Axion and the Supermassive Black Holes at high $z$

Axion dark matter (DM) is studied on the formation of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) at high red shift $z$. It is shown that the attractive self interaction of this DM may solve the tension between the high angular momentum of SMBH and its early time formation. We consider the ultra-light axion DM around $O(10^{-21})$ eV as its origin, which may also cause nano-Hz stochastic gravitational wave background recently observed.

Insights from the magnetic field dependence of the muonium-to-antimuonium transition

The muonium-to-antimuonium transition experiment is about to be updated. Notably, the experiment at J-PARC in Japan can explore the magnetic field dependence of the transition probability. In this paper, we investigate the information that we can extract from the transition probabilities across different magnetic field strengths, while also taking into account a planned transition experiment at CSNS in China. There are two model-independent parameters in the transition amplitude, and we ascertain the feasibility of determining these parameters, including their relative physical phase, from experimental measurements. This physical phase can be related to the electron electric dipole moment, which is severely constrained by experiments. The underlying mediator responsible for the transition can be either doubly charged particles or neutral particles. In the former case, typical magnetic fields yield specific probability ratios, while the latter presents a range of the probability ratio. We investigate several models with neutral mediators, and elucidate that the probability ratio is linked to the sign of new physics contribution to the electron $g-2$. The pivotal role of the J-PARC transition experiment in shedding light on these insights is emphasized.

Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay and $<η>$ Mechanism in the Left-Right Symmetric Model

The neutrinoless double beta ($0νββ$) decay is studied in the framework of left-right symmetric model. The coexistence of left and right handed currents induces rather complicated interactions in the mixing of lepton and hadrons, called $<λ>$ mechanism and $<η>$ mechanism in addition to the conventional effective neutrino mass $ $ mechanism. In this letter we indicate the possible magnification of $<η>$ mechanism and importance to survey $0νββ$ decay of different nuclei for specifying New Physics beyond the Standard Model.

Neutrinoless double beta decay and the muonium-to-antimuonium transition in models with a doubly charged scalar

The lepton number and flavor violations are important possible ingredients of the lepton physics. The neutrinoless double beta decay and the transition of the muonium into antimuonuim are related to those violations. The former can give us an essential part of fundamental physics, and there are plenty of experimental attempts to observe the process. The latter has also been one of the attractive phenomena, and the experimental bound will be updated in planned experiments at new high-intensity muon beamlines. In models with a doubly charged scalar, not only can those two processes be induced, but also the active neutrino masses can be induced radiatively. The flavor violating decays of the charged leptons constrain the flavor parameters of the models. We study how the muonium-to-antimuonium transition rate can be as large as the current experimental bound, and we insist that the updated bound of the transition rate will be useful to distinguish the models to generate the neutrinoless double beta decay via the doubly charged scalar. We also study a possible extension of the model to the left-right model which can induce the neutrinoless double beta decay.

Revisiting the Origin of the Universe and the Arrow of Time

We reconsider the old but yet unsolved problems, origin of the universe and the arrow of time. We show that only the closed universe is free from the singularity with the arrow of time symmetric with respect to the maximal size of the cosmic scale. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is explicitly solved to obtain the local dynamical times. Corresponding to these local dynamical times, the thermodynamic arrow of time is proved to coincide with the arrows of dynamical time and of expanding universe (cosmological time). The proof is explicitly shown in two-dimensional spacetime.

Transverse positron polarization in the polarized $μ^+$ decay related with the muonium-to-antimuonium transition

The constructions of the new high-intensity muon beamlines are progressing in facilities around the world, and new physics searches related to the muons are expected. The facilities can observe the transverse positron polarization of the polarized $μ^+$ decay to test the standard model. The transition of muonium into antimuonium (Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition), which is one of the interesting possibilities in the models beyond the standard model, can be also tested. The near-future observation of the transition gives us a great impact since it indicates that there is an approximate discrete symmetry in the lepton sector. If the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition operator is generated, a new muon decay operator can exist and it may interfere with the standard model muon decay operator to induce the corrections to the transverse positron polarization in the $μ^+$ decay. In this paper, we examine the possibility that the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition and the correction to the transverse positron polarization are related, and we show that those two are related in the model of a neutral flavor gauge boson. We also investigate the models to generate the Mu-to-$\bar{\text{Mu}}$ transition, such as an inert $SU(2)_L$ doublet, a $SU(2)_L$ triplet for the type-II seesaw model, a dilepton gauge boson, and a left-right model. The non-zero value of the transverse polarization for one of the two directions, $P_{\rm T_2}$, violates the time-reversal invariance, and the experimental constraint of the electron electric dipole moment can provide a severe constraint on $P_{\rm T_2}$ depending on the model.

Models of the Muonium to Antimuonium Transition

Muonium is a bound state composed of an antimuon and an electron, and it constitutes a hydrogen-like atom. Because of the absence of the hadronic matter in the bound state, the muonium is a useful probe to explore new physics being free from the hadronic uncertainties. The process of the muonium-to-antimuonium transition is considered to be effective to identify fundamental interactions which relate to the lepton flavor and lepton number violation. New experiments are being planned at J-PARC in Japan and CSNS in China, and it is expected to attract more attention in the near future. In this paper, we will study what kind of model can be verified in the next generation of the muonium-to-antimuonium transition search experiments while escaping the limitations from other experiments. Though the transition probability is strongly suppressed by the lepton flavor conservation in the standard model, it can be much larger by the exchanges of neutral and doubly charged bosons, and by box loop diagrams in new physics beyond the standard model. We study the neutrino models with heavy Majorana neutrinos at TeV scale, a type-II seesaw model, left--right models, and models for radiative neutrino masses such as the Zee-Babu model in particular, in addition to other possible models to induce the sizable transition probability, which can be tested in the forthcoming experiments.

The Relativistic Corrections of GPS

We calculate the special and general relativistic effects of the Global Positioning System (GPS), especially the effects depending on the small deviation of the orbit from the circular one. This effect is well known but, to our knowledge, the detail of its derivation is not known publicly. GPS is widely used in particle physics experiments and this letter may be useful among this community.

$μ$-$τ$ symmetry breaking and CP violation in the neutrino mass matrix

The $μ$-$τ$ exchange symmetry in the neutrino mass matrix and its breaking as a perturbation are discussed. The exact $μ$-$τ$ symmetry restricts the 2-3 and 1-3 neutrino mixing angles as $θ_{23} = π/4$ and $θ_{13} = 0$ at a zeroth order level. We claim that the $μ$-$τ$ symmetry breaking prefers a large CP violation to realize the observed value of $θ_{13}$ and to keep $θ_{23}$ nearly maximal, though an artificial choice of the $μ$-$τ$ breaking can tune $θ_{23}$, irrespective of the CP phase. We exhibit several relations among the deviation of $θ_{23}$ from $π/4$, $θ_{13}$ and Dirac CP phase $δ$, which are useful to test the $μ$-$τ$ breaking models in the near future experiments. We also propose a concrete model to break the $μ$-$τ$ exchange symmetry spontaneously and its breaking is mediated by the gauge interactions radiatively in the framework of the extended gauge model with $B-L$ and $L_μ- L_τ$ symmetries. As a result of the gauge mediated $μ$-$τ$ breaking in the neutrino mass matrix, the artificial choice is unlikely, and a large Dirac CP phase is preferable.

Alternative Renormalizable Minimal SO(10) GUTs and Data Fitting

The alternative renormalizable minimal $SO(10)$ model is composed of the Yukawa couplings with $\textbf{10} \oplus \textbf{120}$ Higgs fields, whereas the right-handed (RH) neutrino Majorana masses are generated via the Witten mechanism. The gauge coupling unification is achieved together with a unique pattern of the fermion masses and mixing at the grand unification scale due to additional contributions of vector-like quarks to the standard model renormalization group equations. We perform the fitting of the model to the experimental data of charged fermion masses and the CKM matrix. The best fit point is obtained with large pulls for $m_c$, $m_s$, $m_b$, and $m_τ$. For the modifications to the minimal model by adding either $\textbf{10}'$ or $\textbf{120}'$, a large deviation for the tau mass rules out all these models. In the case with the bottom and vector-like quark mixing, the mass matrices are well fitted the charged fermions but the bound on the light neutrino mass scale excludes this scenario. To ameliorate this deficit, we consider the two-step symmetry breaking scenario, $SO(10) \rightarrow SU(5) \rightarrow SU(3)_C \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$, with the $SO(10)$ breaking at the Planck scale leading to the radiatively generated RH neutrino Majorana masses being at the ordinary seesaw scale. For this case, we find the best fit point with $χ^2 = 7.8$ consistent with experimental results including the neutrino sector. The largest deviation is 2.3$σ$ corresponding to the strange quark mass. Hence, a more precise determination of the strange quark mass can test this model. For the best fit point, we find the effective Majorana neutrino mass of $m_{ββ} = 0.22$ meV and the sum of light neutrino masses as $Σ= 0.078$ eV, which are consistent with the current constraints from the search for the neutrinoless double beta decay and the CMB anisotropy measurement.

Hunting for T-violation and Majoranality of Neutrinos in Muon Decays

We propose a new experiment to search for a time-reversal (T) symmetry breaking process in muon decay and the Majoranality of the neutrinos. In the presence of V+A interactions, the Majoranality appears as a T-violating term in the muon decay width as shown by Doi et al, while in the Standard Model such a T-violating term is negligibly small. The presences of V+A interactions and the corresponding heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos give us an important clue to solve two major issues in particle physics, the deficit of baryon asymmetry in the universe and the Majoranality of neutrinos. In the experiment, the polarization of positrons from muon decays is measured using a polarimeter consisting of a magnetized foil and a segmented calorimeter. According to our result of numerical calculation, a factor of ten improvement in sensitivity to the T-violating process is expected by a year of measurement at J-PARC Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility, compared to the most recent precursor experiment.

Peccei-Quinn Symmetry and Nucleon Decay in Renormalizable SUSY SO(10)

We suggest simple ways of implementing Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry to solve the strong CP problem in renormalizable SUSY $SO(10)$ models with a minimal Yukawa sector. Realistic fermion mass generation requires that a second pair of Higgs doublets survive down to the PQ scale. We show how unification of gauge couplings can be achieved in this context. Higgsino mediated proton decay rate is strongly suppressed by a factor of $(M_{\rm PQ}/M_{\rm GUT})^2$, which enables all SUSY particles to have masses of order TeV. With TeV scale SUSY spectrum, $p \rightarrow \overlineν K^+$ decay rate is expected to be in the observable range. Lepton flavor violating processes $μ\rightarrow eγ$ decay and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei, induced by the Dirac neutrino Yukawa couplings, are found to be within reach of forthcoming experiments.

Alternative renormalizable minimal SO(10) GUT and the Seesaw Scale

Alternative renormalizable minimal non-SUSY SO(10) GUT model is proposed. Instead of a ${\bf 126}$-dimensional Higgs field, a ${\bf 120}$-dimensional Higgs filed is ntroducedin addition to a ${\bf 10}$-dimensional Higgs field and plays a crucial role to reproduce the realistic charged fermion mass matrices. With contributions of ${\bf 120}$ Higgs field, the original Witten's scenario of inducing the right-handed Majorana neutrino mass through 2-loop diagrams becomes phenomenologically viable. This model inherits the nice features of the conventional renormalizable minimal SO(10) GUT model with ${\bf 10}+{\bf \overline{126}}$ Higgs fields, while supplemented with a low scale seesaw mechanism due to the 2-loop induced right-handed Majorana neutrino mass. %

Systematic Errors in General Spin Precession in Storage Ring

We analyse the systematic errors on the spin precession of particles in the storage ring, especially in the muon g-2/EDM project. There particles have both anomalous magnetic moments (g-2) and elctric dipole moments(EDM), and their positions and velocity directions have both $O(10^{-3}-10^{-4})\equiv O(ε)$ extensions. In order to measure these dipole moments up to $0.1$ppm or more we determine the precession frequency up to $O(ε^2)$. Our analytical formulation includes the Farley's pitch correction in the special case and can be applied to more general experimental setups.

Sparticle spectroscopy of the minimal SO(10) model

The supersymmetric (SUSY) minimal SO(10) model is a well-motivated grand unified theory, where the Standard Model (SM) fermions have Yukawa couplings with only one ${\bf 10}$-plet and one $\overline{\bf 126}$-plet Higgs fields and it is highly non-trivial if the realistic quark and lepton mass matrices can be reproduced in this context. It has been known that the best fit for all the SM fermion mass matrices is achieved by a vacuum expectation value of the $\overline{\bf 126}$-plet Higgs field being at the intermediate scale of around ${\cal O}(10^{13})$ GeV. Under the presence of the SO(10) symmetry breaking at the intermediate scale, the successful SM gauge coupling unification is at risk and likely to be spoiled. Recently, it has been shown that the low-energy fermion mass matrices, except for the down-quark mass predicted to be too low, are very well-fitted without the intermediate scale. In order to resolve the too-low down quark mass while keeping the other fittings intact, we consider SUSY threshold corrections to reproduce the right down quark mass. It turns out that this requires flavor-dependent soft parameters. Motivated by this fact, we calculate particle mass spectra at low energies with flavor-dependent sfermion masses at the grand unification scale. We present a benchmark particle mass spectrum which satisfies a variety of phenomenological constraints, in particular, the observed SM-like Higgs boson mass of around 125 GeV and the relic abundance of the neutralino dark matter as well as the experimental result of the muon anomalous magnetic moment. In the resultant mass spectrum, sleptons in the first and second generations, bino and winos are all light, and this scenario can be tested at the LHC Run-2 in the near future.

Twenty years after the discovery of $μ-τ$ symmetry

It has passed 20 years after we proposed $μ-τ$ symmetry in light neutrino mass matrix. This model is simple but reproduced the characterestic properties of lepton sector. After that, during the experimental developments, there have appeared so many extensions but most of those phenomenological models are lacking systematic outlooks towards more fundamental theories. In this paper, we try to consider rather systematic model extensions and application to GUT model.

Relation between proton decay and PMNS phase in the minimal SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

Proton decay is one of the most important predictions of the grand unified theory (GUT). In the supersymmetric (SUSY) GUT, proton decays via the dimension-five operators need to be suppressed. In the $SO(10)$ model where ${\bf 10}+\overline{\bf 126}$ Higgs fields couple to fermions, neutrino oscillation parameters including the CP-violating Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) phase can be related to the Yukawa couplings to generate the dimension-five operators in the unified framework. We show how the suppressed proton decay depends on the PMNS phase, and stress the importance of the precise measurements of the PMNS phase as well as the neutrino 23-mixing angle. These become especially important if the SUSY particles are found around less than a few TeV at LHC and proton decays are observed at Hyper-Kamiokande and DUNE experiments in the near future.

Revisiting fermion mass and mixing fits in the minimal SUSY $SO(10)$ GUT

Supersymmetric $SO(10)$ grand unified models with renormalizable Yukawa couplings involving only ${\bf 10}$ and $\overline{\bf 126}$ Higgs fields have been shown to realize the fermion masses and mixings economically. In previous works, the sum rule of the fermion mass matrices are given by inputting the quark matrices, and the neutrino mixings are predicted in this framework. Now the three neutrino mixings have been measured, and in this paper, we give the sum rule by inputting the lepton mass matrices, which makes clear certain features of the solution, especially if the vacuum expectation values of ${\bf 126}+ \overline{\bf126}$ ($v_R$) are large and the right-handed neutrinos are heavy. We perform the $χ^2$ analyses to fit the fermion masses and mixings using the sum rule. In previous works, the best fit appears at $v_R \sim 10^{13}$ GeV, and the fit at the large $v_R$ scale ($\sim 10^{16}$ GeV) has been less investigated. Our expression of the sum rule has a benefit to understand the flavor structure in the large $v_R$ solution. Using the fit results, we perform the calculation of the $μ\to eγ$ process and the electric dipole moment of electron, and the importance of $v_R$ dependence emerges in low energy phenomena. We also show the prediction of the CP phase in the neutrino oscillations, which can be tested in the near future.
