Emergence of scale invariance and efficiency in a racetrack betting market

We study the time change of the relation between the rank of a racehorse in the Japan Racing Association and the result of victory or defeat. Horses are ranked according to the win bet fractions. As the vote progresses, the racehorses are mixed on the win bet fraction axis. We see the emergence of a scale invariant relation between the cumulative distribution function of the winning horse $x_{1}$ and that of the losing horse $x_{0}$. $x_{1}\propto x_{0}^α$ holds in the small win bet fraction region. We also see the efficiency of the market as the vote proceeds. However, the convergence to the efficient state is not monotonic. The time change of the distribution of a vote is complicated. Votes resume concentration on popular horses, after the distribution spreads to a certain extent. In order to explain scale invariance, we introduce a simple voting model. In a `double' scaling limit, we show that the exact scale invariance relation $x_{1}=x_{0}^α$ holds over the entire range $0\le x_{0},x_{1}\le 1$.

Infectious Default Model with Recovery and Continuous Limit

We introduce an infectious default and recovery model for N obligors. Obligors are assumed to be exchangeable and their states are described by N Bernoulli random variables S_{i} (i=1,...,N). They are expressed by multiplying independent Bernoulli variables X_{i},Y_{ij},Y'_{ij}, and default and recovery infections are described by Y_{ij} and Y'_{ij}. We obtain the default probability function P(k) for k defaults. Taking its continuous limit, we find two nontrivial probability distributions with the reflection symmetry of S_{i} \leftrightarrow 1-S_{i}. Their profiles are singular and oscillating and we understand it theoretically. We also compare P(k) with an implied default distribution function inferred from the quotes of iTraxx-CJ. In order to explain the behavior of the implied distribution, the recovery effect may be necessary.

Geometrical Folding Transitions of the Triangular Lattice in the Face-Centred Cubic Lattice

We study the folding of the regular two-dimensional triangular lattice embedded in the regular three-dimensional Face-Centred Cubic lattice, a discrete model for the crumpling of membranes. Possible folds are complete planar folds, folds with the angle of a regular tetrahedron (71 degrees) or with that of a regular octahedron (109 degrees). We study this model in the presence of a negative bending rigidity K, which favours the folding process. We use both a cluster variation method (CVM) approximation and a transfer matrix approach. The system is shown to undergo two separate geometrical transitions with increasing |K|: a first discontinuous transition separates a phase where the triangular lattice is preferentially wrapped around octahedra from a phase where it is preferentially wrapped around tetrahedra. A second continuous transition separates this latter phase from a phase of complete folding of the lattice on top of a single triangle.
