Quarkonium dissociation in perturbative QCD

For weakly bound quarkonia, we rederive the next-to-leading order cross sections of quarkonium dissociation by partons that include the hard thermal loop (HTL) resummation. Our results calculated with an effective vertex from the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude reduce to those obtained by potential nonrelativistic QCD (pNRQCD) in the relevant kinematical limit, and they can be used in a wide temperature range applicable to heavy quark systems in heavy ion collisions. Based on the lattice computation of the temperature-dependent binding energy, our numerical analysis on $Υ(1S)$ indicates that at high temperature the dominant mechanism for quarkonium dissociation is inelastic parton scattering as expected in the quasifree approximation, while it is the gluo-dissociation at low temperature. By comparing with the momentum diffusion coefficient of a heavy quark, we discuss possible O(g) corrections to the next-to-leading order thermal width.

Masses of the doubly heavy tetraquarks in a constituent quark model

We perform a constituent quark model analysis for the masses of the doubly heavy tetraquark states $T_{QQ}$ after we fix the parameters to fit the masses of the newly observed $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ and hadrons involving heavy quarks relevant to the stability of these states. We investigate in detail how the relative distances between quark pairs vary as we change the quark content and how they affect the various contributions to the total tetraquark masses. We also find that our full calculations give in general less binding compared to simplified quark model calculations that treat quark dynamics inside the tetraquark the same as that inside a baryon. We trace the main origin to be the differences in the number of relative kinetic energies which increases as one goes from meson, baryon and tetraquarks. We also compare our new results with previous works using less constrained parameters and find that the tetraquark state $T_{bb}(ud\bar{b}\bar{b})$ and $T_{bb}(us\bar{b}\bar{b})$ are bound by 120.56 MeV and 7.3 MeV respectively.

QCD sum rules for the $Δ$ isobar in neutron matter

We study the properties of the $Δ$ isobar in the symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter using the QCD sum rules approach based on the energy dispersion relation. Allowing for different continuum thresholds for the polarization tensors with different dimensions, we find stable masses for the $Δ$ in both the vacuum and the medium. Compared to the nucleon case, we find that the vector repulsion is smaller for the $Δ$ while the scalar attraction is similar (75 MeV vector repulsion and 150 MeV scalar attraction in the symmetric matter). The smaller vector repulsion can be understood using the Pauli principle and a constituent quark model. Also the isospin dependence of the quasiparticle energy, which mainly comes from the vector self energy, is quite weak. We also allow for an explicit $π-N$ continuum contribution to the polarization function, but find its effect to be minimal. Phenomenological consequences of our results are discussed.

Analysis of the $b_1$ meson decay in local tensor bilinear representation

We explore the validity of vector meson dominance in the radiative decay of the $b_1(1235)$ meson. In order to explain the violation of the vector meson dominance hypothesis in this decay process, we investigate a model where the $b_1$ meson strongly couples with the local current in tensor bilinear representation. The tensor representation is investigated in the framework of the operator product expansion and we found a low energy decay process that does not follow the usual vector meson dominance hypothesis. The $ω$-like intermediate meson state of quantum numbers $I^G(J^{PC}) = 0^{-}(1^{--})$ is found to have a nontrivial role in the decay process of the $b_1$ meson. The spectral structure of the $ω$-like state is found to be close to a $π$-$ρ$ hybrid state, which provides a mechanism that evades the usual vector meson dominance hypothesis. Precise measurements of various decay channels of the $b_1$ meson are, therefore, required to unravel the internal structure of axial vector mesons.

Tribaryon configurations and the inevitable three nucleon repulsions at short distance

We decompose the tribaryon configuration in terms of SU(3) flavor and spin state and analyse their color-spin-flavor wave function following Pauli principle. By comparing the color-color and color-spin interactions of compact tribaryon configuration against the lowest three nucleon threshold within a constituent quark model, we show that the three nucleon forces have to be repulsive at short distance for all possible quantum numbers and all values of the SU(3) symmetry breaking parameter. Our work identifies the origin of the repulsive nuclear three body forces including the hyperons at short distance that are called for from phenomenological considerations starting from nuclear matter to the maximum mass of a neutron star.

Hadronic effects on the $cc\bar{q}\bar{q}$ tetraquark state in relativistic heavy ion collisions

We study the hadronic effects on the $cc\bar{q}\bar{q}$ tetraquark state by focusing on the $T_{cc}(1^+)$ meson during the hadronic stage of relativistic heavy ion collisions. We evaluate the absorption cross section of the $T_{cc}$ meson by pions in the quasi-free approximation, and investigate the time evolution of the $T_{cc}$ abundance in the hadronic medium based on the effective volume and temperature of the hadronic phase at both RHIC and LHC modelled by hydrodynamic calculations with the lattice equation of state. We probe two possible scenarios for the structure of $T_{cc}$, where it is assumed to be either a compact multiquark state or a larger sized molecular configuration composed of DD*. Our numerical results suggest that the hadronic effects on the $T_{cc}$ production is insignificant, and its final abundance depends on the initial yield of $T_{cc}$ produced from the quark-gluon plasma phase, which will depend on the assumed structure of the state.

Charmonium spectral functions in $\bar p A$ collision

We study the in-medium propagation of low-lying charmonium states: $J/Ψ$, $Ψ$(3686), and $Ψ$(3770) in a $\bar p$ Au $10$ GeV collision. This energy regime will be available for the PANDA experiment. The time evolution of the spectral functions of the charmonium states is studied with a BUU type transport model. We observe a substantial effect of the medium in the dilepton spectrum.

Delayed versus accelerated quarkonium formation in a magnetic field

Formation time of heavy quarkonia in a homogeneous magnetic field is analyzed by using a phenomenological ansatz of the vector current correlator. Because the existence of a magnetic field mixes vector quarkonia ($J/ψ$, $ψ^\prime$) and their pseudoscalar partners ($η_c$, $η_c^\prime$), the properties of the quarkonia can be modified through such a spin mixing. This means that the formation time of quarkonia is also changed by the magnetic field. We show the formation time of vector quarkonia is delayed by an idealized constant magnetic field, where the formation time of the excited state becomes longer than that of the ground state. As a more realistic situation in heavy-ion collisions, effects by a time-dependent magnetic field are also discussed, where delayed formation of $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime$ and very early formation of $η_c$ and $η_c^\prime$ are found.

Heptaquarks with two heavy antiquarks in a simple chromomagnetic model

We investigate the symmetry property and the stability of the heptaquark containing two identical heavy antiquarks using color-spin interaction. We construct the wave function of the heptaquark from the Pauli exclusion principle in the SU(3) breaking case. The stability of the heptaquark against the strong decay into one baryon and two mesons is discussed in a simple chromomagnetic model. We find that $q^2 s^3 \bar{s}^2$ with $I=0,S=\frac{5}{2}$ is the most stable heptaquark configuration that could be probed by reconstructing the $Λ+ϕ+ϕ$ invariant mass.

Light vector correlator in medium: Wilson coefficients up to dimension 6 operators

As an improvement of the QCD sum rule method to study modifications of light vector mesons in nuclear matter and/or at finite temperature, we calculate the Wilson coefficients of all independent gluonic non-scalar operators up to dimension 6 in the operator product expansion (OPE) of the vector channel for light quarks. To obtain the gluon part of the light quark OPE from the heavy quark one, we also compute the heavy quark expansion of the relevant quark condensates. Together with the results for the quark operators that are already available in the literature, this completes the OPE of the vector channel in a hot or dense medium for operators up to dimension 6.

Wilson coefficients of dimension 6 gluon operators with spin indices in the heavy quark current correlation functions

We calculate the Wilson coefficients of dimension 6 gluon operators with spin indices in the two point correlation function of the heavy scalar, pseudoscalar, and axialvector currents. Our result completes the list of all Wilson coefficients of gluon operators up to dimension 6 for the correlation functions between heavy quark currents without derivatives. We then use the result to investigate the stability of the QCD sum rule results for the $η_c$, $J/Ψ$, $χ_{c0}$, and $χ_{c1}$ mesons near $T_c$. While the inclusion of the dimension 6 operators increases the stability of the sum rules for all currents, all of them break down slightly above $T_c$ with that for the $J/ψ$ persisting to relatively highest temperature.

Exotic Hadrons from Heavy Ion Collisions

Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have indicated that some exotic hadrons may have already been produced. The present review is a summary of the current understanding of a selected set of exotic particle candidates that can be potentially measured in HIC. It also includes discussions on the production of exotic hadrons in HIC based on the coalescence and statistical models. A more detailed discussion leads to the conclusion that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state than that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers and/or a molecular configuration. Attention is also given to some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons that could be produced with sufficient abundance in HIC because of the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and LHC, making it possible to study them in these experiments. Further included in the discussion are the general formalism for the coalescence model that involves resonance particles and its implication on the present estimated yield for resonance production. Finally, a review is given on recent studies to constrain the hadron-hadron interaction through correlation measurements in HIC and their implications on the interpretation and the possible existence of exotic states in hadronic interactions.

$P_c(4380)$ in a constituent quark model

The constituent quark model with color-spin hyperfine potential is used to investigate the property of a compact pentaquark configuration with $J^p$=$3/2^-$ and isospin=1/2, which is the most likely quantum number of one of the recently observed exotic baryon states at LHCb. Starting from the characterization of the isospin, color, and spin states for the pentaquark configuration, we construct the total wave function composed of the spatial wave function, which we take to be symmetric and in S-wave, and the four orthogonal isospin $\otimes$ color $\otimes$ spin states that satisfy the Pauli principle. We then use the variational method to find a compact stable configuration. While there are compact configurations where the hyperfine potential is more attractive than the sum of $p$ and $J/ψ$ hyperfine potentials, we find that the ground state is the isolated $p$ and $J/ψ$ state. Furthermore, the mass of the excited state lies far above the observed pentaquark state leading us to conclude that the observed states can not be a compact multiquark configuration with $J^p$=$3/2^-$.

A novel probe of chiral restoration in nuclear medium

We propose measuring the mass shift and width broadening of the $f_1(1285)$ meson together with those of the $ω$ from a nuclear target as a means to experimentally probe the partial restoration of chiral symmetry inside the nuclear matter. The relation between the order parameter of chiral symmetry and the difference in the correlation functions of the $f_1(1285)$ current and the $ω$ current is discussed in the limit where the disconnected diagrams are neglected. A QCD sum rule analysis of the $f_1(1285)$ meson mass leads to about 100 MeV attraction in nuclear matter, which can be probed in future experiments.

QCD sum rules for the neutron, $Σ$, and $Λ$ in neutron matter

The nuclear density dependencies of the neutron and $Σ$ and $Λ$ hyperons are important inputs in the determination of the neutron star mass as the appearance of hyperons coming from strong attractions significantly changes the stiffness of the equation of state (EOS) at iso-spin asymmetric dense nuclear matter. In-medium spectral sum rules have been analyzed for the nucleon, $Σ$, and $Λ$ hyperon to investigate their properties up to slightly above the saturation nuclear matter density by using the linear density approximation for the condensates. The construction scheme of the interpolating fields without derivatives has been reviewed and used to construct a general interpolating field for each baryon with parameters specifying the strength of independent interpolating fields. Optimal choices for the interpolating fields were obtained by requiring the sum rules to be stable against variations of the parameters and the result to be consistent with known phenomenology. The optimized result shows that Ioffe's choice is not suitable for the $Λ$ hyperon sum rules. It is found that, for the $Λ$ hyperon interpolating field, the up and down quark combined into the scalar diquark structure $u^T C γ_5 d$ should be emphasized to ensure stable sum rules. The quasi-$Σ$ and -$Λ$ hyperon energies are always found to be higher than the quasineutron energy in the region $0.5 <ρ/ρ_0<1.5 $ where the linear density approximation in the sum-rule analysis is expected to be reliable.

Dibaryons with two strange quarks and one heavy flavor in a constituent quark model

We investigate the symmetry property and the stability of dibaryons containing two strange quarks and one heavy flavor with $I=\frac{1}{2}$. We construct the wave function of the dibaryon in two ways. First, we directly construct the color and spin state of the dibaryon starting from the four possible SU(3) flavor state. Second, we consider the states composed of five light quarks, and then construct the wave function of the dibaryon by adding one heavy quark. The stability of the dibaryon against the strong decay into two baryons is discussed by using variational method in a constituent quark model with confining and hyperfine potential. We find that for all configurations with S=0,1,2, the ground states of the dibaryons are the sum of two baryons, and there are no compact bound state that is stable against the strong decay.

D mesons in a magnetic field

We investigate the mass spectra of open heavy flavor mesons in an external constant magnetic field within QCD sum rules. Spectral ansätze on the phenomenological side are proposed in order to properly take into account mixing effects between the pseudoscalar and vector channels, and the Landau levels of charged mesons. The operator product expansion is implemented up to dimension-5 operators. As a result, we find for neutral D mesons a significant positive mass shift that goes beyond simple mixing effects. In contrast, charged D mesons are further subject to Landau level effects, which together with the mixing effects almost completely saturate the mass shifts obtained in our sum rule analysis.

Dibaryons with two strange quarks and total spin zero in a constituent quark model

We investigate the symmetry property and construct the wave function of the dibaryon states containing two strange quarks with S=0 in both the flavor SU(3) symmetric and breaking cases. We discuss how the color $\otimes$ isospin $\otimes$ spin states of dibaryon in the symmetry broking case of flavor SU(3) can be extracted from the fully antisymmetric states in flavor SU(3). The stability of the dibaryon against the strong decay into two baryons are then discussed, by using the variational method within a constituent quark model with a confining and color-spin interactions. To compare our results with that from lattice QCD in flavor SU(3) limit, we search for the stable H-dibaryon in a wide range of $π$ meson mass. We find that with the given potential, there is no compact six quark dibaryon state in the SU(3) flavor symmetry broken case with realistic quark masses as well as in flavor SU(3) symmetric case in a wide range of quark masses.
