paper [Physical Review A 104, 052414 (2021)], we establish tighter uncertainty relations in terms of different norm inequalities. Naturally, we generalize the method to uncertainty relations of metric-adjusted skew information for quantum channels and unitary operators. As both the Wigner-Yanase-Dyson skew information and the quantum Fisher information are the special cases of the metric-adjusted skew information corresponding to different Morozova-Chentsov functions, our results generalize some existing uncertainty relations. Detailed examples are given to illustrate the advantages of our methods.

Unified multivariate trace estimation and quantum error mitigation

Calculating the trace of the product of $m$ $n$-qubit density matrices (multivariate trace) is a crucial subroutine in quantum error mitigation and information measures estimation. We propose an unified multivariate trace estimation (UMT) which conceptually unifies the previous qubit-optimal and depth-optimal approaches with tunable quantum circuit depth and the number of qubits. The constructed circuits have $\lceil(m-1)/s\rceil$ or $n\lceil(m-1)/s\rceil$ depth corresponding to $(s+m)n$ or $s+mn$ qubits for $s\in\{1,\cdots,\lfloor m/2\rfloor\}$, respectively. Such flexible circuit structures enable people to choose suitable circuits according different hardware devices. We apply UMT to virtual distillation for achieving exponential error suppression and design a family of concrete circuits to calculate the trace of the product of $8$ and $9$ $n$-qubit density matrices. Numerical example shows that the additional circuits still mitigate the noise expectation value under the global depolarizing channel.

Quantum entanglement generation on magnons assisted with microwave cavities coupled to a superconducting qubit

We present protocols to generate quantum entanglement on nonlocal magnons in hybrid systems composed of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) spheres, microwave cavities and a superconducting (SC) qubit. In the schemes, the YIGs are coupled to respective microwave cavities in resonant way, and the SC qubit is placed at the center of the cavities, which interacts with the cavities simultaneously. By exchanging the virtual photon, the cavities can indirectly interact in the far-detuning regime. Detailed protocols are presented to establish entanglement for two, three and arbitrary $N$ magnons with reasonable fidelities.

System-environment dynamics of GHZ-like states in noninertial frames

Quantum coherence, quantum entanglement and quantum nonlocality are important resources in quantum information precessing. However, decoherence happens when a quantum system interacts with the external environments. We study the dynamical evolution of the three-qubit GHZ-like states in non-inertial frame when one and/or two qubits undergo decoherence. Under the amplitude damping channel we show that the quantum decoherence and the Unruh effect may have quite different influences on the initial state. Moreover, the genuine tripartite entanglement and the quantum coherence may suffer sudden death during the evolution. The quantum coherence is most resistent to the quantum decoherence and the Unruh effect, then comes the quantum entanglement and the quantum nonlocality which is most fragile among the three. The results provide a new research perspective for relativistic quantum informatics.

Nonlocality without entanglement in general multipartite quantum systems

The construction of nonlocal sets of quantum states has attracted much attention in recent years. We first introduce two Lemmas related to the triviality of orthogonality-preserving local measurements. Then we propose a general construction of nonlocal set of $n(d-1)+1$ orthogonal product states in $(\mathbb{C}^{d})^{\otimes n}$. The sets of nonlocal orthogonal product states are also put forward for the multipartite quantum systems with arbitrary dimensions. Our novel construction gives rise to nonlocal sets of orthogonal product states with much less members and thus reveals the phenomenon of nonlocality without entanglement more efficiently.
