How cosmological expansion affects communication between distant quantum systems

A quantum communication protocol between harmonic oscillator detectors, interacting with a quantum field, is developed in a cosmological expanding background. The aim is to see if the quantum effects arising in an expanding universe, such as the cosmological particle production, could facilitate the communication between two distant parts or if they provide an additive noisy effect. By considering a perfect cosmic fluid, the resulting expansion turns out to increase the classical capacity of the protocol. This increasing occurs for all the cosmological expansions unless the latter is sharpened just before the receiver's detector interacts with the field. Moreover, the classical capacity turns out to be sensible to the barotropic parameter $w$ of the perfect fluid and to the coupling between the field and the scalar curvature $ξ$. As a consequence, by performing this protocol, one can achieve information about the cosmological dynamics and its coupling with a background quantum field.

Making two particle detectors in flat spacetime communicate quantumly

A communication protocol with non-zero quantum capacity is found when the two communicating parts are particle detector models in (3+1)-dimensional spacetime. In particular, as detectors, we consider two harmonic oscillators interacting with a scalar field, whose evolution is generalized for whatever background spacetime and whatever spacetime smearing of the detectors. We then specialize to Minkowski spacetime and an initial Minkowski vacuum, considering a rapid interaction between the field and the two detectors, studying the case where the receiver is static and the sender is moving. The possibility to have a quantum capacity greater than zero stems from a relative acceleration between the detectors. Indeed, no reliable quantum communication is possible when the two detectors are static or moving inertially with respect to each other, but a reliable quantum communication can be achieved between a uniformly accelerated sender and an inertial receiver.

Horizon entanglement area law from regular black hole thermodynamics

We investigate the thermodynamics of regular black hole configurations via quantum analogs of entropy and energy -- namely, the entanglement entropy and entanglement energy -- near the event horizon of Bardeen and Hayward black holes. Following standard approaches, we introduce a quantum scalar field propagating in such black hole spacetimes and discretize the field degrees of freedom on a lattice of spherical shells. We observe that, at leading order, the entanglement entropy associated with the scalar field is proportional to Bekestein-Hawking entropy, while the corresponding entanglement energy scales proportionally to Komar energy. We then compute the heat capacity in both scenarios, discussing the black hole stability conditions and the possible appearance of second-order phase transitions. Finally, we extend our analysis to the black hole core, showing that in this sector entanglement energy serves as a valuable tool towards discriminating between singular and regular solutions.

Preserving quantum information in $f(Q)$ cosmology

The effects of cosmological expansion on quantum bosonic states are investigated, using quantum information theory. In particular, a generic Bogoliubov transformation of bosonic field modes is considered and the state change on a single mode is regarded as the effect of a quantum channel. Properties and capacities of this channel are thus explored in the framework of $f(Q)$ theories. As immediate result, we obtain that the information on a single-mode state appears better preserved, whenever the number of particles produced by the cosmological expansion is small. Hence, similarly to general relativity, we show that analogous particle productions result even if we consider symmetric teleparallel gravity theories. Thus, we investigate a power law $f(Q)$ model, leaving unaltered the effective gravitational coupling, and minimise the corresponding particle production. We thus show how to optimise the preservation of classical and quantum information, stored in a bosonic mode states in the remote past. Finally, we compare our findings with those obtained in general relativity.

Characterising the Haar measure on the $p$-adic rotation groups via inverse limits of measure spaces

We determine the Haar measure on the compact $p$-adic special orthogonal groups of rotations $\mathrm{SO}(d)_p$ in dimension $d=2,3$, by exploiting the machinery of inverse limits of measure spaces, for every prime $p>2$. We characterise $\mathrm{SO}(d)_p$ as inverse limits of finite groups, of which we provide parametrisations and orders, together with an equivalent description through a multivariable Hensel lifting. Supplying these finite groups with their normalised counting measures, we get an inverse family of Haar measure spaces for each $\mathrm{SO}(d)_p$. Finally, we constructively prove the existence of the so-called inverse limit measure of these inverse families, which is explicitly computable, and prove that it gives the Haar measure on $\mathrm{SO}(d)_p$. Our results pave the way towards the study of the irreducible projective unitary representations of the $p$-adic rotation groups, with potential applications to the recently proposed $p$-adic quantum information theory.

Invariant measures on p-adic Lie groups: the p-adic quaternion algebra and the Haar integral on the p-adic rotation groups

We provide a general expression of the Haar measure $-$ that is, the essentially unique translation-invariant measure $-$ on a $p$-adic Lie group. We then argue that this measure can be regarded as the measure naturally induced by the invariant volume form on the group, as it happens for a standard Lie group over the reals. As an important application, we next consider the problem of determining the Haar measure on the $p$-adic special orthogonal groups in dimension two, three and four (for every prime number $p$). In particular, the Haar measure on $\mathrm{SO}(2,\mathbb{Q}_p)$ is obtained by a direct application of our general formula. As for $\mathrm{SO}(3,\mathbb{Q}_p)$ and $\mathrm{SO}(4,\mathbb{Q}_p)$, instead, we show that Haar integrals on these two groups can conveniently be lifted to Haar integrals on certain $p$-adic Lie groups from which the special orthogonal groups are obtained as quotients. This construction involves a suitable quaternion algebra over the field $\mathbb{Q}_p$ and is reminiscent of the quaternionic realization of the real rotation groups. Our results should pave the way to the development of harmonic analysis on the $p$-adic special orthogonal groups, with potential applications in $p$-adic quantum mechanics and in the recently proposed $p$-adic quantum information theory.

Entanglement entropy for spherically symmetric regular black holes

The Bardeen and Hayward spacetimes are here considered as standard configurations of spherically symmetric regular black holes. Assuming the thermodynamics of such objects to be analogous to standard black holes, we compute the island formula in the regime of small topological charge and large vacuum energy, respectively for Bardeen and Hayward spacetimes. Late and early-time domains are separately discussed, with particular emphasis on the island formations. We single out conditions under which it is not possible to find out islands at early-times and how our findings depart from the standard Schwarzschild case. Motivated by the fact that those configurations extend Reissner-Nordström and Schwarzschild-de Sitter metrics through the inclusion of regularity behavior at $r=0$, we show how the effect of regularity induces modifications on the overall entanglement entropy. Finally, the Page time is also computed, showing its asymptotic behavior. Specifically, the Page time exhibits slight departures with respect to the Schwarzschild case, more evident in the Hayward metric only. Conversely, our findings on Page time show that the Bardeen regular black hole is quite indistinguishable from the Schwarzschild case.

Entanglement entropy in quantum black holes

We discuss the entanglement entropy for a massive Klein-Gordon field in two Schwarzschild-like quantum black hole spacetimes, also including a nonminimal coupling term with the background scalar curvature. To compute the entanglement entropy, we start from the standard spherical shell discretisation procedure, tracing over the degrees of freedom residing inside an imaginary surface. We estimate the free parameters for such quantum metrics through a simple physical argument based on Heisenberg uncertainty principle, along with alternative proposals as asymptotic safety, trace anomaly, and graviton corpuscular scaling. Our findings reveal a significant decrease in entropy compared to the area law near the origin for the quantum metrics. In both scenarios, the entanglement entropy converges to the expected area law sufficiently far from the origin. We then compare these results to the entropy scaling in regular Hayward and corrected-Hayward spacetimes to highlight the main differences with such regular approaches.

Information Disturbance Tradeoff in Bidirectional QKD

Making use of the Quantum Network formalism of \textit{Phys. Rev. A,} \textbf{82} (2010) 062305, we present the case for quantum networks with finite outcomes, more specifically one which could distinguish only between specific unitary operators in a given basis for operators. Despite its simplicity, we proceed to build a network derived from the optimal strategy in \textit{Phys. Rev. A,} \textbf{82} (2010) 062305 and show that the information-disturbance tradeoff in distinguishing between two operators acting on qubits, selected from mutually unbiased unitary bases is equal to the case of estimating an operator selected randomly from the set of SU($2$) based on the Haar measure. This suggests that such strategies in distinguishing between mutually unbiased operators is not any easier than estimating an operator derived from an infinite set. We then show how this network can be used as a natural attack strategy against a bidirectional quantum cryptographic protocol.

On the effectiveness of Bayesian discrete feedback for quantum information reclaiming

We consider discrete time feedback aimed at reclaiming quantum information after a channel action. We compare Bayesian and Markovian strategies. We show that the former does not offer any advantage for qubit channels, while its superior performance can appear in higher dimensional channels. This is witnessed by cases study for qutrit channels.

Superhorizon entanglement from inflationary particle production

We investigate entanglement generation between the sub- and super-Hubble modes of inflaton fluctuations, in the context of particle production from perturbations during inflation. We consider a large-field inflationary scenario where inflation is driven by a vacuum energy symmetry breaking potential and the scalar inflaton field is nonminimally coupled to spacetime curvature. In particular, we focus on the slow-roll phase, adopting a quasi-de Sitter scale factor to properly account for the presence of perturbations and computing the pair production probability associated to the coupling between the inflaton and spacetime inhomogeneities. The interaction Lagrangian at first order is constructed from inhomogeneities induced by the inflaton dynamics, and the initial Bunch-Davies vacuum state of the field evolves under the action of such Lagrangian. In this framework, we quantify the total amount of entanglement via the von Neumann entropy of the reduced density operator for superhorizon modes, tracing out sub-Hubble degrees of freedom. We then compare these outcomes with entanglement production for quadratic chaotic inflation and for a small-field quadratic hilltop scenario, preserving field-curvature coupling in both cases and pointing out the main differences between large and small-field approaches. We show that the amount of entanglement entropy arising from such geometric production grows rapidly in slow-roll regime and that it is typically higher in large-field scenarios. We also discuss our outcomes in light of recent findings for the squeezing entropy of cosmological perturbations and cubic nonlinearities in de Sitter space.

Profitable entanglement for channel discrimination

We investigate the usefulness of side entanglement in discriminating between two generic qubit channels, {\ up to unitary pre- and post-processing,} and determine exact conditions under which it does enhance (as well as conditions under which it does not) the success probability. This is done in a constructive way by first analyzing the problem for channels that are extremal in the set of completely positive and trace-preserving qubit linear maps and then for channels that are inside such a set.

Quantum reading of quantum information

We extend the notion of quantum reading to the case where the information to be retrieved, which is encoded into a set of quantum channels, is of quantum nature. We use two qubit unitaries describing the system environment interaction, with the initial environment state determining the system's input output channel and hence the encoded information. The performance of the most relevant two-qubit unitaries is determined with two different approaches: i) one-shot quantum capacity of the channel arising between environment and system's output; ii) estimation of parameters characterizing the initial quantum state of the environment. The obtained results are mostly in (qualitative) agreement, with some distinguishing features that include the CNOT unitary.

Routing a quantum state in a bio-inspired network

We consider a spin network resembling an $α$-helix structure and study quantum information transfer over this bio-inspired network. The model we use is the Davydov model in its elementary version without a phononic environment. We investigate analytically and numerically the perfect state transfer (PST) in such a network which provides an upper bound on the probability of quantum states transfer from one node to another. We study PST for different boundary conditions on the network and show it is reachable between certain nodes and with suitable spin-spin couplings.

Entanglement area law violation from field-curvature coupling

We investigate the entanglement entropy of a massive scalar field nonminimally coupled to spacetime curvature, assuming a static, spherically symmetric background. We discretize the field Hamiltonian by introducing a lattice of spherical shells and imposing a cutoff in the radial direction. We then study the ground state of the field and quantify deviations from area law due to nonminimal coupling, focusing in particular on Schwarzschild-de Sitter and Hayward spacetimes, also discussing de Sitter spacetime as a limiting case. We show that large positive coupling constants can significantly alter the entropy scaling with respect to the boundary area, even in case of small field mass. Our outcomes are interpreted in view of black hole entropy production and early universe scenarios.

Relativistic quantum communication between harmonic oscillator detectors

We propose a model of communication employing two harmonic oscillator detectors interacting through a scalar field in a background Minkowski spacetime. In this way, the scalar field plays the role of a quantum channel, namely a Bosonic Gaussian channel. The classical and quantum capacities of the communication channel are found, assuming that the detectors' spatial dimensions are negligible compared to their distance. In particular, we study the evolution in time of the classical capacity after the detectors-field interaction is switched on for various detectors' frequencies and coupling strengths with the field. As a result, we find a finite value of these parameters optimizing the communication of classical messages. Instead, a reliable communication of quantum messages turns out to be always inhibited.

Inflationary entanglement

We investigate the entanglement due to geometric corrections in particle creation during inflation. To do so, we propose a single-field inflationary scenario, nonminimally coupled to the scalar curvature of spacetime. We require particle production to be purely geometric, setting to zero the Bogolubov coefficients and computing the $S$ matrix associated to spacetime perturbations, which are traced back to inflaton fluctuations. The corresponding particle density leads to a nonzero entanglement entropy whose effects are investigated at primordial time of Universe evolution. The possibility of modeling our particle candidate in terms of dark matter is discussed. The classical back-reaction of inhomogeneities on the homogeneous dynamical background degrees of freedom is also studied and quantified in the slow-roll regime.
