Polynomial Chaotic Inflation in the Planck Era

We propose a chaotic inflation model in supergravity based on polynomial interactions of the inflaton. Specifically we study the chaotic inflation model with quadratic, cubic and quartic couplings in the scalar potential and show that the predicted scalar spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio can lie within the 1 sigma region allowed by the Planck results.

Moduli dark matter and the search for its decay line using Suzaku X-ray telescope

Light scalar fields called moduli arise from a variety of different models involving supersymmetry and/or string theory; thus their existence is a generic prediction of leading theories for physics beyond the standard model. They also present a formidable, long-standing problem for cosmology. We argue that an anthropic solution to the moduli problem exists in the case of small moduli masses, and that it automatically leads to dark matter in the form of moduli. The recent discovery of the 125 GeV Higgs boson implies a lower bound on the moduli mass of about a keV. This form of dark matter is consistent with the observed properties of structure formation, and it is amenable to detection with the help of X-ray telescopes. We present the results of a search for such dark matter particles using spectra extracted from the first deep X-ray observations of the Draco and Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidal galaxies, which are dark matter dominated systems with extreme mass-to-light ratios and low intrinsic backgrounds. No emission line is positively detected, and we set new constraints on the relevant new physics.

Muon g-2 and 125 GeV Higgs in Split-Family Supersymmetry

We discuss the minimal supersymmetric standard model with "split-family" spectrum where the sfermions in the first two generations are in the hundreds GeV to a TeV range while the sfermions in the third generation are in the range of tens TeV. With the split-family spectrum, the deviation of the muon g-2 and the observed Higgs boson mass are explained simultaneously. It is predicted that the gluino and the squarks in the first two generations are within the reach of the LHC experiments in most favored parameter space for the universal gaugino mass, which can be tested by searching for events with missing transverse energy or events with stable charged massive particles. We also point out that the split-family scenario can be consistent with the focus point scenario for the non-universal gaugino masses where the required mu-term is in the hundreds GeV range.

Primordial black hole formation from an axion-like curvaton model

We argue that the existence of the cold dark matter is explained by primordial black holes. We show that a significant number of primordial black holes can be formed in an axion-like curvaton model, in which the highly blue-tilted power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbations is achieved. It is found that the produced black holes with masses $\sim 10^{20} -10^{38} \mathrm{g}$ account for the present cold dark matter. We also argue the possibility of forming the primordial black holes with mass $\sim 10^5 M_{\odot}$ as seeds of the supermassive black holes.

Heavy Squarks and Light Sleptons in Gauge Mediation ~From the viewpoint of 125 GeV Higgs Boson and Muon g-2~

In the framework of gauge mediation models, we investigate scenarios with heavy squarks and light sleptons, motivated by the recent discovery of the Higgs boson and the deviation of the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) from the SM prediction. We show that only models with a messenger multiplet in the adjoint representation of SU(5) GUT gauge group are the unique possibility that sleptons are light enough to explain the muon g-2 in the minimal setup. We also show that, if there is an additional source of the Higgs soft masses, the muon g-2 can be explained with messenger multiples in the fundamental representation of SU(5) with the help of the light higgsino. Some phenomenological aspects of these models are also discussed.

Anomaly mediation deformed by axion

We show that in supersymmetric axion models the axion supermultiplet obtains a sizable F-term due to a non-supersymmetric dynamics and it generally gives the gaugino masses comparable to the anomaly mediation contribution. Thus the gaugino mass relation predicted by the anomaly mediation effect can be significantly modified in the presence of axion to solve the strong CP problem.

Why is the Supersymmetry Breaking Scale Unnaturally High?

Evidence is mounting that natural supersymmetry at the weak scale is not realized in nature. On the other hand, string theory suggests that supersymmetry may be present at some energy scale, and gauge coupling unification implies that that energy scale may be relatively low. A puzzling question is then why nature would prefer a low, but not completely natural supersymmetry breaking scale. Here we offer one possible explanation, which simultaneously addresses also the strong CP and mu problems. We introduce an axion, and suppose that the Peccei-Quinn and supersymmetry breaking scales are connected. If we further assume that R-parity is not conserved, then the axion is required to be dark matter, and the Peccei-Quinn/supersymmetry breaking scale is required to be at least ~10^12 GeV. Gravity mediation then yields scalar superpartners with masses of at least ~100 TeV. The gauginos are likely to obtain loop-factor suppressed masses through anomaly mediation and higgsino threshold corrections, and thus may be accessible at the LHC. The axion should be probed at phase II of the ADMX experiment, and signs of R-parity violation may be seen in the properties of the gauginos.

A Simple Solution to the Polonyi Problem in Gravity Mediation

The Polonyi field is a necessary ingredient in any viable scenario of gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking. However, it is known that the presence of the Polonyi field leads to several serious cosmological problems, which are collectively referred to as the Polonyi problem. We show that the Polonyi problem can be solved if the Polonyi field couples to a pseudo modulus in the superpotential and this pseudo modulus has a large field expectation value during inflation. To illustrate our idea, we construct an explicit model which can be readily connected to scenarios of gravity mediation. The generation of the mass parameters contained in our model by strong gauge dynamics is also commented on.

Natural SUSY's Last Hope: R-parity Violation via UDD Operators

Here, we give a broad overview of the more natural spectra allowed by the LHC when UDD R-parity violation is allowed. Because R-parity violation removes the missing energy signals in colliders, the experimental constraints on the gluino, stops, sbottoms and higgsinos are relatively mild. We also show that UDD R-parity violation and lepton number conservation can be made consistent with grand unification. This feat is achieved through the product unification, SU(5) X U(3). In this model, mixing of the SM quarks with additional quark like particles charged under the U(3) generate a UDD R-parity violating operator. Furthermore, these models are also capable of generating a "natural" spectra. The emergence of these more natural low-scale spectra relies heavily on the fact that the gaugino masses are non-universal, a natural consequence of product unification.

Chaotic Inflation with a Fractional Power-Law Potential in Strongly Coupled Gauge Theories

Models of chaotic inflation with a fractional power-law potential are not only viable but also testable in the foreseeable future. We show that such models can be realized in simple strongly coupled supersymmetric gauge theories. In these models, the energy scale during inflation is dynamically generated by the dimensional transmutation due to the strong gauge dynamics. Therefore, such models not only explain the origin of the fractional power in the inflationary potential but also provide a reason why the energy scale of inflation is much smaller than the Planck scale.

Enhanced Higgs Mass in a Gaugino Mediation Model without the Polonyi Problem

We consider a SUSY breaking scenario without the Polonyi problem. To solve the problem, the enhanced couplings of the Polonyi field to an inflaton, gauge kinetic functions and itself are assumed. As a result, a gaugino mediated SUSY breaking occurs. In this scenario, the Higgs boson mass becomes consistent with the recently observed value of the Higgs-like boson (i.e., m_h ~= 125 GeV) for the gluino mass about 4TeV, which is, however, out of the reach of the LHC experiment. We show that the trilinear coupling of the scalar top is automatically enhanced by the presence of the extra matters. With such extra matters, the Higgs mass as large as 125 GeV can be realized with the gluino mass of 1-2 TeV which is within the reach of the LHC experiment. In our scenario, the gravitino is the lightest SUSY particle and the candidate for dark matter, and the Wino, Bino, and sleptons are in a range from 200 GeV to 700 GeV.

Non-Gaussianity from Attractor Curvaton

We propose a curvaton model in which the initial condition of the curvaton oscillation is determined by its attractor behavior during inflation. Assuming a chaotic inflation model, we find that the initial condition determined by the attractor behavior is appropriate to generate a sizable non-Gaussianity contribution to the curvature perturbation, which will be tested in the foreseeable future. Implications on the thermal history of the universe and on particle physics models are also discussed.

Eluding the Gravitino Overproduction in Inflaton Decay

It is known that gravitinos are non-thermally produced in inflaton decay processes, which excludes many inflation models for a wide range of the gravitino mass. We find that the constraints from the gravitino overproduction can be greatly relaxed if the supersymmetry breaking field is much lighter than the inflaton, and if the dynamical scale of the supersymmetry breaking is higher than the inflaton mass. In particular, we show that many inflation models then become consistent with the pure gravity mediation with O(100)TeV gravitino which naturally explains the recently observed Higgs boson mass of about 125GeV.

High Scale SUSY Breaking From Topological Inflation

The recently observed mass ~ 125 GeV for the Higgs boson suggests a high-energy scale SUSY breaking, above O(10) TeV. It is, however, very puzzling why nature chooses such a high energy scale for the SUSY breaking, if the SUSY is a solution to the hierarchy problem. We show that the pure gravity mediation provides us with a possible solution to this puzzle if the topological inflation is the last inflation in the early universe. We briefly discuss a chaotic inflation model in which a similar solution can be obtained.

Non-Anomalous Discrete R-symmetry Decrees Three Generations

We show that more than two generations of quarks and leptons are required to have an anomaly free discrete R-symmetry larger than R-parity, provided that the supersymmetric Standard Model can be minimally embedded into a grand unified theory. This connects an explanation for the number of generations with seemingly unrelated problems like supersymmetry breaking, proton decay, the mu problem, and the cosmological constant through a discrete R-symmetry. We also show that three generations is uniquely required by a non-anomalous discrete R-symmetry in classes of grand unified theories such as the ones based on (semi-)simple gauge groups.

A 125GeV Higgs Boson and Muon g-2 in More Generic Gauge Mediation

Recently, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported exciting hints of a Standard Model-like Higgs boson with a mass around 125GeV. A Higgs boson this heavy is difficult to realize in conventional models of gauge mediation. Here we revisit the lightest Higgs boson mass in "more generic gauge mediation," where the Higgs doublets mix with the messenger doublets. We show that a Higgs boson mass around 125GeV can be realized in more generic gauge mediation models, even for a relatively light gluino mass ~1TeV. We also show that the muon anomalous magnetic moment can be within 1sigma of the experimental value for these models, even when the Higgs boson is relatively heavy. We also discuss the LHC constraints and the prospects of discovery.

$θ_{13}$ in Neutrino Mass Matrix with the Minimal Texture

We show that the neutrino mass matrix with the minimal texture leads to the neutrino mass and mixing that are empirically determined, including $θ_{13}$ that is measured recently at a high precision. This mass matrix, where the Majorana nature of the neutrino is essential, only allows the normal hierarchy of the neutrino mass, excluding either inverse mass hierarchy or degenerate mass neutrinos, and hence predicts the effective mass of double beta decay to lie within the range $m_{ee}=3.7-5.6$ eV.

Pure Gravity Mediation of Supersymmetry Breaking at the LHC

Supersymmetric theories which can allow for a 125 GeV Higgs mass and also solve the naturalness and susy flavor problems now require a fair degree of complexity. Here we consider the simplest possibility for supersymmetry near the weak scale, but with the requirement of naturalness dropped. In "pure gravity mediation", all supersymmetric particles except for the gauginos lie at tens to thousands of TeV, with the gauginos obtaining loop suppressed masses automatically by anomaly mediation and higgsino threshold corrections. The gauginos are the lightest superpartners, and we investigate the current collider constraints on their masses, as well as the future reach of the LHC. We consider gluino pair production with a jets + missing energy signature, as well as events with disappearing charged tracks caused by charged winos decaying into their neutral partners. We show that presently, gluino masses less than about 1 TeV and wino masses less than about 300 GeV are excluded, and that the 14 TeV LHC can probe gluino masses up to about 2 TeV and wino masses up to 1 TeV.
