A new measure of thermal micro-behavior for the AdS black hole

Inspired by the hypothesis of the black hole molecule, with the help of the Hawking temperature, entropy and the thermodynamics curvature of the black hole, we propose a new measure of the relation between the interaction and the thermal motion of molecules of the AdS black hole as a preliminary and coarse-grained description. The measure enables us to introduce a dimensionless ratio to characterize this relation and show that there is indeed competition between the interaction among black hole molecules and their thermal motion. For the charged AdS black hole, below the critical dimensionless pressure, there are three transitions between the interaction state and the thermal motion state. While above the critical dimensionless pressure, there is only one transition. For the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole and five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole, there is always a transition between the interaction state and the thermal motion state.

Sparsity-Aware SSAF Algorithm with Individual Weighting Factors for Acoustic Echo Cancellation

In this paper, we propose and analyze the sparsity-aware sign subband adaptive filtering with individual weighting factors (S-IWF-SSAF) algorithm, and consider its application in acoustic echo cancellation (AEC). Furthermore, we design a joint optimization scheme of the step-size and the sparsity penalty parameter to enhance the S-IWF-SSAF performance in terms of convergence rate and steady-state error. A theoretical analysis shows that the S-IWF-SSAF algorithm outperforms the previous sign subband adaptive filtering with individual weighting factors (IWF-SSAF) algorithm in sparse scenarios. In particular, compared with the existing analysis on the IWF-SSAF algorithm, the proposed analysis does not require the assumptions of large number of subbands, long adaptive filter, and paraunitary analysis filter bank, and matches well the simulated results. Simulations in both system identification and AEC situations have demonstrated our theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Stem-leaf segmentation and phenotypic trait extraction of maize shoots from three-dimensional point cloud

Nowadays, there are many approaches to acquire three-dimensional (3D) point clouds of maize plants. However, automatic stem-leaf segmentation of maize shoots from three-dimensional (3D) point clouds remains challenging, especially for new emerging leaves that are very close and wrapped together during the seedling stage. To address this issue, we propose an automatic segmentation method consisting of three main steps: skeleton extraction, coarse segmentation based on the skeleton, fine segmentation based on stem-leaf classification. The segmentation method was tested on 30 maize seedlings and compared with manually obtained ground truth. The mean precision, mean recall, mean micro F1 score and mean over accuracy of our segmentation algorithm were 0.964, 0.966, 0.963 and 0.969. Using the segmentation results, two applications were also developed in this paper, including phenotypic trait extraction and skeleton optimization. Six phenotypic parameters can be accurately and automatically measured, including plant height, crown diameter, stem height and diameter, leaf width and length. Furthermore, the values of R2 for the six phenotypic traits were all above 0.94. The results indicated that the proposed algorithm could automatically and precisely segment not only the fully expanded leaves, but also the new leaves wrapped together and close together. The proposed approach may play an important role in further maize research and applications, such as genotype-to-phenotype study, geometric reconstruction and dynamic growth animation. Multiplicity, asymptotics and stability of standing waves for nonlinear Schrödinger equation with rotation

In this article, we study the multiplicity, asymptotics and stability of standing waves with prescribed mass $c>0$ for nonlinear Schrödinger equation with rotation in the mass-supercritical regime arising in Bose-Einstein condensation. Under suitable restriction on the rotation frequency, by searching critical points of the corresponding energy functional on the mass-sphere, we obtain a local minimizer $u_c$ and a mountain pass solution $\hat{u}_c$. %under suitable assumptions on the related parameters. Furthermore, we show that $u_c$ is a ground state for small mass $c>0$ and describe a mass collapse behavior of the minimizers as $c\to 0$, while $\hat{u}_c$ is an excited state. Finally, we prove that the standing wave associated with $u_c$ is stable. Notice that the pioneering works \cite{aMsC,shYZ} imply that finite time blow-up of solutions to this model occurred in the mass-supercritical setting, therefore, we in the present paper obtain a new stability result. The main contribution of this paper is to extend the main results in \cite{JeSp,gYlW} concerning the same model from mass-subcritical and mass-critical regimes to mass-supercritical regime, where the physically most relevant case is covered.

Multiplier Hopf coquasigroups with faithful integrals

Let $A$ be a multiplier Hopf coquasigroup. If the faithful integrals exist, then they are unique up to scalar. Furthermore, if $A$ is of discrete type, then its integral duality $\widehat{A}$ is a Hopf quasigroup, and the biduality $\widehat{\widehat{A}}$ is isomorphic to the original $A$ as multiplier Hopf coquasigroups. This biduality theorem also holds for a class of Hopf quasigroups with faithful integrals.

Analysis of Multivariate Scoring Functions for Automatic Unbiased Learning to Rank

Leveraging biased click data for optimizing learning to rank systems has been a popular approach in information retrieval. Because click data is often noisy and biased, a variety of methods have been proposed to construct unbiased learning to rank (ULTR) algorithms for the learning of unbiased ranking models. Among them, automatic unbiased learning to rank (AutoULTR) algorithms that jointly learn user bias models (i.e., propensity models) with unbiased rankers have received a lot of attention due to their superior performance and low deployment cost in practice. Despite their differences in theories and algorithm design, existing studies on ULTR usually use uni-variate ranking functions to score each document or result independently. On the other hand, recent advances in context-aware learning-to-rank models have shown that multivariate scoring functions, which read multiple documents together and predict their ranking scores jointly, are more powerful than uni-variate ranking functions in ranking tasks with human-annotated relevance labels. Whether such superior performance would hold in ULTR with noisy data, however, is mostly unknown. In this paper, we investigate existing multivariate scoring functions and AutoULTR algorithms in theory and prove that permutation invariance is a crucial factor that determines whether a context-aware learning-to-rank model could be applied to existing AutoULTR framework. Our experiments with synthetic clicks on two large-scale benchmark datasets show that AutoULTR models with permutation-invariant multivariate scoring functions significantly outperform those with uni-variate scoring functions and permutation-variant multivariate scoring functions.

Integral Dual of some infinite dimensional Hopf quasigroups

For an infinite dimensional Hopf quasigroup, if the faithful integral exists, then it is unique up to scalar. Base on the faithful integrals, we construct the integral dual of a class of infinite dimensional Hopf quasigroups, and show that the integral dual has a similar structure to Hopf coquasigroup, which is a regular multiplier Hopf coquasigroup with a faithful integral.

HEU Emotion: A Large-scale Database for Multi-modal Emotion Recognition in the Wild

The study of affective computing in the wild setting is underpinned by databases. Existing multimodal emotion databases in the real-world conditions are few and small, with a limited number of subjects and expressed in a single language. To meet this requirement, we collected, annotated, and prepared to release a new natural state video database (called HEU Emotion). HEU Emotion contains a total of 19,004 video clips, which is divided into two parts according to the data source. The first part contains videos downloaded from Tumblr, Google, and Giphy, including 10 emotions and two modalities (facial expression and body posture). The second part includes corpus taken manually from movies, TV series, and variety shows, consisting of 10 emotions and three modalities (facial expression, body posture, and emotional speech). HEU Emotion is by far the most extensive multi-modal emotional database with 9,951 subjects. In order to provide a benchmark for emotion recognition, we used many conventional machine learning and deep learning methods to evaluate HEU Emotion. We proposed a Multi-modal Attention module to fuse multi-modal features adaptively. After multi-modal fusion, the recognition accuracies for the two parts increased by 2.19% and 4.01% respectively over those of single-modal facial expression recognition.

Traffic Agent Trajectory Prediction Using Social Convolution and Attention Mechanism

The trajectory prediction is significant for the decision-making of autonomous driving vehicles. In this paper, we propose a model to predict the trajectories of target agents around an autonomous vehicle. The main idea of our method is considering the history trajectories of the target agent and the influence of surrounding agents on the target agent. To this end, we encode the target agent history trajectories as an attention mask and construct a social map to encode the interactive relationship between the target agent and its surrounding agents. Given a trajectory sequence, the LSTM networks are firstly utilized to extract the features for all agents, based on which the attention mask and social map are formed. Then, the attention mask and social map are fused to get the fusion feature map, which is processed by the social convolution to obtain a fusion feature representation. Finally, this fusion feature is taken as the input of a variable-length LSTM to predict the trajectory of the target agent. We note that the variable-length LSTM enables our model to handle the case that the number of agents in the sensing scope is highly dynamic in traffic scenes. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we widely compare with several methods on a public dataset, achieving a 20% error decrease. In addition, the model satisfies the real-time requirement with the 32 fps.

The first simultaneous measurement of Hubble constant and post-Newtonian parameter from Time-Delay Strong Lensing

Strong gravitational lensing has been a powerful probe of cosmological models and gravity. To date, constraints in either domain have been obtained separately. We propose a new methodology through which the cosmological model, specifically the Hubble constant, and post-Newtonian parameter can be simultaneously constrained. Using the time-delay cosmography from strong lensing combined with the stellar kinematics of the deflector lens, we demonstrate the Hubble constant and post-Newtonian parameter are incorporated in two distance ratios which reflect the lensing mass and dynamical mass, respectively. Through the reanalysis of the four publicly released lenses distance posteriors from the H0LiCOW collaboration, the simultaneous constraints of Hubble constant and post-Newtonian parameter are obtained. Our results suggests no deviation from the General Relativity, $γ_{\texttt{PPN}}=0.87^{+0.19}_{-0.17}$ with a Hubble constant favors the local Universe value, $H_0=73.65^{+1.95}_{-2.26}$ km s$^{-1}$ Mpc$^{-1}$. Finally, we forecast the robustness of gravity tests by using the time-delay strong lensing for constraints we expect in the next few years. We find that the joint constraint from 40 lenses are able to reach the order of $7.7\%$ for the post-Newtonian parameter and $1.4\%$ for Hubble constant.

Turbulent cascade induced persistent current of cold atomic superfluids

Dissipating of disorder quantum vortices in an annular two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate can form a macroscopic persistent flow of atoms. We propose a protocol to create persistent flow with high winding number based on a double concentric ring-shaped configuration. We find that a sudden geometric quench of the trap from single ring-shape into double concentric ring-shape will enhance the circulation flow in the outer ring-shaped region of the trap when the initial state of the condensate is with randomly distributed vortices of the same charge. The circulation flows that we created are with high stability and good uniformity free from topological excitations. Our study is promising for new atomtronic designing, and is also helpful for quantitatively understanding quantum tunneling and interacting quantum systems driven far from equilibrium.

Topological transition from superuid vortex rings to isolated knots and links

Knots and links are fundamental topological objects play a key role in both classical and quantum fluids. In this research, we propose a novel scheme to generate torus vortex knots and links through the reconnections of vortex rings perturbed by Kelvin waves in trapped Bose-Einstein condensates. We observe a new phenomenon in a confined superfluid system in which the transfer of helicity between knots/links and coils can occur in both directions with different pathways. The pathways of topology transition can be controlled through designing specific initial states. The generation of a knot or link can be achieved by setting the parity of the Kelvin wave number. The stability of knots/links can be improved greatly with tunable parameters, including the ideal relative angle and the minimal distance between the initial vortex rings.

Coherence of an extended central spin model with a coupled spin bath

We study an extended central spin model with an isotropic nearest-neighbour spin-exchange interaction among the bath spins. The system is controllable by external magnetic fields applied on the central spin and the bath, respectively. We construct a basis set of the Hilbert space and express the Hamiltonian of the extended model into a series of $2\times2$ block matrices to obtain the exact solution of the model successfully. Therefrom, the coherence and the spin polarization of the central spin are investigated. We find that if the couplings among the bath spins are antiferromagnetic, the central spin has good coherence and polarization at low temperatures. Moreover, the decoherence is greatly suppressed at the critical point where the strengthes of the central and the bath magnetic field take the same value. A dephasing phenomenon is identified when the initial state of the central spin is unpolarized.

Radiation effects on NDL prototype LGAD sensors after proton irradiation

We study the radiation effects of the Low Gain Avalanche Detector (LGAD) sensors developed by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and the Novel Device Laboratory (NDL) of Beijing Normal University in China. These new sensors have been irradiated at the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) using 100 MeV proton beam with five different fluences from 7$\times10^{14}$ $n_{eq}/cm^2$ up to 4.5$\times10^{15}$ $n_{eq}/cm^2$. The result shows the effective doping concentration in the gain layer decreases with the increase of irradiation fluence, as expected by the acceptor removal mechanism. By comparing data and model gives the acceptor removal coefficient $c_{A}$ = $(6.07\pm0.70)\times10^{-16}~cm^2$, which indicates the NDL sensor has fairly good radiation resistance.

Commonsense Evidence Generation and Injection in Reading Comprehension

Human tackle reading comprehension not only based on the given context itself but often rely on the commonsense beyond. To empower the machine with commonsense reasoning, in this paper, we propose a Commonsense Evidence Generation and Injection framework in reading comprehension, named CEGI. The framework injects two kinds of auxiliary commonsense evidence into comprehensive reading to equip the machine with the ability of rational thinking. Specifically, we build two evidence generators: the first generator aims to generate textual evidence via a language model; the other generator aims to extract factual evidence (automatically aligned text-triples) from a commonsense knowledge graph after graph completion. Those evidences incorporate contextual commonsense and serve as the additional inputs to the model. Thereafter, we propose a deep contextual encoder to extract semantic relationships among the paragraph, question, option, and evidence. Finally, we employ a capsule network to extract different linguistic units (word and phrase) from the relations, and dynamically predict the optimal option based on the extracted units. Experiments on the CosmosQA dataset demonstrate that the proposed CEGI model outperforms the current state-of-the-art approaches and achieves the accuracy (83.6%) on the leaderboard.

On a doubly critical system involving fractional Laplacian with partial weight

In this paper, we establish a new improved Sobolev inequality based on a weighted Morrey space. To be precise, there exists $C=C(n,m,s,α)>0$ such that for any $u,v \in {\dot{H}}^s(\mathbb{R}^{n})$ and for any $θ\in (\barθ,1)$, it holds that \begin{equation} \label{eq0.3} \Big( \int_{ \mathbb{R}^{n} } \frac{ |(uv)(y)|^{\frac{2^*_{s}(α)}{2} } } { |y'|^α } dy \Big)^{ \frac{1}{ 2^*_{s} (α) }} \leq C ||u||_{\dot{H}^s(\mathbb{R}^{n})}^{\fracθ{2}} ||v||_{\dot{H}^s(\mathbb{R}^{n})}^{\fracθ{2}} ||(uv)||^{\frac{1-θ}{2}}_{ L^{1,n-2s+r}(\mathbb{R}^{n},|y'|^{-r}) }, \end{equation} where $s \!\in\! (0,1)$, $0\!<\!α\!<\!2s\!<\!n$, $2s\!<\!m\!<\!n$, $\barθ=\max \{ \frac{2}{2^*_{s}(α)}, 1-\fracα{s}\cdot\frac{1}{2^*_{s}(α)}, \frac{2^*_{s}(α)-\fracα{s}}{2^*_{s}(α)-\frac{2α}{m}} \}$, $r=\frac{2α}{ 2^*_{s}(α) }$ and $y\!=\!(y',y'') \in \mathbb{R}^{m} \times \mathbb{R}^{n-m}$. By using mountain pass lemma and (\ref{eq0.3}), we obtain a nontrivial weak solution to a doubly critical system involving fractional Laplacian in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with partial weight in a direct way. Furthermore, we extend inequality (\ref{eq0.3}) to more general forms on purpose of studying some general systems with partial weight, involving p-Laplacian especially.

New probe of gravity: strongly lensed gravitational wave multi-messenger approach

Strong gravitational lensing by galaxies provides us with a unique opportunity to understand the nature of gravity on galactic and extra-galactic scales. In this paper, we propose a new multimessenger approach using data from both gravitational wave (GW) and the corresponding electromagnetic (EM) counterpart to infer the constraint of the modified gravity (MG) theory denoted by the scale dependent phenomenological parameter. To demonstrate the robustness of this approach, we calculate the time-delay predictions by choosing various values of the phenomenological parameters and then compare them with that from the general relativity (GR). For the third generation ground-based GW observatory, with one typical strongly lensed GW+EM event, and assuming that the dominated error from the stellar velocity dispersions is 5\%, the GW time-delay data can distinguish an 18\% MG effect on a scale of tens of kiloparsecs with a $68\%$ confidence level. Assuming GR and a Singular Isothermal Sphere mass model, there exists a simplified consistency relationship between time-delay and imaging data. This relationship does not require for the velocity dispersion measurement, and hence can avoid major uncertainties. By using this relationship, the multimessenger approach is able to distinguish an $8\%$ MG effect. Our results show that the GW multimessenger approach can play an important role in revealing the nature of gravity on the galactic and extra-galactic scales.

Security of Medical Cyber-physical Systems: An Empirical Study on Imaging Devices

Recent years have witnessed a boom of connected medical devices, which brings security issues in the meantime. Medical imaging devices, an essential part of medical cyber-physical systems, play a vital role in modern hospitals and are often life-critical. However, security and privacy issues in these medical cyber-physical systems are sometimes ignored. In this paper, we perform an empirical study on imaging devices to analyse the security of medical cyber-physical systems. To be precise, we design a threat model and propose prospective attack techniques for medical imaging devices. To tackle potential cyber threats, we introduce protection mechanisms, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of protection mechanisms as well as its interplay with attack techniques. To scoring security, we design a hierarchical system that provides actionable suggestions for imaging devices in different scenarios. We investigate 15 devices from 9 manufacturers to demonstrate empirical comprehension and real-world security issues.
