An End-to-End Neural Network Transceiver Design for OFDM System with FPGA-Accelerated Implementation

The evolution toward sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks demands high-performance transceiver architectures capable of handling complex and dynamic environments. Conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) receivers rely on cascaded discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and demodulation blocks, which are prone to inter-stage error propagation and suboptimal global performance. In this work, we propose two neural network (NN) models DFT-Net and Demodulation-Net (Demod-Net) to jointly replace the IDFT/DFT and demodulation modules in an OFDM transceiver. The models are trained end-to-end (E2E) to minimize bit error rate (BER) while preserving operator equivalence for hybrid deployment. A customized DFT-Demodulation Net Accelerator (DDNA) is further developed to efficiently map the proposed networks onto field-programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms. Leveraging fine-grained pipelining and block matrix operations, DDNA achieves high throughput and flexibility under stringent latency constraints. Experimental results show that the DL-based transceiver consistently outperforms the conventional OFDM system across multiple modulation schemes. With only a modest increase in hardware resource usage, it achieves approximately 1.5 dB BER gain and up to 66\% lower execution time.

Cooperative Base Station Assignment and Resource Allocation for 6G ISAC Network

In the upcoming 6G networks, integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) will be able to provide a performance boost in both perception and wireless connectivity. This paper considers a multiple base station (BS) architecture to support the comprehensive services of data transmission and multi-target sensing. In this context, a cooperative BS assignment and resource allocation (CBARA) strategy is proposed in this paper, aiming at jointly optimizing the communication and sensing (C&S) performance. The posterior Cramer-Rao lower bound and the achievable rate with respect to transmit power and bandwidth are derived and utilized as optimization criteria for the CBARA scheme. We develop a heuristic alternating optimization algorithm to obtain an effective sub-optimal solution for the non-convex optimization problem caused by multiple coupled variables. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the proposed solution, which achieves a performance improvement of 117% in communication rate and 40% in sensing accuracy, compared to the classic scheme.

Prototype: A Keyword Spotting-Based Intelligent Audio SoC for IoT

In this demo, we present a compact intelligent audio system-on-chip (SoC) integrated with a keyword spotting accelerator, enabling ultra-low latency, low-power, and low-cost voice interaction in Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Through algorithm-hardware co-design, the system's energy efficiency is maximized. We demonstrate the system's capabilities through a live FPGA-based prototype, showcasing stable performance and real-time voice interaction for edge intelligence applications.

Energy Efficient Transmission Based on Grouped Spatial Modulation for upstream DSL Systems

The digital Subscriber Line (DSL) remains an important component of heterogeneous networking, especially in historic city-centers, where using optical fibre is less realistic. Recently, the power consumption has become an important performance metric in telecommunication due to the associated environmental issues. In the recent bonding model, customer sites have been equipped with two/four copper pairs, which may be exploited for designing grouped spatial modulation (SM) aiming for reducing the power consumption and mitigating the stubborn crosstalk in DSL communications. Explicitly, we view the two pair copper pairs equipped for each user as a group and propose an energy efficient transmission scheme based on grouped SM strategy for the upstream DSL systems, which is capable of reducing the power consumption of the upstream transmitters by activating a single copper line of each user. More especially, in order to compensate for the potential bit-rate reduction imposed by reducing the number of activated lines, the proposed scheme implicitly delivers ``virtual bits" via activating/deactivating the lines in addition to the classic modulation scheme. This is particularly beneficial in the DSL context, because the cross-talk imposed by activating several lines may swamp the desired signal. Furthermore, a pair of near-optimal soft turbo detection schemes are proposed for exploiting the unique properties of the DSL channel in order to eliminate the error propagation problem of SM detection routinely encountered in wireless channels. Both the attainable energy-efficiency and the achievable Bit Error Ratio (BER) are investigated. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed group-based SM is capable of outperforming the vectoring scheme both in terms of its energy efficiency for all the examined loop lengths and transmit powers.

Aeronautical Ad Hoc Networking for the Internet-Above-The-Clouds

The engineering vision of relying on the ``smart sky" for supporting air traffic and the ``Internet above the clouds" for in-flight entertainment has become imperative for the future aircraft industry. Aeronautical ad hoc Networking (AANET) constitutes a compelling concept for providing broadband communications above clouds by extending the coverage of Air-to-Ground (A2G) networks to oceanic and remote airspace via autonomous and self-configured wireless networking amongst commercial passenger airplanes. The AANET concept may be viewed as a new member of the family of Mobile ad hoc Networks (MANETs) in action above the clouds. However, AANETs have more dynamic topologies, larger and more variable geographical network size, stricter security requirements and more hostile transmission conditions. These specific characteristics lead to more grave challenges in aircraft mobility modeling, aeronautical channel modeling and interference mitigation as well as in network scheduling and routing. This paper provides an overview of AANET solutions by characterizing the associated scenarios, requirements and challenges. Explicitly, the research addressing the key techniques of AANETs, such as their mobility models, network scheduling and routing, security and interference are reviewed. Furthermore, we also identify the remaining challenges associated with developing AANETs and present their prospective solutions as well as open issues. The design framework of AANETs and the key technical issues are investigated along with some recent research results. Furthermore, a range of performance metrics optimized in designing AANETs and a number of representative multi-objective optimization algorithms are outlined.
