Thermodynamical limit in non-extensive and Renyi statistics

Previous results on Renyi and Wang's formalism of the Tsallis thermostatics are founded by using an extensive variable z connected to the entropic parameter q. It is shown that in the thermodynamical limit both the Tsallis and Renyi entropies are extensive functions of state and the temperature of the system is intensive. In this limit Wang's incomplete nonextensive statistics resembles the Tsallis one, but the Renyi thermostatics is reduced to the usual Boltzmann-Gibbs one. The principle of additivity and the zeroth law of thermodynamics in the canonical ensemble are demonstrated on the particular example of the classical ideal gas of identical particles.

Equation of state for distributed mass quark matter

We investigate how the QCD equation of state can be reconstructed by a continous mass distribution of non-interacting ideal components. We find that adjusting the mass scale as a function of the temperature leads to results which are conform to the quasiparticle model, but a temperature independent distribution also may fit lattice results. The fitted mass distribution tends to show a mass gap, supporting the physical picture of the quark coalescence in hadronization.

Numerical simulation of non-extensive Boltzmann equation

We present first results of the development of a test particle simulation for solving non-extensive extensions of the elastic two-particle Boltzmann equation. Stationary one-particle energy distributions with power-law tail are obtained.

Power-law tailed spectra from equilibrium

We propose that power-law tailed hadron spectra may be viewed as stemming from a matter in an unconventional equilibrium state typical for non-extensive thermodynamics. A non-extensive Boltzmann equation, which is able to form such spectra as a stationary solution, is utilized as a rough model of quark matter hadronization. Basic ideas about non-extensive simulation of the QCD equation of state on the lattice are presented.

Two generalizations of the Boltzmann equation

We connect two different generalizations of Boltzmann's kinetic theory by requiring the same stationary solution. Non-extensive statistics can be produced by either using corresponding collision rates nonlinear in the one-particle densities or equivalently by using nontrivial energy composition rules in the energy conservation constraint. Direct transformation formulas between key functions of the two approaches are given.

Introduction to statistical models and non-extensive statistics

Quark matter is being expected to be found in heavy ion collisions on the basis of calculations in the framework of traditional, extensive thermodynamics. Recently a non-extensive generalization of the thermodynamics is emerging in the theoretical research. We review here some basic concepts in statistics, kinetic theory and thermodynamics, in particular those encountered in non-extensive thermodynamics. This offers an introduction into the theoretical basis of considering non-extensive parton kinetics for describing the hadronization of quark matter.

Hamiltonian Dynamics of Yang-Mills Fields on a Lattice

We review recent results from studies of the dynamics of classical Yang-Mills fields on a lattice. We discuss the numerical techniques employed in solving the classical lattice Yang-Mills equations in real time, and present results exhibiting the universal chaotic behavior of nonabelian gauge theories. The complete spectrum of Lyapunov exponents is determined for the gauge group SU(2). We survey results obtained for the SU(3) gauge theory and other nonlinear field theories. We also discuss the relevance of these results to the problem of thermalization in gauge theories.

Non-extensive Boltzmann Equation and Hadronization

For a general, associative addition rule defining a non-extensive thermodynamics we construct the strict monotonic function, which transforms it to an additive quantity. We investigate the evolution of one-particle distributions in the framework of a two-body Boltzmann equation supported with a non-extensive energy addition rule. In particular we study the emergence of a Tsallis distribution as a stationary solution. We propose that for describing the hadronization of quark matter non-extensive rules may apply.

Properties of quark matter produced in heavy ion collision

We describe the hadronization of quark matter assuming that quarks creating hadrons coalesce from a continuous mass distribution. The pion and antiproton spectrum as well as the momentum dependence of the antiproton to pion ratio are calculated. This model reproduces fairly well the experimental data at RHIC energies.

Non-Gibbs Particle Spectra from Thermal Equilibrium

We propose that transverse momentum spectra with power-law tails observed in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions can be interpreted as originating in a medium in thermal equilibrium. General conditions on the dynamical equations are formulated, leading in equilibrium to various energy distributions of particles. Starting with the linear Fokker-Planck equation we analyze conditions for Boltzmann-Gibbs, Tsallis, or other equilibrium distributions based upon the dependence of fluctuation and dissipation on the energy of the observed subsystem. RHIC neutral pion data definitely exclude Boltzmann-Gibbs distribution over the entire range of observed transverse momenta.

Extensive Renyi Statistics from Non-Extensive Entropy

We show that starting with either the non-extensive Tsallis entropy in Wang's formalism or the extensive Renyi entropy, it is possible to construct the equilibrium statistical mechanics with non-Gibbs canonical distribution functions. The transformation formulas between Tsallis statistics and Renyi statistics are presented. The one-particle distribution function in Renyi statistics with extensive entropy for the classical ideal gas at finite particle number develops a power-law tail for high momenta.

What is the temperature in heavy ion collisions?

We consider the Tsallis distribution as the source of the apparent slope of one-particle spectra in heavy-ion collisions and investigate the equation of state of this special quark matter in the framework of non-extensive thermodynamics.

A Non-Extensive Model for Quark Matter Produced in Heavy Ion Collisions

We describe quark matter in the framework of non-extensive thermodynamics. We point out that partcile spectra with power-law tail lead to an increased energy and entropy per particle. This way even a massless plasma may give E/N = 1 GeV at T = 175 MeV temperature, alike thermal hadronic fits to RHIC experiment. In this case E/NT = 6 instead of 3.

Beyond Quantum Field Theory: Chaotic Lattices?

We review the idea of chaotic quantization, based on the dynamics of classical lattice gauge systems as well as on non-abelian plasma physics in the infrared limit. The basic conjecture between Planck constant and properties of the five dimensional classical theory (h=aT) is demonstrated numerically for the U(1) lattice gauge group.

Strange Quark Matter Theory

Theoretical approaches to strange and other types of quark matter accounted for at the SQM2003 Meeting are reviewed. They range from simple statistical models through perturbative QCD supported mico-dynamical simulations til lattice gauge theory and astrophysics results. Finally some ideas for future research in this field are outlined.

Chaotic Quantization: Maybe the Lord plays dice, after all?

We argue that the quantized non-Abelian gauge theory can be obtained as the infrared limit of the corresponding classical gauge theory in a higher dimension. We show how the transformation from classical to quantum field theory emerges, and calculate Planck's constant from quantities defined in the underlying classical gauge theory.

Faces of quark matter

Based on an analysis in the framework of a coalescence hadronization model (ALCOR) we conclude that in heavy ion collisions at CERN SPS and RHIC energies a new type of matter, the massive quark-antiquark matter is produced.
