Twisted arithmetic Siegel Weil formula on X0(N)

In this paper, we study twisted arithmetic divisors on the modular curve X_0(N) with N square-free. For each pair (Δ, r) where Δ>0 and Δ\equiv r^2 \mod 4N, we constructed a twisted arithmetic theta function ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ) which is a generating function of arithmetic twisted Heegner divisors. We prove the modularity of ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ), along the way, we also identify the arithmetic pairing \langle ϕ_{Δ, r}(τ),\widehatω_N \rangle with special value of some Eisenstein series, where \widehatω_N is a normalized metric Hodge line bundle.

Difference of modular functions and their CM value factorization

In this paper, we use Borcherds lifting and the big CM value formula of Bruinier, Kudla, and Yang to give an explicit factorization formula for the norm of $Ψ(\frac{d_1+\sqrt{d_1}}2) -Ψ(\frac{d_2+\sqrt{d_2}}2)$, where $Ψ$ is the $j$-invariant or the Weber invariant $ω_2$. The $j$-invariant case gives another proof of the well-known Gross-Zagier factorization formula of singular moduli, while the Weber invariant case gives a proof of the Yui-Zagier conjecture for $ω_2$. The method used here could be extended to deal with other modular functions on a genus zero modular curve.

CM fields of Dyhedral type and the Colmez conjecture

In this paper, we consider some CM fields which we call of dihedral type and compute the Artin $L$-functions associated to all CM types of these CM fields. As a consequence of this calculation, we see that the Colmez conjecture in this case is very closely related to understanding the log derivatives of certain Hecke characters of real quadratic fields. Recall that the `abelian case' of the Colmez conjecture, proved by Colmez himself, amounts to understanding the log derivatives of Hecke characters of $\Q$ (cyclotomic characters). In this paper, we also prove that the Colmez conjecture holds for `unitary CM types of signature $(n-1, 1)$' and holds on average for `unitary CM types of a fixed CM number field of signature $(n-r, r)$'.

Borcherds Products on Unitary Group $U(2,1)$

In this note, we construct canonical bases for the spaces of weakly holomorphic modular forms with poles supported at the cusp $\infty$ for $Γ_{0}(4)$ of integral weight $k$ for $k\leq-1$, and we make use of the basis elements for the case $k=-1$ to construct explicit Borcherds products on unitary group $U(2,1)$.

Heights of Kudla-Rapoport divisors and derivatives of L-functions

We study special cycles on integral models of Shimura varieties associated with unitary similitude groups of signature (n-1,1). We construct an arithmetic theta lift from harmonic Maass forms of weight 2-n to the arithmetic Chow group of the integral model of a unitary Shimura variety, by associating to a harmonic Maass form f a linear combination of Kudla-Rapoport divisors, equipped with the Green function given by the regularized theta lift of f. Our main result is an equality of two complex numbers: (1) the height pairing of the arithmetic theta lift of f against a CM cycle, and (2) the central derivative of the convolution L-function of a weight n cusp form (depending on f) and the theta function of a positive definite hermitian lattice of rank n-1. When specialized to the case n=2, this result can be viewed as a variant of the Gross-Zagier formula for Shimura curves associated to unitary groups of signature (1,1). The proof relies on, among other things, a new method for computing improper arithmetic intersections.

Quaternions and Kudla's matching princple

In this paper, we prove some interesting identities, among average representation numbers (associated to definite quaternion algebras) and `degree' of Hecke correspondences on Shimura curves (associated to indefinite quaternion algebras).

On the pullback of an arithmetic theta function

In this paper, we consider the relation between the simplest types of arithmetic theta series, those associated to the cycles on the moduli space $\Cal C$ of elliptic curves with CM by the ring of integers $\OK$ in an imaginary quadratic field $\kay$, on the one hand, and those associated to cycles on the arithmetic surface $\M$ parametrizing 2-dimensional abelian varieties with an action of the maximal order $O_B$ in an indefinite quaternion algebra $B$ over $\Q$, on the other. We show that the arithmetic degree of the pullback to $Cal C$ of the arithmetic theta function of weight 3/2 valued in $\hat CH^1(\M)$ can be expressed as a linear combination of arithmetic theta functions of weight 1 for $\Cal C$ and unary theta series. This identity can be viewed as an arithmetic seesaw identity. In addition, we show that the arithmetic theta series of weight 1 coincide with the central derivative of certain incoherent Eisenstein series for SL(2)/Q, generalizing earlier joint work with M. Rapoport for the case of a prime discriminant.

An arithmetic intersection formula on Hilbert modular surfaces

In this paper, we obtain an explicit arithmetic intersection formula on a Hilbert modular surface between the diagonal embedding of the modular curve and a CM cycle associated to a non-biquadratic CM quartic field. This confirms a special case of the author's conjecture with J. Bruinier in \cite{BY}, and is a generalization of the beautiful factorization formula of Gross and Zagier on singular moduli. As an application, we proved the first non-trivial non-abelian Chowla-Selberg formula, a special case of Colmez conjecture.

Arithmetic Intersection on a Hilbert Modular Surface and the Faltings Height

In this paper, we prove an explicit arithmetic intersection formula between arithmetic Hirzebruch-Zagier divisors and arithmetic CM cycles in a Hilbert modular surface over $\mathbb Z$. As applications, we obtain the first `non-abelian' Chowla-Selberg formula, which is a special case of Colmez's conjecture; an explicit arithmetic intersection formula between arithmetic Humbert surfaces and CM cycles in the arithmetic Siegel modular variety of genus two; Lauter's conjecture about the denominators of CM values of Igusa invariants; and a result about bad reductions of CM genus two curves.

Faltings heights of big CM cycles and derivatives of L-functions

We give a formula for the values of automorphic Green functions on the special rational 0-cycles (big CM points) attached to certain maximal tori in the Shimura varieties associated to rational quadratic spaces of signature (2d,2). Our approach depends on the fact that the Green functions in question are constructed as regularized theta lifts of harmonic weak Mass forms, and it involves the Siegel-Weil formula and the central derivatives of incoherent Eisenstein series for totally real fields. In the case of a weakly holomorphic form, the formula is an explicit combination of quantities obtained from the Fourier coefficients of the central derivative of the incoherent Eisenstein series. In the case of a general harmonic weak Maass form, there is an additional term given by the central derivative of a Rankin-Selberg type convolution.

CM values of automorphic Green functions on orthogonal groups over totally real fields

Generalizing work of Gross--Zagier and Schofer on singular moduli, we study the CM values of regularized theta lifts of harmonic Whittaker forms. We compute the archimedian part of the height pairing of arithmetic special divisors and CM cycles on Shimura varieties associated to certain quadratic spaces over an arbitrary totally real base field. As a special case, we obtain an explicit formula for the norms of the CM values of those meromorphic modular forms arising as regularized theta lifts of holomorphic Whittaker forms.

Faltings heights of CM cycles and derivatives of L-functions

We study the Faltings height pairing of arithmetic Heegner divisors and CM cycles on Shimura varieties associated to orthogonal groups. We compute the Archimedian contribution to the height pairing and derive a conjecture relating the total pairing to the central derivative of a Rankin L-function. We prove the conjecture in certain cases where the Shimura variety has dimension 0, 1, or 2. In particular, we obtain a new proof of the Gross-Zagier formula.

Reduction of CM elliptic curves and modular function congruences

We study congruences of the form F(j(z)) | U(p) = G(j(z)) mod p, where U(p) is the p-th Hecke operator, j is the basic modular invariant 1/q+744+196884q+... for SL2(Z), and F,G are polynomials with integer coefficients. Using the interplay between singular (a.k.a. CM) j-invariants in characteristic zero and supersingular ones in characteristic p, we obtain such congruences in which F is the minimal polynomial of a CM j-invariant, and give a sufficient condition for G to be a constant polynomial in these congruences.

Twisted Borcherds products on Hilbert modular surfaces and their CM values

We construct a natural family of rational functions $\tildeΨ_m$ on a Hilbert modular surface from the classical $j$-invariant and its Hecke translates. These functions are obtained by means of a multiplicative analogue of the Doi-Naganuma lifting and can be viewed as twisted Borcherds products. We then study when the value of $\tildeΨ_m$ at a CM point associated to a non-biquadratic quartic CM field generates the `CM class field' of the reflex field. For the real quadratic field $\Q(\sqrt{5})$, we factorize the norm of some of these CM values to $\Q(\sqrt 5)$ numerically.

On CM abelian varieties over imaginary quadratic fields

In this paper, we associate canonically to every imaginary quadratic field $K=\Bbb Q(\sqrt{-D})$ one or two isogenous classes of CM abelian varieties over $K$, depending on whether $D$ is odd or even ($D \ne 4$). These abelian varieties are characterized as of smallest dimension and smallest conductor, and such that the abelian varieties themselves descend to $\Bbb Q$. When $D$ is odd or divisible by 8, they are the `canonical' ones first studied by Gross and Rohrlich. We prove that these abelian varieties have the striking property that the vanishing order of their $L$-function at the center is dictated by the root number of the associated Hecke character. We also prove that the smallest dimension of a CM abelian variety over $K$ is exactly the ideal class number of $K$ and classify when a CM abelian variety over $K$ has the smallest dimension.

Non-vanishing of the Central Derivative of Canonical Hecke L-functions

In the early 1980s, Rohrlich began a study of canonical Hecke characters, which are closely related to the simplest examples of CM elliptic curves. He and Montgomery showed the non-vanishing of the central value when the L-function has an even functional equation, and we now show the non-vanishing of the central derivative when the functional equation is odd. Using the results of Gross-Zagier and Kolyvagin-Logachev, we can apply the non-vanishing to the ranks and Shafarevitch-Tate groups of the Q-curves "A(p)" studied by Gross in his thesis. In particular, their rank is determined by a congruence condition. http://www.math.yale.edu/users/steve/milleryang

A peculiar modular form of weight one

In this paper we construct a modular form f of weight one attached to an imaginary quadratic field K. This form, which is non-holomorphic and not a cusp form, has several curious properties. Its negative Fourier coefficients are non-zero precisely for neqative integers -n such that n >0 is a norm from K, and these coefficients involve the exponential integral. The Mellin transform of f has a simple expression in terms of the Dedekind zeta function of K and the difference of the logarithmic derivatives of Riemann zeta function and of the Dirichlet L-series of K. Finally, the positive Fourier coefficients of f are connected with the theory of complex multiplication and arise in the work of Gross and Zagier on singular moduli.
