Determination of $α_s$ from static QCD potential with renormalon subtraction

We determine the strong coupling constant $α_s(M_Z)$ from the static QCD potential by matching a lattice result and a theoretical calculation. We use a new theoretical framework based on operator product expansion (OPE), where renormalons are subtracted from the leading Wilson coefficient. We find that our OPE prediction can explain the lattice data at $Λ_{\rm QCD} r \lesssim 0.8$. This allows us to use a larger window in matching, which leads to a more reliable determination. We obtain $α_s(M_Z)=0.1179^{+0.0015}_{-0.0014}$.

$B \to D^{(*)}\ellν$ form factors from $N_f\!=\!2+1$ QCD with Möbius domain-wall quarks

We report on our study of the B \to D^(*) \ell νsemileptonic decays at zero and nonzero recoils in 2+1 flavor QCD. The Möbius domain-wall action is employed for light, charm and bottom quarks at lattice cutoffs 1/a = 2.5 and 3.6 GeV. We take bottom quark masses up to \approx 2.4 times the physical charm mass to control discretization effects. The pion mass is as low as M_π\sim 310 MeV. We present our preliminary results for the relevant form factors and discuss the violation of heavy quark symmetry, which is a recent important isuue on the long-standing tension in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cb}| between the exclusive and inclusive decays.

Heavy quark scaling of $B\toπ\ellν$ form factors with Möbius domain wall fermions

We report on the progress of our calculation of form factors for the exclusive semileptonic decay of $B$ mesons to pions on $2+1$ flavour lattices with spacings from $0.080~\mathrm{fm}$ down to $0.044~\mathrm{fm}$. Using the Möbius domain wall fermion action for all quarks, we simulate pions with masses down to $230~\mathrm{MeV}$ and extrapolate to the physical bottom quark mass by utilizing a range of heavy quark masses up to $2.44$ times the mass of the charm quark. We discuss the dependence on the pion mass, heavy quark mass and lattice spacing in our form factors results.

Nucleon charges with dynamical overlap fermions

We calculate the scalar and tensor charges of the nucleon in 2+1-flavor lattice QCD, for which the systematics of the renormalization of the disconnected diagram is well controlled. Numerical simulations are performed at a single lattice spacing a = 0.11 fm. We simulate four pion masses, which cover a range of $m_π\sim$ 290 - 540 MeV, and a single strange quark mass close to its physical value. The statistical accuracy is improved by employing the so-called low-mode averaging technique and the truncated solver method. We study up, down, and strange quark contributions to the nucleon charges by calculating disconnected diagrams using the all-to-all quark propagator. Chiral symmetry is exactly preserved by using the overlap quark action to avoid operator mixing among different flavors, which complicates the renormalization of scalar and tensor matrix elements and leads to possibly large contamination to the small strange quark contributions. We also study the nucleon axial charge with contribution from the disconnected diagram. Our results are in reasonable agreement with experiments and previous lattice studies.

Topological susceptibility in 2+1-flavor QCD with chiral fermions

We compute the topological susceptibility $χ_t$ of 2+1-flavor lattice QCD with dynamical Möbius domain-wall fermions, whose residual mass is kept at 1 MeV or smaller. In our analysis, we focus on the fluctuation of the topological charge density in a "slab" sub-volume of the simulated lattice, as proposed by Bietenholz et al. The quark mass dependence of our results agrees well with the prediction of the chiral perturbation theory, from which the chiral condensate is extracted. Combining the results for the pion mass $M_π$ and decay constant $F_π$, we obtain $χ_t$ = 0.227(02)(11)$M_π^2 F_π^2$ at the physical point, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

D meson semileptonic form factors in Nf=3 QCD with Möbius domain-wall quarks

We present our calculation of D \to pi and D \to K semileptonic form factors in Nf = 2+1 lattice QCD. We simulate three lattice cutoffs 1/a \sim 2.5, 3.6 and 4.5 GeV with pion masses as low as 230 MeV. The Möbius domain-wall action is employed for both light and charm quarks. We present our results for the vector and scalar form factors and discuss their dependence on the lattice spacing, light quark masses and momentum transfer.

$B \rightarrow π\ell ν$ with Möbius Domain Wall Fermions

We report on the status of our calculation of the exclusive semileptonic decay, $B\rightarrow π\ell ν$; a key process in the determination of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$. The Möbius domain wall action is used for both light and heavy quarks on gauge ensembles that include the effects of $2+1$ flavours of quarks in the sea at three values of the lattice spacing: $a\approx 0.08~\mathrm{fm}$, $a\approx0.055~\mathrm{fm}$, and $a\approx0.044~\mathrm{fm}$. Pion masses go down to $300~\mathrm{MeV}$ while heavy quarks masses are as large as $2.44m_c$. We present preliminary results of form factors from this process, showing dependence on momentum transfer, lattice spacing, and the heavy quark mass.

Current correlators in the coordinate space at short distances

We calculate the vector and axial-vector current correlators in the coordinate space and compare them with the experimental information obtained through the spectral functions of hadronic tau decays measured by ALEPH. Lattice data are obtained with 2+1 Mobius domain-wall fermions at three lattice spacings 0.044, 0.055 and 0.080 fm and the continuum limit is taken. The correlators calculated on the lattice after extrapolating to the physical point agree with those converted from the ALEPH data.

Stochastic calculation of the Dirac spectrum on the lattice and a determination of chiral condensate in 2+1-flavor QCD

We compute the chiral condensate in 2+1-flavor QCD through the spectrum of low-lying eigenmodes of Dirac operator. The number of eigenvalues of the Dirac operator is evaluated using a stochastic method with an eigenvalue filtering technique on the background gauge configurations generated by lattice QCD simulations including the effects of dynamical up, down and strange quarks described by the Mobius domain-wall fermion formulation. The low-lying spectrum is related to the chiral condensate, which is one of the leading order low-energy constants in chiral effective theory, as dictated by the Banks-Casher relation. The spectrum shape and its dependence on the sea quark masses calculated in numerical simulations are consistent with the expectation from one-loop chiral perturbation theory. After taking the chiral limit as well as the continuum limit using the data at three lattice spacings ranging 0.080-0.045 fm, we obtain $Σ^{1/3}$(2 GeV) = 270.0(4.9) MeV, with the error combining those from statistical and from various sources of systematic errors. Finite volume effect is confirmed to be under control by a direct comparison of the results from two different volumes at the lightest available sea quarks corresponding to 230 MeV pions.

Improved lattice fermion action for heavy quarks

We develop an improved lattice action for heavy quarks based on Brillouin-type fermions, that have excellent energy-momentum dispersion relation. The leading discretization errors of $O(a)$ and $O(a^2)$ are eliminated at tree-level. We carry out a scaling study of this improved Brillouin fermion action on quenched lattices by calculating the charmonium energy-momentum dispersion relation and hyperfine splitting. We present a comparison to standard Wilson fermions and domain-wall fermions.

Timelike pion form factor in lattice QCD

We perform a nonperturbative lattice calculation of the complex phase and modulus of the pion form factor in the timelike momentum region using the finite-volume technique. We use two ensembles of 2+1-flavor overlap fermion at pion masses m_pi = 380 and 290 MeV. By calculating the I = 1 correlators in the center-of-mass and three moving frames, we obtain the form factor at ten different values of the timelike momentum transfer around the vector resonance. We compare the results with the phenomenological model of Gounaris-Sakurai and its variant.

Charm physics with Moebius Domain Wall Fermions

We present results showing that Domain Wall fermions are a suitable discretisation for the simulation of heavy quarks. This is done by a continuum scaling study of charm quarks in a Möbius Domain Wall formalism using a quenched set-up. We find that discretisation effects remain well controlled by the choice of Domain Wall parameters preparing the ground work for the ongoing dynamical $2+1f$ charm program of RBC/UKQCD.

We present scaling studies for heavy-quark observables calculated with an $O(a^2)$-improved fermion action on tree-level Symanzik improved gauge configurations. Lattices of $1/a = $ 2.0-3.8 GeV with an equal physical volume 1.6 fm are used. The results are compared with the standard domain-wall and naive Wilson fermions.

Axial U(1) symmetry at finite temperature with Möbius domain-wall fermions

We investigate the axial $U(1)$ symmetry restoration at finite temperature in two flavor QCD. We employ the Möbius domain-wall formalism that is designed to achieve good chiral symmetry. We show the measurements of a difference of meson susceptibilities, sensitive to the $U(1)_A$ symmetry breaking. The signal is dominated by zero and near-zero modes. By reweighting the measure to that of overlap fermions we find a suppression of the $U(1)_A$ breaking effects above the chiral transition temperature.

Precise determination of V_ud and V_us

The actual limit of the unitarity condition of the first row of the CKM matrix |V_ud|^2+|V_us|^2+|V_ub|^2=1+Δ_CKM is Δ_CKM=-0.0001(6). In 2010 the same was Δ_CKM=+0.0001(6). Despite the only difference of a sign, and with an absolute change of the value of one third of the accuracy, a substantial amount of work has been done in the last two years to improve the knowledge of all the contributions to this stringent limit to CKM unitarity, and more is expected in the next years. In this paper we present an organized summary of all the important contributions presented during the WG1 sessions, referring as much as possible to the contribution papers prepared by the individual authors.
