Thermodynamics of the dissipative cosmic fluid and stability criteria

The work deals with the thermodynamical aspects of the cosmic substratum which is dissipative in nature. For homogeneous and isotropic model of the Universe this dissipative phenomenon is effective bulk viscous pressure in nature and is related to the particle creation mechanism. Finally, the stability criteria for the thermal equilibrium has been analyzed and are presented in tabular form restricting the particle creation parameter or the variation of the equation of state parameter with the volume.

Cosmic evolution with a general Gaussian type scale factor

Here we present a simple model of cosmic evolution in Einstein gravity, with the cosmic substratum being composed of an inhomogeneous and anisotropic fluid. The scale factor is supposed to be of Gaussian type. In this framework we show the existence of a continuously evolving eternal universe with no singularity, beginning or end.

Non-minimally coupled scalar field in Kantowski--Sachs model and symmetry analysis

The paper deals with a non--minimally coupled scalar field in the background of homogeneous but anisotropic Kantowski--Sachs space--time model. The form of the coupling function of the scalar field with gravity and the potential function of the scalar field are not assumed phenomenologically, rather they are evaluated by imposing Noether symmetry to the Lagrangian of the present physical system. The physical system gets considerable mathematical simplification by a suitable transformation of the augmented variables $(a, b, ϕ)\rightarrow (u, v, w)$ and by the use of the conserved quantities due to the geometrical symmetry. Finally, cosmological solutions are evaluated and analyzed from the point of view of the present evolution of the Universe.

Tunnelling mechanism in non-commutative space with generalized uncertainty principle and Bohr-like black hole

The paper deals with non-thermal radiation spectrum by tunnelling mechanism with correction due to the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) in the background of non-commutative geometry. Considering the reformulation of the tunnelling mechanism by Banerjee and Majhi, the Hawking radiation spectrum is evaluated through the density matrix for the outgoing modes. The GUP corrected effective temperature and the corresponding GUP corrected effective metric in non-commutative geometry are determined using Hawking's periodicity arguments. Thus, we obtain further corrections to the non-strictly thermal black hole (BH) radiation spectrum which give new final distributions. Then, we show that the GUP and the non-commutative geometry modify the Bohr-like BH recently discussed in a series of papers in the literature. In particular, we find the intriguing result that the famous law of Bekenstein on the area quantization is affected neither by non-commutative geometry nor by the GUP. This is a clear indication of the universality of Bekenstein's result. In addition, we find that both the Bekentsein-Hawking entropy and the total BH entropy to third order approximation are still functions of the BH quantum level.

Study of thermal stability for different dark energy models

In the present work, we have made an attempt to investigate the dark energy possibility from the thermodynamical point of view. For this purpose, we have studied thermodynamic stability of three popular dark energy models in the framework of an expanding, homogeneous, isotropic and spatially flat FRW Universe filled with dark energy and cold dark matter. The models considered in this work are Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) model, Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG) model and Modified Chaplygin Gas (MCG) model. By considering the cosmic components (dark energy and cold dark matter) as perfect fluid, we have examined the constraints imposed on the total equation of state parameter ($w_{T}$) of the dark fluid by thermodynamics and found that the phantom nature ($w_{T}<-1$) is not thermodynamically stable. Our investigation indicates that the dark fluid models (CPL, GCG and MCG) are thermodynamically stable under some restrictions of the parameters of each model.

Perfect Fluid Cosmological Universes: One equation of state and the most general solution

Considering a homogeneous and isotropic universe characterized by the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) line element, in this work, we have prescribed a general formalism for the cosmological solutions when the equation of state of the cosmic substance follows a general structure $ϕ(p, ρ) = 0$, where $p$, $ρ$ are respectively the pressure and the energy density of the cosmic substance. Using the general formalism we recover some well known solutions, namely, when the cosmic substance obeys the linear equation of state, a Chaplygin type equation of state, or a nonlinear equation of state. Thus, the current work offers a new technique to solve the cosmological solutions without any prior relation between $p$ and $ρ$.

Evolving Cosmic Scenario in Modified Chaplygin Gas with Adiabatic Matter Creation

Modified Chaplygin Gas has been successful in describing the cosmic history of the universe from radiation to $Λ$CDM in standard cosmology, while particle creation mechanism in nonlinear thermodynamics can be used to explain inflation as well as late time acceleration. The present work is an attempt to explore the possibilities of obtaining an alternative explanations to cosmic evolution when modified Chaplygin gas is used in the context of particle creation mechanism.

Unified first law and some general prescription: a redefinition of surface gravity

The paper contains an extensive study of the unified first law (UFL) in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime model. By projecting the UFL along the Kodama vector the second Friedmann equation can be obtained. Also studying the UFL on the event horizon it is found that Clausius relation cannot be obtained from the UFL by projecting it along the tangent to the event horizon as it can be for the trapping horizon. However, it is shown in the present work that Clausius relation can be obtained by projecting the UFL along the Kodama vector on the horizon and the result is found to be true for any horizon. Finally motivated by the Unruh temperature for the Rindler observer, surface gravity is redefined and a Clausius relation is obtained from the UFL by projecting it along a vector analogous to the Kodama vector.

Dynamical analysis of interacting dark energy model in the framework of particle creation mechanism

In this work we present the cosmological dynamics of interacting dark energy models in the framework of particle creation mechanism. The particle creation mechanism presented here describes the true non equilibrium thermodynamics of the universe. In spatially flat Friedmann-Lema{\^ı}tre-Robertson-Walker universe considered here, the dissipative bulk viscous pressure is due to the non conservation of particle number. For simplicity, we assume that the creation of perfect fluid particles to be isentropic (adiabatic) and consequently the viscous pressure obeys a linear relationship with particle creation rate. Due to complicated nature of the Einstein's field equations, dynamical systems analysis has been performed to understand deeply about the cosmological dynamics. We have found some interesting cosmological scenarios like late-time evolution of universe dominated by dark energy which could mimic quintessence, cosmological constant or phantom field through a dark matter dominated era. We also obtained a possibility of crossing the phantom divide line which is favored by observations.

A study of charged cylindrical Gravitational collapse with dissipative fluid

The present works deals with gravitational collapse of cylindrical viscous heat conducting anisotropic fluid following the work of Misner and Sharp. Using Darmois matching conditions, the dynamical equations are derived and the effect of charge and dissipative quantities over the cylindrical collapse are analyzed. Finally, using the Miller-Israel-Steward causal thermodynamic theory, the transport equation for heat flux are derived and its influence on collapsing system has been studied.

A Study of Universal Thermodynamics in Massive Gravity: Modified Entropy on the Horizons

Universal thermodynamics for FRW model of the Universe bounded by apparent/event horizon has been considered for massive gravity theory. Assuming Hawking temperature and using the unified first law of thermodynamics on the horizon, modified entropy on the horizon has been determined. For simple perfect fluid with constant equation of state, generalized second law of thermodynamics and thermodynamical equilibrium have been examined on both the horizons.

Thermodynamics of the inhomogeneous perfect fluid LTB model: Modified Bekenstein-Hawking system

The present work deals with three alternative generalized Bekenstein-Hawking formulation of thermodynamical parameters namely entropy and temperature for the universal thermodynamical system bounded by a horizon in the frame work of inhomogeneous perfect fluid Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) model of the Universe. For the first choice, the first law of thermodynamics holds only for the trivial de Sitter case of the LTB model while we need restriction on the evolution of the horizon radius for the validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics. However, for the other two choices, the first law of thermodynamics holds with some specific (integral) form of the parameters involved but for generalized LTB models.

Quantum Tunnelling for Hawking Radiation from Both Static and Dynamic Black Holes

The paper deals with Hawking radiation from both a general static black hole and a nonstatic spherically symmetric black hole. In case of static black hole, tunnelling of nonzero mass particles is considered and due to complicated calculations, quantum corrections are calculated only up to the first order. The results are compared with those for massless particles near the horizon. On the other hand, for dynamical black hole, quantum corrections are incorporated using the Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation. It is found that different order correction terms satisfy identical differential equation and are solved by a typical technique. Finally, using the law of black hole mechanics, a general modified form of the black hole entropy is obtained considering modified Hawking temperature.

A new interacting two fluid model and its consequences

In the background of a homogeneous and isotropic spacetime with zero spatial curvature, we consider interacting scenarios between two barotropic fluids, one is the pressureless dark matter (DM) and the other one is dark energy (DE), in which the equation of state (EoS) in DE is either constant or time dependent. In particular, for constant EoS in DE, we show that the evolution equations for both fluids can be analytically solved. For all these scenarios, the model parameters have been constrained using the current astronomical observations from Type Ia Supernovae, Hubble parameter measurements, and baryon acoustic oscillations distance measurements. Our analysis shows that both for constant and variable EoS in DE, a very small but nonzero interaction in the dark sector is favored while the EoS in DE can predict a slight phantom nature, i.e. the EoS in DE can cross the phantom divide line `$-1$'. On the other hand, although the models with variable EoS describe the observations better, but the Akaike Information Criterion supports models with minimal number of parameters. However, it is found that all the models are very close to the $Λ$CDM cosmology.

A Comparative Study of Different Entropies in Fractal Universe

Here we make an attempt to extend the idea of generalized Hawking temperature and modified Bekenstein entropy at the event horizon in a fractal universe. The modified Hawking temperature and Bekenstein entropy are considered in the governing Friedmann equations, which is modified in the background of a fractal universe. The validity of the Generalized second law of thermodynamics\,(GSLT) and Thermodynamic Equilibrium\,(TE) have been examined and compared graphically in a fractal universe filled with a perfect fluid having the constant equation of state in three different generalized Bekenstein system.

A Study of Universal Thermodynamics in Lanczos-Lovelock gravity

A study of Universal thermodynamics is done in Lanczos-Lovelock gravity. The Universe is chosen as FRW model bounded by apparent or event horizon. The unified first law is examined, assuming extended Hawking temperature on the horizon. As a result there is a modification of Bekenstein entropy on the horizons. Further the validity of generalized second law of thermodynamics and thermodynamical equilibrium are also investigated for perfect fluid (with constant equation of state), modified chaplygin gas model and holographic dark energy model.

Universal thermodynamics in different gravity theories: Conditions for generalized second law of thermodynamics and thermodynamical equilibrium on the horizons

The present work deals with a detailed study of universal thermodynamics in different modified gravity theories. The validity of the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) and thermodynamical equilibrium (TE) of the Universe bounded by a horizon (apparent/event) in f(R)-gravity, Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, RS-II brane scenario and DGP brane model has been investigated. In the perspective of recent observational evidences, the matter in the Universe is chosen as interacting holographic dark energy model. The entropy on the horizons are evaluated from the validity of the unified first law and as a result there is a correction (in integral form) to the usual Bekenstein entropy. The other thermodynamical parameter namely temperature on the horizon is chosen as the recently introduced corrected Hawking temperature. The above thermodynamical analysis is done for homogeneous and isotropic flat FLRW model of the Universe. The restrictions for the validity of GSLT and the TE are presented in tabular form for each gravity theory. Finally, due to complicated expressions, the validity of GSLT and TE are also examined from graphical representation, using three Planck data sets.
