Quasinormal modes and absorption cross-section of a Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter in four dimensions

In this paper we study quasinormal modes and absorption cross sections for the $(1+3)$-dimensional Bardeen black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. Studies of the massless scalar field is already done in \cite{Sun:2023slzl}. Hence, in this paper we will focus on the massive scalar field perturbations and massless Dirac field perturbations. To compute the quasinormal modes we use the semi-analytical 3rd-order WKB method, which has been shown to be one of the best approaches when the effective potential is adequate and when $n < \ell$ and $n < \lambda$. We have also utilized the P\"oschl-Teller method to compare the valus obtained using the WKB approach. We have computed quasinormal frequencies by varying various parameters of the theory such as the mass of the scalar field $\mu$, dark matter parameter $\alpha$ and the magnetic charge $g$. We have summarized our solutions in tables and figures for clarity. As for the absorption cross section, we used third order WKB approach to compute reflection, transmission coefficients and partial absorption cross sections. Graphs are presented to demonstrate the behavior of the above quantities when the dark matter parameter and mass of the massive scalar field are varied.

Thermodynamics and the Joule-Thomson expansion of dilaton black holes in 2+1 dimensions

In this paper, we study thermodynamics and its applications of a family of static charged dilaton black holes in 2+1 dimensions found by Chan and Mann \cite{Chan:1994qa} and Xu \cite{Xu:2019pap}. There is a dimensionless parameter $N$ in the black hole solutions presented: it is related to the coupling constant for the dilaton with the electromagnetic field and the gravitational field. Black hole horizons exist only for $ \frac{2}{3} \leq N < 2$. $N =1$ black hole is a solution to low energy string theory. Thermodynamics is studied in the canonical ensemble where charge is constant as well as in grand canonical ensemble where the potential is constant. The cosmological constant is considered as a thermodynamical variable where the pressure $P = -\frac{\Lambda}{ 8 \pi}$. We computed the first law for the black hole and introduced new thermodynamical parameter in order to satisfy the first law. We computed temperature, thermodynamic volume, specific heat capacities, Gibbs free energy and studied local and global stability of the black hole. Thermodynamic volume differs from the geometric volume. In the canonical ensemble, we noticed that thermodynamic behavior falls into two broad categories: For $\frac{2}{3} \leq N < 1$, small black holes are locally stable and large black holes are not. For $ 1 \leq N < 2$ the black hole is locally and globally stable for all values of the horizon radius. In order to demonstrate the two broad categories, we have presented $N =1, \frac{2}{3}$ and $N = \frac{6}{7}$ black holes in detail. There were no phase transitions for the above values of $N$. In the grand canonical ensemble, we noticed that there is a Hawking-Page phase transition for the black hole with $N=6/5$. We have also studied the Joule-Thomson expansion and the Reverse Isoperimetric Inequality of these black holes...

Extreme Dilaton Black Holes in 2 +1 Dimensions: Quasinormal modes

We study neutral massless scalar field perturbations around an extreme dilaton black hole in 2 +1 dimensions: the wave equations of the massless scalar field is shown to be exactly solvable in terms of Whittaker functions. Thus, the quasinormal modes are computed exactly and shown to be purely imaginary: we show the existence of stable and unstable modes. Interestingly, the quasinormal modes do not depend on the black holes parameters and the fundamental mode is always unstable and depends only on the parameters of the test field. Also, we determine the quasinormal frequencies via the improved asymptotic iteration method which shows a good agreement with the analytical results.

Thermodynamics and Heat Engines of Black Holes with Born-Infeld-type Electrodynamics

In this paper we have studied electrically charged black holes in a new model of nonlinear electrodynamics introduced by Kruglov in Ref. [1]. There are two parameters for the theory and the black hole could have up to two horizons. Thermodynamics is studied in the extended phase space where the pressure is proportional to the cosmological constant. First law and the Smarr formula are derived. There are phase transitions similar to the Van der Waals liquid-gas phase transitions. Black hole is also studied as a heat engine and have discussed how the parameters in the nonlinear electrodynamics theory effect the efficiency of the heat engine.

Non-linear black holes in 2+1 dimensions as heat engines

In this paper we have studied two non-linear black holes in 2+1 dimensions. They are regular and could have two horizons for chosen values of the parameters in the theory. Thermodynamics of the two black holes are studied in the extended phase space where the pressure P = -Λ/8π. In order to satisfy the Smarr formula and the first law of thermodynamics, a renormalization parameter is introduced. Hence there is an additional thermodynamical parameter for the black hole. We have also studied the two black holes in the context of heat engines. A thermodynamical cycle, consisting of two isobaric and two isochoric is considered. Efficiency is computed by varying the non-linear parameter and the electric charge of the black hole. It is observed that when the non-linear parameter and the charge increases, the efficiency increases. When compared to the charged BTZ black hole, the efficiency for the rectangle cycle is smaller for the regular black holes.

Massive gravity with Lorentz symmetry breaking: black holes as heat engines

In extended phase space, a static black hole in massive gravity is studied as a holographic heat engine. In the massive gravity theory considered, the graviton gain a mass due to Lorentz symmetry breaking. Exact efficiency formula is obtained for a rectangle engine cycle for the black hole considered. The efficiency is computed by varying two parameters in the theory, the scalar charge Q and $λ$. The efficiency is compared with the Carnot efficiency for the heat engine. It is observed that when Q and $λ$ are increased that the efficiency for the rectangle cycle increases. When compared to the Schwarzschild AdS black hole, the efficiency for the rectangle cycle is larger for the Massive gravity black hole.

A Smarr formula for charged black holes in nonlinear electrodynamics

It is well known that the Smarr formula does not hold for black holes in non-linear electrodynamics. The main reason for this is the fact that the trace of the energy momentum tensor for nonlinear electrodynamics does not vanish as it is for Maxwell's electrodynamics. Starting from the Komar integral, we derived a new Smarr-type formula for spherically symmetric static electrically charged black hole solutions in nonlinear electrodynamics. We show that this general formula is in agreement with some that are obtained for black hole solutions with nonlinear electrodynamics.

Quasinormal modes and absorption cross sections of Born-Infeld-de Sitter black holes

In this paper, we have studied QNM modes and absorption cross sections of Born-Infeld-de Sitter black holes. WKB approximation is employed to compute the QNM modes of massless scalar fields. We have also used null geodesics to compute quasi-normal modes in the eikonal approximation. In the eikonal limit QNMs of black holes are determined by the parameters of the circular null geodesics. Unstable circular null orbits are derived from the effective metric which is obeyed by light rays under the influence of a nonlinear electromagnetic field. Comparison is shown with the QNM of the linear electromagnetic counterpart, the Reissner-Nordström black hole. Furthermore, the null geodesics are employed to compute the absorption cross sections in the high frequency limit via the sinc approximation.

Charged dilaton black hole in 2+1 dimensions as a particle accelerator

In this paper we have studied particle collisions around a charged dilaton black hole in 2+1 dimensions. This black hole is a solution to the low energy string action in 2+1 dimensions. Time-like geodesics for charged particles are studied in detail. The center of mass energy for two charged particles colliding closer to the horizon is calculated and shown to be infinite if one of the particles has the critical charge.

Spinning dilaton black hole in 2+1 dimensions as a particle accelerator

In this paper we have studied particle collision around a spinning dilaton black hole in 2 +1 dimensions. This black hole is a solution to the low energy string theory in 2+1 dimensions. Time-like geodesics are presented in detail and the center of mass energy of two particles collision at the horizon of a spinning black hole is considered. We noticed that there is a possibility of the two masses to create infinite center of mass energy.

Electromagnetic perturbations of a de Sitter black hole in massive gravity

The main purpose of this paper is to study quasinormal modes (QNM) of a black hole in massive gravity with a positive cosmological constant due to electromagnetic perturbations. A detailed study of the QNM frequencies for the electromagnetic field is done by varying the parameters of the theory such as the mass, scalar charge, cosmological constant, and the spherical harmonic index. We have employed the sixth order WKB approximation to calculate the QNM frequencies. The electromagnetic potential for the near extreme massive gravity de Sitter black hole is approximated with the P$\ddot{o}$schl-Teller potential to obtain exact frequencies. Our results show that the black hole is stable under electromagnetic perturbations. The null geodesics of the black hole in massive gravity is employed to describe the absorption cross sections at high-frequency limit.

Bardeen-de Sitter black holes

In this paper we present a regular black hole with a positive cosmological constant. The regular black hole considered is the well known Bardeen black hole and it is a solution to the Einstein equations coupled to non-linear electrodynamics with a magnetic monopole. The paper discuss the properties of the Bardeen-de Sitter black hole. We have computed the grey body factors and partial absorption cross sections for massless scalar field impinges on this black hole with the third order WKB approximation. A detailed discussion on how the behavior of the grey body factors depend on the parameters of the theory such as the mass, charge and the cosmological constant is given. Possible extensions of the work is discussed at the end of the paper.

P-V criticality in AdS black holes of massive gravity

In this paper we have studied the extended phase space thermodynamics in the canonical ensemble of black holes in massive gravity in AdS space. The black holes considered here belong to a theory of massive gravity where the graviton gain a mass due to Lorentz symmetry breaking. We have computed various thermodynamical quantities such as temperature, pressure, Gibbs free energy and specific heat capacity. The local and the global thermodynamical stability of the black holes are studied in detail. For a specific value of the parameter in the theory, the black holes undergo a first order phase transition similar to the Van der Waals phase transitions between gas and liquid under constant temperature. This transition is between the small and the large black hole. The critical exponents are computed at the critical values and shown to be the same as for the Van der Waals critical exponents.

Phase transitions of black holes in massive gravity

In this paper we have studied thermodynamics of a black hole in massive gravity in the canonical ensemble. The massive gravity theory in consideration here has a massive graviton due to Lorentz symmetry breaking. The black hole studied here has a scalar charge due to the massive graviton and is asymptotically anti-de Sitter. We have computed various thermodynamical quantities such as temperature, specific heat and free energy. Both the local and global stability of the black hole are studied by observing the behavior of the specific heat and the free energy. We have observed that there is a first order phase transition between small and large black hole for a certain range of the scalar charge. This phase transition is similar to the liquid/gas phase transition at constant temperature for a Van der Waals fluid. The coexistence curves for the small and large black hole branches are also discussed in detail.

Gravitational perturbation and quasi-normal modes of charged black holes in Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity

Born-Infeld electrodynamics has attracted considerable interest due to its relation to strings and D-branes. In this paper the gravitational perturbations of electrically charged black holes in Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity are studied. Effective potentials for axial perturbations are derived and discussed. The quasi normal modes for the gravitational perturbations are computed using the WKB method. The modes are compared with those of the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. The relation of the quasi normal modes with the non-linear parameter and the spherical index are also investigated. Comments on stability of the black hole and on future directions are made.

Stability and quasi-normal modes of charged black holes in Born-Infeld gravity

In this paper we study the stability and quasi-normal modes of scalar perturbations of black holes. The static charged black hole considered here is a solution to Born-Infeld electrodynamics coupled to gravity. We conclude that the black hole is stable. We also compare the stability of it with its linear counter-part Reissner-Nordstrom black hole. The quasi-normal modes are computed using the WKB method. The behavior of these modes with the non-linear parameter, temperature, mass of the scalar field and the spherical index are analyzed in detail.

Quasinormal modes of dilaton-de Sitter black holes: scalar perturbations

Dilaton black hole solutions in low energy string theory (well known as GMGHS black holes) have analogue black holes with a cosmological constant derived by Gao and Zhang. Here, we study quasi normal modes of this dilaton-de Sitter black hole under neutral scalar field perturbations. We have employed the sixth order WKB analysis to compute the quasi normal mode frequencies. A detailed study is done for the quasi normal mode frequencies by varying the parameters in the theory such as the mass, cosmological constant, dilaton charge and the spherical harmonic index. For the massive scalar field we observed that the usual quasi resonance modes that exists for asymptotically flat black holes do not exist for this particular black hole. We have approximated the scalar field potential of the near-extreme dilaton de Sitter black hole with the P$\ddot{o}$schl-Teller potential and have presented exact quasi normal frequencies.

Regular black holes in de Sitter universe: scalar field perturbations and quasinormal modes

The purpose of this paper is to study quasinormal modes (QNM) of a regular black hole with a cosmological constant due to scalar perturbations. A detailed study of the QNM frequencies for the massless scalar field were done by varying the parameters of the theory such as the mass, magnetic charge, cosmological constant, and the spherical harmonic index. We have employed the sixth order WKB approximation to compute the QNM frequencies. We have also proved analytically that the $l=0$ mode for the massless field reach a constant value at late times. We have approximated the near-extreme regular-de Sitter black hole potential with the P$\ddot{o}$schl-Teller potential to obtain exact frequencies. The null geodesics of the regular-de Sitter black hole is employed to describe the QNM frequencies at the eikonal limit ($ l >>1$).
