Holographic complexity for Lifshitz system

The holographic complexity of a 3+1-dimensional Lifshitz spacetime having a scaling symmetry is computed. The change in the holographic complexity between the excited state and the ground state is then obtained. This is then related to the changes in the energy and the entanglement chemical potential of the system. The calculation is carried out for both the values of the dynamical scaling exponent z in the Lifshitz spacetime. The relations has a very similar form to the corresponding relation involving the change in entanglement entropy known to be an analogous relation to the first law of thermodynamics.

Noncommutative effects on holographic superconductors with power Maxwell electrodynamics

The matching method is employed to analytically investigate the properties of holographic superconductors in higher dimensions in the framework of power Maxwell electrodynamics taking into account the effects of spacetime noncommutativity. The relationship between the critical temperature and the charge density and the value of the condensation operator is obtained first. The Meissner like effect is then studied. The analysis indicate that larger values of the noncommutative parameter and the parameter $q$ appearing in the power Maxwell theory makes the condensate difficult to form. The critical magnetic field however increases with increase in the noncommutative parameter $θ$.

Equivalence principle in context of large uniform acceleration - a quantum mechanical perspective

We study the effect of large acceleration of an uniformly accelerated frame on the validity of weak equivalence principle. Specifically we demonstrate how the behaviour of free quantum particle, as observed by an observer with large uniform acceleration, completely changes from that of a quantum particle emmarsed in a uniform gravitational field. We also extend our analysis to the simplest noncommutative space scenario to show that while spatial noncommutativity does not affect the quantum particle in a gravitational field, it does alter the energy eigenvalues of a quantum particle as seen from a frame with very large uniform acceleration.

Interacting Chaplygin gas revisited

The implications of considering interaction between Chaplygin gas and a barotropic fluid with constant equation of state have been explored. The unique feature of this work is that assuming an interaction $Q \propto Hρ_d$, analytic expressions for the energy density and pressure have been derived in terms of the Hypergeometric $_2\text{F}_1$ function. It is worthwhile to mention that an interacting Chaplygin gas model was considered in 2006 by Zhang and Zhu, nevertheless, analytic solutions for the continuity equations could not be determined assuming an interaction proportional to $H$ times the sum of the energy densities of Chaplygin gas and dust. Our model can successfully explain the transition from the early decelerating phase to the present phase of cosmic acceleration. Arbitrary choice of the free parameters of our model through trial and error show at recent observational data strongly favors $w_m=0$ and $w_m=-\frac{1}{3}$ over the $w_m=\frac{1}{3}$ case. Interestingly, the present model also incorporates the transition of dark energy into the phantom domain, however, future deceleration is forbidden.

On the question of symmetries in non-relativistic diffeomorphism invariant theories

A novel algorithm is provided to couple a Galilean invariant model with curved spatial background by taking nonrelativistic limit of a unique minimally coupled relativistic theory, which ensures Galilean symmetry in the flat limit and canonical transformation of the original fields. That the twin requirements are fulfilled is ensured by a new field, the existence of which was demonstrated recently from Galilean gauge theory. The ambiguities and anomalies concerning the recovery of Galilean symmetry in the flat limit of spatial non relativistic diffeomorphic theories, reported in the literature, are focused and resolved from a new angle.

Non-linear effects on the holographic free energy and thermodynamic geometry

We have analytically investigated the effects of non-linearity on the free energy and thermodynamic geometry of holographic superconductors in $2+1 -$dimensions. The non-linear effect is introduced by considering the coupling of the massive charged scalar field with Born-Infeld electrodynamics. We then calculate the relation between critical temperature and charge density from two different methods, namely, the matching method and the divergence of the scalar curvature which is obtained by investigating the thermodynamic geometry of the model. The two results are slightly different from numerical values but the effects of non-linearity gets captured in our analysis.

Accretion onto a noncommutative inspired Schwarzschild black hole

In this paper we investigate the problem of ordinary baryonic matter accretion onto the noncommutative geometry inspired Schwarzschild black hole. The fundamental equations governing the spherically symmetric steady state matter accretion are deduced. These equations are seen to be modified due to the presence of noncommutativity. The matter accretion rate is computed and is found to increase rapidly with the increase in strength of the noncommutative parameter. The sonic radius reduces while the sound speed at the sonic point increases with the increase in the strength of noncommutativity. The profile of the thermal environment is finally investigated below the sonic radius and at the event horizon and is found to be affected by noncommutativity.

Thermodynamics and emergent universe

We show that in the isentropic scenario the first order thermodynamical particle creation model gives an emergent universe solution even when the chemical potential is non-zero. However there exists no emergent universe scenario in the second order non-equilibrium theory for the particle creation model. We then point out a correspondence between the particle creation model with barotropic equation of state and the equation of state giving rise to an emergent universe without particle creation in spatially flat FRW cosmology.

Emergent Universe with particle production

The possibility of an emergent universe solution to Einstein's field equations allowing for an irreversible creation of matter at the expense of the gravitational field is shown. With the universe being chosen as spatially flat FRW spacetime together with equation of state proposed in [17], the solution exists when the ratio of the phenomenological matter creation rate to the number density times the Hubble parameter is a number $β$ of the order of unity and independent of time. The thermodynamic behaviour is also determined for this solution. Interestingly, we also find that an emergent universe scenario is present with usual equation of state in cosmology when the matter creation rate is chosen to be a constant. More general class of emergent universe solutions are also discussed.

Thermodynamics of a charged particle in a noncommutative plane in a background magnetic field

Landau system in noncommutative space has been considered. To take into account the issue of gauge invariance in noncommutative space, we incorporate the Seiberg-Witten map in our analysis. Generalised Bopp-shift transformation is then used to map the noncommutative system to its commutative equivalent system. In particular we have computed the partition function of the system and from this we obtained the susceptibility of the Landau system and found that the result gets modified by the spatial noncommutative parameter $θ$. We also investigate the de Hass--van Alphen effect in noncommutative space and observe that the oscillation of the magnetization and the susceptibility gets noncommutative corrections. Interestingly, the susceptibility in the noncommutative scenario is non-zero in the range of the magnetic field greater than the threshold value which is in contrast to its commutative counterpart. The results obtained are valid upto all orders in the noncommutative parameter $θ$.

Holographic free energy and thermodynamic geometry

We analytically obtain the free energy and thermodynamic geometry of holographic superconductors in $2+1$-dimensions. The gravitational theory in the bulk dual to this $2+1$-dimensional strongly coupled theory lives in the $3+1$-dimensions and is that of a charged $AdS$ black hole together with a massive charged scalar field. The matching method is applied to obtain the nature of the fields near the horizon using which the holographic free energy is computed through the gauge/gravity duality. The critical temperature is obtained for a set of values of the matching point of the near horizon and the boundary behaviour of the fields. The thermodynamic geometry is then computed from the free energy of the boundary theory. From the divergence of the thermodynamic scalar curvature, the critical temperature is obtained once again. We then compare this result for the critical temperature with that obtained from the matching method.

Constraints on rainbow gravity functions from black hole thermodynamics

In this paper, we investigate the thermodynamic properties of black holes in the framework of rainbow gravity. By considering rainbow functions in the metric of Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes, remnant and critical masses are found to exist. Demanding the universality of logarithmic corrections to the semi-classical area law for the entropy leads to constraining the form of the rainbow functions. The mass output and the radiation rate for these constrained form of rainbow functions have been computed for different values of the rainbow parameter $η$ and have striking similarity to those derived from the generalized uncertainty principle.

Path-integral action of a particle in the noncommutative phase-space

In this paper we construct a path integral formulation of quantum mechanics on noncommutative phase-space. We first map the system to an equivalent system on the noncommutative plane. Then by applying the formalism of representing a quantum system in the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators acting on noncommutative configuration space, the path integral action of a particle is derived. It is observed that the action has a similar form to that of a particle in a magnetic field in the noncommutative plane. From this action the energy spectrum is obtained for the free particle and the harmonic oscillator potential. We also show that the nonlocal nature (in time) of the action yields a second class constrained system from which the noncommutative Heisenberg algebra can be recovered.

Response of simple quantum systems to different polarizations of gravitational waves in noncommutative phase-space

Owing to the extreme smallness of any noncommutative scale that may exist in nature, both in the spatial and momentum sector of the quantum phase-space, a credible possibility of their detection lies in the present day gravitational wave detector set-ups, which effectively detects the relative length-scale variations ${\cal{O}}\left[10^{-23} \right]$. With this motivation, we have considered how a free particle and harmonic oscillator in a quantum domain will respond to linearly and circularly polarized gravitational waves if the given phase-space has a noncommutative structure. The results show resonance behaviour in the responses of both free particle and HO systems to GW with both kind of polarizations. We critically analyze all the responses, and their implications in possible detection of noncommutativity. We use the currently available upper-bound estimates on various noncommutative parameters to anticipate the relative size of various response terms. We also argue how the quantum harmonic oscillator system we considered here can be very relevant in context of the resonant bar detectors of GW which are already operational currently.

Noncommutative effects of spacetime on holographic superconductors

The Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue method is employed to analytically investigate the properties of holographic superconductors in higher dimensions in the framework of Born-Infeld electrodynamics incorporating the effects of noncommutative spacetime. In the background of pure Einstein gravity in noncommutative spacetime, we obtain the relation between the critical temperature and the charge density. We also obtain the value of the condensation operator and the critical exponent. Our findings suggest that higher the value of noncommutative parameter and Born-Infeld parameter make the condensate harder to form. We also observe that the critical temperature depends on the mass of the black hole and higher value of black hole mass is favourable for the formation of the condensate.

Higher dimensional holographic superconductors in Born-Infeld electrodynamics with backreaction

In this paper, we analytically investigate the properties of holographic superconductors in higher dimensions in the framework of Born-Infeld electrodynamics taking into account the backreaction of the spacetime using the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue method. In the background of pure Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravity, based on a perturbative approach, we obtain the relation between the critical temperature and the charge density. Higher value of the backreaction and Born-Infeld parameters result in a harder condensation to form in both cases. The analytical results are found to agree with the existing numerical results. We also derive an expression for the condensation operator in $d$-dimensions which yields the critical exponent to be $1/2$.

Pauli equation on noncommutative plane and the Seiberg-Witten map

We study the Pauli equation in noncommutative two dimensional plane which exhibits the supersymmetry algebra when the gyro-magnetic ratio is $2$. The significance of the Seiberg-Witten map in this context is discussed and its effect in the problem is incorporated to all orders in $θ$. We map the noncommutative problem to an equivalent commutative problem by using a set of generalised Bopp-shift transformations containing a scaling parameter. The energy spectrum of the noncommutative Pauli Hamiltonian is obtained and found to be $θ$ corrected which is valid to all orders in $θ$.
