Doping dependence of thermodynamic properties in cuprate superconductors

The doping and temperature dependence of the thermodynamic properties in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. By considering the interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap, the some main features of the doping and temperature dependence of the specific-heat, the condensation energy, and the upper critical field are well reproduced. In particular, it is shown that in analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependence of the superconducting transition temperature, the maximal upper critical field occurs around the optimal doping, and then decreases in both underdoped and overdoped regimes. Our results also show that the humplike anomaly of the specific-heat near superconducting transition temperature in the underdoped regime can be attributed to the emergence of the normal-state pseudogap in cuprate superconductors.

Two gaps with one energy scale in cuprate superconductors

The interplay between the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that the interaction between charge carriers and spins directly from the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations in the higher power of the doping concentration induces the normal-state pseudogap state in the particle-hole channel and superconducting state in the particle-particle channel, therefore there is a coexistence of the superconducting gap and normal-state pseudogap in the whole superconducting dome. This normal-state pseudogap is closely related to the quasiparticle coherent weight, and is a necessary ingredient for superconductivity in cuprate superconductors. In particular, both the normal-state pseudogap and superconducting gap are dominated by one energy scale, and they are the result of the strong electron correlation.

Disorder effects on the quantum coherence of a many-boson system

The effects of disorders on the quantum coherence for many-bosons are studied in a double well model. For the ground state, the disorder enhances the quantum coherence. In the deep Mott regime, dynamical evolution reveals periodical collapses and revivals of the quantum coherence which is robust against the disorder. The average over variations in both the on-site energy and the interaction reveals a beat phenomenon of the coherence-decoherence oscillation in the temporal evolution.

Thermodynamical properties of a trapped interacting Bose gas

The thermodynamical properties of interacting Bose atoms in a harmonic potential are studied within the mean-field approximation. For weak interactions, the quantum statistics is equivalent to an ideal gas in an effective mean-field potential. The eigenvalue of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation is identified as the chemical potential of the ideal gas. The condensation temperature and density profile of atoms are calculated. It is found that the critical temperature $T_c$ decreases as the interactions increase. Below the critical point, the condensation fraction exhibits a universal relation of $N_0/N=1-(T/T_c)^γ$, with the index $γ\approx 2.3$ independent of the interaction strength, the chemical potential, as well as the frequency of the confining potential.

Fermionic superfluidity and spontaneous superflows in optical lattices

We study superfluidity of strongly repulsive fermionic atoms in optical lattices. The atoms are paired up through a correlated tunneling mechanism, which induces superfluidity when repulsive nearest-neighbor interactions are included in the Hubbard model. This paired superfluid is a metastable state which persists for a long time as the pair-broken process is severely suppressed. The mean-field phase diagram and low energy excitations are investigated in a square lattice system. Intriguingly, spontaneous superflows may appear in the ground state of a triangular optical lattice system due to antiferromagnetic frustration.

Electronic Raman response in electron-doped cuprate superconductors

The electronic Raman response in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors is studied based on the $t$-$t'$-$J$ model. It is shown that although the domelike shape of the doping dependent peak energy in the $B_{2g}$ symmetry is a common feature for both electron-doped and hole-doped cuprate superconductors, there are pronounced deviations from a cubic response in the $B_{1g}$ channel and a linear response in the $B_{2g}$ channel for the electron-doped case in the low energy limit. It is also shown that these pronounced deviations are mainly caused by a nonmonotonic d-wave gap in the electron-doped cuprate superconductors.

Spin dynamics in the pressure-induced two-leg ladder cuprate superconductor Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$

Within the two-leg $t$-J ladder, the spin dynamics of the pressure-induced two-leg ladder cuprate superconductor Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$ is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. It is shown that in the pressure-induced superconducting state, the incommensurate spin correlation appears in the underpressure regime, while the commensurate spin fluctuation emerges in the optimal pressure and overpressure regimes. In particular, the spin-lattice relaxation time is dominated by a temperature linear dependence term at low temperature followed by a peak developed below the superconducting transition temperature, in qualitative agreement with the experimental observation on Sr$_{14-x}$Ca$_{x}$Cu$_{24}$O$_{41}$.

The effects of disorder and interactions on the Anderson transition in doped Graphene

We undertake an exact numerical study of the effects of disorder on the Anderson localization of electronic states in graphene. Analyzing the scaling behaviors of inverse participation ratio and geometrically averaged density of states, we find that Anderson metal-insulator transition can be introduced by the presence of quenched random disorder. In contrast with the conventional picture of localization, four mobility edges can be observed for the honeycomb lattice with specific disorder strength and impurity concentration. Considering the screening effects of interactions on disorder potentials, the experimental findings of the scale enlarges of puddles can be explained by reviewing the effects of both interactions and disorder.

Topological Spin Density Wave

In this paper, we investigate the topological Hubbard model on honeycomb lattice. By considering the topological properties of the magnetic state, new types of quantum states - A-type and B-type topological spin-density-waves (A-TSDW and B-TSDW) are explored. The low energy physics is solely determined by its Chern-Simons-Hopf gauge field theories with different K-matrices. In the formulism of topological field theory, we found spin-charge separated charge-flux binding effect for A-TSDW and spin-charge synchronized charge-flux binding effect for B-TSDW. In addition, we studied the edge states and quantized Hall effect in different TSDWs.

Magnetic field induced reduction of the low-temperature superfluid density in cuprate superconductors

The weak magnetic field induced reduction of the low-temperature superfluid density in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. The electromagnetic response kernel is evaluated by considering both couplings of the electron charge and electron magnetic momentum with a weak magnetic field and employed to calculate the superfluid density, then the main features of the weak magnetic field induced reduction of the low-temperature superfluid density are well reproduced. The theory also shows that the striking behavior of the weak magnetic field induced reduction of the low-temperature superfluid density is intriguingly related to both depairing due to the Pauli spin polarization and nonlocal response in the vicinity of the d-wave gap nodes on the Fermi surface to a weak magnetic field.

Quantum spin Hall effect induced by non-magnetic and magnetic staggered potentials

We have a comparative study of the quantum spin Hall (QSH) effects induced by non-magnetic and magnetic staggered potentials respectively and show that they have the same effect in driving the topological phase transition. The result implies that both time-reversal (${\cal T}$) preserving and breaking systems can host QSH effect. We also investigate the stability of the resulting QSH effect to disorder and find that for ${\cal T}$ invariant system the edge states are always robust while those of ${\cal T}$ breaking system are also robust if there is additional symmetry in the system.

Chiral Spin Liquid in Correlated Topological Insulator

In this paper, we investigate the topological Hubbard model - the spinful Haldane model with on-site interaction on honeycomb lattice with spin rotation symmetry by using slave-rotor approach and find that chiral spin liquid exists in such a correlated electron system of the intermediate coupling region. By considering the anyon nature of excitations, chiral spin liquid may be the ground state of the topological Hubbard model. The low energy physics is basically determined by its Chern-Simons gauge theory.

Doping and temperature dependence of electronic Raman response in cuprate superconductors

The doping and temperature dependence of the electronic Raman response in cuprate superconductors is studied within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism for the t-J model. It is shown that the temperature dependent depletion at low-energy shifts is faster in B_{1g} symmetry than in B_{2g} symmetry. In analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependent superconducting transition temperature, the pair-breaking peak energy in B_{2g} channel increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal doping, then decreases in the overdoped regime. Moreover, the overall Cooper pair density increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime.

Doping dependence of Meissner effect in cuprate superconductors

Within the t-t'-J model, the doping dependence of the Meissner effect in cuprate superconductors is studied based on the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. Following the linear response theory, it is shown that the electromagnetic response consists of two parts, the diamagnetic current and the paramagnetic current, which exactly cancels the diamagnetic term in the normal state, and then the Meissner effect is obtained for all the temperature $T\leq T_{c}$ throughout the superconducting dome. By considering the two-dimensional geometry of cuprate superconductors within the specular reflection model, the main features of the doping and temperature dependence of the local magnetic field profile, the magnetic field penetration depth, and the superfluid density observed on cuprate superconductors are well reproduced. In particular, it is shown that in analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependent superconducting transition temperature, the maximal superfluid density occurs around the critical doping $δ\approx 0.195$, and then decreases in both lower doped and higher doped regimes.

Extinction of quasiparticle scattering interference in cuprate superconductors

The quasiparticle scattering interference phenomenon characterized by the peaks in the local density of states is studied within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism in the presence of a single impurity. By calculation of the Fourier transformed ratio of the local density of states at opposite energy, it is shown that the quasiparticle scattering interference phenomenon can be described qualitatively by a single impurity in the kinetic energy driven homogeneous d-wave superconducting state. The amplitude of the peak increases with increasing energy at the low energy, and reaches a maximum at the intermediate energy, then diminishes to zero at the high energy. The theory also predicts that with increasing doping, the position of the peak along the nodal direction moves towards to the center of the Brillouin zone, while the position of the peak along the antinodal direction is shifted to large momentum region.

Electromagnetic response in kinetic energy driven cuprate superconductors: Linear response approach

Within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconductivity, the electromagnetic response in cuprate superconductors is studied in the linear response approach. The kernel of the response function is evaluated and employed to calculate the local magnetic field profile, the magnetic field penetration depth, and the superfluid density, based on the specular reflection model for a purely transverse vector potential. It is shown that the low temperature magnetic field profile follows an exponential decay at the surface, while the magnetic field penetration depth depends linearly on temperature, except for the strong deviation from the linear characteristics at extremely low temperatures. The superfluid density is found to decrease linearly with decreasing doping concentration in the underdoped regime. The problem of gauge invariance is addressed and an approximation for the dressed current vertex, which does not violate local charge conservation is proposed and discussed.

Momentum dependence of quasiparticle spectrum and Bogoliubov angle in cuprate superconductors

The momentum dependence of the low energy quasiparticle spectrum and the related Bogoliubov angle in cuprate superconductors are studied within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. By calculation of the ratio of the low energy quasiparticle spectra at positive and negative energies, it is shown that the Bogoliubov angle increase monotonically across the Fermi crossing point. The results also show that the superconducting coherence of the low energy quasiparticle peak is well described by a simple d-wave Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer formalism, although the pairing mechanism is driven by the kinetic energy by exchanging spin excitations.

Anisotropic microwave conductivity of cuprate superconductors in the presence of CuO chain induced impurities

The anisotropy in the microwave conductivity of the ortho-II YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.50}$ is studied within the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism. The ortho-II YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.50}$ is characterized by a periodic alternative of filled and empty $\hat{b}$-axis CuO chains. By considering the CuO chain induced extended anisotropy impurity scattering, the main features of the anisotropy in the microwave conductivity of the ortho-II YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.50}$ are reproduced based on the nodal approximation of the quasiparticle excitations and scattering processes, including the intensity and lineshape of the energy and temperature dependence of the $\hat{a}$-axis and $\hat{b}$-axis microwave conductivities. Our results also confirm that the $\hat{b}$-axis CuO chain induced impurity is the main source of the anisotropy.
