Out-of-plane impurities induced the deviation from the monotonic d-wave superconducting gap in cuprate superconductors

The electronic structure of cuprate superconductors is studied within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism in the presence of the out-of-plane impurities. With increasing the impurity concentration, although both superconducting coherence peaks around nodal and antinodal regions are suppressed, the position of the leading-edge mid-point of the electron spectrum around the nodal region remains at the same position, while it is shifted towards higher binding energies around the antinodal region, this leads to a strong deviation from the monotonic d-wave superconducting gap in the out-of-plane impurity-controlled cuprate superconductors.

Cold-atoms on a two-dimensional square optical lattice with an alternating potential

The cold-atom on a two-dimensional square optical lattice is studied within the hard-core boson Hubbard model with an alternating potential. In terms of the quantum Monte Carlo method, it is shown explicitly that a supersolid phase emerges due to the presence of the alternating potential. For the weak alternating potential, the supersolid state appears for the whole range of hard-core boson densities except the half-filling case, where the system is a Mott insulator. However, for the strong alternating potential, besides the supersolid and Mott insulating states, a charge density wave phase appears.

Solitons and vortices in an evolving Bose-Einstein condensate

Spatiotemporal evolution of a confined Bose-Einstein condensate is studied by numerically integrating the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation. Self-interference between the successively expanding and reflecting nonlinear matter waves results in spiral atomic density profile, which subsequently degenerates into an embedding structure: The inner part preserves memory of the initial states while the outer part forms a sequence of necklacelike rings. The phase plot reveals a series of discrete concentric belts. The large gradients between adjacent belts indicate that the ring density notches are dark solitons. In the dynamical process, a scenario of vortex-antivortex pairs are spontaneously created and annihilated, whereas the total vorticity keeps invariant.

Magnetic field induced incommensurate resonance in cuprate superconductors

The influence of a uniform external magnetic field on the dynamical spin response of cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the magnetic scattering around low and intermediate energies is dramatically changed with a modest external magnetic field. With increasing the external magnetic field, although the incommensurate magnetic scattering from both low and high energies is rather robust, the commensurate magnetic resonance scattering peak is broadened. The part of the spin excitation dispersion seems to be an hourglass-like dispersion, which breaks down at the heavily low energy regime. The theory also predicts that the commensurate resonance scattering at zero external magnetic field is induced into the incommensurate resonance scattering by applying an external magnetic field large enough.

Doping and energy evolution of spin dynamics in the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Pr$_{0.88}$LaCe$_{0.12}$CuO$_{4-δ}$

The doping and energy evolution of the magnetic excitations of the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Pr$_{0.88}$LaCe$_{0.12}$CuO$_{4-δ}$ in the superconducting state is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that there is a broad commensurate scattering peak at low energy, then the resonance energy is located among this low energy commensurate scattering range. This low energy commensurate scattering disperses outward into a continuous ring-like incommensurate scattering at high energy. The theory also predicts a dome shaped doping dependent resonance energy.

Doping and energy dependent microwave conductivity of kinetic energy driven superconductors with extended impurities

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the extended impurity scatterers on the quasiparticle transport of cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied based on the nodal approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scattering processes. It is shown that there is a cusplike shape of the energy dependent microwave conductivity spectrum. At low temperatures, the microwave conductivity increases linearly with increasing temperatures, and reaches a maximum at intermediate temperature, then decreases with increasing temperatures at high temperatures. In contrast with the dome shape of the doping dependent superconducting gap parameter, the minimum microwave conductivity occurs around the optimal doping, and then increases in both underdoped and overdoped regimes.

Giant vortex and Skyrmion in a rotating two-species Bose-Einstein condensate

Numerical simulations are performed for a rotating two-species Bose condensate confined by a harmonic potential. The particle numbers of each species are unequal. When the rotational speed exceeds a critical value, the majority species reside in the center of the potential while the minority species is pushed out to the outskirts, forming a giant vortex hole to contain the majority species. A novel annular Skyrmion forms at the interface of the two species.

Electronic structure of kinetic energy driven cuprate superconductors

In this paper, we review the low energy electronic structure of the kinetic energy driven d-wave cuprate superconductors. We give a general description of the charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory, where the constrained electron is decoupled as the gauge invariant dressed holon and spin. In particular, we show that under the decoupling scheme, the charge-spin separation fermion-spin representation is a natural representation of the constrained electron defined in a restricted Hilbert space without double electron occupancy. Based on the charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory, we have developed the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, where the superconducting state is controlled by both superconducting gap parameter and quasiparticle coherence. Within this kinetic energy driven superconductivity, we have discussed the low energy electronic structure of the single layer and bilayer cuprate superconductors in both superconducting and normal states, and qualitatively reproduced all main features of the angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements on the single layer and bilayer cuprate superconductors. We show that the superconducting state in cuprate superconductors is the conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer like with the d-wave symmetry, so that the basic Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer formalism with the d-wave gap function is still valid in discussions of the low energy electronic structure of cuprate superconductors, although the pairing mechanism is driven by the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations. We also show that the well pronounced peak-dip-hump structure of the bilayer cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state and double-peak structure in the normal state are mainly caused by the bilayer splitting.

Electronic structure of kinetic energy driven superconductors in the presence of bilayer splitting

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconductivity, the electronic structure of bilayer cuprate superconductors in the superconducting state is studied. It is shown that the electron spectrum of bilayer cuprate superconductors is split into the bonding and antibonding components by the bilayer splitting, then the observed peak-dip-hump structure around the $[π,0]$ point is mainly caused by this bilayer splitting, with the superconducting peak being related to the antibonding component, and the hump being formed by the bonding component. The spectral weight increases with increasing the doping concentration. In analogy to the normal state case, both electron antibonding peak and bonding hump have the weak dispersions around the $[π,0]$ point.

Doping and temperature dependence of electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates

Within the t-t'-J model, the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in doped bilayer cuprates in the normal state are discussed by considering the bilayer interaction. It is shown that the bilayer interaction splits the electron spectrum of doped bilayer cuprates into the bonding and antibonding components around the $(π,0)$ point. The differentiation between the bonding and antibonding components is essential, which leads to two main flat bands around the $(π,0)$ point below the Fermi energy. In analogy to the doped single layer cuprates, the lowest energy states in doped bilayer cuprates are located at the $(π/2,π/2)$ point. Our results also show that the striking behavior of the electronic structure in doped bilayer cuprates is intriguingly related to the bilayer interaction together with strong coupling between the electron quasiparticles and collective magnetic excitations.

Pressure dependence of superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates

Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, the effect of the pressure on superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is studied. It is shown that the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprate superconductors increases with increasing pressure in the underpressure regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal pressure, then decreases in the overpressure regime. This domed shape of the pressure dependence of the superconducting transition temperature is similar to that of the pressure dependence of the longitudinal part of the superconducting gap parameter, indicating that superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is mainly produced by the development of the pairing correlation along legs.

Electronic structure of the electron-doped cuprate superconductors

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven d-wave superconductivity, the electronic structure of the electron doped cuprate superconductors is studied. It is shown that although there is an electron-hole asymmetry in the phase diagram, the electronic structure of the electron-doped cuprates in the superconducting-state is similar to that in the hole-doped case. With increasing the electron doping, the spectral weight in the $(π,0)$ point increases, while the position of the superconducting quasiparticle peak is shifted towards the Fermi energy. In analogy to the hole-doped case, the superconducting quasiparticles around the $(π,0)$ point disperse very weakly with momentum.

Theory of superconductivity in doped cuprates

Within the t-t'-J model, the physical properties of doped cuprates in the superconducting-state are discussed based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. We show that the superconducting-state in cuprate superconductors is controlled by both superconducting gap parameter and single particle coherence, and then quantitatively reproduce some main features found in the experiments on cuprate superconductors, including the doping dependence of the superconducting gap parameter and superconducting transition temperature, the electron spectral function at [π,0] point, the charge asymmetry of superconductivity in the hole and electron doping, and the doping and energy dependence of the incommensurate magnetic scattering at both low and high energies and commensurate [π,π] resonance at intermediate energy. We also show that the incommensurate magnetic excitations at high energy have energies greater than the superconducting gap energy, and are present at the superconducting transition temperature.

Electronic structure of kinetic energy driven superconductors

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconductivity, we study the electronic structure of cuprate superconductors. It is shown that the spectral weight of the electron spectrum in the antinodal point of the Brillouin zone decreases as the temperature is increased. With increasing the doping concentration, this spectral weigh increases, while the position of the sharp superconducting quasiparticle peak moves to the Fermi energy. In analogy to the normal-state case, the superconducting quasiparticles around the antinodal point disperse very weakly with momentum. Our results also show that the striking behavior of the superconducting coherence of the quasiparticle peaks is intriguingly related to the strong coupling between the superconducting quasiparticles and collective magnetic excitations.

The fundamental role of superconducting quasiparticle coherence in cuprate superconductors

Within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism, we study the interplay between superconductivity and the nodal and antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherences in cuprate superconductors, and find the s-wave superconducting transition temperature is heavily suppressed by the antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherence, while the d-wave superconducting transition temperature is enhanced, therefore the antinodal superconducting quasiparticle coherence plays a more crucial role in superconductivity of cuprate superconductors.

Heat transport of electron-doped Cobaltates

Within the t-J model, the heat transport of electron-doped cobaltates is studied based on the fermion-spin theory. It is shown that the temperature dependent thermal conductivity is characterized by the low temperature peak located at a finite temperature. The thermal conductivity increases monotonously with increasing temperature at low temperatures T $<$ 0.1$J$, and then decreases with increasing temperature for higher temperatures T $>$ 0.1$J$, in qualitative agreement with experimental result observed from Na$_{x}$CoO$_{2}$ .

Superconductivity in doped two-leg ladder cuprates

Within the t-J ladder model, superconductivity with a modified d-wave symmetry in doped two-leg ladder cuprates is investigated based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the spin-liquid ground-state at the half-filling evolves into the superconducting ground-state upon doping. In analogy to the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature in the planar cuprate superconductors, the superconducting transition temperature in doped two-leg ladder cuprates increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal doping, then decreases in the overdoped regime.

Asymmetry of the electron spectrum in hole-doped and electron-doped cuprates

Within the t-t'-J model, the asymmetry of the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion in hole-doped and electron-doped cuprates is discussed. It is shown that the quasiparticle dispersions of both hole-doped and electron-doped cuprates exhibit the flat band around the (π,0) point below the Fermi energy. The lowest energy states are located at the (π/2,π/2) point for the hole doping, while they appear at the (π,0) point in the electron-doped case due to the electron-hole asymmetry. Our results also show that the unusual behavior of the electron spectrum and quasiparticle dispersion is intriguingly related to the strong coupling between the electron quasiparticles and collective magnetic excitations.
