Voltage-Regulated Photoluminescence Modulation in a 0D-2D Mixed Dimensional Heterostructure

Bias dependent oscillations in excitonic photoluminescence are observed in a mixed dimensional 0D 2D heterostructure. These oscillations arise from modulation by oscillatory DC photocurrent, which exhibits periodic negative differential resistance, indicating recurring charge accumulation within the heterostructure. The persistence of these oscillations across a macroscopic area of diameter around 200 microns suggests the presence of periodically correlated quantum phenomena over large length scales. Furthermore, bias dependent oscillations in the photo capacitance are observed, reflecting a periodic ordering and disordering of excitonic populations. Together, these observations point to a direct competition between coherent and incoherent electron tunnelling processes. The coupled oscillatory behaviour of photoluminescence, photocurrent, and photo capacitance highlights new opportunities for exciton-based quantum optoelectronic devices.

Direct determination of 2D Momentum Space from 2D Spatial Coherence of Light using a Modified Michelson Interferometer

Momentum space distributions of photons coming out of any light emitting materials/devices provide critical information about its underlying physical origin. Conventional methods of determining such properties impose specific instrumentational difficulties for probing samples kept within a low temperature cryostat. There were past studies to measure one dimensional (1D) coherence function which could then be used for extracting momentum space information as well as reports of measurements of just two dimensional (2D) coherence function. However, all of those are associated with additional experimental complexities. So, here we propose a simpler, modified Michelson interferometer based optical setup kept at room temperature outside the cryostat to initially measure the 2D coherence function of emitted light, which can then be used to directly estimate the 2D in-plane momentum space distribution by calculating its fast Fourier transform. We will also discuss how this experimental method can overcome instrumentational difficulties encountered in past studies.

Marginal quenches and drives in Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids

We study Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids thrown out of equilibrium by marginal deformations in the form of interaction modulations. This is modeled by quenching or periodically driving the Luttinger parameter or, equivalently, the compactification radius of the free boson conformal field theory between two different values. We obtain exact analytical results for the evolution of the Loschmidt echo and observables such as the particle and energy densities. Starting from generic initial states, the quench dynamics are shown to exhibit revivals and temporal orthogonalities. For the periodic drive, we show stability or instability of time-evolved physical quantities dependent on the drive parameters. We also compare the corresponding marginally deformed thermal density matrices by non-perturbatively evaluating their R\'{e}nyi divergence as a Euclidean quench. All the dynamics are shown to be crucially dependent on the ratio of the Luttinger parameters, which corresponds to the Zamolodchikov distance in the space of marginal deformations. Our setup is equivalently interpreted as the dynamics of the bosonic string upon instantaneous changes of the target-space radius.

How can one use a two component Bose Einstein condensates to operationally bypass the No Cloning theorem?

The No Cloning theorem in quantum cryptography prevents any eavesdropper from exactly duplicating an arbitrary quantum superposition state of a single photon. Here we argue that an experimental scheme to produce an interacting, two component Bose-Einstein condensates can, in principle, generate macroscopically large number of bosonic clones of any arbitrary single photon wave packet with high fidelity at large N limit of thermodynamic equilibrium using excitons or electron hole pairs. It is possible, because initially one can isolate the two orthogonal polarizations using polarizing beam splitters and then amplify the corresponding single photon wave packets identically but separately. This is to ensure that the amplified beams can be used to generate proportionately same, yet large numbers of bosons to produce two distinct but interacting condensates using additional light matter interactions within a semiconductor structure. One can then extract the cloned photons once the identical excitons in the two-component quantum ground state of the condensate radiatively recombine. Thus the overall cloning process can operationally bypass the restrictions imposed by the above mentioned theorem. This is because the quantum statistical nature of this proposed cloning operation does not require any strict unitary evolution of standard quantum mechanics within a single Hilbert space.

Operator growth in 2d CFT

We investigate and characterize the dynamics of operator growth in irrational two-dimensional conformal field theories. By employing the oscillator realization of the Virasoro algebra and CFT states, we systematically implement the Lanczos algorithm and evaluate the Krylov complexity of simple operators (primaries and the stress tensor) under a unitary evolution protocol. Evolution of primary operators proceeds as a flow into the 'bath of descendants' of the Verma module. These descendants are labeled by integer partitions and have a one-to-one map to Young diagrams. This relationship allows us to rigorously formulate operator growth as paths spreading along the Young's lattice. We extract quantitative features of these paths and also identify the one that saturates the conjectured upper bound on operator growth.

Dual Measurements of Temporal and Spatial Coherence of Light in a Single Experimental Setup using a Modified Michelson Interferometer

An experimental technique is developed to simultaneously measure both temporal and spatial coherences of a light source by altering a standard Michelson interferometer, which has been primarily used for measuring temporal coherence only. Instead of using simple plane mirrors, two retroreflectors and their longitudinal and lateral movements are utilized to incorporate spatial coherence measurement using this modified Michelson interferometer. In general, one uses Young double slit interferometer to measure spatial coherence. However, this modified interferometer can be used as an optical setup kept at room temperature outside a cryostat to measure spatio-temporal coherence of a light source placed at cryogenic temperatures. This avoids the added complexities of modulation of interference fringe patterns due to single slit diffraction as well. The process of mixing of spatial and temporal parts of coherences is intrinsic to existing methods for dual measurements. We addressed these issues of spatiotemporal mixing and we introduced a method of temporal filtering in spatial coherence measurements. We also developed a curve overlap method which is used to extend the range of the experimental setup during temporal coherence measurements without compromising the precision. Together, these methods provide major advantages over plane mirror based standard interferometric systems for dual measurements in avoiding systematic errors which lead to inaccuracies especially for light sources with low coherences.

Higher spin wormholes from modular bootstrap

We investigate the connection between spacetime wormholes and ensemble averaging in the context of higher spin AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$. Using techniques from modular bootstrap combined with some holographic inputs, we evaluate the partition function of a Euclidean wormhole in AdS$_3$ higher spin gravity. The fixed spin sectors of the dual CFT$_2$ exhibit features that starkly go beyond conventional random matrix ensembles: power-law ramps in the spectral form factor and potentials with a double-well/crest underlying the level statistics.

0D-2D Heterostructure for making very Large Quantum Registers using itinerant Bose-Einstein Condensate of Excitons

Presence of coherent resonant tunneling in quantum dot (zero-dimensional) - quantum well (two-dimensional) heterostructure is necessary to explain the collective oscillations of average electrical polarization of excitonic dipoles over a macroscopically large area. This was measured using photo excited capacitance as a function of applied voltage bias. Resonant tunneling in this heterostructure definitely requires momentum space narrowing of charge carriers inside the quantum well and that of associated indirect excitons, which indicates bias dependent itinerant Bose-Einstein condensation of excitons. Observation of periodic variations in negative quantum capacitance points to in-plane coulomb correlations mediated by long range spatial ordering of indirect, dipolar excitons. Enhanced contrast of quantum interference beats of excitonic polarization waves even under white light and observed Rabi oscillations over a macroscopically large area also support the presence of density driven excitonic condensation having long range order. Periodic presence (absence) of splitting of excitonic peaks in photocapacitance spectra even demonstrate collective coupling (decoupling) between energy levels of the quantum well and quantum dots with applied biases, which can potentially be used for quantum gate operations. All these observations point to experimental control of macroscopically large, quantum state of a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate of excitons in this quantum dot - quantum well heterostructure. Therefore, in principle, millions of two-level excitonic qubits can be intertwined to fabricate large quantum registers using such hybrid heterostructure by controlling the local electric fields and also by varying photoexcitation intensities of overlapping light spots.

The Schwarzian sector of higher spin CFTs

Two-dimensional conformal field theories with Virasoro symmetry generically contain a Schwarzian sector. This sector is related to the near-horizon region of the near-extremal BTZ black hole in the holographic dual. In this work we generalize this picture to CFTs with higher spin conserved currents. It is shown that the partition function in the near-extremal limit agrees with that of BF higher spin gravity in AdS$_2$ which is described by a generalized Schwarzian theory. We also provide a spectral decomposition of Schwarzian partition functions via the $\mathcal{W}_N$ fusion kernel and consider supersymmetric generalizations.

Characters of irrelevant deformations

We analyse the $T\bar{T}$ deformation of 2d CFTs in a special double-scaling limit, of large central charge and small deformation parameter. In particular, we derive closed formulae for the deformation of the product of left and right moving CFT characters on the torus. It is shown that the $1/c$ contribution takes the same form as that of a CFT, but with rescalings of the modular parameter reflecting a state-dependent change of coordinates. We also extend the analysis for more general deformations that involve $T\bar{T}$, $J\bar{T}$ and $T\bar{J}$ simultaneously. We comment on the implications of our results for holographic proposals of irrelevant deformations.

Geometrizing $T\bar{T}$

The $T\bar{T}$ deformation can be formulated as a dynamical change of coordinates. We establish and generalize this relation to curved spaces by coupling the undeformed theory to 2d gravity. For curved space the dynamical change of coordinates is supplemented by a dynamical Weyl transformation. We also sharpen the holographic correspondence to cutoff AdS$_3$ in multiple ways. First, we show that the action of the annular region between the cutoff surface and the boundary of AdS$_3$ is given precisely by the $T\bar{T}$ operator integrated over either the cutoff surface or the asymptotic boundary. Then we derive dynamical coordinate and Weyl transformations directly from the bulk. Finally, we reproduce the flow equation for the deformed stress tensor from the cutoff geometry.

Adding Flavor to the Narain Ensemble

We revisit the proposal that the ensemble average over free boson CFTs in two dimensions - parameterized by Narain's moduli space - is dual to an exotic theory of gravity in three dimensions dubbed $U(1)$ gravity. We consider flavored partition functions, where the usual genus $g$ partition function is weighted by Wilson lines coupled to the conserved $U(1)$ currents of these theories. These flavored partition functions obey a heat equation which relates deformations of the Riemann surface moduli to those of the chemical potentials which measure these $U(1)$ charges. This allows us to derive a Siegel-Weil formula which computes the average of these flavored partition functions. The result takes the form of a "sum over geometries," albeit with modifications relative to the unflavored case.

Phase Coherent Oscillations of Excitonic Photocapacitance and Bose-Einstein Condensation in Quantum Coupled 0D-2D Heterostructure

We report quantum coherent oscillations of photocapacitance of a double-barrier resonant tunneling heterostructure with bias at 10 K. Periodic presence and absence of sharp excitonic transitions in photocapacitance spectra with increasing bias demonstrate strong coupling between InAs quantum dots (0D) and triangular GaAs quantum well (2D). Coherent resonant tunneling in this 0D-2D heterostructure establishes the momentum space narrowing of excitonic Bose-Einstein Condensation. Drastic increase of indirect exciton densities below 70 K reveal that excitonic wave functions anchored with each InAs quantum dots can laterally overlap across wide region around 200 micron to create a macroscopic quantum state of excitonic Bose-Einstein condensate. This itself points out the difficulties encountered in the usual 2D-2D bilayers and coupled quantum well samples used earlier to study excitonic BEC. Finally, we predict how coupled quantum-dots and quantum-well heterostructures can display excitonic Bose-Einstein condensation at even higher temperatures.

Virasoro blocks and quasimodular forms

We analyse Virasoro conformal blocks in the regime of heavy intermediate exchange $(h_p \rightarrow \infty)$. For the 1-point block on the torus and the 4-point block on the sphere, we show that each order in the large-$h_p$ expansion can be written in closed form as polynomials in the Eisenstein series. The appearance of this structure is explained using the fusion kernel and, more markedly, by invoking the modular anomaly equations via the 2d/4d correspondence. We observe that the existence of these constraints allows us to develop a faster algorithm to recursively construct the blocks in this regime. We then apply our results to find corrections to averaged heavy-heavy-light OPE coefficients.

Quantum thermalization and Virasoro symmetry

We initiate a systematic study of high energy matrix elements of local operators in 2d CFT. Knowledge of these is required in order to determine whether the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) can hold in such theories. Most high energy states are high level Virasoro descendants, and by employing an oscillator representation of the Virasoro algebra we develop an efficient method for computing matrix elements of primary operators in such states. In parameter regimes where we expect (e.g. from AdS/CFT intuition) thermalization to occur, we observe striking patterns in the matrix elements: diagonal matrix elements are smoothly varying and off-diagonal elements, while nonzero, are power-law suppressed compared to the diagonal elements. We discuss the implications of these universal properties of 2d CFTs in regard to their compatibility with ETH.

Renyi divergences from Euclidean quenches

We study the generalisation of relative entropy, the Renyi divergence $D_α ( ρ||ρ_β) $ in 2$d$ CFTs between an excited state density matrix $ρ$, created by deforming the Hamiltonian, and the thermal density matrix $ρ_β$. Using the path integral representation of this quantity as a Euclidean quench, we obtain the leading contribution to the Renyi divergence for deformations by scalar primaries and by conserved holomorphic currents in conformal perturbation theory. Furthermore, we calculate the leading contribution to the Renyi divergence when the conserved current perturbations have inhomogeneous spatial profiles which are versions of the sine-square deformation (SSD). The dependence on the Renyi parameter ($α$) of the leading contribution have a universal form for these inhomogeneous deformations and it is identical to that seen in the Renyi divergence of the simple harmonic oscillator perturbed by a linear potential. Our study of these Renyi divergences shows that the family of second laws of thermodynamics, which are equivalent to the monotonicity of Renyi divergences, do indeed provide stronger constraints for allowed transitions compared to the traditional second law.

Semi-classical Virasoro blocks: proof of exponentiation

Virasoro conformal blocks are expected to exponentiate in the limit of large central charge $c$ and large operator dimensions $h_i$, with the ratios $h_i/c$ held fixed. We prove this by employing the oscillator formulation of the Virasoro algebra and its representations. The techniques developed are then used to provide new derivations of some standard results on conformal blocks.

Typicality and thermality in 2d CFT

We identify typical high energy eigenstates in two-dimensional conformal field theories at finite $c$ and establish that correlation functions of the stress tensor in such states are accurately thermal as defined by the standard canonical ensemble. Typical states of dimension $h$ are shown to be typical level $h/c$ descendants. In the AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence, it is such states that should be compared to black holes in the bulk. We also discuss the discrepancy between thermal correlators and those computed in high energy primary states: the latter are reproduced instead by a generalized Gibbs ensemble with extreme values chosen for the chemical potentials conjugate to the KdV charges.
