Tensor Perturbations from Bounce Inflation Scenario in f(Q) Gravity

In this paper, we construct a bounce inflation cosmological scenario in the framework of the modified symmetric teleparallel gravity, namely f(Q) theory, and investigate the tensor perturbations therein. As is well-known, the tensor perturbations generated in the very early Universe (inflation and pre-inflation regions) can account for the primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) that are to be detected by the next generation of GW experiments. We discuss the stability condition of the tensor perturbations in the bounce inflation process and investigate in detail the evolution of the perturbation variable. The general form of the tensor power spectrum is obtained both for large as well as small scale modes. As a result, we show for both kinds of modes (short or long wavelength modes), and the tensor spectrum may get a positive tilt in the parametric range where the tensor perturbation proves to be stable -- this interestingly hints an enhancement of gravitational waves' amplitude in the background of the f(Q) bounce-inflation scenario. Moreover, we study the LQC-like scenario as a specific case of our model, in which, the primordial tensor power spectrum turns out to be nearly scale-invariant on both small and large scales.

Cosmology of unimodular Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity

We propose a novel modified gravity: unimodular generalization of the Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity within the framework of cosmology. After formulating the action corresponding to the generalized Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity, we present a reconstruction scheme of this unimodular extension to achieve various cosmological eras of the universe. Interestingly, the unimodular generalization of Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ gravity proves to be suitable for inflation (de-Sitter and quasi de-Sitter) along with power law cosmology which actually includes from reheating to the Standard Big-Bang cosmology. Apart from the inflation, such generalized Born-Infeld-$f(R)$ theory is also capable to trigger non-singular bouncing cosmology for suitable forms of the unimodular Lagrange multiplier, which are exotic for the standard Einstein-Hilbert gravity and cannot be realized in that case. The possible consequences are discussed.

Horizon entropy consistent with FLRW equations for general modified theories of gravity and for all EoS of the matter field

The question that continues to hinge the interrelation between cosmology and thermodynamics is broadly described as -- what is the form of horizon entropy that links the Friedmann equations for a "$general$" gravity theory with the underlying thermodynamics of the apparent horizon? The answer to this question was known only for Einstein's gravity and for $(n+1)$ dimensional Gauss-Bonnet gravity theory, but not for a general modified theory of gravity (for instance, the $F(R)$ gravity). In the present work, we take this issue and determine a general form of entropy that connects the Friedmann equations for any gravity theory with the apparent horizon thermodynamics given by $TdS = -dE + WdV$ (the symbols have their usual meaning in the context of entropic cosmology and $W = \left(ρ- p\right)/2$ is the work density of the matter fields represented by $ρ$ and $p$ as the energy density and the pressure, respectively). Using such generalized entropy, we find the respective entropies for several modified theories of gravity (including the $F(R)$ gravity). Further, it turns out that besides the above-mentioned question, the thermodynamic law $TdS = -dE + WdV$ itself has some serious difficulties for certain values of $ω$ (the EoS of matter field). Thus we propose a modified thermodynamic law of apparent horizon, given by $TdS = -dE + ρdV$, that is interestingly free from such difficulties. The modified law proves to be valid for all EoS of the matter field and thus is considered to be more general compared to the previous one which, however, is a limiting case of the modified law for $p = -ρ$. Based on such modified thermodynamics, we further determine a generalized entropy that can provide the Friedmann equations of any general gravity theory for all values of EoS of the matter field. The further implications are discussed.

Entropic Inflation in Presence of Scalar Field

In spirit of the recently proposed four-parameter generalized entropy of apparent horizon, we investigate inflationary cosmology where the matter field inside of the horizon is dominated by a scalar field with a power law potential (i.e., the form of $ϕ^n$ where $ϕ$ is the scalar field under consideration). Actually without any matter inside of the horizon, the entropic cosmology leads to a de-Sitter spacetime, or equivalently, an eternal inflation with no exit. Thus in order to achieve a viable inflation, we consider a minimally coupled scalar field inside the horizon, and moreover, with the simplest quadratic potential. It is well known that the $ϕ^2$ potential in standard scalar field cosmology is ruled out from inflationary perspective as it is not consistent with the recent Planck 2018 data; (here it may be mentioned that in the realm of ``apparent horizon thermodynamics'', the standard scalar field cosmology is analogous to the case where the entropy of the apparent horizon is given by the Bekenstein--Hawking entropy). However, the story becomes different if the horizon entropy is of generalized entropic form, in which case, the effective energy density coming from the horizon entropy plays a significant role during the evolution of the universe. In particular, it turns out that in the context of generalized entropic cosmology, the $ϕ^2$ potential indeed leads to a viable inflation (according to the Planck data) with a graceful exit, and thus the potential can be made back in the scene.

Microscopic interpretation of generalized entropy

Generalized entropy, that has been recently proposed, puts all the known and apparently different entropies like The Tsallis, the Rényi, the Barrow, the Kaniadakis, the Sharma-Mittal and the loop quantum gravity entropy within a single umbrella. However, the microscopic origin of such generalized entropy as well as its relation to thermodynamic system(s) is not clear. In the present work, we will provide a microscopic thermodynamic explanation of generalized entropy(ies) from canonical and grand-canonical ensembles. It turns out that in both the canonical and grand-canonical descriptions, the generalized entropies can be interpreted as the statistical ensemble average of a series of microscopic quantity(ies) given by various powers of $\left(-k\lnρ\right)^n$ (with $n$ being a positive integer and $ρ$ symbolizes the phase space density of the respective ensemble), along with a term representing the fluctuation of Hamiltonian and number of particles of the system under consideration (in case of canonical ensemble, the fluctuation on the particle number vanishes).

On property-$\bm{(R_1)}$ and relative Chebyshev centers in Banach spaces-II

We continue to study (strong) property-$(R_1)$ in Banach spaces. As discussed by Pai \& Nowroji in [{\it On restricted centers of sets}, J. Approx. Theory, {\bf 66}(2), 170--189 (1991)], this study corresponds to a triplet $(X,V,\mathcal{F})$, where $X$ is a Banach space, $V$ is a closed convex set, and $\mathcal{F}$ is a subfamily of closed, bounded subsets of $X$. It is observed that if $X$ is a Lindenstrauss space then $(X,B_X,\mathcal{K}(X))$ has strong property-$(R_1)$, where $\mathcal{K}(X)$ represents the compact subsets of $X$. It is established that for any $F\in\mathcal{K}(X)$, $\textrm{Cent}_{B_X}(F)\neq\emptyset$. This extends the well-known fact that a compact subset of a Lindenstrauss space $X$ admits a nonempty Chebyshev center in $X$. We extend our observation that $\textrm{Cent}_{B_X}$ is Lipschitz continuous in $\mathcal{K}(X)$ if $X$ is a Lindenstrauss space. If $Y$ is a subspace of a Banach space $X$ and $\mathcal{F}$ represents the set of all finite subsets of $B_X$ then we observe that $B_Y$ exhibits the condition for simultaneously strongly proximinal (viz. property-$(P_1)$) in $X$ for $F\in\mathcal{F}$ if $(X, Y, \mathcal{F}(X))$ satisfies strong property-$(R_1)$, where $\mathcal{F}(X)$ represents the set of all finite subsets of $X$. It is demonstrated that if $P$ is a bi-contractive projection in $\ell_\infty$, then $(\ell_\infty, Range (P), \mathcal{K}(\ell_\infty))$ exhibits the strong property-$(R_1)$, where $\mathcal{K}(\ell_\infty)$ represents the set of all compact subsets of $\ell_\infty$. Furthermore, stability results for these properties are derived in continuous function spaces, which are then studied for various sums in Banach spaces.

Holographic realization from inflation to reheating in generalized entropic cosmology

The growing cosmological interest of different entropy functions (like the Tsallis entropy, the Rényi entropy, the Barrow entropy, the Sharma-Mittal entropy, the Kaniadakis entropy and the Loop Quantum gravity entropy) naturally raises an important question: "Does there exist a generalized entropy that can bring all the known entropies proposed so far within a single umbrella?" In spirit of this, recently a four parameter generalized entropy has been formulated that reduces to different known entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. Based on such four parameter generalized entropy (symbolized by $S_\mathrm{g}$), in the present paper, we examine the universe's evolution during its early phase, particularly from inflation to reheating, in the context of entropic cosmology where the entropic energy density acts as the inflaton. It turns out that the entropic energy successfully drives an early inflationary phase with a graceful exit, and moreover, the theoretical expectations of the observable indices get consistent with the recent Planck data for suitable ranges of the entropic parameters. After the inflation ends, the universe enters to a reheating stage when the entropic energy decays to relativistic particles with a certain decay rate. Actually the presence of the entropic parameters in the $S_\mathrm{g}$ ensures a continuous evolution of the Hubble parameter from a quasi de-Sitter phase during the inflation to a power law phase during the reheating stage dominated by a constant EoS parameter. Consequently we investigate the reheating phenomenology, and scan the entropic parameters from both the inflation and reheating requirements. We further address the possibility of instantaneous reheating in the present context of generalized entropy.

From inflation to reheating and their dynamical stability analysis in Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We investigate the inflation and reheating phenomenology in scalar-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity where a scalar field non-minimally couples with the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) curvature term. Regarding the inflationary phenomenology, we find -- (1) the inflation starts with a quasi de-Sitter phase and has an exit at a finite e-fold, (2) the scalar and tensor perturbations prove to be ghost free and do not suffer from gradient instability, (3) the curvature perturbation amplitude as well as its tilt and the tensor-to-scalar ratio turn out to be simultaneously compatible with the recent Planck data for suitable values of the parameters. After the inflation ends, the scalar field starts to decay to radiation with a constant decay width. For our considered scalar potential and the GB coupling function, the model results to an analytic power law solution of the Hubble parameter and a logarithmic solution of the scalar field during the reheating era, where the exponent of the Hubble parameter determines the effective EoS parameter ($w_\mathrm{eff}$) during the same. The stability of such reheating dynamics is examined by dynamical analysis which ensures that $w_\mathrm{eff}$ can go beyond unity and reach up-to the maximum value of $\mathrm{max}(w_\mathrm{eff}) = 1.56$. The scenario with $w_\mathrm{eff} > 1$ proves to be purely due to the presence of the GB coupling function, which in turn may have important consequences on enhancing the primordial gravitational waves' amplitude observed today. The inflationary e-fold number gets further constrained by the input of the reheating stage. We finally construct the complete forms of scalar potential ($V(ϕ)$) and the GB coupling ($ξ(ϕ)$) function that smoothly transits from inflation to reheating, and numerically solve the Hubble parameter and the scalar field for such complete forms of $V(ϕ)$ and $ξ(ϕ)$.

Ekpyrotic bounce driven by Kalb-Ramond field

We propose an ekpyrotic bounce scenario driven by a second rank antisymmetric Kalb-Ramond field, where the universe initially contracts through an ekpyrotic stage having a non-singular bouncing like behaviour, and consequently, it smoothly transits to an expanding phase. In particular, the KR field has an interaction with a scalaron field (coming from higher curvature d.o.f) by a linear coupling. The interaction energy density between the KR and the scalaron grows faster than $a^{-6}$ during the contraction phase -- which has negligible effects at the distant past, however as the universe continues to contract, this interaction energy density gradually grows and plays a significant role to trigger a non-singular bounce at a minimum value of the scale factor. The bounce being symmetric and ekpyrotic, the energy density of the bouncing agent rapidly decreases after the bounce during the expanding phase of the universe, and consequently the standard Big-Bang cosmology gets recovered. In such ekpyrotic bounce scenario, we find that the curvature perturbation gets a blue tilted spectrum over the large scale modes -- not consistent with the Planck data. To circumvent this problem, we propose an extended scenario where the ekpyrotic phase is preceded by a quasi-matter dominated pre-ekpyrotic phase, and re-investigate the perturbation power spectrum. As a result, the primordial curvature perturbation, at scales that cross the horizon during the pre-ekpyrotic stage, turns out to be nearly scale invariant that is indeed consistent with the recent Planck data. The hallmark of the work is that although the Kalb-Ramond field has negligible footprints at present universe, it has considerable impacts during early stage of the universe, which in turn makes the universe's evolution non-singular.

Holographic realization of constant roll inflation and dark energy: An unified scenario

Based on generalized holographic formalism, we establish a holographic realization of constant roll inflation during the early universe, where the corresponding cut-off depends on the Hubble parameter and its derivatives (up to the second order). The viability of this holographic constant roll inflation with respect to the Planck data in turn puts a certain bound on the infrared cut-off at the time of horizon crossing. Such holographic correspondence of constant roll inflation is extended to the scenario where the infrared cut-off is corrected by the ultraviolet one, which may originate due to quantum effects. Besides the mere inflation, we further propose the holographic realization of an $unified$ cosmic scenario from constant roll inflation (at the early time) to the dark energy era (at the late time) with an intermediate radiation dominated era followed by a Kamionkowski like reheating stage. In such a unified holographic scenario, the inflationary quantities (like the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio) and the dark energy quantities (like the dark energy EoS parameter and the present Hubble rate) prove to be simultaneously compatible with observable constraints for suitable ranges of the infrared cut-off and the other model parameters. Moreover the curvature perturbations at super-Hubble scale prove to be a constant (with time) during the entire cosmic era, which in turn ensures the stability of the model under consideration.

Generalised (non-singular) entropy functions with applications to cosmology and black holes

The growing interest of different entropy functions proposed so far (like the Bekenstein-Hawking, Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies) towards black hole thermodynamics as well as towards cosmology lead to the natural question that whether there exists a generalized entropy function that can generalize all these known entropies. With this spirit, we propose a new 4-parameter entropy function that seems to converge to the aforementioned known entropies for certain limits of the entropic parameters. The proposal of generalized entropy is extended to non-singular case, in which case, the entropy proves to be singular-free during the entire cosmological evolution of the universe. The hallmark of such generalized entropies is that it helps us to fundamentally understand one of the important physical quantities namely ``entropy''. Consequently we address the implications of the generalized entropies on black hole thermodynamics as well as on cosmology, and discuss various constraints of the entropic parameters from different perspectives.

A non-singular generalized entropy and its implications on bounce cosmology

We propose a new five-parameter entropy function that proves to be singular-free during the entire cosmic evolution of the universe, and at the same time, also generalizes the Tsallis, Barrow, Rényi, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. In particular, all the above mentioned known entropies become singular (or diverge) when the Hubble parameter vanishes in course of the universe's evolution (for instance, in bounce cosmology at the instant of bounce), while the newly proposed entropy function seems to be singular-free even at $H = 0$ (where $H$ represents the Hubble parameter of the universe). Such non-singular behaviour of the entropy function becomes useful in describing bouncing scenario, in which case, the universe undergoes through $H = 0$ at the instant of bounce. It turns out that the entropic cosmology corresponding to the singular-free generalized entropy naturally allows symmetric bounce scenarios, such as -- exponential bounce and quasi-matter bounce scenario respectively. In the case of exponential bounce, the perturbation modes are in the super-Hubble domain at the distant past, while for the quasi-matter bounce, the perturbation modes generate in the deep sub-Hubble regime far before the bounce and hence resolves the ``horizon issue''. Based on this fact, we perform a detailed perturbation analysis for the quasi-matter bounce in the present context of singular-free entropic cosmology. Furthermore the entropic cosmology in the present context is shown to be equivalent with the generalized holographic cosmology where the holographic cut-offs are determined in terms of either future horizon and its derivative or the particle horizon and its derivative.

Modified cosmology from the thermodynamics of apparent horizon

In the realm of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, the thermodynamics of apparent horizon bridges with the usual FLRW (Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker) equation only for a special case where the matter field is given by a perfect fluid having equation of state (EoS) parameter $= -1$, i.e $p = -ρ$ with $ρ$ and $p$ represent the energy density and the pressure of the fluid, respectively. To include the case $p \neq -ρ$, we consider the modification of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in the present work. In particular, we develop an entropy function that leads to the usual FLRW equations, for a $general$ EoS of the matter fluid given by $p = wρ$, directly from the thermodynamics of the apparent horizon. The newly developed entropy acquires a correction over the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and differs from the known entropies like the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis, and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies proposed so far. Based on this finding, we examine how the Friedmann equations of the apparent horizon cosmology are accordingly modified if one starts with a general entropy depending on the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. This results in some interesting cosmological consequences during the early and late stages of the universe.

Aspects of non-singular bounce in modified gravity theories

Scenario of a bouncing universe is one of the most active area of research to arrive at singularity free cosmological models. Different proposals have been suggested to avoid the so called 'big bang' singularity through the quantum aspect of gravity which is yet to have a proper understanding. In this work, on the contrary, we consider three different approaches, each of which goes beyond General Relativity but remain within the domain of classical cosmological scenario, to address this problem. The hallmark of all these approaches is that the origin of the bouncing mechanism is somewhat natural within the geometrical framework of the model without any need of incorporating external source by hand. In the context of these scenarios ,we also discuss various constraints that these viable cosmological models need to satisfy.

Bounce universe with finite-time singularity

This work explains how the presence of a Type-IV singularity (a mild singularity) can influence the dynamics of a bouncing universe. In particular, we examine bounce cosmology that appears with a Type-IV singularity in the context of a ghost free Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity. Depending on the time of occurrence of the Type-IV singularity, three different cases may arise -- when the singularity occurs before the bounce or after the bounce or at the instant of the bounce respectively. However in all of these cases, we find that in the case when the singularity "globally" affects the spacetime, the scalar power spectrum becomes red tilted and the tensor-to-scalar ratio is too large to be consistent with the observational data. Based on these findings, we investigate a different bouncing scenario which also appears with a Type-IV singularity, and the singularity affects the spacetime "locally" around the time when it occurs. As a result, and unlike to the previous scenario, the perturbation modes in the second bouncing scenario are likely to generate far away from the bounce in the deep contracting phase. This finally results to the simultaneous compatibility of the observable quantities with the Planck data, and ensures the viability of the bounce model where the Type-IV singularity has local effects on the spacetime around the time of the singularity.

Viable requirements of curvature coupling helical magnetogenesis scenario

In the present work, we examine the following points in the context of the recently proposed curvature coupling helical magnetogenesis scenario \cite{Bamba:2021wyx} -- (1) whether the model is consistent with the predictions of perturbative quantum field theory (QFT), and (2) whether the curvature perturbation induced by the generated electromagnetic (EM) field during inflation is consistent with the Planck data. Such requirements are well motivated in order to argue the viability of the magnetogenesis model under consideration. Actually, the magnetogenesis scenario proposed in \cite{Bamba:2021wyx} seems to predict sufficient magnetic strength over the large scales and also leads to the correct baryon asymmetry of the universe for a suitable range of the model parameter. However in the realm of inflationary magnetogenesis, these requirements are not enough to argue the viability of the model, particularly one needs to examine some more important requirements in this regard. We may recall that the calculations generally used to determine the magnetic field's power spectrum are based on the perturbative QFT -- therefore it is important to examine whether the predictions of such perturbative QFT are consistent with the observational bounds of the model parameter. On other hand, the generated gauge field acts as a source of the curvature perturbation which needs to be suppressed compared to that of contributed from the inflaton field in order to be consistent with the Planck observation. These set our motivation. Interestingly, both the aforementioned requirements in the context of the curvature coupling helical magnetogenesis scenario are found to be simultaneously satisfied by that range of the model parameter which leads to the correct magnetic strength over the large scale modes.

Early and late universe holographic cosmology from a new generalized entropy

We propose a new four-parameter entropy function that generalizes the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. Consequently, we address the early and late universe cosmology corresponding to the proposed four-parameter entropy function. As a result, it turns out that the entropic cosmology from the generalized entropy function can unify the early inflation to the late dark energy era of the universe. In such a unified scenario, we find that -- (1) the inflation era is described by a quasi de-Sitter evolution of the Hubble parameter, which has an exit at around 58 e-folding number, (2) the inflationary observable quantities like the spectral index for primordial scalar perturbation and the tensor-to-scalar ratio are simultaneously compatible with the recent Planck data, and (3) regarding the late time cosmology, the dark energy EoS parameter is found to be consistent with the Planck result for the same values of the entropy parameters that lead to the viable inflation during the early universe. Furthermore, we show that the entropic cosmology from the proposed entropy function is equivalent to holographic cosmology, where the respective holographic cut-offs are determined in terms of either particle horizon and its derivative or future horizon and its derivative.

Helical magnetogenesis with reheating phase from higher curvature coupling and baryogenesis

We investigate the generation of helical magnetic fields and address the baryon asymmetry of the universe from an inflationary magnetogenesis scenario, in which the conformal and parity symmetries of the electromagnetic field are broken through its coupling to the Ricci scalar and to the Gauss-Bonnet invariant via the dual field tensor, so that the generated magnetic field can have a helical nature. Depending on the reheating mechanism, we consider two different cases - (1) instantaneous reheating scenario, in which case the reheating e-fold number is zero, and (2) Kamionkowski reheating scenario which is parametrized by a non-zero e-fold number, a reheating equation of state parameter and a given reheating temperature. It is demonstrated that for both the reheating mechanisms, the generated magnetic fields can be compatible with the observations for suitable range of the model parameter present in the non-minimal coupling of the electromagnetic field. Actually the present magnetogenesis model does not produce sufficient hierarchy between the electric and magnetic fields at the end of inflation, and thus the electric field is not able to sufficiently induce (or enhance) the magnetic field during the Kamionkowski reheating stage. This in turn makes both the reheating cases almost similar from the perspective of magnetic field's evolution. Furthermore we find that the magnetic fields at the galactic scale with strength $\sim 10^{-13}\mathrm{G}$ can lead to the resultant value of the ratio of the baryonic number density to the entropy density as large as $\sim 10^{-10}$, which is consistent with the observational data.
