Charmonium mass in hot and dense hadronic matter

We investigate mass shifts of charmonia driven by change of the gluon condensate below but near transition temperatures at finite baryonic chemical potential. Extending previous prescription on the relation between gluon condensates and thermodynamic quantities, we model the gluon condensates of hadronic matter at finite temperature and baryonic chemical potential such that the scalar gluon condensate fits with the latest lattice QCD data. By making use of the QCD sum rule and the second order Stark effect, we find that the smoother transition in the full QCD can lead to moderate mass shifts of charmonia even below the transition temperature. We also find larger mass shift at fixed temperature as chemical potential increases. Existing data on charmonium-charmonium ratio is found to be consistent with the statistical hadronization scenario including the obtained mass shift.

Contributions of hyperon-hyperon scattering to subthreshold cascade production in heavy ion collisions

Using a gauged flavor SU(3)-invariant hadronic Lagrangian, we calculate the cross sections for the strangeness-exchange reactions YY to NΞ(Y=Λ, Σ) in the Born approximation. These cross sections are then used in the Relativistic Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (RVUU) transport model to study Ξproduction in Ar+KCl collisions at incident energy of 1.76A GeV and impact parameter b=3.5 fm. We find that including the contributions of hyperon-hyperon scattering channels strongly enhances the yield of Ξ, leading to the abundance ratio Ξ^{-}/(Λ+Σ^{0})=3.38E-3, which is essentially consistent with the recently measured value of $(5.6 \pm 1.2_{-1.7}^{+1.8})\times 10^{-3}$ by the HADES collaboration at GSI.

Diquarks: a QCD sum rule perspective

We propose a phenomenological QCD sum rule with an explicit diquark field to investigate the essential ingredients inside the hadrons. Introducing the mass (m_ϕ) and the condensate (ϕ^2) for the diquark field as parameters in the model, we find that the sum rule works well for Lambda, Lambda_c and Lambda_b. This implies that these Lambda baryons can be represented by a diquark and a quark configuration. We also find that there is a duality relation among the parameters (m_ϕ, ϕ^2), for which the sum rule is equally good. In the limit when ϕ^2 =0 we find m_ϕ=0.4 GeV, which can be thought as the constituent diquark mass.

Studying Exotic Hadrons in Heavy Ion Collisions

We investigate the possibilities of using measurements in present and future experiments on heavy ion collisions to answer some longstanding problems in hadronic physics, namely identifying hadronic molecular states and exotic hadrons with multiquark components. The yields of a selected set of exotic hadron candidates in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed in the coalescence model in comparison with the statistical model. We find that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state, compared to that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers. We also find that some loosely bound hadronic molecules are formed more abundantly than the statistical model prediction by a factor of two or more. Moreover, due to the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and even larger numbers expected at LHC, some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons could be produced with sufficient abundance for detection, making it possible to study these new exotic hadrons in heavy ion collisions.

The flow of heavy flavor in hydrodynamics

The flow of charm is calculated in 2+1 ideal hydrodynamics by introducing the charge of $c\bar{c}$ pair assuming that the number of $c\bar{c}$ pairs is conserved in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It is found that the mean radial flow velocity of charm quarks is smaller than that of bulk matter by 10$\sim$15 \% and the measured $v_2$ of heavy-flavor electrons is reproduced up to $p_T^e=$ 1.5 GeV/c in Au+Au collision at RHIC. The same flow is applied to regenerated $J/ψ$ and its $v_2$ is discussed.

Multi-quark hadrons from Heavy Ion Collisions

Identifying hadronic molecular states and/or hadrons with multi-quark components either with or without exotic quantum numbers is a long standing challenge in hadronic physics. We suggest that studying the production of these hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions offer a promising resolution to this problem as yields of exotic hadrons are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model for hadron production, we find that compared to the case of a non-exotic hadron with normal quark numbers, the yield of an exotic hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multi-quark state and a factor of two or more larger when it is a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that due to the appreciable numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and even larger numbers expected at LHC, some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states could be produced and realistically measured in these experiments.

Exotics from Heavy Ion Collisions

Discriminating hadronic molecular and multi-quark states is a long standing problem in hadronic physics. We propose here to utilize relativistic heavy ion collisions to resolve this problem, as exotic hadron yields are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model, we find that the exotic hadron yield relative to the statistical model result is typically an order of magnitude smaller for a compact multi-quark state, and larger by a factor of two or more for a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states could be produced and realistically measured at RHIC and LHC.

A shear spectral sum rule in a non-conformal gravity dual

A sum rule which relates a stress-energy tensor correlator to thermodynamic functions is examined within the context of a simple non-conformal gravity dual. Such a sum rule was previously derived using AdS/CFT for conformal $\mathcal{N} = 4$ Supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, but we show that it does not generalize to the non-conformal theory under consideration. We provide a generalized sum rule and numerically verify its validity. A useful byproduct of the calculation is the computation of the spectral density in a strongly coupled non-conformal theory. Qualitative features of the spectral densities and implications for lattice measurements of transport coefficients are discussed.

$J/ψ$ production and elliptic flow in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Using a two-component model for charmonium production, which includes contributions from both the initial hard nucleon-nucleon scattering and from the regeneration in the quark-gluon plasma, we study the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ and elliptic flow $v_2$ of $J/ψ$ in relativistic heavy ion collisions. For the expansion dynamics of produced hot dense matter, we introduce a schematic fireball model with its transverse acceleration determined from the pressure gradient inside the fireball and azimuthally anisotropic expansion parameterized to reproduce measured $v_2$ of light hadrons. We assume that light hadrons freeze out at the temperature of 120 MeV while charmonia at 160 MeV, similar to the kinetic and chemical freeze-out temperatures in the statistical model, respectively. For the properties of charmonia in the quark-gluon plasma, we use the screening mass between their charm and anticharm quarks and their dissociation cross sections given by the perturbative QCD (pQCD) in the leading order and up to the next-to-leading order, respectively. For the relaxation time of charm and anticharm quarks in the quark-gluon plasma, we also use the one calculated in the leading order of pQCD. Modeling the effect of higher-order corrections in pQCD by introducing multiplicative factors to the dissociation cross section of charmonia and the elastic scattering cross sections of charm and anticharm quarks, we find that this effect is small for the $R_{AA}$ of $J/ψ$ as they suppress the number of initially produced $J/ψ$ but enhance the number of regenerated ones. The higher-order corrections increase, however, the $v_2$ of $J/ψ$. Our results suggest that the $v_2$ of $J/ψ$ can play an important role in discriminating between $J/ψ$ production from the initial hard collisions and from the regeneration in the quark-gluon plasma.

Heavy quarkonium correlators at finite temperature: QCD sum rule approach

We investigate the properties of heavy quarkonia at finite temperature in detail using QCD sum rules. Extending previous analyses, we take into account a temperature dependent effective continuum threshold and derive constraints on the mass, the width, and the varying effective continuum threshold. We find that at least one of these quantities of a charmonium changes abruptly in the vicinity of the phase transition. We also calculate the ratio of the imaginary time correlator to its reconstructed one, $G/G_{\text{rec}}$, by constructing a model spectral function and compare it to the corresponding lattice QCD results. We demonstrate that the almost constant unity of $G/G_{\text{rec}}$ can be obtained from the destructive interplay of the changes in each part of the spectral modification which are extracted from QCD sum rules.

New Charmonium States in QCD Sum Rules: a Concise Review

In the past years there has been a revival of hadron spectroscopy. Many interesting new hadron states were discovered experimentally, some of which do not fit easily into the quark model. This situation motivated a vigorous theoretical activity. This is a rapidly evolving field with enormous amount of new experimental information. In the present report we include and discuss data which were released very recently. The present review is the first one written from the perspective of QCD sum rules (QCDSR), where we present the main steps of concrete calculations and compare the results with other approaches and with experimental data.

$R_{AA}$ of $J/ψ$ near mid-rapidity in heavy ion collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV

We build up a model to reproduce the experimentally measured $R_{AA}$ of $J/ψ$ near midrapidty in Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV. The model takes into account the $J/ψ$ suppression from the quark-gluon plasma and hadron gas as well as the nuclear absorption of primordial charmonia and the regeneration effects at the hadronization stage, and hence is a generalization of the two component model introduced by Grandchamp and Rapp. The improvements in this work are twofold; the addition of the initial local temperature profile and a consistent use of QCD NLO formula for both the dissociation cross section in the hadron gas and the thermal decay widths in the quark-gluon plasma for the charmonium states. The initial local temperature profile is determined from the assumption that the local entropy density is proportional to a formula involving the number densities of the number of participants and of the binary collisions that reproduces the multiplicities of charged particles at chemical freeze-out. The initial local temperature profile brings about a kink in the $R_{AA}$ curve due to the initial melting of $J/ψ$. The initially formed fireball, composed of weakly interacting quarks and gluons with thermal masses that are extracted from lattice QCD, follows an isentropic expansion with cylindrical symmetry. The fit reproduces well the Au+Au as well as the Cu+Cu data. The same method is applied to predict the $R_{AA}$ expected from the Pb+Pb collision at LHC energy.

Isospin Matter in AdS/QCD

We study strange and isospin asymmetric matter in a bottom-up AdS/QCD model. We first consider isospin matter, which has served as a good testing ground for nonperturbative QCD. We calculate the isospin chemical potential dependence of hadronic observables such as the masses and the decay constants of the pseudo-scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons. We discuss a possibility of the charged pion condensation in the matter within the bottom-up AdS/QCD model. Then, we study the properties of the hadronic observables in strange matter. We calculate the deconfinement temperature in strange and isospin asymmetric matter. One of the interesting results of our study is that the critical temperature at a fixed baryon number density increases when the strangeness chemical potential is introduced. This suggests that if matter undergoes a first-order transition to strange matter, the critical temperature shows a sudden jump at the transition point.

Stable multiquark states with heavy quarks in a diquark model

Based on the color-spin interaction in diquarks, we argue why some multiquark configurations could be stable against strong decay when heavy quarks are included. After showing the stability of previously discussed states we identify new possible stable states. These are the $T^0_{cb}(ud \bar{c}\bar{b})$ tetraquark, the $Θ_{bs}(udus \bar{b})$ pentaquark and the $H_c(udusuc)$ dibaryon, and so forth.

Sigma meson in QCD sum rules using a two quark current with derivatives

We study the $σ$ meson in QCD sum rules using a two quark interpolating field with derivatives. In the constituent quark model, the $σ$ meson is composed of a quark and an antiquark in the relative p-wave state and is thus expected to have a larger overlap with an interpolating field that measures the derivative of the relative quark wave-function. While the sum rule with a current without derivatives gives a pole mass of around 1 GeV, the present sum rule with a derivative current gives a mass of around 550 MeV and a width of 400 MeV, that could be identified with the $σ$ meson.
