Seiberg-Witten curves of $\widehat{D}$-type Little Strings

Little Strings are a type of non-gravitational quantum theories that contain extended degrees of freedom, but behave like ordinary Quantum Field Theories at low energies. A particular class of such theories in six dimensions is engineered as the world-volume theory of an M5-brane on a circle that probes a transverse orbifold geometry. Its low energy limit is a supersymmetric gauge theory that is described by a quiver in the shape of the Dynkin diagram of the affine extension of an ADE-group. While the so-called $\widehat{A}$-type Little String Theories (LSTs) are very well studied, much less is known about the $\widehat{D}$-type, where for example the Seiberg-Witten curve (SWC) is only known in the case of the $\widehat{D}_4$ theory. In this work, we provide a general construction of this curve for arbitrary $\widehat{D}_{M}$ that respects all symmetries and dualities of the LST and is compatible with lower-dimensional results in the literature. For $M=4$ our construction reproduces the same curve as previously obtained by other methods. The form in which we cast the SWC for generic $\widehat{D}_M$ allows to study the behaviour of the LST under modular transformations and provides insights into a dual formulation as a circular quiver gauge theory with nodes of $Sp(M-4)$ and $SO(2M)$.

Gauge origami and quiver W-algebras

We explore the quantum algebraic formalism of the gauge origami system in $\mathbb{C}^{4}$, where D2/D4/D6/D8-branes are present. We demonstrate that the contour integral formulas have free field interpretations, leading to the operator formalism of $qq$-characters associated with each D-brane. The $qq$-characters of D2 and D4-branes correspond to screening charges and generators of the affine quiver W-algebra, respectively. On the other hand, the $qq$-characters of D6 and D8-branes represent novel types of $qq$-characters, where monomial terms are characterized by plane partitions and solid partitions. The composition of these $qq$-characters yields the instanton partition functions of the gauge origami system, eventually establishing the BPS/CFT correspondence. Additionally, we demonstrate that the fusion of $qq$-characters of D-branes in lower dimensions results in higher-dimensional D-brane $qq$-characters. We also investigate quadratic relations among these $qq$-characters. Furthermore, we explore the relationship with the representations, $q$-characters, and the Bethe ansatz equations of the quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}_{1}$. This connection provides insights into the Bethe/Gauge correspondence of the gauge origami system from both gauge-theoretic and quantum-algebraic perspectives. We finally present conjectures regarding generalizations to general toric Calabi-Yau four-folds. These generalizations imply the existence of an extensive class of $qq$-characters, which we call BPS $qq$-characters. These BPS $qq$-characters offer a new systematic approach to derive a broader range of BPS/CFT correspondence and Bethe/Gauge correspondence.

Generalized Calogero-Moser system and supergroup gauge origami

We study the integrability and the Bethe/Gauge correspondence of the Generalized Calogero-Moser system proposed by Berntson, Langmann and Lenells which we call the elliptic quadruple Calogero-Moser system (eqCM). We write down the Dunkl operators which give commuting Hamiltonians of the quantum integrable system. We identify the gauge theory in correspondence is a supergroup version of the gauge origami, from which we construct the transfer matrix of the eqCM system.

Universal Cusp Scaling in Random Partitions

We study the universal scaling limit of random partitions obeying the Schur measure. Extending our previous analysis [arXiv:2012.06424], we obtain the higher-order Pearcey kernel describing the multi-critical behavior in the cusp scaling limit. We explore the gap probability associated with the higher Pearcey kernel, and derive the coupled nonlinear differential equation and the asymptotic behavior in the large gap limit.

Orthosymplectic Superinstanton Counting and Brane Dynamics

We extend the study of superinstantons presented in 1905.01513 to include orthosymplectic supergroup gauge theories, $B_{n_0|n_1}$, $C_n$, and $D_{n_0|n_1}$. We utilize equivariant localization to obtain the LMNS contour integral formula for the instanton partition function, and we investigate the Seiberg--Witten geometries associated with these theories. We also explore the brane configurations involving positive and negative branes together with O-planes that realize the orthosymplectic supergroup theories.

Non-perturbative Symmetries of Little Strings and Affine Quiver Algebras

We consider Little String Theories (LSTs) that are engineered by $N$ parallel M5-branes probing a transverse $\mathbb{Z}_M$ geometry. By exploiting a dual description in terms of F-theory compactified on a toric Calabi-Yau threefold $X_{N,M}$, we establish numerous symmetries that leave the BPS partition function $\mathcal{Z}_{N,M}$ invariant. They furthemore act in a non-perturbative fashion from the point of view of the low energy quiver gauge theory associated with the LST. We present different group theoretical organisations of these symmetries, thereby generalising the results of [arXiv:1811.03387] to the case of generic $M \geq 1$. We also provide a Mathematica package that allows to represent them in terms of matrices that act linearly on the Kähler parameters of $X_{N,M}$. From the perspective of dual realisations of the LSTs the symmetries found here act in highly nontrivial ways: as an example, we consider a formulation of $\mathcal{Z}_{N,M}$ in terms of correlation functions of a vertex operator algebra, whose commutation relations are governed by an affine quiver algebra. We show the impact of the symmetry transformations on the latter and discuss invariance of $\mathcal{Z}_{N,M}$ from this perspective for concrete examples.

Scale dependence of the Kondo interaction in the functional renormalization group formalism

Scale evolution of interactions between a Weyl fermion and a heavy magnetic impurity is calculated non-perturbatively using the functional renormalization group technique. Using an expansion around the vanishing pairing gap, we derive the flow equations for all possible quartic couplings in the system. We find that contrary to conventional perturbation theory, the usual spin-spin isotropic interaction necessarily splits into two invariant parts during the scale evolution, which are fully allowed by the $SU(2)$ spin-rotation symmetry. We also find the existence of an infrared stable interacting fixed point, which can be responsible for intermediate-coupling screening effects. The calculation scheme presented here is rather general and expected to be easily applicable to various spin-spin-like interactions in fermionic systems.

Band Flattening and Overlap Fermion

We show that, for each symmetry class based on the tenfold way classification, the effective Dirac operator obtained by integrating out the additional bulk direction takes a value in the corresponding classifying space, from which we obtain the flat band Hamiltonian. We then obtain the overlap Dirac operator for each symmetry class and establish the Ginsparg--Wilson relation associated with $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{T}$ symmetries, and also the mod-two index theorem.

Double Quiver Gauge Theory and BPS/CFT Correspondence

We provide a formalism using the $q$-Cartan matrix to compute the instanton partition function of quiver gauge theory on various manifolds. Applying this formalism to eight dimensional setups, we introduce the notion of double quiver gauge theory characterized by a pair of quivers. We also explore the BPS/CFT correspondence in eight dimensions based on the $q$-Cartan matrix formalism.

Aspects of Supergroup Gauge Theory

We provide a survey of recent studies of supergroup gauge theory. We first discuss supermatrix model as a zero-dimensional toy model of supergroup gauge theory and its geometric and algebraic characterization. We then focus on four-dimensional Yang--Mills theory with supergroup gauge symmetry and explore its non-perturbative properties, including instanton calculus, Seiberg-Witten geometry, Bethe/gauge correspondence, and its realization with intersecting defects.

Defect in Gauge Theory and Quantum Hall States

We study the surface defect in $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ $U(N)$ gauge theory in four dimensions and its relation to quantum Hall states in two dimensions. We first prove that the defect partition function becomes the Jack polynomial of the variables describing the brane positions by imposing the Higgsing condition and taking the bulk decoupling limit. Further tuning the adjoint mass parameter, we may obtain various fractional quantum Hall states, including Laughlin, Moore-Read, and Read-Rezayi states, due to the admissible condition of the Jack polynomial.

Classical group matrix models and universal criticality

We study generalizations of the Gross--Witten--Wadia unitary matrix model for the special orthogonal and symplectic groups. We show using a standard Coulomb gas treatment -- employing a path integral formalism for the ungapped phase and resolvent techniques for the gapped phase with one coupling constant -- that in the large $N$ limit, the free energy normalized modulo the square of the gauge group rank is twice the value for the unitary case. Using generalized Cauchy identities for character polynomials, we then demonstrate the universality of this phase transition for an arbitrary number of coupling constants by linking this model to the random partition based on the Schur measure.

Boundary Condition Analysis of First and Second Order Topological Insulators

We analytically study boundary conditions of the Dirac fermion models on a lattice, which describe the first and second order topological insulators. We obtain the dispersion relations of the edge and hinge states by solving these boundary conditions, and clarify that the Hamiltonian symmetry may provide a constraint on the boundary condition. We also demonstrate the edgehinge analog of the bulk-edge correspondence, in which the nontrivial topology of the gapped edge state ensures gaplessness of the hinge state.

Pfaffian Interaction and $BCD$-quiver Matrix Models

We study matrix models involving Pfaffian interactions as generalizations of the standard $β= 1$ and $β= 4$ matrix models. We present the Pfaffian formulas for the partition function and the characteristic polynomial averages. We also explore the matrix chain with the Pfaffian interaction, which realizes the BCD-type quiver matrix models.

Virasoro Constraint for Uglov Matrix Model

We study the root of unity limit of $(\textbf{q}, \textbf{t})$-deformed Virasoro matrix models, for which we call the resulting model Uglov matrix model. We derive the associated Virasoro constraints on the partition function and find agreement of the central charge with the expression obtained from the level-rank duality associated with the parafermion CFT.

The Schur Expansion of Characteristic Polynomials and Random Matrices

We develop a new framework to compute the exact correlators of characteristic polynomials, and their inverses, in random matrix theory. Our results hold for general potentials and incorporate the effects of an external source. In matrix model realizations of string theory, these correspond to correlation functions of exponentiated "(anti-)branes" in a given background of "momentum branes". Our method relies on expanding the (inverse) determinants in terms of Schur polynomials, then re-summing their expectation values over the allowed representations of the symmetric group. Beyond unifying previous, seemingly disparate calculations, this powerful technique immediately delivers two new results: 1) the full finite $N$ answer for the correlator of inverse determinant insertions in the presence of a matrix source, and 2) access to an interesting, novel regime $M>N$, where the number of inverse determinant insertions $M$ exceeds the size of the matrix $N$.
