One Model, Multiple Goals: Adaptive Multi-Objective Learning for E-commerce Dialogue Systems

Dialogue systems in e-commerce scenarios often need to satisfy multiple objectives: accurately reasoning over user profiles (e.g., eligibility, credit limit) to ensure correct decision-making and user state interpretation, while also generating natural and faithful responses. These goals are complementary but not identical. In this work, we propose MORE, an adaptive Multi-Objective REinforcement learning framework that jointly optimizes reasoning accuracy and linguistic naturalness. Our preliminary experiments show that directly mixing rewards with diverging optimization dynamics can cause oscillations and unstable learning. Thus, instead of optimizing a single mixed reward, we treat reasoning functions as constraints that guide policy optimization. At inference time, the system directly generates responses without explicit reasoning steps, while still benefiting from reasoning-enhanced scaffold and avoiding additional inference overhead. To better balance linguistic objectives during response generation, we introduce an adaptive multi-reward mechanism that aggregates signals such as fluency and naturalness and dynamically reweighs them via gradient feedback. We evaluate MORE on two real-world dialogue systems at ByteDance and the MultiWOZ 2.2 benchmark, where it consistently outperforms strong baselines. In 14-day online experiments on ByteDance production traffic, MORE improves overall and reached conversion by 16.53% and 30.09%, while increasing user satisfaction and reducing handoff rates. Notably, in a human-machine comparison, MORE recovers about 60% of the incremental conversion lift achieved by human agents.

Drive high power UVC-LED wafer into low-cost 4-inch era: effect of strain modulation

Ultraviolet-C light-emitting diodes (UVC-LEDs) have great application in pathogen inactivation under various kinds of situations, especially in the fight against the COVID-19. Unfortunately, its epitaxial wafers are so far limited to 2-inch size, which greatly increases the cost of massive production. In this work, we report the 4-inch crack-free high-power UVC-LED wafer. This achievement relies on a proposed strain-tailored strategy, where a three-dimensional to two-dimensional (3D-2D) transition layer is introduced during the homo-epitaxy of AlN on high temperature annealed (HTA)-AlN template, which successfully drives the original compressive strain into tensile one and thus solves the challenge of realizing high quality Al$_{0.6}$Ga$_{0.4}$N layer with a flat surface. This smooth Al$_{0.6}$Ga$_{0.4}$N layer is nearly pseudomorphically grown on the strain-tailored HTA-AlN template, leading to 4-inch UVC-LED wafers with outstanding performances. Our strategy succeeds in compromising the bottlenecked contradictory in producing large-sized UVC-LED wafer on pronounced crystalline AlN template: The compressive strain in HTA-AlN allows for crack-free 4-inch wafer, but at the same time leads to a deterioration of the AlGaN morphology and crystal quality. The launch of 4-inch wafers makes the chip fabrication process of UVC-LEDs matches the mature blue one, and will definitely speed up the universal of UVC-LED in daily life.

Light mediators in dark matter direct detections

In an extended effective operator framework, we investigate in detail the effects of light mediators on the event spectra of dark matter (DM)-nucleus scatterings. The presence of light mediators changes the interpretation of the current experimental data, especially the determination of DM particle mass. We show by analytic and numerical illustrations that for all the operators relevant to spin-independent scatterings, the DM particle mass allowed by the data increases significantly when the mediator particle becomes lighter. For the data of CDMS-II-Si, the allowed DM particle mass can reach $\sim 50$ GeV, depending on the type of operators, and the increase of DM particle mass saturates when the mediator mass is below $\mathcal{O}(10)$ MeV. The upper limits from other experiments such as SuperCDMS, CDMSlite, CDEX, XENON10/100, LUX, PandaX etc. all tend to be weaker toward high DM mass regions. In a combined analysis, we show that the presence of light mediators can partially relax the tension in the current results of CDMS-II-Si, SuperCDMS and LUX.

Strongly first order phase transition in the singlet fermionic dark matter model after LUX

We investigate an extension of the standard model (SM) with a singlet fermionic dark matter (DM) particle which interacts with the SM sector through a real singlet scalar. The presence of a new scalar provides the possibility of generating a strongly first order phase transition needed for electroweak baryogenesis. Taking into account the latest Higgs search results at the LHC and the upper limits from the DM direct detection experiments especially that from the LUX experiment, and combining the constraints from the LEP experiment and the electroweak precision test, we explore the parameter space of this model which can lead to the strongly first order phase transition. Both the tree- and loop-level barriers are included in the calculations. We find that the allowed mass of the second Higgs particle is in the range $\sim 30-350\hbox{ GeV}$. The allowed mixing angle $\alpha$ between the SM-like Higgs particle and the second Higgs particle is constrained to $\alpha \lesssim 28^{\circ}$. The DM particle mass is predicted to be in the range $\sim 15-350\hbox{ GeV}$. The future XENON1T experiment can rule out a significant proportion of the parameter space of this model. The constraint can be relaxed only when the mass of the SM-like Higgs particle is degenerate with that of the second Higgs particle, or the mixing angle is small enough.
