Chaotic inflation in higher derivative gravity theories

In this paper, we investigate chaotic inflation from scalar field subjected to potential in the framework of $f(R^2, P, Q)$-gravity, where we add a correction to Einstein's gravity based on a function of the square of the Ricci scalar $R^2$, the contraction of the Ricci tensor $P$, and the contraction of the Riemann tensor $Q$. The Gauss-Bonnet case is also discussed. We give the general formalism of inflation, deriving the slow-roll parameters, the $e$-folds number, and the spectral indexes. Several explicit examples are furnished, namely we will consider the cases of massive scalar field and scalar field with quartic potential and some power-law function of the curvature invariants under investigation in the gravitational action of the theory. Viable inflation according with observations is analyzed.

Coupled fluids model in FRW space-time

In this paper, we analyze a two coupled fluids model by investigating several solutions for accelerated universe in flat FRW space-time. One of the fluids can be identified with the matter and the model possesses the standard matter solution also. Beyond the removal of the coincidence problem, we will see how the coupling may change the description of the energy contents of the universe and which features can be aquired with respect to the standard decoupled cases.

Inhomogeneous viscous fluids in FRW universe and finite-future time singularities

We consider inhomogeneous viscous fluids in flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. We analyze different kinds of such fluids and investigate the possibility to reproduce the current cosmic acceleration providing a different future evolution with respect to the Cosmological Constant case. In particular, we study the presence of finite-future time singularities. We also discuss a general class of "integrable" viscous fluid models whose bulk viscosities obey to a common differential equation.

FRW cosmological models with integrable and nonintegrable differential equations of state

The basic models of modern cosmology work in FRW spacetime. Hence follows that it is important to study the physical and mathematical nature of FRW cosmological models. In this work, we consider FRW models with the differential equations of state. Some new classes integrable and nonintegrable FRW cosmological models were constructed. It is remarkable that all proposed integrable and nonintegrable FRW models admit exact solutions. For some of them, such exact solutions are presented. Some artificial two-dimensional FRW models were also proposed. Finally in Appendix, we extend the obtained results for g-essence models and for its two reductions: k-essence and f-essence.

Standing gravitational waves from domain walls

We construct a plane symmetric, standing gravitational wave for a domain wall plus a massless scalar field. The scalar field can be associated with a fluid which has the properties of `stiff' matter, i.e. matter in which the speed of sound equals the speed of light. Although domain walls are observationally ruled out in the present era the solution has interesting features which might shed light on the character of exact non-linear wave solutions to Einstein's equations. Additionally this solution may act as a template for higher dimensional 'brane-world' model standing waves.

Phantom thick brane in 5D bulk

A model of a thick brane in 5D bulk supported by two phantom scalar fields is considered. The comparison with a thick brane supported by two usual scalar fields is carried out. The distinctions between a thick brane supported by one usual scalar field and our model have been pointed out.
