Cosmological Moduli Problem in Low Cutoff Theory

We show that the cosmological moduli problem is solved, without relying on huge late-time entropy production, if the universal cutoff scale of the theory is a few orders of magnitude smaller than the Planck scale. We obtain a general estimate of the modulus abundance in terms of the inflationary scale and the reheating temperature, and find in particular that the reheating temperature can be high enough for the non-thermal leptogenesis to work.

Higgs Boson Mass in Low Scale Gauge Mediation Models

We consider low scale gauge mediation models with a very light gravitino m_{3/2}~16 eV, in the light of recent experimental hints on the Higgs boson mass. The light gravitino is very interesting since there is no gravitino over-production problem, but it seems difficult to explain the Higgs boson mass of ~125 GeV. This is because of the conflict between the light gravitino mass and heavy SUSY particle masses needed for producing the relatively heavy Higgs boson mass. We consider two possible extensions in this paper: a singlet extension of the Higgs sector, and strongly coupled gauge mediation. We show that there is a large parameter space, in both scenarios, where the Higgs boson mass of ~125 GeV is explained without any conflict with such a very light gravitino.

Naive Dimensional Analysis in Holography

Naive dimensional analysis (NDA) is a widely used ansatz to estimate coupling constants among composite states emerging from dynamics of a strongly coupled gauge theory. However, the validity of NDA is still unclear because of the difficulty in calculating these quantities in strongly coupled theories. We examine the NDA ansatz using gauge/string duality, by estimating glueball coupling constants from gravitational description. The NDA scaling rule for coupling constants of some types of glueballs is verified and extended by both generic estimation and numerical calculations. The scaling rule verified in this article can be applied to some class of quiver gauge theories as well, not just to gauge theories with a single gauge group $SU(N_c)$.

Seesaw Mechanism with Occam's Razor

We discuss the seesaw mechanism which includes the minimum number of parameters for successful leptogenesis and three neutrino oscillations in the spirit of Occam's razor. We show that models with two right-handed neutrinos with two texture zeros supported by Occam's razor cannot fit the observed neutrino parameters consistently for the normal light neutrino mass hierarchy. For the inverted light neutrino mass hierarchy, on the other hand, we find that the models can fit the observed neutrino parameters consistently. Besides, we show that the model predicts the maximal Dirac CP-phase of the neutrino mixing matrix in the measurable range in the foreseeable future for the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. We also show that the predicted effective Majorana neutrino mass responsible for the neutrinoless double beta decay is around 50 meV which is also within reach of future experiments.

The Lightest Higgs Boson Mass in the MSSM with Strongly Interacting Spectators

We propose a new mechanism for producing a Higgs boson mass near 125 GeV within the MSSM. By coupling the MSSM Higgs boson to a set of strongly interacting fields, large corrections to the Higgs quartic coupling are induced. Although the Higgs doublets do not participate in the strong dynamics, they feel the effects of the strongly coupled sector via (semi-)perturbative interactions. These same strong dynamics are also capable of generating the $μ$-term. Additionally, this strong sector is in the conformal window, which drives the couplings to an infrared fixed point and naturally generates model parameters of the appropriate size.

Primordial seeds of supermassive black holes

Supermassive black holes exist in the centers of galaxies, including Milky Way, but there is no compelling theory of their formation. Furthermore, observations of quasars imply that supermassive black holes have already existed at some very high redshifts, suggesting the possibility of their primordial origin. In a class of well-motivated models, inflationary epoch could include two or more periods of inflation dominated by different scalar fields. The transition between such periods of inflation could enhance the spectrum of density perturbations on some specific scale, which could lead to formation of primordial black holes with a very narrow range of masses of the order of 10^5 solar masses. These primordial black holes could have provided the requisite seeds for the observed population of supermassive black holes.

Gravity mediation without a Polonyi problem

Recent indications of the 125GeV Higgs at the LHC can be explained in a relatively high-scale SUSY scenario where the sparticle masses are multi-TeV as is realized in the focus-point region. However, it suffers from the notorious cosmological Polonyi problem. We argue that the Polonyi problem is solved and thermal or non-thermal leptogenesis scenario works successfully, if a certain Polonyi coupling to the inflaton is enhanced by a factor of 10-100.

Stau-catalyzed d-t Nuclear Fusion

The gravitino of mass 10-100 GeV is a well motivated scenario in supergravity. If the stau is the next lightest supersymmetry particle, its life-time becomes order of $10^{6-8}$ sec. If it is the case the stau makes a big impact on the nuclear fusion, since it is a charged particle. In this paper we perform a detailed calculation of a stau-catalyzed d-t fusion. We find that if certain technical conditions are satisfied, it is not hopeless to use the nuclear fusion as a source of energy.

Pure Gravity Mediation with m_{3/2} = 10-100TeV

Recently, the ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported exciting hints of a Standard Model-like Higgs boson with a mass around 125GeV. Such a Higgs boson mass can be easily obtained in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model based on the "pure gravity mediation model" where the sfermion masses and the Higgs mass parameters are in tens to hundreds TeV range while the gauginos are in the hundreds GeV to TeV range. In this paper, we discuss detalis of the gaugino mass spectrum in the pure gravity mediation model. We also discuss the signals of the model at the current and future experiments such as cosmic ray observations and the LHC experiments. In particular, we show that the parameter space which is consistent with the thermal leptogenesis can be fully surveyed experimentally in the foreseeable future.

The Lightest Higgs Boson Mass in Pure Gravity Mediation Model

We discuss the lightest Higgs boson mass in the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model with "pure gravity mediation". By requiring that the model provides the observed dark matter density, we find that the lightest Higgs boson is predicted to be below 132GeV. We also find that the upper limit on the lightest Higgs boson mass becomes 128GeV, if we further assume thermal leptogenesis mechanism as the origin of baryon asymmetry of universe. The interrelations between the Higgs boson mass and the gaugino masses are also discussed.

Focus Point Assisted by Right-Handed Neutrinos

The large hadron collider experiments have now reached the focus point region in which the scalar masses are multi-TeV. We study the parameter region of the focus point scenario which may realize a natural electroweak symmetry breaking avoiding serious fine tuning. We show that the region with a mild tuning of 3-5 % level is expanded by introducing right-handed neutrinos in the framework of the seesaw scenario. We discuss the prediction of the Higgs mass, bounds on the squark and gluino masses, and the relic density of the lightest neutralino in such a parameter region.

The GeV-scale dark matter with B-L asymmetry

One of important properties of dark matter is its stability. The U(1)$_{\rm B-L}$ gauge symmetry is the most attractive symmetry to guarantee the stability. Though the symmetry is expected to be broken at very high energy scale to account for tiny neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism, the residual discrete symmetry of U(1)$_{\rm B-L}$ can stabilize the dark matter naturally. We prove that, when there is new physics connecting B$-$L charges of dark matter and standard model particles at the scale between the electroweak and the U(1)$_{\rm B-L}$ breaking, the mass of dark matter is definitely predicted to be (5--7)/$Q_{\rm DM}$ GeV ($Q_{DM}$ is the B$-$L charge of dark matter) independent not only of details of the new physics but also of its energy scale. We also show two attractive examples. First one is the scalar dark matter with the B$-$L charge of one, which turns out to be very consistent with current CoGeNT results. Another one is the fermionic dark matter having the B$-$L charge of one third, which is also attractive from the viewpoint of model building.

On the Adiabatic Solution to the Polonyi/Moduli Problem

One of the solutions to the cosmological Polonyi problem is to introduce a large coupling between the Polonyi field and the inflaton so that the Polonyi field adiabatically tracks the temporal minimum of the potential. We study general conditions for the adiabatic suppression mechanism to work, and find that a non-negligible amount of the Polonyi field is induced in the form of coherent oscillations at the end of inflation. In the case of low reheating temperature, this contribution is so small that it does not cause cosmological problems. On the other hand, this contribution may be significant for a relatively high reheating temperature and we still need some amount of tuning in order to avoid the Polonyi problem. We also point out that Polonyi particles produced from thermal plasma pose a severe constraint on the reheating temperature. Furthermore, we extend the original framework to include enhanced couplings of the Polonyi field with the visible particles as well as with itself, and derive upper bounds on the reheating temperature after inflation. We also investigate the adiabatic solution to the cosmological moduli problem in gauge and anomaly mediation.

Probing Extra Matter in Gauge Mediation Through the Lightest Higgs Boson Mass

We discuss the implications of the excesses in LHC Higgs boson searches on the gauge mediated supersymmetric standard model, for the mass range 120-140\,GeV. We find that a relatively heavy lightest Higgs boson mass in this range can be reconciled with light SUSY particles, $m_{\rm gluino}<2$\,TeV, if there are additional fields which couple directly to the Higgs boson. We also find that the mass of this extra matter can be predicted rather precisely in gauge mediation for a given Higgs boson and gluino mass.

Non-anomalous Discrete R-symmetry, Extra Matters, and Enhancement of the Lightest SUSY Higgs Mass

We consider low-energy supersymmetric model with non-anomalous discrete R-symmetry. In such a model, to make the R-symmetry non-anomalous, new particles with gauge quantum numbers should be inevitably added to the particle content of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). Those new particles may couple to the Higgs boson, resulting in a significant enhancement of the lightest Higgs mass. We show that, in such a model, the lightest Higgs mass can be much larger than the MSSM upper bound; the lightest Higgs mass as large as 140 GeV (or larger) becomes possible.

Relatively Heavy Higgs Boson in More Generic Gauge Mediation

We discuss gauge mediation models where the doublet messengers and Higgs doublets are allowed to mix through a "charged" coupling. The charged coupling replaces messenger parity as a means of suppressing flavor changing neutral currents without introducing any unwanted CP violation. As a result of this mixing between the Higgs doublets and the messengers, relatively large A-terms are generated at the messenger scale. These large A-terms produce a distinct weak scale mass spectrum. Particularly, we show that the lightest Higgs boson mass is enhanced and can be as heavy as 125GeV for a gluino mass as light as 2TeV. We also show that the stops are heavier than that predicted by conventional gauge mediation models. It is also shown that these models have a peculiar slepton mass spectrum.

Simplified R-Symmetry Breaking and Low-Scale Gauge Mediation

We argue that some of the difficulties in constructing realistic models of low-scale gauge mediation are artifacts of the narrow set of models that have been studied. In particular, much attention has been payed to the scenario in which the Goldstino superfield in an O'Raifeartaigh model is responsible for both supersymmetry breaking and R-symmetry breaking. In such models, the competing problems of generating sufficiently massive gauginos while preserving an acceptably light gravitino can be quite challenging. We show that by sharing the burdens of breaking supersymmetry and R-symmetry with a second field, these problems are easily solved even within the O'Raifeartaigh framework. We present explicit models realizing minimal gauge mediation with a gravitino mass in the eV range that are both calculable and falsifiable.
