FlowForm: Synergizing Fluid Physics with Topological Consistency for Satellite Flood Synthesis

Developing robust flood assessment models requires high-quality paired satellite imagery, yet such data remain scarce for flood-specific image generation. Although generative models provide a promising means of data augmentation, existing methods often yield implausible spatial layouts of flooded regions and distort scene structures. We propose FlowForm, a framework for satellite flood synthesis that integrates SWE-inspired latent regularization with structure-aware conditioning. The Flood Descriptor Module (FDM) imposes differentiable penalties on residuals of the steady-state Shallow Water Equation in auxiliary latent fields at the diffusion bottleneck. The Terrain Anchor Adapter (TAA) injects depth, semantic, and edge features at four encoder scales of the U-Net. We further curate FloodScape, a large-scale, high-resolution dataset comprising paired satellite images acquired before and after disasters. In addition to standard image-generation metrics, we evaluate the consistency of flooded regions, zero-shot generalization to a geographically held-out flood event, and sensitivity to individual components. Across all reported comparisons, FlowForm achieves higher visual fidelity, greater similarity between paired images, and stronger consistency of flooded regions.

OpenEval: Benchmarking Chinese LLMs across Capability, Alignment and Safety

The rapid development of Chinese large language models (LLMs) poses big challenges for efficient LLM evaluation. While current initiatives have introduced new benchmarks or evaluation platforms for assessing Chinese LLMs, many of these focus primarily on capabilities, usually overlooking potential alignment and safety issues. To address this gap, we introduce OpenEval, an evaluation testbed that benchmarks Chinese LLMs across capability, alignment and safety. For capability assessment, we include 12 benchmark datasets to evaluate Chinese LLMs from 4 sub-dimensions: NLP tasks, disciplinary knowledge, commonsense reasoning and mathematical reasoning. For alignment assessment, OpenEval contains 7 datasets that examines the bias, offensiveness and illegalness in the outputs yielded by Chinese LLMs. To evaluate safety, especially anticipated risks (e.g., power-seeking, self-awareness) of advanced LLMs, we include 6 datasets. In addition to these benchmarks, we have implemented a phased public evaluation and benchmark update strategy to ensure that OpenEval is in line with the development of Chinese LLMs or even able to provide cutting-edge benchmark datasets to guide the development of Chinese LLMs. In our first public evaluation, we have tested a range of Chinese LLMs, spanning from 7B to 72B parameters, including both open-source and proprietary models. Evaluation results indicate that while Chinese LLMs have shown impressive performance in certain tasks, more attention should be directed towards broader aspects such as commonsense reasoning, alignment, and safety.

ICMC-ASR: The ICASSP 2024 In-Car Multi-Channel Automatic Speech Recognition Challenge

To promote speech processing and recognition research in driving scenarios, we build on the success of the Intelligent Cockpit Speech Recognition Challenge (ICSRC) held at ISCSLP 2022 and launch the ICASSP 2024 In-Car Multi-Channel Automatic Speech Recognition (ICMC-ASR) Challenge. This challenge collects over 100 hours of multi-channel speech data recorded inside a new energy vehicle and 40 hours of noise for data augmentation. Two tracks, including automatic speech recognition (ASR) and automatic speech diarization and recognition (ASDR) are set up, using character error rate (CER) and concatenated minimum permutation character error rate (cpCER) as evaluation metrics, respectively. Overall, the ICMC-ASR Challenge attracts 98 participating teams and receives 53 valid results in both tracks. In the end, first-place team USTCiflytek achieves a CER of 13.16% in the ASR track and a cpCER of 21.48% in the ASDR track, showing an absolute improvement of 13.08% and 51.4% compared to our challenge baseline, respectively.

RoleEval: A Bilingual Role Evaluation Benchmark for Large Language Models

The rapid evolution of large language models necessitates effective benchmarks for evaluating their role knowledge, which is essential for establishing connections with the real world and providing more immersive interactions. This paper introduces RoleEval, a bilingual benchmark designed to assess the memorization, utilization, and reasoning capabilities of role knowledge. RoleEval comprises RoleEval-Global (including internationally recognized characters) and RoleEval-Chinese (including characters popular in China), with 6,000 Chinese-English parallel multiple-choice questions focusing on 300 influential people and fictional characters drawn from a variety of domains including celebrities, anime, comics, movies, TV series, games, and fictions. These questions cover basic knowledge and multi-hop reasoning abilities, aiming to systematically probe various aspects such as personal information, relationships, abilities, and experiences of the characters. To maintain high standards, we perform a hybrid quality check process combining both automatic and human verification, ensuring that the questions are diverse, challenging, and discriminative. Our extensive evaluations with RoleEval across various open-source and proprietary large language models, under both the zero- and few-shot settings, reveal insightful findings. Notably, while GPT-4 outperforms other models on RoleEval-Global, Chinese large language models excel on RoleEval-Chinese, highlighting significant knowledge distribution differences. We expect that RoleEval would highlight the significance of assessing role knowledge for large language models across various languages and cultural settings.

Graph Computing based Fast Screening in Contingency Analysis

During last decades, contingency analysis has been facing challenges from significant load demand increase and high penetrations of intermittent renewable energy, fluctuant responsive loads and non-linear power electronic interfaces. It requires an advanced approach for high-performance contingency analysis as a safeguard of the power system operation. In this paper, a graph-based method is employed for N-1 contingency analysis (CA) fast screening. At first, bi-directional breadth-first search (BFS) is proposed and adopted on graph model to detect the potential shedding component in contingency analysis. It implements hierarchical parallelism of the graph traverse and speedup its process. Then, the idea of evolving graph is introduced in this paper to improve computation performance. For each contingency scenario, N-1 contingency graph quickly derives from system graph in basic status, and parallelly analyzes each contingency scenario using graph computing. The efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed approach have been tested and verified by IEEE 118-bus system and a practical case SC 2645-bus system.

Glasgow's Stereo Image Database of Garments

To provide insight into cloth perception and manipulation with an active binocular robotic vision system, we compiled a database of 80 stereo-pair colour images with corresponding horizontal and vertical disparity maps and mask annotations, for 3D garment point cloud rendering has been created and released. The stereo-image garment database is part of research conducted under the EU-FP7 Clothes Perception and Manipulation (CloPeMa) project and belongs to a wider database collection released through CloPeMa (www.clopema.eu). This database is based on 16 different off-the-shelve garments. Each garment has been imaged in five different pose configurations on the project's binocular robot head.
