EDWARD-NMT: Elastic Dimensions With Adaptive Routing and Dual-consistency for Neural Machine Translation

Sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) is a powerful paradigm for scaling Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and managing language heterogeneity. However, practical limitations hinder its deployment on resource-constrained devices: the entire expert pool must remain in memory, and the per-token compute budget is statically fixed during training by rigid top-k routing. We introduce EDWARD-NMT (Elastic Dimensions With Adaptive Routing and Dual-consistency for NMT), a novel MoE encoder-decoder architecture designed for a train once, deploy anywhere paradigm that exposes a family of deployable sub-networks at inference time. EDWARD-NMT integrates three key innovations: (i) Matryoshka-style elastic dimensions to flexibly reduce the memory footprint; (ii) an adaptive sigmoid router with a learned, task-conditioned threshold, allowing each token to dynamically determine its active expert count; and (iii) a dual-consistency objective to maximize the performance of the extracted sub-networks. Extensive experiments on PhoMT (En-Vi), WMT-14 (En-De), multilingual OPUS-16, and a multi-domain De-En benchmark validate our approach. The full-capacity architecture matches or exceeds strong MoE baselines with improved parameter efficiency. Furthermore, the sub-networks seamlessly extracted from a single checkpoint consistently outperform comparably sized dense Transformers without any retraining.

Towards Efficient Simultaneous Inverse Text Normalization with Pretrained Text-to-Text Language Model and Read-Tag-Write Policy

Streaming Inverse Text Normalization (ITN) is vital for converting spoken-form outputs from streaming Automatic Speech Recognition into formatted written text. Existing streaming ITN methods rely on hybrid systems combining neural tagging with expert-crafted finite-state transducer rules, limiting scalability across domains and languages. While end-to-end models offer superior scalability by learning directly from data, standard encoder-decoder architectures are inherently non-streaming due to global attention. In this paper, we propose an efficient streaming end-to-end ITN system, adapting a pretrained text-to-text model to leverage its robust linguistic knowledge. To enable streaming, we introduce architectural adaptations, a specialized training strategy, a Read-Tag-Write decoding policy, and inference optimizations. Experiments on Vietnamese datasets show accuracy comparable to non-streaming baselines, outperforming hybrid methods while satisfying real-time latency requirements.

ViP-VL: Vietnamese Self-supervised Speech Pretraining Model with Vector-Quantization Learning

We present ViP-VL, an efficient Vietnamese Self-supervised speech Pretraining model leveraging Vector-quantization Learning. To bridge the gap between high-resolution audio and efficient processing, ViP-VL incorporates Acoustic Stacking and Receptive Field Alignment to enable a synchronized 8x subsampling rate within the ChunkFormer architecture, while further enhancing representation robustness through a specialized Mask Selection Strategy during pretraining on the BEST-RQ framework. Pretrained on 17,000 hours of unlabeled Vietnamese speech, our model establishes new state-of-the-art results across four major downstream tasks: Automatic Speech Recognition, Speech Emotion Recognition, Dialect Classification, and Speaker Verification. To facilitate future research and the development of high-performance Vietnamese speech technologies, we publicly release our pretrained weights and implementation at github.com/khanld/chunkformer.
