Deterministic Hypergraph SYK: Melonic Dominance and Maximal Chaos Without Disorder Averaging

We show that SYK-like melonic solvability and maximal chaos survive in a sparse deterministic model, without disorder averaging. Our deterministic hypergraph SYK model (hSYK) consists of $N$ Majorana fermions on a $q$-uniform, $d$-regular interaction hypergraph with only $O(dN)$ interaction terms and uniform positive couplings. Under explicit geometric and spectral expansion conditions, its two-point function satisfies the standard melonic Schwinger-Dyson equation up to $O(d^{-1})$ corrections, while the leading bilocal effective action coincides with that of ordinary SYK at the dominant large-$d$ saddle. Its connected four-point function factorizes into a temporal SYK ladder kernel and a line-graph random walk. A finite line-graph spectral gap controls the visibility of the maximally chaotic uniform mode in generic localized OTOCs and, by gapping non-uniform spatial modes in the bilocal spectrum, excludes additional light fluctuation modes beyond the Schwarzian. Exact diagonalization further shows melonic two-point scaling, single-instance Wigner-Dyson statistics, and the predicted graph-controlled spatial decay of OTOCs. The model therefore offers a disorder-free realization of the essential melonic and chaotic features of SYK, in a form more amenable to quantum simulation.

Quantum Memory Advantage from Contextuality

Quantum contextuality is a vital non-classical resource, yet illuminating the precise mechanisms through which it enables unconditional computational advantages remains a challenge. We translate graph-theoretic formulations of contextuality into an unconditional quantum memory advantage for formal language recognition. We define a promise problem on an exclusivity graph $G$ where any classical finite automaton respecting exclusivity requires $N \ge χ(G)$ memory states, whereas a QFA requires a memory of dimension $d = ξ(G)$. The gap between these bounds isolates a structural, information-theoretic incompatibility between classical and quantum descriptions that we term \textit{representational contextuality}. For Boolean orthogonality graphs, this exacts an exponential classical memory penalty ($d=\mathcal{O}(n)$ vs $N=2^{Ω(n)}$). Finally, we demonstrate a sharp algorithmic phase transition: allowing the classical machine a finite confusability of mutually exclusive events reduces this exponential classical memory cost to $\mathcal{O}(n)$.

Chern-Simons propagators in AdS$_3$

We introduce parity-odd spin-1 harmonic functions in AdS$_3$ and study their properties. We demonstrate that such parity-odd harmonics are related to their parity-even counterparts through the action of a `Chern-Simons operator', which we present as a novelty in this paper. This relation leads to the construction of simultaneous eigen-functions of the Laplacian and the Chern-Simons operators. Subsequently, these harmonic functions are employed to construct propagators in pure abelian Chern-Simons theory as well as Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory in a covariant gauge. We demonstrate the consistency of the Chern-Simons propagator with the expected two-point function of the boundary currents. Our results are built upon the embedding formalism, which we modify suitably to incorporate parity-odd structures. This formalism also readily helps us write down parity odd structures for the propagators of higher-spin fields. Finally, we construct a split representation for the parity-odd harmonic functions, which may be useful to compute Witten diagrams with loops. Our results are expected to be useful in perturbative studies of parity violating QFTs on AdS$_3$.

Invariant Theory, Magic State Distillation, and Bounds on Classical Codes

We show that the physical consistency of magic state distillation imposes new constraints on the weight enumerators of classical error-correcting codes. We establish that for $|T\rangle$-state distillation protocols based on linear self-orthogonal $GF(4)$ codes, the distillation threshold and noise-suppression exponent are directly determined by the code's simple weight enumerator. By enforcing the physical consistency of the distillation process -- specifically, that the probability of successfully projecting onto the target state must be non-negative -- we derive a new set of constraints on classical weight enumerators. These ``quantum consistency'' constraints prove to be strictly stronger than those derived from classical invariant theory, yielding new upper bounds on the minimum distance of certain classical and quantum codes. Most notably, we show that these new constraints resolve a long-standing open problem in classical coding theory by proving the non-existence of extremal Hermitian self-dual codes over $GF(4)$ with parameters $[12m, 6m, 4m+2]$. Additionally, we use our formalism to perform an exhaustive search of distillation protocols based on linear $GF(4)$ codes with $n < 20$, finding no protocols with thresholds exceeding the 5-qubit code, and we derive analytic upper bounds on the noise-suppression exponents of such distillation routines as a function of $n$.

A Search for High-Threshold Qutrit Magic State Distillation Routines

Determining the best attainable threshold for qudit magic state distillation is directly related to the question of whether or not contextuality is sufficient for universal quantum computation. We show that the performance of a qudit correcting code for magic state distillation is captured by its complete weight enumerator. For the qutrit strange state -- a maximally magic non-stabilizer state -- the performance of a code is captured by its simple weight enumerator. This result allows us to carry out an extensive search for high-threshold magic state distillation routines for the strange state. Our search covers all $[[n,1]]_3$ qutrit stabilizer codes with a complete set of transversal Clifford gates for $n\leq 23$, and all $[[n,1]]_3$ stabilizer codes with a transversal $H^2$ gate with $n \leq 9$ qudits. For $n=23$, we find over 600 CSS codes that can distill the qutrit strange state with cubic noise suppression. While none of these codes surpass the threshold of the 11-qutrit Golay code, their existence suggests that, for large codes, the ability to distill the qutrit strange state is somewhat generic.

Sublogarithmic Distillation in all Prime Dimensions using Punctured Reed-Muller Codes

Magic state distillation is a leading but costly approach to fault-tolerant quantum computation, and it is important to explore all possible ways of minimizing its overhead cost. The number of ancillae required to produce a magic state within a target error rate $ε$ is $O(\log^γ (ε^{-1}))$ where $γ$ is known as the yield parameter. Hastings and Haah derived a family of distillation protocols with sublogarithmic overhead (i.e., $γ< 1$) based on punctured Reed-Muller codes. Building on work by Campbell \textit{et al.} and Krishna-Tillich, which suggests that qudits of dimension $p>2$ can significantly reduce overhead, we generalize their construction to qudits of arbitrary prime dimension $p$. We find that, in an analytically tractable puncturing scheme, the number of qudits required to achieve sublogarithmic overhead decreases drastically as $p$ increases, and the asymptotic yield parameter approaches $\frac{1}{\ln p}$ as $p \to \infty$. We also perform a small computational search for optimal puncture locations, which results in several interesting triorthogonal codes, including a $[[519,106,5]]_5$ code with $γ=0.99$.

Fault-Tolerant Implementation of the Deutsch-Jozsa Algorithm

We show that one can implement the Deutsch-Josza algorithm, one of the first and simplest quantum algorithms, in a fault-tolerant manner using the smallest quantum error-detecting code -- the $[[4,2,2]]$ code -- without any ancillae. We implemented the algorithm on a trapped-ion quantum computer with and without fault-tolerant encoding and compared the results. With approximately $99 \%$ confidence, we found that the fault-tolerant implementation provided a noise reduction for all oracles. Averaged across all oracles, the reduction in error rate was nearly $90 \%$.

Low Overhead Qutrit Magic State Distillation

We show that using qutrits rather than qubits leads to a substantial reduction in the overhead cost associated with an approach to fault-tolerant quantum computing known as magic state distillation. We construct a family of $[[9m-k, k, 2]]_3$ triorthogonal qutrit error-correcting codes for any positive integers $m$ and $k$ with $k \leq 3m-2$ that are suitable for magic state distillation. In magic state distillation, the number of ancillae required to produce a magic state with target error rate $ε$ is $O(\log^γε^{-1})$, where the yield parameter $γ$ characterizes the overhead cost. For $k=3m-2$, our codes have $γ= \log_2 (2+\frac{6}{3 m-2})$, which tends to $1$ as $m \to \infty$. Moreover, the $[[20,7,2]]_3$ qutrit code that arises from our construction when $m=3$ already has a yield parameter of $1.51$ which outperforms all known qubit triorthogonal codes of size less than a few hundred qubits.

Emergent Supersymmetry at Large $N$

We search for infrared fixed points of Gross-Neveu Yukawa models with matrix degrees of freedom in $d=4-\varepsilon$. We consider three models -- a model with $SU(N)$ symmetry in which the scalar and fermionic fields both transform in the adjoint representation, a model with $SO(N)$ symmetry in which the scalar and fermion fields both transform as real symmetric-traceless matrices, and a model with $SO(N)$ symmetry in which the scalar field transforms as a real symmetric-traceless matrix, while the fermion transforms in the adjoint representation. These models differ at finite $N$, but their large-$N$ limits are perturbatively equivalent. The first two models contain a supersymmetric fixed point for all $N$, which is attractive to all classically-marginal deformations for $N$ sufficiently large. The third model possesses a stable fixed point that, although non-supersymmetric, gives rise to many correlation functions that are identical to those of a supersymmetric fixed point when $N$ is sufficiently large. We also find several non-supersymmetric fixed points at finite and large-$N$. Planar diagrams dominate the large-$N$ limit of these fixed points, which suggests the possibility of a stringy holographic dual description.

Bifundamental Multiscalar Fixed Points in $d=3-ε$

We study fixed-points of scalar fields that transform in the bifundamental representation of $O(N)\times O(M)$ in $3-ε$ dimensions, generalizing the classic tricritical sextic vector model. In the limit where $N$ is large but $M$ is finite, we determine the complete beta function to order $1/N$ for arbitrary $M$. We find a rich collection of large-$N$ fixed-points in $d=3$, as well as fixed-points in $d=3-ε$, that can be studied to all orders in the parameter $\hatε=Nε$. With the goal of defining a large-$N$ nonsupersymmetric conformal field theory dominated by a web of planar diagrams, we also study fixed-points in the ``bifundamental'' large-$N$ limit, in which $M$ and $N$ are both large, but the ratio $M/N$ is held fixed. We find a unique infrared fixed-point in $d=3-ε$, which we determine to order $ε^2$. When $M/N \ll 1$, we also find an ultraviolet fixed-point in $d=3$ and $d=3-ε$ that merges with the infrared fixed-point at $ε\sim O(M/N)$. We expect at least one of two candidate fixed-points in integer dimensions -- the infrared fixed-point in $d=2$ and the ultraviolet fixed-point in $d=3$ -- to survive for finite values of $M/N$.

Spectrum of a Gross-Neveu Yukawa model with flavor disorder in $d=3$

We show that a variant of the Gross-Neveu Yukawa model with disorder provides a real, nonsupersymmetric generalization of the Sachdev-Ye Kitaev (SYK) model to three dimensions. The model contains $M$ real scalar fields and $N$ Dirac (or Majorana) fermions, interacting via a Yukawa interaction with a local Gaussian random coupling in three dimensions. In the limit where $M$ and $N$ are both large, and the ratio $M/N$ is held fixed, the model defines a line of infrared fixed points parametrized by $M/N$, reducing to the Gross-Neveu vector model when $M/N=0$. When $M/N$ is nonzero, the model is dominated by melonic diagrams and gives rise to SYK-like physics. We compute the spectrum of single-trace operators in the theory, and find that it is real for all values of $M/N$.

Crossing Symmetry in Matter Chern-Simons Theories at finite $N$ and $k$

We present a conjecture for the crossing symmetry rules for Chern-Simons gauge theories interacting with massive matter in $2+1$ dimensions. Our crossing rules are given in terms of the expectation values of particular tangles of Wilson lines, and reduce to the standard rules at large Chern-Simons level. We present completely explicit results for the special case of two fundamental and two antifundamental insertions in $SU(N)_k$ and $U(N)_k$ theories. These formulae are consistent with the conjectured level-rank, Bose-Fermi duality between these theories and take the form of a $q=e^{\frac{ 2 πi }κ}$ deformation of their large $k$ counterparts. In the 't Hooft large $N$ limit our results reduce to standard rules with one twist: the $S$-matrix in the singlet channel is reduced by the factor $\frac{\sin πλ}{πλ} $ (where $λ$ is the 't Hooft coupling), explaining `anomalous' crossing properties observed in earlier direct large $N$ computations.

Categories of Kirchhoff relations

It is known that the category of affine Lagrangian relations, AffLagRel_F, over a field, F, of integers modulo a prime p (with p > 2) is isomorphic to the category of stabilizer quantum circuits for p-dits. Furthermore, it is known that electrical circuits (generalized for the field F) occur as a natural subcategory of AffLagRel_F. The purpose of this paper is to provide a characterization of the relations in this subcategory -- and in important subcategories thereof -- in terms of parity-check and generator matrices as used in error detection. In particular, we introduce the subcategory consisting of Kirchhoff relations to be (affinely) those Lagrangian relations that conserve total momentum or equivalently satisfy Kirchhoff's current law. Maps in this subcategory can be generated by electrical components (generalized for the field F): namely resistors, current dividers, and current and voltage sources. The "source" electrical components deliver the affine nature of the maps while current dividers add an interesting quasi-stochastic aspect. We characterize these Kirchhoff relations in terms of parity-check matrices and in addition, characterizes two important subcategories: the deterministic Kirchhoff relations and the lossless relations. The category of deterministic Kirchhoff relations as electrical circuits are generated by resistors circuits. Lossless relations, which are deterministic Kirchhoff, provide exactly the basic hyper-categorical structure of these settings.

An all order exact result for the anomalous dimension of the scalar primary in Chern Simons Vector Models

We present a conjecture for the leading $1/N$ anomalous dimension of the scalar primary operator in $U(N)_k$ Chern-Simons theories coupled to a single fundamental field, to all orders in the t'Hooft coupling $λ=\frac{N}{k}$. Following this we compute the anomalous dimension of the scalar in a Regular Bosonic theory perturbatively at two-loop order and demonstrate that matches exactly with the result predicted by our conjecture. We also show that our proposed expression for the anomalous dimension is consistent with all other existing two-loop perturbative results, which constrain its form at both weak and strong coupling thanks to the bosonization duality. Furthermore, our conjecture passes a novel non-trivial all loop test which provides a strong evidence for its consistency.

A Normal Form for Single-Qudit Clifford+$T$ Operators

We propose a normal form for single-qudit gates composed of Clifford and $T$-gates for qudits of odd prime dimension $p\geq 5$. We prove that any single-qudit Clifford+$T$ operator can be re-expressed in this normal form in polynomial time. We also provide strong numerical evidence that this normal form is unique. Assuming uniqueness, we are able to use this normal form to provide an algorithm for exact synthesis of any single-qudit Clifford+$T$ operator with minimal $T$-count.

Qutrit and Ququint Magic States

Non-stabilizer eigenstates of Clifford operators are natural candidates for endpoints of magic state distillation routines. We provide an explicit bestiary of all inequivalent non-stabilizer Clifford eigenstates for qutrits and ququints. For qutrits, there are four non-degenerate eigenstates, and two families of degenerate eigenstates. For ququints, there are eight non-degenerate eigenstates, and three families of degenerate eigenstates. Of these states, a simultaneous eigenvector of all Clifford symplectic rotations known as the qutrit strange state is distinguished as both the most magic qutrit state and the most symmetric qutrit state. We show that no analogue of the qutrit strange state (i.e., no simultaneous eigenvector of all symplectic rotations) exists for qudits of any odd prime dimension $d>3$.

Melonic Dominance in Subchromatic Sextic Tensor Models

We study tensor models based on $O(N)^r$ symmetry groups constructed out of rank-$r$ tensors with order-$q$ interaction vertices. We refer to those tensor models for which $r<q-1$ as \textit{subchromatic}. We focus most of our attention on sextic ($q=6$) models with maximally-single-trace interactions. We show that only three subchromatic sextic maximally-single-trace interaction vertices exist: these are the $r=3$ prism, the $r=3$ wheel (or $K_{3,3}$) and the $r=4$ octahedron. For theories based on these interactions we demonstrate that the set of Feynman diagrams that contribute to the free energy in the large $N$ limit are melonic (or closely related to melonic diagrams, in the case of the prism) and thus can be explicitly summed.

Magic State Distillation with the Ternary Golay Code

The ternary Golay code -- one of the first and most beautiful classical error-correcting codes discovered -- naturally gives rise to an 11-qutrit quantum error correcting code. We apply this code to magic state distillation, a leading approach to fault-tolerant quantum computing. We find that the 11-qutrit Golay code can distill the "most magic" qutrit state -- an eigenstate of the qutrit Fourier transform known as the strange state -- with cubic error-suppression and a remarkably high threshold. It also distills the "second-most magic" qutrit state, the Norell state, with quadratic error-suppression and an equally high threshold to depolarizing noise.
