SU(5) Unification with TeV-scale Leptoquarks

It was previously noted that SU(5) unification can be achieved via the simple addition of light scalar leptoquarks from two split $\bf10$ multiplets. We explore the parameter space of this model in detail and find that unification requires at least one leptoquark to have mass below $\approx16\,$TeV. We point out that introducing splitting of the $\bf24$ allows the unification scale to be raised beyond $10^{16}$ GeV, while a U(1)$_{PQ}$ symmetry can be imposed to forbid dangerous proton decay mediated by the light leptoquarks. The latest bounds from LHC searches are combined and we find that a leptoquark as light as 400 GeV is still permitted. Finally, we discuss the interesting possibility that the leptoquarks required for unification could also be responsible for the $2.6σ$ deviation observed in the ratio $R_K$ at LHCb.

Leptogenesis after Chaotic Sneutrino Inflation and the Supersymmetry Breaking Scale

We discuss resonant leptogenesis arising from the decays of two nearly-degenerate right-handed neutrinos, identified as the inflaton and stabiliser superfields in a model of chaotic sneutrino inflation. We compare an analytical estimate of the baryon asymmetry $ η_B $ in the Boltzmann approximation to a numerical solution of the full density matrix equations, and find that the analytical result fails to capture the correct physics in certain regions of parameter space. The observed baryon asymmetry can be realised for a breaking of the mass degeneracy as small as $ \mathcal{O}(10^{-8}) $. The origin of such a small mass splitting is explained by considering supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking in supergravity, which requires a constant in the superpotential of the order of the gravitino mass $ m_{3/2} $ to cancel the cosmological constant. This yields additional terms in the (s)neutrino mass matrices, lifting the degeneracy and linking $ η_B $ to the SUSY breaking scale. We find that achieving the correct baryon asymmetry requires a gravitino mass $ m_{3/2} \geq \mathcal{O}(100) $ TeV.

Dark Matter Candidates in a Visible Heavy QCD Axion Model

In this paper, we discuss dark matter candidates in a visible heavy QCD axion model. There, a mirror copied sector of the Standard Model with mass scales larger than the Standard Model is introduced. By larger mass scales of the mirrored sector, the QCD axion is made heavy via the axial anomaly in the mirrored sector without spoiling the Peccei-Quinn mechanism to solve the strong $CP$-problem. Since the mirror copied sector possesses the same symmetry structure with the Standard Model sector, the model predicts multiple stable particles. As we will show, the mirrored charged pion and the mirrored electron can be viable candidates for dark matter. They serve as self-interacting dark matter with a long range force. We also show that the mirrored neutron can be lighter than the mirrored proton in a certain parameter region. There, the mirrored neutron can also be a viable dark matter candidate when its mass is around $100$ TeV. It is also shown that the mirrored neutrino can also be a viable candidate for dark matter.

Minimal Seesaw Model with a Discrete Heavy-Neutrino Exchange Symmetry

We present a Froggatt-Nielsen flavor model that yields a minimal realization of the type-I seesaw mechanism. This seesaw model is minimal for three reasons: (i) It features only two rather than three right-handed sterile neutrinos: N_1 and N_2, which form a pair of pseudo-Dirac neutrinos; (ii) the neutrino Yukawa matrix exhibits flavor alignment, i.e., modulo small perturbations, it contains only three independent parameters; and (iii) the N_1,2 coupling to the electron flavor is parametrically suppressed compared to the muon and tau flavors, i.e., the neutrino Yukawa matrix exhibits an approximate two-zero texture. Crucial ingredients of our model are (a) Froggatt-Nielsen flavor charges consistent with the charged-lepton masses as well as (b) an approximate, discrete exchange symmetry that manifests itself as N_1 <--> i N_2 in the heavy-neutrino Yukawa interactions and as N_1 <--> N_2 in the heavy-neutrino mass terms. This model predicts a normal light-neutrino mass hierarchy, a close-to-maximal CP-violating phase in the lepton mixing matrix, δ~3/2π, as well as resonant leptogenesis in accord with arguments from naturalness, vacuum stability, perturbativity and lepton flavor violation.

Simple Cosmological Solution to the Higgs Instability Problem in the Chaotic Inflation and Formation of Primordial Black Holes

We revisit the compatibility between the chaotic inflation, which provides a natural solution to the initial condition problem, and the metastable electroweak vacuum, which is suggested by the results of LHC and the current mass measurements of top quark and Higgs boson. It is known that the chaotic inflation poses a threat to the stability of the electroweak vacuum because it easily generates large Higgs fluctuations during inflation or preheating and triggers the catastrophic vacuum decay. In this paper, we propose a simple cosmological solution in which the vacuum is stabilized during chaotic inflation, preheating and after that. This simple solution naturally predicts the formation of primordial black holes. We find interesting parameter regions where the present dark matter density is provided by them. Also, the thermal leptogenesis can be accommodated in our scenario.

CP violating phase from minimal texture neutrino mass matrix: Test of the phase relevant to leptogenesis

The model of neutrino mass matrix with minimal texture is now tightly constrained by experiment so that it can yield a prediction for the phase of CP violation. This phase is predicted to lie in the range $δ_{CP}=0.77π- 1.24π$. If neutrino oscillation experiment would find the CP violation phase outside this range, this means that the minimal-texture neutrino mass matrix, the element of which is all real, fails and the neutrino mass matrix must be complex, i.e., the phase must be present that is responsible for leptogenesis.

PBH Dark Matter in Supergravity Inflation Models

We propose a novel scenario to produce abundant primordial black holes (PBHs) in new inflation which is a second phase of a double inflation in the supergravity frame work. In our model, some preinflation phase before the new inflation is assumed and it would be responsible for the primordial curvature perturbations on the cosmic microwave background scale, while the new inflation produces only the small scale perturbations. Our new inflation model has linear, quadratic, and cubic terms in its potential and PBH production corresponds with its flat inflection point. The linear term can be interpreted to come from a supersymmetry-breaking sector, and with this assumption, the vanishing cosmological constant condition after inflation and the flatness condition for the inflection point can be consistently satisfied.

A scenario of heavy but visible baryonic dark matter

We consider a model in which dark matter is a composite baryon of a dark sector governed by $SU(3)$ gauge theory, with vector-like quarks also charged under $U(1)_Y$. The model provides simple answer to the dark matter stability problem: it is a result of the accidental dark baryon number conservation. And with an analogy to QCD, all physical quantities of the dark matter can be calculated by rescaling the QCD experimental results. According to the thermal freeze-out mechanism the mass of the dark matter is predicted to be $\mathcal{O}(100)$~TeV in order to achieve a correct relic abundance. Such heavy dark matter is in general hard for detection due to small dark matter number density in the universe. However, dark baryon number in our model is not necessarily strictly preserved thanks to operators suppressed by the Planck scale, and such decay operator results in a decay lifetime marginal to the current detection bound. We show our model with $\mathcal{O}(10^{27})~s$ dark matter decay life time can explain the AMS-02 anti-proton data, if it is experimentally interpreted as an access, although some theoretical uncertainty may weaken its significance. We also investigate other phenomena of this model such as the extragalactic gamma ray and neutrino signatures.

Surviving scenario of stop decays for ATLAS $\ell+jets+E^{miss}_T$ search

Recently ATLAS reported a $3.3σ$ excess in the stop search with $\ell+jets+E_T^{miss}$ channel. We try to interpret the signal by a light stop pair production in the MSSM. We find: (1) simple models where stop decays into a higgsino or a bino are not favored. (2) an extension of them can explain the data at $2σ$ level without conflicting with the other search channels. A surviving possibility includes a light stop and a light higgsino, which is expected in a natural SUSY scenario.

Nambu-Goldstone Boson Hypothesis for Squarks and Sleptons in Pure Gravity Mediation

We point out that a hypothesis of squarks and sleptons being Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons is consistent with pure gravity mediation or minimal split supersymmetry (SUSY). As a concrete example, we consider a SUSY $E_7/SU(5) \times U(1)^3$ non-linear sigma model in the framework of pure gravity mediation. The model accommodates three families of the quark and lepton chiral multiplets as (pseudo) NG multiplets of the Kahler manifold, which may enable us to understand the origin and number of the families. We point out that squarks in the first and second generations are likely to be as light as a few TeV if the observed baryon asymmetry is explained by the thermal leptogenesis; therefore, these colored particles can be discovered at the LHC Run-2 or at the high luminosity LHC.

Lower limit on the gravitino mass in low-scale gauge mediation with $m_H\simeq 125$GeV

We revisit low-scale gauge mediation models in light of recent observations of CMB Lensing and Cosmic Shear which put a severe upper limit on the gravitino mass, $m_{3/2} \lesssim 4.7$eV. With such a stringent constraint, many models of low-scale gauge mediation are excluded when the squark masses are required to be rather large to explain the observed Higgs boson mass. In this note, we discuss a type of low-scale gauge mediation models which satisfy both the observed Higgs boson mass and the upper limit on the gravitino mass. We also show that the gravitino mass cannot be smaller than about 1eV even in such models, which may be tested in future observations of 21 cm line fluctuations.

Upper Bound on the Gluino Mass in Supersymmetric Models with Extra Matters

We discuss the upper bound on the gluino mass in supersymmetric models with vector-like extra matters. In order to realize the observed Higgs mass of 125 GeV, the gluino mass is bounded from above in supersymmetric models. With the existence of the vector-like extra matters at around TeV, we show that such an upper bound on the gluino mass is significantly reduced compared to the case of minimal supersymmetric standard model. This is due to the fact that radiatively generated stop masses as well the stop trilinear coupling are enhanced in the presence of the vector-like multiplets. In a wide range of parameter space of the model with extra matters, the gluino is required to be lighter than $\sim 3$ TeV, which is likely to be within the reach of forthcoming LHC experiment.

750 GeV diphoton resonance in a visible heavy QCD axion model

In this paper, we revisit a visible heavy QCD axion model in light of the recent reports on the $750$ GeV diphoton resonance by the ATLAS and CMS experiments. In this model, the axion is made heavy with the help of the mirror copied sector of the Standard Model while the successful Peccei-Quinn mechanism is kept intact. We identify the $750$ GeV resonance as the scalar boson associated with spontaneous breaking of the Peccei-Quinn symmetry which mainly decays into a pair of the axions. We find that the mixings between the axion and $η$ and $η'$ play important roles in its decays and the resultant branching ratio into two photons. The axion decay length can be suitable for explaining the diphoton excess by the di-axion production when its decay constant $f_a \simeq 1$ TeV. We also find that our model allows multiple sets of the extra fermions without causing the domain wall problem, which is advantageous to explain the diphoton signal.

SIMP from a strong U(1) gauge theory with a monopole condensation

We provide a variant model of strongly interacting massive particle (SIMP), where composite dark matter comes from a strongly interacting U(1) theory. We first explain a non-Abelian version of the model with an additional singlet field, which is mixed with the Higgs field to maintain the kinetic equilibrium between the hidden and Standard Model (SM) sectors. The mixing leads to signals that would be detected by future collider experiments, direct DM detection experiments, and beam-dump experiments. Then we investigate a U(1) theory with a scalar monopole, where U(1) charged particles are confined by monopole condensation. In this model, the radial component of monopole can mix with the Higgs field, so that we do not need to introduce the additional singlet field.

Implications of the 750 GeV Diphoton Excess in Gaugino Mediation

The 750 GeV diphoton excess reported by ATLAS and CMS indicates the presence of several pairs of the vector-like matter multiplets around TeV scale. If that is the case, radiative corrections from the $SU(3)$ gauge interaction significantly change from those of MSSM, and the infrared-free nature of the gauge interaction leads to characteristic SUSY mass spectra: a ratio of a squark mass to the gluino mass, and scalar trilinear couplings are enhanced at the low-energy scale. Consequently, even in gaugino mediation models, the Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV is explained with the fairly light gluino of 2-3 TeV, which can be accessible at the LHC.

TeV-scale Pseudo-Dirac Seesaw Mechanisms in an E$_6$ Inspired Model

TeV-scale seesaw mechanisms are interesting due to their potential testability at existing collider experiments. Herein we propose an E$_6$-inspired model allowing a TeV-scale pseudo-Dirac singlet neutrino seesaw mechanism with naturally sizeable Yukawa couplings of $\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$. The model also contains new U(1) gauge interactions (and associated $Z^\prime$ bosons with which the singlet neutrinos can be produced at colliders), typically long-lived colour triplet fermions, SU(2) doublet fermions, and a complex scalar - potentially all at the TeV-scale. Additionally we identify three possible explanations for the 750 GeV di-photon excess.

Diphoton Excess as a Hidden Monopole

We provide a theory with a monopole of a strongly-interacting hidden U(1) gauge symmetry that can explain the 750-GeV diphoton excess reported by ATLAS and CMS. The excess results from the resonance of monopole, which is produced via gluon fusion and decays into two photons. In the low energy, there are only mesons and a monopole in our model because any baryons cannot be gauge invariant in terms of strongly interacting Abelian symmetry. This is advantageous of our model because there is no unwanted relics around the BBN epoch.

Occam's Razor in Lepton Mass Matrices - The Sign of Universe's Baryon Asymmetry -

We discuss the neutrino mass matrix based on the Occam's Razor approach in the framework of the seesaw mechanism. We impose four zeros in the Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which give the minimum number of parameters needed for the observed neutrino masses and lepton mixing angles, while the charged lepton mass matrix and the right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix are taken to be real diagonal ones. The low-energy neutrino mass matrix has only seven physical parameters. We show successful predictions for the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and the CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$ with the normal mass hierarchy of neutrinos by using the experimental data on the neutrino mass squared differences, the mixing angles $θ_{12}$ and $θ_{23}$. The most favored region of $\sinθ_{13}$ is around $0.13\sim 0.15$, which is completely consistent with the observed value. The CP violating phase $δ_{CP}$ is favored to be close to $\pm π/2$. We also discuss the Majorana phases as well as the effective neutrino mass for the neutrinoless double-beta decay $m_{ee}$, which is around $7\sim 8$ meV. It is extremely remarkable that we can perform a "complete experiment" to determine the low-energy neutrino mass matrix, since we have only seven physical parameters in the neutrino mass matrix. In particular, two CP violating phases in the neutrino mass matrix are directly given by two CP violating phases at high energy. Thus, assuming the leptogenesis we can determine the sign of the cosmic baryon in the universe from the low-energy experiments for the neutrino mass matrix.
