The homology of iterated loop spaces

The singular chain complex of the iterated loop space is expressed in terms of the cobar construction. After that we consider the spectral sequence of the cobar construction and calculate its first term over Z/p-coefficients and over a field of characteristic zero. Finally we apply these results to calculate the homology of the iterated loop spaces of the stunted real and complex projective spaces. In the Appendix, written by F.Sergeraert there are considered computer methods for calculations of the homology of iterated loop spaces.

Subleading Sudakov Logarithms in Electroweak Processes

Recent results for the asymptotic behavior of fermion scattering amplitudes in the Sudakov limit are presented including next-to-leading logarithmic corrections. These are used for the analysis of the dominant electroweak corrections to the fermion-antifermion pair production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at high energy.

Top-Antitop Pair Production close to Threshold: Synopsis of recent NNLO Results

Using non-relativistic effective theories, new next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the total $t\bar t$ production cross section at the Linear Collider have been calculated recently. In this article the NNLO calculations of several groups are compared and the remaining uncertainties are discussed. The theoretical prospects for an accurate determination of top quark mass parameters are discussed in detail. An outlook on possible future improvements is given.

Summing up Subleading Sudakov Logarithms

We apply the strategy of regions within dimensional regularization to find functions involved in evolution equations which govern the asymptotic dynamics of the Abelian form factor and four-fermion amplitude in the SU(N) gauge theory in the Sudakov limit up to the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation. The results are used for the analysis of the dominant electroweak corrections to the fermion-antifermion pair production in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation at high energy.

Equivalence of Recurrence Relations for Feynman Integrals with the Same Total Number of External and Loop Momenta

We show that the problem of solving recurrence relations for L-loop (R+1)-point Feynman integrals within the method of integration by parts is equivalent to the corresponding problem for (L+R)-loop vacuum or (L+R-1)-loop propagator-type integrals. Using this property we solve recurrence relations for two-loop massless vertex diagrams, with arbitrary numerators and integer powers of propagators in the case when two legs are on the light cone, by reducing the problem to the well-known solution of the corresponding recurrence relations for massless three-loop propagator diagrams with specific boundary conditions.

Analytical Results for Dimensionally Regularized Massless On-shell Double Boxes with Arbitrary Indices and Numerators

We present an algorithm for the analytical evaluation of dimensionally regularized massless on-shell double box Feynman diagrams with arbitrary polynomials in numerators and general integer powers of propagators. Recurrence relations following from integration by parts are solved explicitly and any given double box diagram is expressed as a linear combination of two master double boxes and a family of simpler diagrams. The first master double box corresponds to all powers of the propagators equal to one and no numerators, and the second master double box differs from the first one by the second power of the middle propagator. By use of differential relations, the second master double box is expressed through the first one up to a similar linear combination of simpler double boxes so that the analytical evaluation of the first master double box provides explicit analytical results, in terms of polylogarithms $\Li{a}{-t/s}$, up to $a=4$, and generalized polylogarithms $S_{a,b}(-t/s)$, with $a=1,2$ and $b=2$, dependent on the Mandelstam variables $s$ and $t$, for an arbitrary diagram under consideration.

Problems of the Strategy of Regions

Problems that arise in the application of general prescriptions of the so-called strategy of regions for asymptotic expansions of Feynman integrals in various limits of momenta and masses are discussed with the help of characteristic examples of two-loop diagrams. The strategy is also reformulated in the language of alpha parameters.

Threshold expansion of the sunset diagram

By use of the threshold expansion we develop an algorithm for analytical evaluation, within dimensional regularization, of arbitrary terms in the expansion of the (two-loop) sunset diagram with general masses m_1, m_2 and m_3 near its threshold, i.e. in any given order in the difference between the external momentum squared and its threshold value, (m_1+m_2+m_3)^2. In particular, this algorithm includes an explicit recurrence procedure to analytically calculate sunset diagrams with arbitrary integer powers of propagators at the threshold.

Analytical Result for Dimensionally Regularized Massless On-shell Double Box

The dimensionally regularized massless on-shell double box Feynman diagram with powers of propagators equal to one is analytically evaluated for general values of the Mandelstam variables s and t. An explicit result is expressed either in terms of polylogarithms Li_a(-t/s), up to a=4, and generalized polylogarithms S_{a,b}(-t/s), with a=1,2 and b=2, or in terms of these functions depending on the inverse ratio, s/t.

Top quark production near threshold and the top quark mass

We consider top-anti-top production near threshold in $e^+ e^-$ collisions, resumming Coulomb-enhanced corrections at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO). We also sum potentially large logarithms of the small top quark velocity at the next-to-leading logarithmic level using the renormalization group. The NNLO correction to the cross section is large, and it leads to a significant modification of the peak position and normalization. We demonstrate that an accurate top quark mass determination is feasible if one abandons the conventional pole mass scheme and if one uses a subtracted potential and the corresponding mass definition. Significant uncertainties in the normalization of the $t\bar{t}$ cross section, however, remain.

The strategy of regions for asymptotic expansion of two-loop vertex Feynman diagrams

General prescriptions for evaluation of coefficients at arbitrary powers and logarithms in the asymptotic expansion of Feynman diagrams in the Sudakov limit are discussed and illustrated by two-loop examples. Peculiarities connected with evaluation of individual terms of the expansion, in particular, the introduction of auxiliary analytic regularization, are characterized.

Two-loop Correction to the Leptonic Decay of Quarkonium

Applying asymptotic expansions at threshold, we compute the two-loop QCD correction to the short-distance coefficient that governs the leptonic decay $ψ\to l^+ l^-$ of a S-wave quarkonium state and discuss its impact on the relation between the quarkonium non-relativistic wave function at the origin and the quarkonium decay constant in full QCD.

Asymptotic expansion of Feynman integrals near threshold

We present general prescriptions for the asymptotic expansion of massive multi-loop Feynman integrals near threshold. As in the case of previously known prescriptions for various limits of momenta and masses, the terms of the threshold expansion are associated with subgraphs of a given graph and are explicitly written through Taylor expansions of the corresponding integrands in certain sets of parameters. They are manifestly homogeneous in the threshold expansion parameter, so that the calculation of the given Feynman integral near the threshold reduces to the calculation of integrals of a much simpler type. The general method is illustrated by two-loop two-point and three-point diagrams. We discuss the use of the threshold expansion for problems of physical interest, such as the next-to-next-to-leading order heavy quark production cross sections close to threshold and matching calculations and power counting in non-relativistic effective theories.

Calculation of Infrared-Divergent Feynman Diagrams with Zero Mass Threshold

Two-loop vertex Feynman diagrams with infrared and collinear divergences are investigated by two independent methods. On the one hand, a method of calculating Feynman diagrams from their small momentum expansion extended to diagrams with zero mass thresholds is applied. On the other hand, a numerical method based on a two-fold integral representation is used. The application of the latter method is possible by using lightcone coordinates in the parallel space. The numerical data obtained with the two methods are in impressive agreement.

Asymptotic expansions of two-loop Feynman diagrams in the Sudakov limit

Recently presented explicit formulae for asymptotic expansions of Feynman diagrams in the Sudakov limit are applied to typical two-loop diagrams. For a diagram with one non-zero mass these formulae provide an algorithm for analytical calculation of all powers and logarithms, i.e. coefficients in the corresponding expansion $(Q^2)^{-2} \sum_{n,j=0} c_{nj} t^{-n} \ln^j t$, with $t=Q^2/m^2$ and $j \leq 4$. Results for the coefficients at several first powers are presented. For a diagram with two non-zero masses, results for all the logarithms and the leading power, i.e. the coefficients $c_{nj}$ for n=0 and j=4,3,2,1,0 are obtained. A typical feature of these explicit formulae (written through a sum over a specific family of subgraphs of a given graph, similar to asymptotic expansions for off-shell limits of momenta and masses) is an interplay between ultraviolet, collinear and infrared divergences which represent themselves as poles in the parameter $\eps=(4-d)/2$ of dimensional regularization. In particular, in the case of the second diagram, which is free from the divergences, individual terms of the asymptotic expansion involve all the three kinds of divergences resulting in poles, up to $1/\eps^4$, which are successfully canceled in the sum.
