Evidence for $B^0 \to p\barΣ^0π^-$ at Belle

We search for the $B^0\to p\barΣ^0π^-$ decay with $\barΣ^0 \to \barΛγ$, where the $γ$ is not measured, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 $\rm{fb^{-1}}$ which contains 772 $\times$ $10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected around the $Υ$(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure for the first time the $B^0\to p\barΣ^0π^-$ branching fraction to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to p \barΣ^0 π^-) = (1.17^{+0.43}_{-0.40}(\text{stat})\pm 0.07(\text{syst})) \times 10^{-6}$ with a significance of $3.0σ$. We simultaneously measure the branching fraction for the related channel $B^{0}\to p\barΛπ^{-}$ with much improved precision.

First Simultaneous Determination of Inclusive and Exclusive $\left|V_{ub}\right|$

The first simultaneous determination of the absolute value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $V_{ub}$ using inclusive and exclusive decays is performed with the full Belle data set at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb${}^{-1}$. We analyze collision events in which one $B$ meson is fully reconstructed in hadronic modes. This allows for the reconstruction of the hadronic $X_u$ system of the semileptonic $b \to u \ell \bar ν_\ell$ decay. We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| / \left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = 0.97 \pm 0.12$ is compatible with unity.

First measurement of the Q^2 distribution of X(3915) single-tag two-photon production

We report the first measurement of the $Q^2$ distribution of $X(3915)$ produced by single-tag two-photon interactions. The decay mode used is $X(3915) \rightarrow J/ψω$. The covered $Q^2$ region is from 1.5 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ to 10.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$. We observe $7.9\pm 3.1({\rm stat.})\pm 1.5({\rm syst.})$ events, where we expect $4.1\pm 0.7$ events based on the $Q^2=0$ result from the no-tag two-photon process, extrapolated to higher $Q^2$ region using the $c\bar{c}$ model of Schuler, Berends, and van Gulik. The shape of the distribution is also consistent with this model; we note that statistical uncertainties are large.

Study of the lineshape of $X(3872)$ using $B$ decays to $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}K$

We present a study of the $X(3872)$ lineshape in the decay $B \to X(3872)K\to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}K$ using a data sample of $772\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The peak near the threshold in the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ invariant mass spectrum is fitted using a relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape. We determine the mass and width parameters to be $m = 3873.71 ^{+0.56}_{-0.50} ({\rm stat}) \pm0.13 ({\rm syst}) ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and $Γ_0 = 5.2 ^{+2.2}_{-1.5} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.4 ({\rm syst})~{\rm MeV}$, respectively. The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb.

Search for the decay $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}τ^{+}τ^{-}$ at the Belle experiment

This letter presents a search for the rare flavor-changing neutral current process $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}τ^{+}τ^{-}$ using data taken with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The analysis is based on the entire $Υ(4S)$ resonance data sample of 711 $\rm fb^{-1}$, corresponding to $772\times 10^{6} B \bar{B}$ pairs. In our search we fully reconstruct the companion $B$ meson produced in the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΥ(4S)\rightarrow B\bar{B}$ from its hadronic decay modes, and look for the decay $B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}τ^{+}τ^{-}$ in the rest of the event. No evidence for a signal is found. We report an upper limit on the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}({B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}τ^{+}τ^{-}})<3.1\times 10^{-3}$ at 90\% confidence level. This is the first direct limit on $\mathcal{B}({B^{0}\rightarrow K^{\ast 0}τ^{+}τ^{-}})$.

First measurement of the $B^{+}\toπ^{+}π^{0}π^{0}$ branching fraction and \textit{CP} asymmetry

We study $B^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}π^{0}$ using 711 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We measure an inclusive branching fraction of $(19.0\pm 1.5\pm 1.4)\times 10^{-6}$ and an inclusive \textit{CP} asymmetry of $(9.2 \pm 6.8 \pm 0.7)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic; and a $B^{+}\to ρ(770)^{+}π^{0}$ branching fraction of $(11.2\pm 1.1\pm 0.9 ^{+0.8}_{-1.6})\times 10^{-6}$, where the third uncertainty is due to possible interference with $B^{+}\to ρ(1450)^{+}π^{0}$. We present the first observation of a structure around 1 GeV/$c^{2}$ in the $π^{0}π^{0}$ mass spectrum, with a significance of 6.4$σ$, and measure a branching fraction to be $(6.9\pm 0.9\pm 0.6)\times 10^{-6}$. We also report a measurement of local \textit{CP} asymmetry in this structure.

Search for lepton-flavor-violating $τ$ decays into a lepton and a vector meson using the full Belle data sample

Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of $τ$ lepton decays into a light charged lepton ($\ell$ = $e^{\pm}$ or $μ^{\pm}$) and a vector meson ($V^0$ = $ρ^0$, $ϕ$, $ω$, $K^{\ast0}$, or $\overline{K}{}^{\ast0}$) using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events is observed, and thus 90% credibility level upper limits are set on the $τ\rightarrow \ell V^0$ branching fractions in the range of (1.7--$4.3) \times 10^{-8}$. These limits are improved by 30% on average from the previous results.

Oxygen on-site Coulomb energy in Pr$_{1.3-x}$La$_{0.7}$Ce$_x$CuO$_{4}$ and Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ and its relation with Heisenberg exchange

We study the electronic structure of electron-doped Pr$_{1.3-x}$La$_{0.7}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ (PLCCO ; $T_{c}$ = 27 K, x = 0.1) and hole-doped Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi2212 ; $T_{c}$ = 90 K) cuprate superconductors using x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant photoemission spectroscopy (Res-PES). From Res-PES across the O K-edge and Cu L-edge, we identify the O 2p and Cu 3d partial density of states (PDOS) and their correlation satellites which originate in two-hole Auger final states. Using the Cini-Sawatzky method, analysis of the experimental O 2p PDOS shows an oxygen on-site Coulomb energy for PLCCO to be $U_{p}$ = 3.3$\pm$0.5 eV and for Bi2212, $U_{p}$ = 5.6$\pm$0.5 eV, while the copper on-site Coulomb correlation energy, $U_{d}$ = 6.5$\pm$0.5 eV for Bi2212. The expression for the Heisenberg exchange interaction $J$ in terms of the electronic parameters $U_{d}$, $U_{p}$, charge-transfer energy $Δ$ and Cu-O hopping $t_{pd}$ obtained from a simple Cu$_2$O cluster model is used to carry out an optimization analysis consistent with $J$ known from scattering experiments. The analysis also provides the effective one band on-site Coulomb correlation energy $\tilde{U}$ and the effective hopping $\tilde{t}$. PLCCO and Bi2212 are shown to exhibit very similar values of $\tilde{U}$/$\tilde{t}$ $\sim$9-10, confirming the strongly correlated nature of the singlet ground state in the effective one-band model for both the materials.

Angular analysis of the low $K^{+}K^{-}$ invariant mass enhancement in $B^{+}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}$ decays

We study the decay $B^{+} \to K^+ K^- π^+$ and investigate the angular distribution of $K^{+}K^{-}$ pairs with invariant mass below $1.1$ GeV/$c^2$. This region exhibits both a strong enhancement in signal and very large direct $CP$ violation. We construct a coherent sum model for the angular distribution of $S$- and $P$-wave, and report the ratio of their amplitudes, the relative phase and the forward-backward asymmetry. We also report absolute differential branching fractions and direct $CP$ asymmetry for the decay in bins of $M_{K^+K^-}$ and the differential branching fractions in bins of $M_{K^+π^-}$. The results are based on a data sample that contains $772\times10^6$ $B \bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The measured overall branching fraction and the direct $CP$ asymmetry are $(5.38\pm0.40\pm0.35)\times 10^{-6}$ and $-0.170\pm0.073\pm0.017$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Measurement of the $B^+/B^0$ production ratio in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance using $B \rightarrow J/ψ(\ell\ell) K$ decays at Belle

We measure the ratio of branching fractions for the $Υ(4S)$ decays to $B^+B^-$ and $B^0\bar{B}{}^0$ using $B^+ \rightarrow J/ψ(\ell\ell) K^+$ and $B^0 \rightarrow J/ψ(\ell\ell) K^0$ samples, where $J/ψ(\ell\ell)$ stands for $J/ψ\to \ell^+\ell^-$ ($\ell = e$ or $μ$), with $711$ fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector. We find the decay rate ratio of $Υ(4S) \rightarrow B^+B^-$ over $Υ(4S) \rightarrow B^0\bar{B}{}^0$ to be $1.065\pm0.012\pm 0.019 \pm 0.047$, which is the most precise measurement to date. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the third uncertainty is systematic due to the assumption of isospin symmetry in $B \to J/ψ(\ell\ell) K$.

Search for $X(3872)\toπ^+π^-π^0$ at Belle

We do not observe a signal, and set 90\% credible upper limits for two different models of the decay processes: if the decay products are distributed uniformly in phase space, $\mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to π^+π^-π^0) < 1.3\%$; if $M(π^+π^-)$ is concentrated near the mass of the $D^0 \bar D^0$ pair in the process $X(3872)\to D^0\bar{D}^{*0}+c.c.\to D^0 \bar D^{0}π^0\toπ^+ π^- π^0$, $\mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to π^+π^-π^0) < 1.2\times10^{-3}$.

Search for $C\!P$ violation and measurement of branching fractions and decay asymmetry parameters for $Λ_c^+\toΛh^+$ and $Λ_c^+\toΣ^{0} h^+$ ($h\!=\!K,\,π$)

We report a study of $Λ_c^+\toΛh^+$ and $Λ_c^+\toΣ^{0} h^+$ ($h\!=\!K,\,π$) decays based on a data sample of 980~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. The first results of direct $C\!P$ asymmetry in two-body singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decays of charmed baryons are measured, $A_{C\!P}^{\rm{dir}}(Λ_c^+\toΛK^+)\!=\!+0.021\pm0.026\pm0.001$ and $A_{C\!P}^{\rm{dir}}(Λ_c^+\toΣ^0K^+)\!=\!+0.025\pm0.054\pm0.004$. We also make the most precise measurement of the decay asymmetry parameters ($α$) for the four modes of interest and search for $C\!P$ violation via the $α$-induced $C\!P$ asymmetry ($A_{C\!P}^α$). We measure $A_{C\!P}^α(Λ_c^+\toΛK^+)\!=\!{-0.023\pm0.086\pm0.071}$ and $A_{C\!P}^α(Λ_c^+\toΣ^0K^+)\!=\!{+0.08\pm 0.35\pm 0.14}$, which are the first $A_{C\!P}^α$ results for SCS decays of charmed baryons. We search for $Λ$-hyperon $C\!P$ violation in $Λ_c^+\to(Λ,\,Σ^0)π^+$ and find $A_{C\!P}^α(Λ\to pπ^{-})\!=\!{+0.013\pm0.007\pm0.011}$. This is the first time that hyperon $C\!P$ violation has been measured via Cabibbo-favored charm decays. No evidence of baryon $C\!P$ violation is found. We also obtain the most precise branching fractions for two SCS $Λ_c^+$ decays, $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\toΛK^+)\!=\!(6.57\pm0.17\pm0.11\pm0.35)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\toΣ^0K^+)\!=\!(3.58\pm0.19\pm0.06\pm0.19)\times10^{-4}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic, while the third uncertainties come from the uncertainties on the world average branching fractions of $Λ_c^+\to(Λ,\,Σ^0)π^+$.

Measurement of two-photon decay width of $χ_{c2}(1P)$ in $ γγ\rightarrow χ_{c2}(1P) \rightarrow J/ψγ$ at Belle

Measurement of Differential Distributions of $B \to D^* \ell \bar ν_\ell$ and Implications on $|V_{cb}|$

We present a measurement of the differential shapes of exclusive $B\to D^* \ell \barν_\ell$ ($B = B^-, \bar{B}^0 $ and $\ell = e, μ$) decays with hadronic tag-side reconstruction for the full Belle data set of $711\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute branching fractions to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN} = (40.1\pm0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL} = (40.6\pm 0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ with the zero-recoil lattice QCD point $\mathcal{F}(1) = 0.906 \pm 0.013$. We also perform a study of the impact of preliminary beyond zero-recoil lattice QCD calculations on the $|V_{cb}|$ determinations. Additionally, we present the lepton flavor universality ratio $R_{eμ} = \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* e \barν_e) / \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* μ\barν_μ) = 0.990 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.023$, the electron and muon forward-backward asymmetry and their difference $ΔA_{FB}=0.022\pm0.026\pm 0.007$, and the electron and muon $D^*$ longitudinal polarization fraction and their difference $ΔF_L^{D^*} = 0.034 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.007$. Evidence for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Ω^0_c\toΞ^-π^+$ and search for $Ω^0_c\toΞ^-K^+$ and $Ω^-K^+$ decays at Belle

Measurements of branching fractions of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$ and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ and asymmetry parameters of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$, $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$, and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$

We report a study of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$, $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$, and $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ using the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions relative to $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0$ are measured as: $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=0.25 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.01$ and $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=0.33 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.02$. Using $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}=(1.25 \pm 0.10)\%$, we obtain $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}=(3.14 \pm 0.35 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.25)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}=(4.16 \pm 0.75 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.33)\times10^{-3}$. Here the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ π^0}$, respectively. The ratio of the branching fraction of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'$ with respect to that of $Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η$ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η'}/\mathcal{B}_{Λ_c^+ \to Σ^+ η}=1.34 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06$.
