Interplay between chiral symmetry breaking and the QCD Kondo effect

We investigate the interplay between the (light-light quark) chiral condensate and heavy-light quark condensate induced by the QCD Kondo effect, which is described by an effective Lagrangian with four-point interactions and the mean-field approximation. We find that the appearance of Kondo condensates decreases the critical chemical potential of the chiral condensate. In the region near the critical chemical potential, a coexistence phase with two kinds of condensates can appear. The behavior of such an interplay at finite temperature and with nonzero current light-quark mass is also discussed.

Kondo cloud of single heavy quark in cold and dense matter

The Kondo effect is a universal phenomena observed in a variety of fermion systems containing a heavy impurity particle whose interaction is governed by the non-Abelian interaction. At extremely high density, I study the Kondo effect by color exchange in quark matter containing a single heavy (charm or bottom) quark as an impurity particle. To obtain the ground state with the Kondo effect, I introduce the condensate mixing the light quark and the heavy quark (Kondo cloud) in the mean-field approximation. I estimate the energy gain by formation of the Kondo cloud, and present that the Kondo cloud exhibits the resonant structure. I also evaluate the scattering cross section for the light quark and the heavy quark, and discuss its effect to the finite size quark matter.

Mesic nuclei with a heavy antiquark

The binding system of a hadron and a nucleus is a topic of great interest for investigating the hadron properties. In the heavy-flavor region, the attraction between a $P(=\bar{D},B)$ meson and a nucleon $N$ can appear, where the $PN-P^\ast N$ mixing plays an important role in relation to the heavy-quark spin symmetry. The attraction can produce exotic heavy mesic nuclei that are stable against the strong decay. We study an exotic system where the $\bar{D}$ ($B$) meson and nucleus are bound. The meson-nucleus interaction is given by a folding potential with single-channel $PN$ interaction and the nucleon number distribution function. By solving the Schrödinger equations of the heavy meson and the nucleus, we obtain several bound and resonant states for nucleon number $A=16,\dots,208$. The results indicate the possible existence of exotic mesic nuclei with a heavy antiquark.

A Study of Degenerate Two-Body and Three-Body Coupled-Channel Systems -Renormalized Effective AGS Equations and Near-Threshold Resonances-

Motivated by the existence of candidates for exotic hadrons whose masses are close to both of two-body and three-body hadronic thresholds lying close to each other, we study degenerate two-body and three-body coupled-channel systems. We first formulate the scattering problem of non-degenerate two-body and three-body coupled-channels as an effective three-body problem, i.e.\ effective Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (AGS) equations. We next investigate the behavior of $S$-matrix poles near the threshold when two-body and three-body thresholds are degenerate. We solve the eigenvalue equations of the kernel of AGS equations instead of AGS equations themselves to obtain the $S$-matrix pole energy. We then face a problem of unphysical singularity: though the physical transition amplitudes have physical singularities only, the kernel of AGS equations have unphysical singularities. We show, however, that these unphysical singularities can be removed by appropriate reorganization of the scattering equations and mass renormalization. The behavior of $S$-matrix poles near the degenerate threshold is found to be universal in the sense that the complex pole energy, $E$, is determined by a real parameter, $c$, as $c - E \log{\left( - E \right)} = 0$, or equivalently, ${\rm Im} E = - π{\rm Re} E / \log{\mid {\rm Re} E \mid}$. This behavior is different from that of either two-body or three-body system and is characteristic in the degenerate two-body and three-body coupled-channel system. We expect that this new class of universal behavior might play a key role in understanding exotic hadrons.

New Universality for Near-Threshold Three-Body Resonances

In the three-body system with one resonantly interacting pair, we study the behavior of the $S$-matrix pole near the threshold in the fourth quadrant of the unphysical complex energy plane. Our study is essentially based on the unitarity and analyticity of the $S$-matrix and employs the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (AGS) equations specifically for the three-body scattering problem and the dispersion relation for the inverse $T$-matrix. We find that the trajectory of the complex energy, $E$, of the $S$-matrix pole near the threshold is uniquely given by $c_0 + E \log{\left( - E \right)} \approx 0$ or $c_0 + E_R \log E_R \approx 0$, $E_I \approx πE_R/\log E_R$ in the fourth quadrant of the unphysical complex energy plane, in contrast to the non-unique trajectories with no resonantly interacting pair, $c_0 + c_1 E + E^2 \log{\left( - E \right)} \approx 0$ or $E_R \approx -c_0/c_1$, $E_I \approx -πE_R^2/c_1$ where $E_R$ and $E_I$ are the real and imaginary parts of $E$, respectively, and $c_0$ and $c_1$ are real constants. This is a new universal behavior of the $S$-matrix near the threshold. Also, we briefly discuss implications to exotic hadron candidates.

Spectroscopy and production of doubly charmed tetraquarks

We discuss the production of the exotic doubly-charmed tetraquark mesons ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ from electron-positron collisions. ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ is a compact exotic hadron whose binding energy is provided by the diquark correlations. We evaluate the production cross section in the electron-positron collisions using the nonrelativistic QCD framework, and investigate the difference of the production cross section for different color configurations in two charm quarks (antitriplet and sextet), where the mixing of different configurations is suppressed in the heavy quark limit. The total cross section is estimated by modeling the nonperturbative fragmentation process of the charm quark pair into the tetraquark by the wavefunction of the tetraquark and the probability of picking up the light quarks. We find that the internal color configurations are distinguishable by the qualitative features of the differential cross sections which are independent of the nonperturbative matrix elements.

Heavy Hadrons in Nuclear Matter

Current studies on heavy hadrons in nuclear medium are reviewed with a summary of the basic theoretical concepts of QCD, namely chiral symmetry, heavy quark spin symmetry, and the effective Lagrangian approach. The nuclear matter is an interesting place to study the properties of heavy hadrons from many different points of view. We emphasize the importance of the following topics: (i) charm/bottom hadron-nucleon interaction, (ii) structure of charm/bottom nuclei, and (iii) QCD vacuum properties and hadron modifications in nuclear medium. We pick up three different groups of heavy hadrons, quarkonia ($J/ψ$, $Υ$), heavy-light mesons ($D$/$\bar{D}$, $\bar{B}$/$B$) and heavy baryons ($Λ_{c}$, $Λ_{b}$). The modifications of those hadrons in nuclear matter provide us with important information to investigate the essential properties of heavy hadrons. We also give the discussions about the heavy hadrons, not only in nuclear matter with infinite volume, but also in atomic nuclei with finite baryon numbers, to serve future experiments.

Flavor-singlet charm pentaquark

A new type of charm pentaquark $P_{cs}$ with quark content $c\bar{c}uds$ in light-flavor singlet state is studied in the quark model. This state is analogous to the $P_{c}$ with $c\bar{c}uud$ in light-flavor octet, which was observed in LHC in 2015. Considering various combinations of color, spin and light flavor as internal quantum numbers in $P_{cs}$, we investigate the mass ordering of the $P_{cs}$'s by adopting both the one-gluon exchange interaction and the instanton-induced interaction in the quark model. The most stable configuration of $P_{cs}$ is identified to be total spin $1/2$ in which the $c\bar{c}$ is combined to be color octet and spin $1$, while the $uds$ cluster is in a color octet state. The other color octet configurations, the total spin $1/2$ state with the $c\bar{c}$ spin 0 and the state with total spin $3/2$ and $c\bar{c}$ spin 1, are found as excited states. We also discuss possible decay modes of these charm pentaquarks.

Two-body Wave Functions, Compositeness, And The Internal Structure Of Dynamically Generated Resonances

Recently, the compositeness, defined as the norm of a two-body wave function for bound and resonance states, has been investigated to discuss the internal structure of hadrons in terms of hadronic molecular components. From the studies of the compositeness, it has been clarified that the two-body wave function of a bound state can be extracted from the residue of the scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically normalized. In particular, while the compositeness is unity for energy-independent interactions, it deviates from unity for energy-dependent interactions, which can be interpreted as a missing-channel contribution. In this manuscript, we show the formulation of the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude, evaluate the compositeness for several dynamically generated resonances such as $f_{0} (980)$, $Λ(1405)$, and $Ξ(1690)$, and investigate their internal structure in terms of the hadronic molecular components.

Topology and stability of the Kondo phase in quark matter

We investigate properties of the ground state of a light quark matter with heavy quark impurities. This system exhibits the "QCD Kondo effect" where the interaction strength between a light quark near the Fermi surface and a heavy quark increases with decreasing energy of the light quark towards the Fermi energy, and diverges at some scale near the Fermi energy, called the Kondo scale. Around and below the Kondo scale, we must treat the dynamics nonperturbatively. As a typical nonperturbative method to treat the strong coupling regime, we adopt a mean-field approach where we introduce a condensate, the Kondo condensate, representing a mixing between a light quark and a heavy quark, and determine the ground state in the presence of the Kondo condensate. We show that the ground state is a topologically non-trivial state and the heavy quark spin forms the hedgehog configuration in the momentum space. We can define the Berry phase for the ground-state wavefunction in the momentum space which is associated with a monopole at the position of a heavy quark. We also investigate fluctuations around the mean field in the random-phase approximation, and show the existence of (exciton-like) collective excitations made of a hole $h$ of a light quark and a heavy quark $Q$.

Spectral functions for $\bar{D}$ meson and $\bar{D}_0^*$ meson in nuclear matter with partial restoration of chiral symmetry

We investigate the in-medium masses of a $\bar{D} (0^-)$ meson and a $\bar{D}_0^* (0^+)$ meson and spectral functions for $\bar{D}$ and $\bar{D}_0^*$ meson channels in nuclear matter. These mesons are introduced as chiral partner in the chiral symmetry broken vacuum, hence they are useful to explore the partial restoration of the broken chiral symmetry in nuclear matter. We consider the linear sigma model to describe the chiral symmetry breaking. Our study shows that the loop corrections to $\bar{D}$ and $\bar{D}_0^*$ meson masses provide a smaller mass splitting at finite density than that in vacuum, whose result indicates a tendency of the restoration of the chiral symmetry. We investigate also the spectral function for $\bar{D}_0^*$ meson channel, and find three peaks. The first peak which corresponds to the resonance of $\bar{D}_0^*$ meson is broadened by collisions with nucleons in medium, and the peak position shifts to lower mass due to the partial restoration of chiral symmetry as the density increases. The second peak is identified as a threshold enhancement which shows a remarkable enhancement as the density increase. The third peak is Landau damping. The obtained properties of $\bar{D}$ and $\bar{D}_0^*$ mesons in nuclear matter will provide useful information for experiments.

Exotic Hadrons from Heavy Ion Collisions

Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have indicated that some exotic hadrons may have already been produced. The present review is a summary of the current understanding of a selected set of exotic particle candidates that can be potentially measured in HIC. It also includes discussions on the production of exotic hadrons in HIC based on the coalescence and statistical models. A more detailed discussion leads to the conclusion that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state than that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers and/or a molecular configuration. Attention is also given to some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons that could be produced with sufficient abundance in HIC because of the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and LHC, making it possible to study them in these experiments. Further included in the discussion are the general formalism for the coalescence model that involves resonance particles and its implication on the present estimated yield for resonance production. Finally, a review is given on recent studies to constrain the hadron-hadron interaction through correlation measurements in HIC and their implications on the interpretation and the possible existence of exotic states in hadronic interactions.

Structure of charmed baryons studied by pionic decays

We investigate the decays of the charmed baryons aiming at the systematic understanding of hadron internal structures based on the quark model by paying attention to heavy quark symmetry. We evaluate the decay widths from the one pion emission for the known excited states, Λ_c^*(2595), Λ_c^*(2625), Λ_c^*(2765), Λ_c^*(2880) and Λ_c^*(2940), as well as for the ground states Σ_c(2455) and Σ_c^*(2520). The decay properties of the lower excited charmed baryons are well explained, and several important predictions for higher excited baryons are given. We find that the axial-vector type coupling of the pion to the light quarks is essential, which is expected from chiral symmetry, to reproduce the decay widths especially of the low lying Λ_c^* baryons. We emphasize the importance of the branching ratios of Γ(Σ_c^*π)/Γ(Σ_cπ) for the study of the nature of higher excited Λ_c^* baryons.

Kondo effect of $\bar{D}_{s}$ and $\bar{D}_{s}^{\ast}$ mesons in nuclear matter

We study the Kondo effect for $\bar{D}_{s}$ and $\bar{D}_{s}^{\ast}$ mesons as impurity particles in nuclear matter. The spin-exchange interaction between the $\bar{D}_{s}$ or $\bar{D}_{s}^{\ast}$ meson and the nucleon induces the enhancement of the effective coupling in the low-energy scattering in the infrared region, whose scale of singularity is given by the Kondo scale. We investigate the Kondo scale in the renormalization group equation at nucleon one-loop level. We furthermore study the ground state with the Kondo effect in the mean-field approach, and present that the Kondo scale is related to the mixing strength between the $\bar{D}_{s}$ or $\bar{D}_{s}^{\ast}$ meson and the nucleon in nuclear matter. We show the spectral function of the impurity when the Kondo effect occurs.

Exotic Hadrons with Heavy Flavors -X, Y, Z and Related States-

In the past decade, exotic hadrons with charm and bottom flavors have been extensively studied both in experiments and in theories. In this review, we provide topical discussions by selecting $X,Y,Z$ particles, to which Belle has made important contributions. These are $X(3872)$, $Y(4260)$, $Z_c(4430)^+$, $Z_c(3900)^+$, $Z_{b}(10610)^+$ and $Z_{b}(10650)^+$. Based on the current experimental observations, we discuss those states with emphasis on hadronic molecule whose dynamics is governed by chiral symmetry and heavy-quark symmetry of QCD. We also mention briefly various interpretations and some theoretical predictions for the yet undiscovered exotic hadrons.

Compositeness of baryonic resonances: Applications to the Delta(1232), N(1535), and N(1650) resonances

We present a formulation of the compositeness for baryonic resonances in order to discuss the meson-baryon molecular structure inside the resonances. For this purpose, we derive a relation between the residue of the scattering amplitude at the resonance pole position and the two-body wave function of the resonance in a sophisticated way, and we define the compositeness as the norm of the two-body wave functions. As applications, we investigate the compositeness of the $Δ(1232)$, $N (1535)$, and $N (1650)$ resonances from precise $πN$ scattering amplitudes in a unitarized chiral framework with the interaction up to the next-to-leading order in chiral perturbation theory. The $πN$ compositeness for the $Δ(1232)$ resonance is evaluated in the $πN$ single-channel scattering, and we find that the $πN$ component inside $Δ(1232)$ in the present framework is nonnegligible, which supports the previous work. On the other hand, the compositeness for the $N (1535)$ and $N (1650)$ resonances is evaluated in a coupled-channels approach, resulting that the $πN$, $ηN$, $K Λ$ and $K Σ$ components are negligible for these resonances.

Kondo effect in charm/bottom nuclei

We discuss the Kondo effect for isospin-exchange interaction between a $\bar{D}$, $B$ meson and a valence nucleon in charm/bottom atomic nuclei including the discrete energy-levels for valence nucleons. To investigate the binding energy by the Kondo effect, we introduce the mean-field approach for the bound state of the $\bar{D}$, $B$ meson in charm/bottom nuclei. Assuming a simple model, we examine the validity of the mean-field approximation by comparing the results with the exact solutions. We also estimate the effect of the quantum fluctuation beyond the mean-field approximation. We discuss the competition between the Kondo effect and the other correlations in valence nucleon, the isospin symmetry breaking and the nucleon pairings.

Charmed baryons and their interactions

In this proceedings report, we discuss unique features of charmed, or in general heavy, baryons with one heavy quark. A well and long-term known phenomena, the distinction of the two modes of the rho and lambda type of a three-quark system is revisited. The difference of these modes may be tested in the production and decay reactions of the baryons which may be tested in the future experiments at J-PARC.
