The Galois theory of matrix $C$-rings

A theory of monoids in the category of bicomodules of a coalgebra $C$ or $C$-rings is developed. This can be viewed as a dual version of the coring theory. The notion of a matrix ring context consisting of two bicomodules and two maps is introduced and the corresponding example of a $C$-ring (termed a {\em matrix $C$-ring}) is constructed. It is shown that a matrix ring context can be associated to any bicomodule which is a one-sided quasi-finite injector. Based on this, the notion of a {\em Galois module} is introduced and the structure theorem, generalising Schneider's Theorem II [H.-J. Schneider, Israel J. Math., 72 (1990), 167--195], is proven. This is then applied to the $C$-ring associated to a weak entwining structure and a structure theorem for a weak $A$-Galois coextension is derived. The theory of matrix ring contexts for a firm coalgebra (or {\em infinite matrix ring contexts}) is outlined. A Galois connection associated to a matrix $C$-ring is constructed.

The Serre spectral sequence of a noncommutative fibration for de Rham cohomology

For differential calculi on noncommutative algebras, we construct a twisted de Rham cohomology using flat connections on modules. This has properties similar, in some respects, to sheaf cohomology on topological spaces. We also discuss generalised mapping properties of these theories, and relations of these properties to corings. Using this, we give conditions for the Serre spectral sequence to hold for a noncommutative fibration. This might be better read as giving the definition of a fibration in noncommutative differential geometry. We also study the multiplicative structure of such spectral sequences. Finally we show that some noncommutative homogeneous spaces satisfy the conditions to be such a fibration, and in the process clarify the differential structure on these homogeneous spaces. We also give two explicit examples of differential fibrations: these are built on the quantum Hopf fibration with two different differential structures.

The bicategories of corings

To a B-coring and a (B,A)-bimodule that is finitely generated and projective as a right A-module an A-coring is associated. This new coring is termed a base ring extension of a coring by a module. We study how the properties of a bimodule such as separability and the Frobenius properties are reflected in the induced base ring extension coring. Any bimodule that is finitely generated and projective on one side, together with a map of corings over the same base ring, lead to the notion of a module-morphism, which extends the notion of a morphism of corings (over different base rings). A module-morphism of corings induces functors between the categories of comodules. These functors are termed pull-back and push-out functors respectively and thus relate categories of comodules of different corings. We study when the pull-back functor is fully faithful and when it is an equivalence. A generalised descent associated to a morphism of corings is introduced. We define a category of module-morphisms, and show that push-out functors are naturally isomorphic to each other if and only if the corresponding module-morphisms are mutually isomorphic. All these topics are studied within a unifying language of bicategories and the extensive use is made of interpretation of corings as comonads in the bicategory Bim of bimodules and module-morphisms as 1-cells in the associated bicategories of comonads in Bim.

Complete coverings and Galois corings

It is shown that any finite complete covering of a non-commutative algebra in the sense of Calow and Matthes (J. Geom. Phys. 32 (2000), 114--165) gives rise to a Galois coring.

The structure of weak coalgebra-Galois extensions

Weak coalgebra-Galois extensions are studied. A notion of an invertible weak entwining structure is introduced. It is proven that, within an invertible weak entwining structure, the surjectivity of the canonical map implies bijectivity provided the structure coalgebra C is either coseparable or projective as a C-comodule.

Galois comodules

Galois comodules of a coring are studied. The conditions for a simple comodule to be a Galois comodule are found. A special class of Galois comodules termed principal comodules is introduced. These are defined as Galois comodules that are projective over their comodule endomorphism rings. A complete description of principal comodules in the case a background ring is a field is found. In particular it is shown that a (finitely generated and projective) right comodule of an $A$-coring $\mathcal C$ is principal provided a lifting of the canonical map is a split epimorphism in the category of left $\mathcal C$-comodules. This description is then used to characterise principal extensions or non-commutative principal bundles. Specifically, it is proven that, over a field, any entwining structure consisting of an algebra $A$, a coseparable coalgebra $C$ and a bijective entwining map $ψ$ together with a group-like element in $C$ give rise to a principal extension provided the lifted canonical map is surjective. Induction of Galois and principal comodules via morphisms of corings is described. A connection between the relative injectivity of a Galois comodule and the properties of the extension of endomorphism rings associated to this comodule is revealed.

Yang-Baxter Systems and Entwining Structures

It is shown that a Yang-Baxter system can be constructed from any entwining structure. It is also shown that, conversely, Yang-Baxter systems of certain type lead to entwining structures. Examples of Yang-Baxter systems associated to entwining structures are given, and a Yang-Baxter operator of Hecke type is defined for any bijective entwining map.

The van Est spectral sequence for Hopf algebras

Various aspects of the de Rham cohomology of Hopf algebras are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the de Rham cohomology of an algebra with the differentiable coaction of a cosemisimple Hopf algebra with trivial 0-th cohomology group, reduces to the de Rham cohomology of (co)invariant forms. Spectral sequences are discussed and the van Est spectral sequence for Hopf algebras is introduced. A definition of Hopf-Lie algebra cohomology is also given.

The Chern-Galois character

Following the idea of Galois-type extensions and entwining structures, we define the notion of a principal extension of noncommutative algebras. We show that modules associated to such extensions via finite-dimensional corepresentations are finitely generated projective, and determine an explicit formula for the Chern character applied to the thus obtained modules.

Dirac monopoles from the Matsumoto non-commutative spheres

It is shown that the non-commutative three-sphere introduced by Matsumoto is a total space of the quantum Hopf bundle over the classical two-sphere. A canonical connection is constructed, and is shown to coincide with the standard Dirac magnetic monopole.

On comatrix corings and bimodules

To any bimodule which is finitely generated and projective on one side one can associate a coring, known as a comatrix coring. A new description of comatrix corings in terms of data reminiscent of a Morita context is given. It is also studied how properties of bimodules are reflected in the associated comatrix corings. In particular it is shown that separable bimodules give rise to coseparable comatrix corings, while Frobenius bimodules induce Frobenius comatrix corings.

Hopf fibration and monopole connection over the contact quantum spheres

Noncommutative geometry of quantised contact spheres introduced by Omori, Maeda, Miyazaki and Yoshioka is studied. In particular it is proven that these spheres form a noncommutative Hopf fibration in the sense of Hopf-Galois extensions. The monopole (strong) connection is constructed, and projectors describing projective modules of all monopole charges are computed.

On coseparable and biseparable corings

A relationship between coseparable corings and separable non-unital rings is established. In particular it is shown that an A-coring C has an associative A-balanced product. A Morita context is constructed for a coseparable coring with a grouplike element. Biseparable corings are defined, and a conjecture relating them to Frobenius corings is proposed.

The structure of corings with a grouplike element

Characteristic properties of corings with a grouplike element are analysed. Associated differential graded rings are studied. A correspondence between categories of comodules and flat connections is established. A generalisation of the Cuntz-Quillen theorem relating existence of connections in a module to projectivity of this module is proven.

Towers of corings

The notion of a Frobenius coring is introduced, and it is shown that any such coring produces a tower of Frobenius corings and Frobenius extensions. This establishes a one-to-one correspondence between Frobenius corings and extensions.

Bialgebroids, $\times_{A}$-bialgebras and duality

An equivalence between Lu's bialgebroids, Xu's bialgebroids with an anchor and Takeuchi's $\times_{A}$-bialgebras is explicitly proven. A new class of examples of bialgebroids is constructed. A (formal) dual of a bialgebroid, termed bicoalgebroid, is defined. A weak Hopf algebra is shown to be an example of such a bicoalgebroid.

Doi-Koppinen modules for quantum groupoids

A definition of a Doi-Koppinen datum over a noncommutative algebra is proposed. The idea is to replace a bialgebra in a standard Doi-Koppinen datum with a bialgebroid. The corresponding category of Doi-Koppinen modules over a noncommutative algebra is introduced. A weak Doi-Koppinen datum and module of [G. Bohm. Comm. Algebra, 28:4687--4698, 2000] are shown to be examples of a Doi-Koppinen datum and module over an algebra. A coring associated to a Doi-Koppinen datum over an algebra is constructed and various properties of induction and forgetful functors for Doi-Koppinen modules over an algebra are deduced from the properies of corresponding functors in the category of comodules of a coring.

Non-commutative 4-spheres based on all Podleś 2-spheres and beyond

A wide class of noncommutative spaces, including 4-spheres based on all the quantum 2-spheres and suspensions of matrix quantum groups is described. For each such space a noncommutative vector bundle is constructed. This generalises and clarifies various recent constructions of noncommutative 4-spheres.
